Lack of Area Code notation removes contact detection on WinMo 6.5

Hello
Earlier today I upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5.
Since none of my number are in 61+ notation [Country Code], there is not contact recognition, and I have to manually assign each person who's called me to there corresponding number.
How do I automate this process, i.e.; do I change something in the registry, or is their a tool to prepend 61+ to each stored number?
Please tell me how I can get contact detection to work accurately.

I had to go individually through all my contacts and assign the "+1" (for USA) to them. Yeah, it's aggrevating. But I didn't know of the above!

Too bad I couldn't of been of help earlier, manually changing them all must've sucked...!

[Q] [Sense 2.0 Roms] First digit/character ignored in HTC Dialer

ROMs affected for sure: iNsertCoin v2.0.0 and RCMixHD v3.5 (both A2SD)
Whenever I type in characters in HTC Dialer to search for a name (e.g. 846 for contacts named 'Tim') the first number gets ignored, resulting in search results starting with characters represented by the numbers '46', e.g. 'Ho...'.
Similarly, when I try to access the test screen via *#*#4636#*#*, the first character '*' gets ignored (it even disappears after putting in the first '#').
If I put in something, then remove it with backspace and start over, it does work.
Don't think it's relevant, but Baseband version is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.
What is happening here? Tried setting different locale in settings, different keyboards, no change. Thanks in advance.

Ok second post now. Maybe your phone is a little nakered, rom broke a little. It seems your just getting software errors which happen when you flash custom roms.

Posted this here in Q&A after iNsertCoin developer suggested me to do so. He heard of this problem before, but had no solution. Hopefully other ppl have found one, but an extensive search both here and on other forums did not give any result.

Solved
After (quite!) some more research, I've found a similar problem described in the topics below. The presented fix there also solved my problem (see quote):
With great help of some participants of xda forum a workaround for this issue has been found: just remove the dialer shortcut from the dock (set it to "blank") and then add it back in (a shortcut to "Phone" app). This will fix the problem.
Apparently, people who are not experiencing the issue are the people who already recreated their dialer shortcut while customizing the dock. Meanwhile, people who keep the initial dock (or, more precisely, the initial dialer shortcut) all experience this problem. The problem is not limited to Plus version - a plain LaucherPro has it as well.
It looks like LauncherPro, as shipped, uses some unorthodox way to launch the dialer (I wonder why), which is what's causing the latter to act up. Recreating it as an ordinary app shortcut fixes the problem.

Searching for phrases on XDA

Hello
Every time I try to search more than a single word it looks for any of the individual words - even when I am putting the words in quotes "" or as word1+word2+word3.
What am I missing here? Is there no way to search for phrases on here?

I found this :
Basic Search Syntax
Search multiple words use Boolean operators such as:
- AND (ex. ajax AND instant)
- OR (ex. ajax OR instant)
- NOT (ex. ajax NOT instant) or use the minus sign (-) (ex. ajax -instant)
Search for an exact phrase using quotes:
- (ex. "instant email")
Search for wild cards using asterisks (*)
- (ex. *mail)

Yes, but as I said neither of these seems to work on XDA .

Unfortunately, vBulletin's search function lacks recognition of Boolean operators. It makes searching for exact phrases difficult.
Try to use the keywords from your phrase. For example, instead of 'root for captivate', try 'samung captivate root guide' or something similar. The more specific you make it, the higher the chance of your top hits coming back with all your keywords.
It's a known issue, and there's been a lot of discussion on what can be done to get around it. Unfortunately with it being a 'feature' of vBulletin, it may take some time for this to occur

Hate to resurrect this thread from the dead but, this is especially frustrating for searching within threads... Trying to search by phrase or just two words gives an impossible result
For example I'm try to search for "change color" unfortunately I get just the individual words results, and 125 pages of results lol :crying: Seems like I run into this wall on a weekly basis, frustrating. Usually I can just do a google search ie. site:forum.xda-developers.com "my phrase" but this doesn't let me search within specific threads.
There is still no work around for this right?

Unfortunately that doesn't work anymore, just gives results of the individual words.

that's so incredible that this simple thing cannot be solved on the biggest forum for smartphone, pfffff
in applications forums all the message are in a database and that is VERY easy to make a query for exact phrase with php.
I think xda dont want, for unknow reason ...

lol. xda DB is huge. Querying the database directly is not a good idea since it can heavily impact the performance.
Thus the need of an external service for indexing and searching, such as Apache Solr..

[Q] Help with special characters

I saw too many threads, but I dont found any solution.
When I send special characters like, "á,à,é,i,ã,ó,ç", the other phone doesnt see it, or in some cases show garbage. I cant understand it. If someone could help me, I appreciate it.

I had a similar issue both with special characters and other alphabets (Cyrillic one)... In my case it wasn't a problem with my phone but with both service provider (that was strangely resolved very fast) and the recipients phone (which didn't support those characters).
So, have you tried sending this type of messages to other phones and was the result the same?

I would try to send such a message to some other (models of) phones just to be sure whether this character limitation is imposed by your mobile service provider (which is less probable) or is plain inability of that particular phone you are messaging to encode such special characters...

Impossible to be limitation of my mobile. I have 100% certainty that be ROM's problem. I change it on sunday.
ROM - Runnymede AIO V3.0.5
Last ROM - leedroid. I hadn't any problem until sunday.
I tested swype keyboard, HTC_IME mod, LatinIME. No solution.

Very well then, that clears it up... It could be ROM bound problem... Hopefully you'll solve it by reflashing to another ROM since it appears that your current ROM is faulty in terms of character encoding, it has nothing to do with keyboards...
Although i had run some of the previous versions of the Runnymede AIO and had no problems with texting characters such as č, ć, ž, š etc. Sorry that I can't help you...

While didn't have any solution, I disable special characters (Messages-Settings-SMS-SMS characters-off)

Clicking a number to call in IE

Hey all,
Apologies if this has been asked before, I've scoured the search function but couldn't find it.
A feature I really miss from iOS and Android (I've had both) is where you look up a restaurant or something on your browser and it recognises the telephone number and underlines it.. so you just tap to call.
Right now I have to copy the number (or memorise it), go to the phone function and then create a new contact, paste the number and then call.
Is there an App or something that gives that functionality in WP (I have a HTC Titan with latest updates)?

I've just downloaded and set it up, and its useful (same as Chrome to phone on Android) but not what I meant. Essentially if I'm browsing the web on my phone, I want telephone numbers (on the web page) to automatically open up the phone program. All this is on the phone, not my PC.

Like (us of a numbers) 601-555-1234 just as you would dial them. The os pickes up a set of 7,10 or 11 numbers as phone numbers and dumps them to the dialer. Its the way it should have always been (nice)

I have Samsung Focus and running 7720 and I just tap the phone number on the web page and it take me to a screen asking if I want to call or store number.

same here. Never had a single issue with this.

Same here... always works - is it do to the international settings? (Settings, swipe, phone, international assist)? i have mine on
Also in IE try changing from mobile to desktop version to see if it makes a difference.

is the quoted phone number showing up as a link for anyone? Its not clickAble for me on 8107 with mobile or desktop setting. Also tried international assist setting and it had no effect as suspected.

One feature I miss from previous OSes is the lack of ability to paste a phone number in the dialer. It is not always the case that we are able to successfully dial a number by tapping on it.

Does not work for me, neither do national (Swiss) or other European numbers. I usually have the opposite problem with iOS etc.. i.e. any sequence of numbers (including serial numbers) being interpreted as a telephone number

All but the last one were clickable for me (version 7720). I attached a screenshot of what I get with the first 6 numbers. Gives option to call, and edit number beforehand if necessary.

Same results for me too. HTC Titan ATT 7720.

Interesting that it is working for you guys. I tried changing my region settings all to USA and now it is working was previously set to Canada.

Weird... report that one to MS... i would think it would urk a lot of people. I live in the US.

Not clickable to me. im using the dft v3 rom on my 7 Pro. How i have managed to pick up numbers from the browser is to copy the number, create a new contact and then call to the number. Leaving the name field empty makes that contact appear frist for easy calling and deletion after the call.
So bottom line here would be to get the paste option to the dialer. That is a WAY better solution to call numbers from the browser, than have the browser identify all numbers as phone numbers.

That phone number shows up as orange text that is clickable. I have my phone set to mobile view priority.

All but the last one work for me also. Plus the web page has to be 100% loaded before they are clickable.

I Did some more testing. The only value that seems to matter is your region format setting (second from the top) inside the region+location settings. Make sure it is set to united states. Everything else can be whatever.
Anyone have the ear of someone on the windows phone tem and could pass this bug on? There's no obvious reason why the Canadian region should not have the same clickable phone links as we generally use the same formats as our friends to the south. I would chalk this up as an oversight, Canada usually gets forgotten.
Also tested Australian, and it is not working for the above numbers, but then the Aussies use a different number format iirc.

There are other dialers you can download that you can past phone numbers into. Give one of those a try.
