For whatever reason, I do not have the option for 1080p YouTube playback on my HTC One M8 Google Play Edition.
This is quite strange, because my OnePlus One came in the mail yesterday and it had it out of the box.
Is there something I need to do to enable it?
Why would a Google Play phone, of all things, not get that support from Google themselves?
On the bright side, the OnePlus also had "OK Google" Everywhere available without any tinkering (although the mic kinda sucks, and I have to hold it right to my mouth for it to work XD).
Could it be that I'm rooted? The M8 is on 4.4.4, so I really don't see what could be wrong.

Maybe it's just network related..?
Are you trying on mobile data? Check in general settings on the youtube app, there is a box to limit data on mobile data, only stream HD content when on Wifi.
I JUST tested my device(On mobile data) and it streams 1080p videos perfectly, no problem at all.
I don't think rooted has anything to do with it, I'm S-OFF, rooted as well no problems. I'm on international stock sense though so I won't know about the GPE edition.
I'm on a very strong WiFi signal (same network for both phones). The GPE model number is different from the otherz, and that's why Hulu won't do HD...
I think your right cause i recently converted my device to gpe and i dont have the option of 1080p anymore from what i have seen

I'm in disbelief that Google can't even get their act together for a Google Play phone...
Why the heck does the regular M8 have it but not the Google Play Edition??
I'm tempted to just change my model number and see if it fixes it.

Thanks for the reply guys....hope HTC adds this function in a future update!
It doesn't support it? Really? The native Talk app worked just fine for me to video call over 3G.
Well thats nuts. No video calling over 3G for those whom have network support.
Does anyone know where the restriction is put in place, its obviously not a ICS issue since my SGS2 worked fine. And we have a Front camera lol, thoughts?

Android does not natively support it. But Samsung Androids do have it, so it is possible. Was hoping that HTC would follow, unfortunantly there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for it.
There are already several issues with google to enable it like this one.

Cos that's the Google Talk app, which by default just happens to come installed.. It's not something built into the OS, and you can only call people who have the app installed as well. Native video calling would mean toe ability to video call anyone whose phone supports it, regardless of OS.
I believe UK was one of the first to have video calling back in 2004/2005 (in your face steve jobs, facetime over wifi in 2010 on a phone is not revolutionary!)
anyway, yes there is a difference between video calling on the network and video chatting using an app over the data connection.
I think the main reason for dropping video calling is the lack use by the consumers, here in the video calling minutes have been dropped from monthly tariffs now, i'm guessing due to the lack of supported devices and also the lack of use, most consumers seem to be more interested in the data services side which is much more useful.
Thanks mate for the update.

I use to be able to make video calls on an old NEC phone ibhad back in early 2000. My GS4 support's it, I'm a bit pi**ed off that my HTC ONE doesn't as I'd like to be able to talk to my kids when im at work or wherever.
I'm wondering if Netflix is broken for any of you.
By broken, I mean that when you open Netflix, it stays on the Spinning wheel for loading. And apart from that, since it doesn't go to login, you get an error, ALSO after all that, it kills your connection to WiFi/Data. I have to uninstall the app just to get Data back, or reboot.
I notice a lot of comments from the same device with the same problems. Any one have any ideas?
Which ROM?
Sent from my One V using xda app-developers app
Seems to happen in all for me. Custom Sense, Stock, CM9, and 10.
It seems to be the latest update judging on the comments in the market.
I recently installed the PACman ROM from the one v CDMA development section here in the forum, its a paranoid/aokp/cm10 hybrid, look it up its freakin great. Any way Netflix works great in that one

netflix (from past experience on the evo) typically only works on stock roms. i cant say if it works on the hov custom roms (cm, aokp, pacman, etc) but i had also heard that the new update messed up netflix. maybe they will fix it in the future. i only use netflix on my wii so i cant tell you how it runs for me. (as i havnt ran it on my hov yet lol)

Anybody having issues with Chase Quick Deposit on GPE Roms, it seems that the pictures turn Green after been snapped.
Having same issue, anyone found a fix?
Bank of America is also giving me problems. Keeps telling me that the image isn't clear enough when it's actually pretty clear.

On S-off, rooted, ATT HTC One M8 and having same green screen on gpe roms or on conversion. App works fine on sense based roms. :crying:
Did anyone find a solution?
Thanks

Reviving a few month old thread here, but I'm having similar issues with Bank of America -- when I snap the photo of the check, it never turns into a static image. Like, even after pushing the camera button and the app asks me to confirm, I still see the moving camera window rather than the static photo that I just supposedly took. Even if i sit perfectly still and confirm the images it never goes through.
Anyone found a fix for this? GPE ROM, using Google Camera.
I have tried multiple ROMs (GPE, CM11) on my Tmobile HTC-M8 and am facing the same issue with the Chase mobile app. The check picture turns green. With Sense ROM there are no issues. I'm wondering if this is happening to folks who converted from Sense to GPE or is it evening happening to people who have a GPE edition phone.
Converted from Sense to GPE
I purchased the unlocked HTC One M8 direct from HTC and converted it to the GPE.
I'm getting the green image when I try to make a deposit with the Chase app too.
The next thing I think I'll try is switching it back to S-ON. I'm a little concerned changing it to S-ON with the GPE RUU will cause more serious issues...
I was getting the green image with CyanogenMod and S-ON too, so I'm not confident making it S-ON will fix it.
Any success stories appreciated.
I have the same issue with Chase and Citibank the picture is fuzzy and does not work. My Moto G works fine for both though. Does anyone have a fix or suggestions?
Back to S-ON

This is a software problem. Could definitely be firmware / software related.
For the record I had this issue with Bank of America's check deposit, but they pushed out a fix and the changelog specifically said it was a fix for the M8.
Same issue (blank green photos on HTC One M8 with Chase app)
Not to be confused with a totally different issue, inability to resolve a picture well enough for BofA to use.
Anybody find relief here? I enabled developen mode and tuned background process limits, but I didn't see much to tune, and found no resolution.
How the Netflix app running, smooth?
Netflix runs great on mine. Depending on your connection. If I use my phone for connection and in Sprint spark territory I receive HD content. Same for home network.
Yes Netflix is gorgeous on the 10.5. Give it about 30 seconds or so for the HD movie to buffer and it looks incredible.
The Netflix and youtube apps have been optimized by Samsung for this device. They look spectacular. It's third party video apps that suffer with extreme Pixelation and ghosting in dark scenes. Such as Crackle, Cable Provider Apps and other streaming services.
Mine doesn't even let me activate it, I mean, I'm just entering the app for the first time, when I enter my Email and password is telling me that the device can't be activated, I called Netflix and the only thing they told me was to uninstall it and reinstall it and when I told them that this one came pre-installed that I can't uninstall it just turn it off, he didn't even know what to tell me.
They are telling me to contact Samsung, so go figure...

Please call Netflix and/or Samsung so they know that this isn't an isolated problem and worth together to fix it.
I called Samsung and basically told me to reset to factory, I asked them if they guarantee me that doing that will fix my issue and they couldn't, so I told them that I wasn't in the mood of just wasting hours that took me to set this today just to see if that fixes it and if at least they have a reliable backup solution where I could simply reset and restore I'd do it, but not with the joke they call Kies, and that I have had all their Galaxies s, both Gears and now the Tab S, so I do like them but must admit that their backup solution is a joke and is a shame that they seem to not care about do something at least like LG has.
I called back Netflix and this time they were asking and escalating the call and in waiting for a call back.
Just for curiosity and trying to cover all the bases, are you on the Continental US? I live in Puerto Rico and I'm just wondering if this could be some Region issue.
Just to let you know that after trying all day at the office where I'm the System Manager so I have full online access as usual with all my previous and actual android devices, and after talking to Samsung and Netflix guys I just cane home and guess what, I could activate Netflix without a hiccup, so what can be different with this Netflix app on this Tablet that is the first device that I couldn't activate the Netflix app but everything else was working perfectly, even more, I used the OEM browser and Chrome and went to Netflix and login from there and saw everything perfectly, so the proviene was always the Netflix App.
Let me wait for Netflix call as they haven't call yet and see what they think after I explain this to them.
The Netflix app has worked flawlessly for me from day 1.
Netflix worked for me right from the get go and it was one of the first things I tried when I got my 8.4".
The picture looks great, I'm not even sure what the highest resolution one can stream using Netflix.
I was able to get it working as well. I went into the application manager and uninstalled the update. Then, let it reupdate from the Google Play store and it worked fine.

They never called me yesterday, but after trying at home and worked I'm sure they just re-adjusted something on their end, that's the only explanation why suddenly it worked after not working for a full day, I'm assuming that they just changed something and let me try it again by myself instead of call me, that can explain why yours is working now also. I did what you are mentioning here about 5 times and nothing worked before, so if now is working then maybe something was changed after my couple of calls.

Netflix streams 4k video now, breaking bad, and ghostbusters I know for sure are 4k. I don't know if it will convert or look better though on the Samsung tab S? Let me know if you notice any difference?
I picked up the 8.4 S yesterday and I think it's clear that this is the best device for Netflix I have ever used. I checked out both the 8.4 and the 10.5 at the dealer and felt that the 8.4 was superior due to the pixel density giving it a sharper look.
To some extent I didn't feel the 10.5 was any better than the Note 10.1 2014 and I have always felt that video was a bit blurry on the larger screens. The display density on the 8.4 is just perfect and Netflix and Youtube are impressive.
I got the 10.5. 32Gb. Love it. No problem seeing up Netflix. When I started the the stock Netflix app it requested an update. After that it run smoothly.

I noticed some of you said that Netflix was already installed. For some reason mine wasn't.
I wonder why?
As I thought there was an exclusive Netflix app for the tab s. If I download Netflix from play store is it the same app?
Also for those that have the Netflix app pre installed is it not deletable then?
Mine came with Netflix pre installed. I can't delete it, only uninstall the updates.

Hi all
I have a HTC One M8 with Android 4.4.4. Since the latest Moto 360 update I am unable to use any voice actions on the watch. I am also unable to use Google search at all on the phone. It loads up until the main screen then I get "Unfortunately, Google search has stopped working".
When attempting voice commands on the watch it spends ages with the multicoloured loading circle animation, then says "Unable to contact google".
I have just completed a FULL wipe of both my phone and the Moto360 and it hasnt resolved a thing!
Im completely lost now. Im suprised to hear that nobody else has had a similar problem.
Any ideas?

Im having the same problem, on my Galaxy S4. Tried all the stuff you did, still not working right.
Same here on my note 3 running lollipop leak version
Tho my watch is a G Watch R
I just checked here to make sure it's not my watch that's at fault
Which as you guys are getting the same I guess it's android wear that's at fault
I have noticed that if I restart my phone and don't use voice command that Google doesn't crash.
Im glad I'm not the only one, I thought I was going crazy
Scratch that, still does.
