As you might know, the bootloader of both the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live can be unlocked.

This is necessary (at least for now) to root the watch an there is even already a first custom rom for the G Watch out there.
However, this requires a direct USB connection to the Android Wear device.
The Moto 360's specs are still unknown, but the device won't have any kind of wired connection.
Is it (theoretically) possible to set up a ADB connection to a Android Wear device over Bluetooth while in bootloader?

thanks adicool, but from what I'v read so far that should only get you ADB access while in Android
You can reboot into Fastboot from there, but once in Fastboot the watches seem to lose the Bluetooth connection and you have to use the USB connection through the charging cradle - which is not possible in case of the Moto due to wireless charging

Ooh ya, didn't think of that one ! I hope we somehow get access to bluetooth in the boot loader. Hopefully we will know more tomorrow after the official announcement of the Moto 360

This is scary. I may have to wait before buying it to make sure we will be able to mod it. What if it only does OTA updates through the phone? We may never get a custom recovery/rom [emoji33]

i figured it had to do with the new updates allowing you to use your watch away from your phone

Just took off my watch band, no pins. Also bootloader tells you to connect a USB cord, so no bluetooth.

Be careful. EVEN iFixit broke the plastic cap on the back of the watch. There is quite a lot of double-sided tape. You break that and watertight/dusttight operation goes out the window.

I would hope he can peel off a sticker without cracking the back casing. Looks like it just needs some small pogo pins and it will work great. Peeling the sticker off does likely remove the water and dust protection though.

I've been wondering the same thing. I have been tempted to try it myself but I would be stabbing blindly at it. Someone has to more knowledge to guide them than i do.

Been having power button issues:
Power button does not work at all, not even when booted to recovery. I believe it is shorted/stuck on because the device CANNOT be powered off. As soon as the battery touches the device, BOOT.
So.. i pulled the case and took a look inside:
All the soldering looks fine but i assume its an internal mechanical issue. If anyone could help me identify this button on mouser etc, i would greatly appreciate it.
I am familiar with small package SMD soldering; however any tips as far as temperature and solder time for something this sensitive would be awesome.
Or a schematic? Any idea if one is leaked?

The only thing close to a schematic I've ever seen for that are the FCC approval photos.
Hmm, ok i will take a look at those. I am really just hoping to find an equivalent part to swap out. May end up just taking measurements and scan through mouser for a few hours.

unfortunately, that is the plastic button extender part. I am looking for the actual electronic button soldered to the motherboard.

Having similar problems with mine. Still works normal but have to push down pretty hard to bring up power menu as well as waking the device. Wasn't untilled I opened it up that I realized it was the actual button on the board that is bad.

DMM'd all 5 pins with all 5 pins both while pressing the button and not.
Connectivity on all.

Ha yea; i was surprised mouser didn't even have anything close.
It definitely just has 4 pins, i believe the 5th is just for mounting/was just soldered to the case. After going through thousands of these 'tactile switches', none of them had 5 pins.
AND: if you look at the techresourse teardown, their mobo revision doenst even have the 5th pin...or the ground wire from the silver box to the switch casing.
Glad to see progress is being made. I hope the repair works. Please if all goes well and works can you make a detailed step by step including all tools needed for the job? That would be awesome.

Ah ok. That's what I was thinking too that it was probably just a mount, but wasn't sure if it was a ground pin afterall or not.

I now present to you the Origami Wireless Charging mod for the Galaxy S3
The technique is very simple and you only need a Palm Pre wireless receiver and copper tape.
The instructions are similar to for the NOte 2, just look at the above link. The only difference is the alignment of the contacts.
I should not have to elaborate on this as the pictures will show you what I mean.
I am currently using a Spigen SGP Ultra bumper case with this mod without problem.
This mod charges the GS3 around 16% to 17% per hour it is quicker than that on the NOte 2
NFC function is NOT affected as far as I can tell.

Well, that certainly looks a lot neater than the mess I've got back there.
Were you able to test the Freq of the Magnetic field while charging to see how much of the field is effected by the exposed Copper trailing off from the Coiled Copper in the protective sleeve, make sure the induction wasn't attracted to exposed copper and run that path, maybe bypassing the circuit board in the black sleeve with the Coil....How the Induction is created is the Receive and Transmitting Copper coils have to be of equal size etc....
I tried this tto, and it was a mess. Drained the battery overnight. Musta done something wrong and am going to have to try again someday...
I haven't done this myself, but it seems like you probably have contacts touching each other where it isn't supposed to. make sure none of the copper tapes are touching
HI all, I have tested NFC and I can confirm it blocks NFC, this may be due to the NFC antenna is in the battery and the wireless receiver sits on top of the battery.
Not entirely a loss to me because I can still send files via direct WiFi.

Im going to attempt doing this whenever I get a chance. It doesn't look difficult at all and truthfully I could care less about doing NFC when I can easily take the back cover off and still transfer files via NFC regardless.

I am not sure what method you used but I have done this on two devices and both have kept nfc functionality.

This actually depends on where you put the coil. I think the nfc antenna is around top half of phone. Easiest way to test is by using nfc tags or a pay pass credit card to help placement of coil height/location.

I placed mine smack in the the middle on the phone so it would be centered in landscape and portrait and have had no NFC issues.
Any reason why this wouldn't work with an AOSP ROM. I tried this and got nothing but it could very well need to be redone.
there is no reason this mod will not work on aosp.
check what you did. you probably missed a step or wired it incorrectly.
Figured it out, needed to roll some electrical tape to keep the copper on the contacts.

If it is indeed charging then I wouldn't complain at all. I wish I didn't get the pop up saying it's connected to a wireless charging device.

you should be able to go into your system/media/ folder and replace the connect sound with a blank sound if you want to remove the charging sound.
the pop up is part of samsung's os.. but it just goes away after a few seconds, so i dont have any issues with it. I usually drop mine off onto the charger and go to sleep.

IMO, this is definitely cool but more novelty than useful. I haven't rooted my GNote 10.1 yet but I have noticed that I cannot move my apps to the SD card. Since both this and my One will be on Jelly Bean, I suspect to encounter the same roadblock. Maybe I'm a minimalist and don't really recognize it, but I don't like the idea of having to add that to my keyring.

I see its usefulness in loading up an SD card with a couple movies or tv shows - watching them and then replacing them with others. Keeps the content off the device and can load up to 64gb of content without touching the phones storage. pretty neat!
I like it because I have over half of my 64gb card filled with music and even though I do have it uploaded to Google music I use neutron to play it and right now there's no way to stream it to neutron

Same here just backed them up since I bought my HTC One 2 days ago. With 32GB the phone should have enough for everything and then when I want to watch some videos I can just plug in my Microsdcard 32GB from my old Captivate Glide and have access to all my Videos. I must say I really like the idea.
I really don't like it. It looks atrocious and leaves itself open to be broken very easily. Why can't they just make a smaller connection and have a cable that wrap around to the back of the device which then connects to what we already have available in flash drives?

It could be anything like a card reader or even what is found on the inside of a flash drive. (Which is already really small) The housing containing this could have an adhesive side so it can stick to the device. There are adhesives that basically don't lose their stickiness so you can remove it when you're done and reattach it when you want to.

You do realize you can buy the device then simply use a cable extension to place it on the rear. If the cable does not exist you can simply make an extension yourself or simply use adapters to get the required connections needed.

Even if that were physically possible, the phone will power the OTG card reader for as long as it's plugged in. Not only would your phone never go into deep sleep, it would keep the 5V boost converter turned on indefinitely. The battery life on that setup would suck.
The product being Kickstarted seems to be meant for swapping files into/out of onboard flash or being actively used (watching movies, torrenting from public wifi, etc)

I don't know where I went wrong, but you're confused about my idea. It is essentially the SAME THING as the kickstarter device... Only difference is the way it looks. Instead of plugging in a device which then hangs directly out of the port you have something that sticks out only a faction of the other device which then sticks on the backside of the device... It is out of your way and less likely to get damaged.

I'm aware, but I'm confused why it was even mentioned. Nothing I said insinuated that that device was going to be there semi-permanently. The only thing the market offers now is either a dongle or a device like this kickstarter one. The KS device is moving in the right direction, but having a device protrude out of a fragile connection bothers me. My idea helps to fix this issue.

Then you should go make one and create a project on Kickstarter!
Personally, I like the accessibility of this device. It works much like a current USB flash drive. Plug in to xfer files and then remove.

Bump, the moto 360 is now shipping/shipping soon, one of the preloaded roms is KKW22
I also need the version string of the bootloader.
You can find the bootloader version in fastboot,.
Also, you do not need to be rooted to dump system, all you need is to enable adb.
I'll do a system dump. You do need root to dump recovery.
Rebooting into fastboot gets this.

Tried, nada. There is speculation that there is a USB port hidden on the main board. (5 holes on the bottom of this,
) and there 5 contacts on the main board in the same spot. (Note: Board is flipped in this image.
)

I'm about 3 hours into a dump right now. ADB over bluetooth is ridiculously slow. Unless you just want to do it as well I'll upload when I'm done to save you the time.

Though I want a copy of the entire rom, I mostly need the build.prop

Was it before or after the ota?
I can't imagine the only direct access to it would be only via BT,
having to take it apart to service/program it seems like a hassle.

I'm looking forward to seeing a teardown on it. I'm guessing there's some way Moto can service it like popping either the back or the screen off and just plug in an adapter that has pogo pins or something. Doesn't necessarily look like an ideal device for modders right now though.

Yeah it's running on KGW42N (4.4W.1), not the stock image when it shipped.
I'm thinking it may be just below the watchband location, going to remove the bands in a sec to see.
What's the model number on the back of it/box/whatever?
If there's anyone that hasn't updated yet, could they grab the full ota url by using wireshark/fiddler/<preferred packet sniffer> and redirecting the 360 to it before letting it connect to the internet for the first time?

Careful, someone said they busted the back plastic trying to take it off. It has to be possible since they are releasing the metal band later, but go slow so you don't break it.

Hmm that doesnt seem to match existing model numbers.
Other moto devices with goog roms/gpe devices were:

Good call, I had a magnifying glass next to me so I took a look. I just see FCC ID numbers and a serial number. That kind of stuff.
Edit: Specifically: anatel id, fcc id, ic number, and serial number.

Well, you aren't supposed to take the back plastic off lol. The bands are just like normal watchbands, you use a tool to pull back the spring bar.
Also just got em off, nada. Just markings. Just like what AJ said.

Oh, hah. They looked a little deep to me. I was under the same impression as others that you would take the back off to get to them easier. Good to know.

good luck also you may have to push downon the device while it is on the cable or also try stripping the red and black wires
Anyone else having issues getting this to recognize on their PC? I have one made, but when I connect, it shows up as "unknown device". I've tried the Universal Drivers, Samsung Drivers, and Motorola Drivers. Nothing seems to work right to connect to fastboot. Could it be possible that I have one of my D+ or D- cable criss-crossed?

I had the same issue, I think our connectors just aren't making good enough contact.
The moment usb connects it sends commands back and forth so if the contacts bounce when you make contact windows thinks the wire is broken and says error...

I'm not even getting an error though. It just tells me that the "Unknown Device" installed properly.
Made this cable from another type of Ethernet jack which does not require the drilling... But I don't want to peel my sticker unless there is a compelling reason to unlock the BL.

Well, i picked up a multi meter from Walmart and quickly discovered that my jig had continuity so after a little investigating it seemed that the USB ports on the computer weren't responding, tho that was easily fixed with a restart.
Great news!..... Except for the fact that i can't for the life of me get a good enough connection to the watch to even get the drivers installed, let alone run some commands in fastboot.
Hampered by a migraine headache i gave up for the night and I'll give it another go in the morning.

I used one that I purchased from Lowes a while ago so I already had it laying around. It is On-Q LegrandRJ45 Data/Phone Jack, here is a link:

After you separate the the two halves of the jack (This was the hardest part) you can slide the front plastic part off and it leaves you with your punchdown back piece and the brass leads sticking straight out so you can just bend them as needed and hook up your wires.
I should have taken pics but I ended up sealing everything up with a nice wrapping after I made sure it was working.
PROTIP: after you assemble the cable use your tester again to make sure each lead in the usb plug is reaching the exposed connectors (I also had trouble with my white and black wires and had to strip them before connecting them)

As I had feared, these were the drivers I had been using. What else could I do?
*BUMP* Any solution to the unknown device found.
In the video, was mentioned that someone may be making the usb connector and have them for sale..if so, may I have a link to purchase.?
I did make my on, but in bootloader mode, once I connected the usb connector, that I made, the device was identified with "fastboot devices" command, and the device did display that the usb tranfer mode was active, but when commands sent as instructed, to reboot bootloader or any command like the unlock command, the adb screen would display something like, not a good command..
long story short, I kept tinkering, thinking I had the usb cable pins connected in wrong slot, so I switch connection to other pins in the device, which was mentioned in the video to be careful and not connect to wrong ones..so I tried this..nothing ever would display, as connected, so I switched back to the original pin layout connection, now in bootloader mode, nothing happens when I connect, the device never displays that I have connected usb like before..
Have I shorted the pins out, and damaged the device to where it will not accept usb connection again.? The device in watch mode functions normally, also when I connect the usb cable I made, the charging (battery) icon displays, like the cable is charging the device, but in adb window, the device has never responded, even originally, before I messed around with the pin layout..now only the charge icon comes up in watch mode, nothing in bootloader mode..
Should I sale this device and purchase another, because this one can NEVER be unlocked now..??
