is there any difference?

Mine needs 2 h +/- with a 1A Samsung charger and a LG G2 cable.
(I try to not use it that much while it charges)

Chargers range from 1A-2A output. The cable will also affect the charge speed. I tried replacing the cable on my Samsung charger with a cheapo $1 one, and it wouldn't charge for crap. Swapped it out for a higher quality one, and it worked great.

I might keep my note 3 charger for this. Usually charge quickly.

The G3 comes with a 1.5a charger and takes about an hour and a hlaf from 18% to 100%. Would using a 2a charger cause any damage to the battery or would ut be safe to use?

Should be fine. I've used my 2A Samsung charger on several phones with no problem.

My AT&T G3 came with a 1.8A charger. It's a lot bigger than I expected. Charges my phone in about 2.5 hours.

Tmo variant ships with a 1.8A as well. Not sure what you've got that came with a 1.5A. Charges in about an hour and a half with my longer cable I've got at home and 2A samsung charger I have at home. I don't use the LG one it came with because it's too tall. It's about double the depth of the charger that I currently use and I've got it crammed behind a file cabinet. Also the cable coming off the end of the charger instead of the side is a poor design considering that the charger is already so deep to start with. The charger it came with definitely wouldn't fit back there.

I just checked again and its a 1.8 :silly:

i read on a review that the charge times may vary from 2 hours to 3 hours

Hi everybody! With the originale charger and cable my G3 has a very, very long charge time. About 4 hours or even more... One morning I found it at 92% after all night (from 00.30 am to 7.00 am).
What do you think it depends on? May I have some hw issues? Now I use another charger (not LG's, about 2a) and it takes about 3 hours...
I'm going crazy about it! Thanks...

2A vs. 1A charger

In the meantime I got inspired by some threads in which people claimed that 2A (amp) charger will make it faster to charge up my note then original 1A charger. I bought original Samsung 2A charger for Samsung galaxy tab and tried that out and I must say that during the first week or two the charging time decreased from around 2.5 - 3 hours into something around 1h 40-50 min.
Later on everything returned to standard 3 hours though, charging with 2A charger is almost identical to 1A charger so from my experience there is no added value with this approach (unless ICS will make a change, or some custom rom).
For anyone interested I enclosed picture where in the top row you may see charging with 1A charger after 1h50min, 2h40min (both just random pics), then when this app (https://market.android.com/details?id=net.whph.android.battery) said it is 100% and the last picture is when galaxy note (Android) system said it is 100% (green battery icon). In the bottom row there is the same scenario with 2A charger. I am on the stock rom 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKKA.
Im not sure but I think you need a kernel that allows more than 1A charging for the 2A charger to work.

I guess so, what makes me slightly uncertain is that initially, charging time was around 2 hours ...
This is an interesting thread. I'd like to get more information about 2A chargers and whether they really make a difference.
Also I heard that when plugged to a TV (using the MHL cable) the phone may actually consume the battery more, even when plugged to the charger simultaneously. therefore if 2A chargers charge faster, it may also solve this problem.

I actually have both, micro USB to USB and micro USB to MHL cables. Wasn't able to test them for a longer time as they sometimes work and sometimes don't, especially mhl cable shows videos for like 30 seconds and then there is a lost signal message on my TV, then it wakes up, then it is gone again ... I could fiddle wit it, but will rather wait for ICS upgrade and then will return to it again.

I am using the iPhone charger. It is a 2A and so far I see an improvement in the battery life. With the original charger (and BB one) the battery reading was 2100mAh . Now is 2600mAh. I don't know why or how.
Also I see a sightly improvement in how the battery lasts for normal use. I get around 18hours

I did it, and while not with 2 notes side by side, you can have a look at the pictures at the 1st post, the time and charging rate shows its pretty same on the stock rom whether you use 1A or 2A charger. (Although it was very different first one or two weeks, after that battery get used to 2A charger and charging is as slow as with 1A ...)

SGN stock batt with ipad charger?
Hi, I see some of you are using 2A/ipad charger to charge you SGN. My question is, will there be any side effects on that could harm the stock batt in short or long run?
FYI, atm, I have an ipad charger for home and car and i intend to just use the same charger to charge all devices including my SGN. Im not looking for a fast charging option, but just a hassle free and conveniences.
I appreciate if you could give suggestion on a dual port charger (for home and car) where I can charge my devices simultaneously at one time.
No harm as long as the volatage output from your charger is 5v. This is what pushes the current to ur device. Higher it goes more it pushes.
However the current that the charger provides decides how fast it can charge. This will also depend on the device. If the device is manufactured to charge at 1 amp and u use a 2 amp charger then it will only use 1amp. If however u use a 750mah charger it can only use 750mah and charge slowly.

[Q] Charging Rate

I am using a BlackBerry PlayBook 9V charger and I'm only getting (no more than) 30%-35% per hour while charging.
The Samsung Galaxy Note charged at about 45%-50%per hour.
Is anyone else noticing slow charging rates for the HOX?
Yap, takes over 3 hrs to charge from 5% to 100% with stock charger. With USB from computer about twice as long.

for USB it depends they can run from 300 - 500 mA where as the charger is 1 A.
on my computer i get about 20% per hour on USB.
Mine is slow too. Compared to my old "one-button" phone (that shall remain nameless") the HOX is slow to charge.
Anyone try a different charger with better success?
33% per hour here. 3h for a full charge is not that bad.

Are your HOX rooted with custom ROM? Wondering if it's because of the recovery? It's taking really long to charge. I'm using the stock charger.
Depends on the output of the charger and the cable. Believe it or not, the cable plays an important part in how much charge it can carry.

Yes cable matters. I did a experiment too. Installed battery monitor widget which shows input voltage.
when charging through htc cable given with one x it charges at rate of 700+ mah
but when using local cable it charges only at 250+ mah.

how long does it take to charge the nexus 7 FHD?

mine seems to charge to slow, or maybe cuz im not using the stock cable and im using my usb ports on computer
but if i have stock charger on wall outlet, how long is the charge top up take from 10% to 100%, thanks
yea mine is charging slow through the computer but I dont know if its because of the nexus 4 usb cable im using.

Obviously charging through a 500mAh USB 2.0 port would be slower then through a 1.35A wall charger.

Yes you can use a 2amp charger I was using my S4's and it charged fast

Interesting, I've only charged mine twice since getting it last sunday, and I've not paid any attention as to how long it's actually taking, one was through a proper charger, and finally today plugged into my computer
The New N7 ships with a 1.3 amp charger, and it's definitely slower to charge than the old N7 (which shipped with a 2.1 amp supply).
But I have yet to determine if putting a higher current supply on the new N7 will result in more current being delivered than the stock charger.

It takes about 3 hours to charge from 0% to 100% with the charger it came with. Using a 2 amp charger doesn't decrease the time, as the device will charge at a maximum of about 1100-1200 mAh.

Can anyone tell me what the power draw should be using the stock charger and cable?
Battery monitor is telling me that it is +237ma, it is taking 12 hours to charge. I have sent back to Asus via PC world (what possessed me to buy from there I dont know) and they have told me there is nothing wrong with the device. I have flashed the stock image and still getting notoriously slow charge times.

With the stock charger and cable, the battery should be charging with close to 1200mA; the charger draws 7.4W from the outlet (at 230V).
There is current limiting based on the voltage the tablet sees, a USB cable with thin wires can drastically limit the charge current.

Galaxy S4 takes 5-6 hours to charge. What's wrong with my phone?

I purchased a lightly used Galaxy S4 this week, and my phone seems to be working pretty well and my phone typically lasts me about 1 day with about 2-3 hours of screen time. The seller included the stock wall charger and battery with the phone, but for some reason, my phone charges really slow at night when I'm sleeping. It would take about 5 to 6 hours to reach full charge and this has been happening ever since i got the phone. I have read numerous reviews that state the average charging time is 2 hours, so I am assuming there is definitely something wrong with my used phone. What could be causing this problem?

Check the specs of the home charger. Since it's a used phone it's possible that the charger is not
the stock 2.0A which comes with new galaxy s4's but instead a 1.0A which is a common charger
for galaxy s2 and s3 phones.
Read the fine print on the wall charger to find out.

I took some pictures of the charger along with some battery stats for reference, but I believe it should be the stock charger according to what you just said. Someone suggested that I Download BatteryMonitor and CurrentWidget app, and the apps indicate that I am charging 300ma and 6.8%battery/hr. Are these numbers normal? I did notice was that on the micro usb, there are only 4 bronze pins when I look into it. I compared this to my older android cable and that one has 5 pins. Is this normal?

There are two kinds of cables, one of the cables will only charge, the stock cable which comes with
the phone will charge and transfer data between the computer and the phone.
But for charging purposes, both cables will charge the same speed when connected to the wall charger.
So you can charge with either cable with the same charging speed.
The main thing is the actual AC Wall Charger, to me it looks like the reason it takes you
5-6 hrs to charge is because the charger you use is 1.0A instead of 2.0A...
It should take 2-3 hours for full charge.
Good luck!

Make sure you don't have "Fast Charge" toggled in whatever ROM you're using. It noticeably increases power when connected to a computer or whatever DC source, but even when connected to AC power, Fast Charge will considerably lower the power output of the stock charger.
I'm running stock and didn't apply any roms. I hope it's just the charger, but is there anyway to test if it maybe a faulty usb port on the device without spending 20 dollars for a new charger to find out?

I can't say, but I will add that I've used numerous chargers and the absolute lowest I've seen was right around 420mA. That's obviously nothing more than my observation from using 8-10 different chargers, but still...
Try a different cable first. The stock cable should be the best but maybe u have a bad one. Its cheaper to replace than a charger.
Also try charging from a computer to see if ur phone takes more than 300ma. Try different chargers too. Most are 1000ma.
You should be able to narrow down the faulty component. If its not the charger or the cable, then it might be the battery or lastly the phone itself.
Walk into any cell phone store if u need to test with spare cables or chargers or even batteries. There should be some cool guys there

How many amps will the G4 draw when charging at 5V?

I know this phone is Quick Charge 2 capable, but does that apply only to high voltage charging, or also to standard 5V?
I ask because I bought a 3.1A charger, and though the phone was almost dead, it didn't charge any faster than the 1.8A charger that came with the phone. Is the charger defective, or will this phone just not draw 3.1A at 5V?
QC2.0 is 9V at 1.2-1.3A.
Normal 5V is at around 1.7-1.9A only.
It will not draw anything more than what's above. FWIW, IMO, QC2.0 doesn't make a huge difference

Thanks. So QC is only a protocol for changing voltages, it has nothing to do with negotiating or handling a higher current draw?

QC is a protocol for allowing a maximum possible current draw at a predefined voltage. Just because you have a higher possible current supply from a charger it doesn't mean that the G4 will draw more.
E.g. G4 can only draw 1.8A a 5V. If you use a 1A charger, it can only draw 1A but if you use a 2A charger it will only be able to draw 1.8A and not the full 2A.

It does sound defective, unfortunately. Mine charges at up to 1%/minute, and that's without a QC 2.0 charger.
I use LG stock charger and a third party 2.1A charger to charge, Ampere shows that it has around 1000 mah. Apart from the charger, the charging cable quality do affect the result too. Try to swap cable and test again.
IMOļ¹stock charger with 5V 1.8A can charge quite fast with 2+ hours to fully charged from 0 to 100%, no need to go for QC2.0.

I have found that my Original Samsung 2.1A charger sucks for the G4. Somehow it knows its a Samsung and doesnt want to provide anything over 1A. That charger charges at 2A my Galaxy S4. It takes like 3-4 hours to full charge from under 15%.
My LG G4 charges fkn fast with the original one and a Tronsmart QC charger. 1% every minute.
