So since most of the themes if not all, have wrong placement of images (specially the notification pull down window) I am wondering if indeed most of the users are NOT using applications like LCD Density.
To me, LCD Density is the first thing I install pretty much. It makes my phone just completely different so I wouldn't imagine myself without it.
Please comment.
I liked it too, but it's not compatible with a lot of games and some other apps... That's the reason I don't use it.

With a bit of tinkering you can make 240dpi look a lot like 200, and avoid headaches in the process.
Thing is, when changing the density the SGS doesnt look so good as for example hero with a changed density. On hero I go with 120DPI. Tried on SGS 200 and it looked bad and somethign wasnt even readable. (I have even now trouble with fonts on 240 sometimes they are thick sometimes thin in the same app)
Its strange but hero on 120DPI is better readable then SGS on 200 why is that so?

Really? That is very odd. I run 182 and the image is just insanely sharp and detailed. I wonder if user Eyes are also coming into play here... interesting to see the Poll that some many people have never heard about it!

Not sure what tinkering is that but I still run 182 (the minimum I can run without Contacts crashing) and everything looks so razor sharp and so much info fits on the screen that I cannot think about using my phone without it.

What games are those? So far only Pac Man has given me the issue and I have tons of games. You can always use the Temp change to go back to stock when needed.

As I mentioned, I use this all the time 24/7 and read all my email and use different browsers as well and love it. Might have to do with each users vision as well I suppose.
Well that might be so but we could rule that out? Since I told you I have a HTC hero on even lover DPI and its still better readable as the SGS . Maybe my SGS is bugged...
Dont get me wrong here, SGS is far more superior and literally not comparable to the Hero. Am just saying, maybe with mine is something wrong

I went to all the trouble of rooting my phone and installing the free version , but after changing the numbers it didn't work so I decided that it wasn't worth the bother

That sucks. Was that an old version or a recent one. I dont recall the first one I tried but they have all worked. On eclair I could do 160 but on Froyo anything under 182 crashes the contacts.
Thing is i have tried it many times at 200 but the stock apps that Samsung provides don't change to 200, so it's all too small when you open e.g the Phone app, the dialer is in the left hand corner and there is dead space on the right around it, same goes for other apps except contacts and calendar, but the top bar is messed up in those apps.
I'd use it but also GTG's touchwiz launcher doesn't work properly with it, only thing stopping me from using it is the problem with apps, if there is any way to make them scale to 200 i'd use it in a heartbeat
I use a different dialer as that is the only one that does not show correctly for me. It would be nice if everything worked though.
I know what it does, I do not use it at all
It causes too much screen / resolution problem with Apps that are not compatible
too much hassle to maintain
it's easier to not use it

It just baffles me to read comments like this, my phone has about 305 apps/games (according to Titanium back up) so it is odd for me to read people saying this. Either I am very lucky that my apps are all fine or something else is wrong.

I have issue with plenty of apps not sizing properly. It's just the nature of the beast when you change the density.
But to answer your OP, I don't use that program. I just change it manually in the build prop. That way it stays 140 or so when I do a full reboot.

I never tried changing it there, I guess the app is just a GUI for the same thing.
Can you name some of those apps if you have time cause I am really curious to check those.
So far games, only Pac Man and apps, the Dialer for which I am using a different one.
I think it's a waste to have a 4" screen and have it display as much as a 3" one would. I used it at 185 for a long time and never had many issues with non-Samsung apps.
Sometimes things scaled a bit weirdly, but they were perfectly functional and it was quite rare. Some of the Samsung applications (TouchWiz app drawer, calc, phone, memo, etc) just got smaller but I replaced those anyway. Other than that I never had issues.
Right now I'm using it at around 210 since the fonts got a little too small and for example the LP Twitter widget hard to read from a distance. Trying to find a balance.
Hello everyone! I just got my One X on Monday and so far I'm pretty happy with it, despite some small hiccups due to the first version of the SW.
Today I have installed an alternative camera app from the Market (Lg Camera Pro) and I turned off in the options the sound of the shutter. Guess what? The HTC stock keyboard stopped playing its sounds eversince, and no matter what I do there is no way to have them back. I have also uninstalled the Lg Camera app, but to no avail.
My idea is that the app has somehow overwritten some system file and as a result the keyboard is now mute. But is it possible, considering the handset is not even rooted yet?
Any ideas are very welcome.. if I don't find any other solution I will have to go for a full reset.
I have a heap of iPhone mates that I wish could find this LG app you mention. They all sit there in the room, going tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-tick on their phones while txting...sounds like a bloody stenographer's convention!
Sorry, I have no answer to your problem, but I am glad people around you are enjoying the silence

How about your screen lock / unlock? Is the sound still on? If doesn't then try to install some sound manager apps (ex: Audio manager) and check the volume level for system.
Awesome tip OP! A way to remove annoying keyboard sounds, will apply it if I get this phone and trial it on other devices.

You can always disable the keyboard sound via the keyboard setting menu. Most of the HTC device come with keyboard sound turned off.
I normally use the keyboard on mute, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I should be able to turn the sound on if I wish to do so!
Anyway I had to do a factory reset from recovery to have it back. Thanks to all.

It's an entirely different way of typing. Swype is faster because you don't have to remove your finger from the keyboard (at least not that often).
Swiftkey is faster because it predicts words insanely well, if you write "I'll be there in 5 min" for example it will suggest "be there in 5 min" after you write I'll.
It's a very intresting piece of software which learns what you type the most and how you type it.
Also the new beta even adds spaces between words if you have forgotten it (check video in the thread in VIP section of swiftkey for example).
I tried Swype, Swiftkey, SlideIT, stock keyboard, Sense 4.0 keyboard and I still love Swiftkey the most. At the start it isn't that great but when you use it a few days it becomes 10x better (because of the "learning" of the software).

Hmm, interesting. THanks for your detailed response, i will definitely give it a try!
I tried it a few times, but I'm too old-school clearly!!
I discovered today that the note 2's dpi is set to 320, this is shocking given how big the screen is.
This dpi is similar to phones like the galaxy nexus, galaxy s3 and one x, so technically we are getting as much usability as phones with screens smaller then .7inch smaller then owers.
I changed the DPI to 240 and I instantly found a huge difference, no loss in overall sharpness, more icons fit in the screen, apps showed more detail, and the phone felt like a phablet rather then a phone for the first time.
Anyways for now I'm using nova launcher(for a costimizable homescreen/drawer) and alternates to all the samsung apps because they are not compatible with a lower DPI. Has anyone played around with their DPI? which DPI was the best for the phone?
For those who didn't try it yet, I highly recommend you to try it out if you know what you're doing.

240 is too small in my opinion. Most of the apps work without any problem on 280, and for me it's the highest visible density for me. Btw on 240 there problems with fluency.

I cleared the play store's data a cache, it turned into tablet mode which was pretty sweet. I could've kept it as is from stock dpi and I would've been able to get the normal phone mode apps.

Samsung apps seem a bit laggy at 240 dpi, but I solved that by using alternatives to most of them, nova launcher looked pretty sweet. And as for the visibility, the screen is HUGE, like even at that tiny dpi icons are as big as they are on an S3 which is at 320 dpi, I'm gonna try 280 seems like a better choice for frequent usage.
I find it kind of stupid that they kept the dpi at 320, a lot of wasted screen space
Shame S Note crashes even at 280 dpi... especially as there is not an alternative that links in so well with the S Pen with pop up windows.
edit: Unbelievable, I set it back to 320 dpi, S Note is still crashing. Even after I wiped it's data.
edit 2: Wow, re flashed my ROM, even did the wipe option, S Note STILL crashes.
edit: DW, was EE's CSC causing it lol.
I need to set more than 320DPI but TW based rom always got crash

How are people finding SwiftKey on the G3? I am seeing two persistent issues
1) G3 will periodically revert to Google Keyboard necessitating the re-selection of SwiftKey. This was happening a couple of times again till I froze the Google Keyboard.
2) There is a consistent lag when Swiftkey is getting loaded. You click on a text field and half a second later the keyboard comes up. I don't see this with the LG or Google keyboards.
Swiftkey is so much better than the alternatives I hope they fix this soon. Must have something to do with the screen res.
Haven't noticed any lag myself tbh.
Not had the switching keyboard thing either although I have in the past

Don't think so. While others approach Swiftkey in terms of functionality and prediction algorithms in English, Swiftkey is nearly as amazing in other languages, including those of small countries with population less than Manhattan. How they do it I don't know, but it is a fact.

@lguK announced it (the official UK LG account) not sure if other LG accounts also announced it.
Are you running on ART? Have you tried restarting your phone or reinstalling swiftkey?
I use swiftkey and one of the best things about is is that I can change the long press time to about 200ms. It's way too long on stock keyboards and this makes getting to some symbols and limited number usage faster than having to switch from letters all the time.

I am on ART and I don't have either of the problems. I have Swiftkey lag on my wife's Moto G.
Swiftkey on Dalvik - lag
Swiftkey on ART - no lag
I'm back to Dalvik because I wanted Xposed
One thing I did that helped a bit is go to settings - Languages and the first option Language - I unchecked Spelling correction which seems to have helped quite a bit in the lag department.
I got lags since they launched the Swiftkey 5 version, even on ART/Dalvik in my Moto G.
It's toooo slow and there are lots of annoying lags.
I've been using Swiftkey since 2013, and I never had any problems like that.
They already said is working to solve this issues.
SwiftKey was lagging on my Moto G as well. In both Dalvik and ART. Too heavy it was I think, but I was using it anyway.

I never noticed this before on the HTC One X. Maybe because the phone as a whole was less responsive because this is par for the course. You are right, I have grown so used to SwiftKey that I just put up with these things and keep using it.
I keep accidentally hitting up or down instead of space and it's driving my writing insane. That sucks.
Im also inadvertently collapsing predictions possibly, or the phone is. Haven't figured that out yet.

Latest update broke it. The previous version works. You need 5.3.2.67-x86.
I'm still experiencing the same issue. I've used Google Keyboard for awhile, but I wish I could return to Swiftkey.
I found out that the bug comes from divergence between the physical density and the override density. My physical is at 480, and I changed it with adb to 380. But the terminal indicates that the physical is still 480 and the override is now 380.
Following this (reddit dot com/r/nexus6/comments/2nvax8/psa_for_those_who_have_changed_the_dpi_and_are/cmhd5pa), I tried to change it by modifying the build.prop. No luck, the tweek is not in that file on the Zenfone 2, but in the default.prop, which unfortunately seems un-editable.
Has someone a solution or am I condemned to use another keyboard ?
PS : sorry for the link, I'm a long time lurker but first time poster, so restricted !
Apparently Swiftkey does not play nice on anything other than the default resolution of the device. I went back to default and switched to a different launcher, no more troubles,.

So it's actually a launcher problem ?
No, it is a screen resolution/density problem. Swiftkey doesn't work on anything besides the default resolution/density except for a couple of releases. If you go back the default setting it will work fine.
I now use Nova Launcher on my phone instead of the default launcher. I live the default one but can't stand only have four icons per row on this large of a screen. Nove does what I want without a bunch of fuss. I use the 3KMNML White icon pack and the default red wallpaper, looks nice.

Thank you ! This actually works, I'm glad to use it until an official fix.
Is this the last working version for modified DPI on the ZP2 ?
A Solution to Swiftkey Issue
I was determined to use a smaller dpi setting on my ZF2 whist still being able to enjoy Swiftkey (I hated to stock Asus keyboard).
I was trying stock dpi settings and using xposed app settings module to adjust dpi of individual apps/settings, but V1.10 wasn't working on the ZF2. Then I found a reference to V1.13 for marshmallow. I tried it and it works!
So now I leave phone at stock dpi settings and use app settings V1.13 to modify dpi of System UI, Gmail, XDA, playstore and various other apps whilst still enjoying Swiftkey and some other apps/widgets that weren't resizing properly before.

But of course you need to be rooted to use Xposed.

I just did this, but the SwiftKey keyboard seems higher. I wonder if there's a way to further reduce the height. The smallest is still too high for me.

Yes SwiftKey was taking up about half the screen initially, but there is a setting in SwiftKey to resize the keyboard. If you swipe right from the top left corner of the keyboard a menu comes up which allows you the change layout, resize, undock etc. This worked for me.
