[Q] LG D851 (Unbranded/Unlocked)? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone in their travels come across an unlocked D851 for sale? I want to buy this phone as it comes with Band IV LTE for TMob in the USA. I cant seem to find it, not like too many models are available this week regardless. However with the pre order TMob page up, I was wondering if the unlocked/unbranded version had made it to order pages.
will the D855 work on tmob. i saw a screen that listed all the LTE bands through a service menu, does that mean I could order it and turn the radio on?
Thanks

You'd have to buy an unlock code most likely. And I don't think there is going to be an unbranded one sold.

So just buy it from TMO, unlock it, buy a backplate then flash the **** out of it and keep it moving?

Yeah, bedsides the flashing part as of now the boot loader is locked.

Damn, I couldnt get the stock international rom, Im really trying to avoid any carrier involvement? Do you know anything about the LTE being able to be switched on.. The D855 is being sold 'sim free' (as they say in the EU) seems like the only option as of now.. if its possible of course.

You can use a custom ROM in the development section. Just no custom kernel and such

D855 won't work for att LTE

Itd be Band IV (1700MHz) for TMOBILE
I dont know if you can turn frequencies on for instance from a service menu such as this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53156924&postcount=49

I dont think it has that. It has 2100 but not 1700 AFAIK. And if the phone doesn't have the frequencies you can't just turn them on. Its a hardware thing.

Yea, Ive been out of the game for a few years. So I was/am unsure about whether or not the SoC has all the HW radios necessary but the software dictates the frequencies to Rx/Tx from/to.. leaving the supply chain simpler for the manufacturer.
Thanks for all your help Lost, i appreciate it! Probably just order the TMO D851 to ensure HW compatibility and then deal with the software as necessary.. The kernel being locked makes me wonder if non-carrier models be easier to crack.

Yeah a lot of people are saying the SoC supports many bands but the fact is that they have to have approval from the FCC to have those bands be unable at all on the phones.

[Q] Flash to t-mobile is it possible?

Hi guys,
this may not be the proper forum for this if it is not i apologize.
I have have the cricket galaxy S3 which I payed retail for a few months ago, I am moving to a area where they do not cover, I would like to bring my s3 over to tmobile but im running into a strange issue.
The phone is set to cdma mode in the the engineering menus i can switch it over to gsm and it has the frequencies that tmobile uses but i can not get it to see anyone else's sim card other then crickets, its not an unlock problem, it just says please insert sim with anyone else's, they do something weird they are cdma but have a sim card and the phone will not work without it. I tried installing a rom with the tmobile baseband as an experiment thinking well it may be that, but it didn't work.
I am having a hard time believing there is not a way to get this done so I am turning to the most informed android community I know of for advice, Dose anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this?
Please not I am not scared to brick this phone because if I cant get it switched over its a $500.00 paperweight to me anyway it has a cracked glass so I wouldn't be able to sell it anyway.
What model is it? I think cricket is closely related to sprint or verizon. And as far as I know no ones been able to use those models on the tmob or att networks with any success. Just because the option is in the engineering menus does not mean the phone is capable. It was just easier than creating separate apps for every model s3.
Now that T-Mobile has lte in some areas this may have changed a little, but in the past I know cdma phones were not compatible with T-Mobiles gsm network. So there may be a way IF lte is in your market, but I still wouldnt get my hopes up much.

it is identical to the verizon one, model is like 530 I think and the verizon is 535 (dont have in in front of me), but ive seen on youtube someone get the verizon s3 to work on gsm but hitting a couple settings, hence my frustration.

See I looked at that but I couldnt get it to work with my phone, the part that is hanging me up is it refuses to see the gsm sim card, though outwardly they look identical to the lte card that is in my phone im thinking it has to do with the encoding on them.
i have been trying to Odin flash the stock vzw firmware to it, since the hardware is identical, but i cant get past the qualcomm secure boot check

I wouldn't try that again. Way too risky. Odin won't flash an official firmware to a different model device. But if you get it to it would be more likely to brick your phone than not. I know they're practically identical, but any difference in bootloaders could cause it.

And I know you said you're not worried about bricking it, but even with cracked glass you can still sell it, probably for a good bit more than you think.

well here is the thing, about the unlocked bit I am not sure, but it dose not prompt me for an unlock code, it simply just dose not see any other sim thats put in it, it just says No Sim. I gave up on flashing it with odin, I remembered the rom I was running had options for all major us carriers in it and cricket so i played around with that re-flashing the rom to it try a few things and well that didn't work either.
Well if you don't get it unlocked its probably not going to work with any other carriers network.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023709
That thread may help. It's for gsm phones so I don't know if it'll do you any good, but it's worth a shot!
The Rom itself will have little to do with getting it working on another network. The main items that you probably need to worry about are unlocking and that SIM card.
The sim is tmob right? Does it work fine in other T-Mobile phones?
If you really do think.it's the Rom you may be able to flash a stock based Rom from the T999. Get verification first though as it's probably not like att where we can just flash theirs and it just works! You'd most likely need it ported.

LG Optimus F3Q

I'd like to get one of these somehow to Europe and unlock it. Anybody happen to know where to get one shipped & how to unlock?

I am also interested in this phone, but it seemed no one really cared about it. A seller called welectronics posted an open box video in youtube, you are able to buy from them at a premium, but I would wait for cheaper ones to float around on ebay. The 4G bands of this phone do not work in Europe but 3G do, and there are websites that sell the unlock code for the network lock.
il like this phone too and waitin an offer (Ihave T-Mobile MyTou Q Huawei u8730)
it's really too bad no one seems to care about this phone.
I wanted to get one but also want to see if anyone here can come up with rooting and flashing instruction for this phone first.
I really want to get a Kitkat rom on this phone.
(FYI, I am still using the T-Mobile G2 I love so much.)
I found a site which sells this unlocked and ships to Europe: http://www.canadagsm.ca/products-LG-Optimus-F3Q-Penta-Band-LTE. 2G and 3G will work; 4G not.
But as there is no alternative ROM available and apparently no way to root, it's impossible to remap the keyboard. Which is a must, at least up here in the Nordics.
Brilliant looking phone. I'm sure the qwerty sliders will make a comeback someday, stupid people just haven't figured out yet that Apple screwed them when they introduced the on-screen keyboard.
But how to get root? Hopefully somebody with skills would also buy this and do Cyanogenmod for it.
Could this be real: http://442kitkat.senuke.info/mp3-0/lg-optimus-f3q-5998.html
If there is a rooting guide and KitKat rom for this phone, I am going to buy one right the way.

And the download links to the rom are broken.

Also no way I'm downloading from an obscure site a ROM to my phone, without a community which can validate that it does not include anything nasty.
I am wondering if Motochopper or RootMaster can root this phone or not.
I expect that after some sales somebody will create a forum for this phone. It's on T-Mobile where people are used to qwerty's and in their portfolio it replaces the Samsung Galaxy Relay, which has an active forum here.
I am also very interested in this phone.
Problem seems to be getting it out of the grasps of the usual "America is #1 and we don't want to know about any of the rest of you" phone companies...
...Does anyone know if the LG Enact shares the same case design as the F3Q? They both look very similar.
Not sure about Europe, but some South East Asian countries welcome qwerty keyboard phone. What is LG thinking? Can't sell a phone without carrier backing?
The LG Enact has identical spec as the F3Q, BUT it is a CDMA phone for Verizon so it is almost impossible to use outside the US, unless you are using a CDMA carrier and is able to unlock and register the phone.

In this regard then it's not just LG, Motorola too.
Making the awasome Droid4 exclusively for Verizon in US and no GSM version for T-Mobile or AT&T.
I guess Motorola deserve what is happening to them now, guts taken out by Google and being sold to Lenovo as an empty shell.

I know it is CDMA but I was wondering if it was physically identical. I was wondering if you might be able to use accessories like cases made for the Enact on the F3Q, and maybe even change the ugly blue keyboard of the F3Q to the grey one of the Enact.

I really don't understand the design process over at LG.
If I buy the F3Q, the first thing I would do is that out that back shell cover and spray it will some black or pearl-white spray paint.

Actually it has a CDMA and LTE radio and has a SIM card slot. But nowhere else really uses the Band 13 LTE Verizon deploys, so can't really use it anywhere else. Maybe when Videotron starts setting up the C1 band in Canada then can use those phones here.
Contacted a few buying agents in the hope of importing one from the US, but they told me a monthly plan is required for purchasing this phone, so resales are not likely to circulate for the moment.
The ffollowing guide from k1mu worked on rooting my mobile f3q. Also I was able to buy the device out right from a mobile store in California for 339.99 plus tax for a total of 368.04 . This was with no monthly plan. Hope this helps anyone Else out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758

Brilliant. Now Cyanogenmod someone please and I'll get this as my second device, even though I already have a nicely working Samsung Galaxy Relay (with slide-out qwerty also).
Wow, rooted already. This phone is definitely promising.
...I wonder if there's enough of us outside USA that it might be worth getting someone reliable to do a group purchase for us?
I can just see it now, some random guy walking into a T-Mobile store and asking for 26 F3Qs, 18 cases, 6 USB chargers and 5 dust protectors.

Why get AT&T version when T-mobile variant can be sim unlocked for $5

Title says it all. I'm running a 851 T-mobile variant with TWRP and AOKP (new rom posted today) on it. Same bands and LTE works perfect. So the question stands why don't you AT&T owners sell yours and do the same? More development is going on since the bootloader is already unlocked and the more using one version the better for development as well in my eyes.
Maybe there is a specific reason but what am I missing?
I'm on Sprint and paid 99 for my phone. That's the only reason.

Makes sense not switching carriers, and sprint is CDMA not GSM so wouldn't work regardless. Threads more toward the AT&T owners and all the Bootloader Bounty chatter....
Got ya. Us Sprint guys are in the same boat. If they succeed in an unlock I'm definitely gonna donate if they don't charge anything for it.
Well AT&T is the better network hands down so there's that and if someone didn't think about bootloaders and development before purchasing chances are they don't need or want to root so there's 2 really good reasons why not to sell an AT&T G3 for the same exact phone on another network. That and also that its the same exact phone on another network.
I did it, mine 855P is the same as international 855 but with LTE from Mexico and USA so I sold it and bought a T-Mobile just for the same price =D and I still have my wireless charger that came with my 855P + an upgrade from 16gb/2gb RAM to 32gb/3gb RAM, a good deal.

Well that exactly what i did had the 850 and sold it on ebay and got the 851. 851's are cheaper actually. Still on AT&T network, agree its the better network hands down. If I chose to sell this it can go either ATT or T-mobile and works on LTE for both.
I guess i don't see your argument at all..
That's really not a terrible idea, lol. I friggen hate having this locked bootloader on my 850. Does the TMobile variant have the EXACT same bands as the AT&T one?
My other option is to just sell this stupid thing and buy a Nexus X when it comes out.

Do it, I made money actually. And you can literally download the IMEI unlock app on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.servtified.unlock_lg_g3&hl=en) and pay 5 dollars to have it working on AT&T LTE in the matter of minutes. You do need to add your APN info for ATT but that''s it, works awesome!
Yes it has the exact same bands identical.

Not an argument, actually a reason to be satisfied with their purchase is that its on AT&T. I'm on T-Mobile but I don't defend their service, just went through them to lease the G3 and not pay outright for it. Going back to Straight Talk soon since I already SIM unlocked it. I would hope that a normal non obsessed person would consider all their options for US variants and not go through the headache of switching carriers for the exact same phone and sell the other. Not everyone cares about unlocking phones, some people are satisfied with simply having them, I'm not one of those people, but they do exist.

LG G4 (Question, Help, & Money)

This may be kinda long but please read, I really need some actual help. I can offer a little amount of cash (Paypal) for someone to really help me to get what I want and need.
A few days ago I upgraded from a dumb flip phone that I've used for years. So the logical choice would be the new LG G4, the best phone out there as of now. So I've had it for a few days and I've noticed a few things that are really annoying me, but I'd like to focus on my main issue.
The main issue I've had is, bloatware. Now I am a computer person that if I buy a new PC / laptop, etc. I don't even use it until I reinstall Windows. I HATE bloatware more than anything, and I knew that the phone would have some bloatware that I figured I could uninstall and such. I know nothing about phones so I've been reading up and I came across the Debloater program that disables apps, which is nice but not what I want. What I want is 100% no bloat, I want the OS and drivers for the phone on the main features such as Camera, Messener+, Keyboard, etc. I don't want any extra space or ram or even the battery being used by anything besides my
regular apps.
I've tried task managers and such but even having them auto kill apps it seems that it eats my battery just as much if not worse.
I found out about rooting and ROMs in my research and from what I can tell. I need to install a custom ROM, and I believe the one that will give me what I want is CyanogenMod? I'm told its the Android OS and NOTHING more. This is what I want, but I wanna be able to still install Android updates from my phone and not having to reinstall the new version of the ROM, so I'm not sure how updating works.
I'm not sure if my phone needs to be unlocked and / or rooted to install a custom ROM? If I need to be I need someone to help me through these also.
So is there anyway that someone could lead me step by step in installing CyanogenMod? I've saw some tutorials and such but since the G4 is new everything I find on it seems kinda sketchy or really confusing, so if anyone is willing to help me on FB Chat, Team Viewer, Steam, any other messenger, PLEASE PM me ASAP. I rather not try and follow a tutorial on something this pricy, I can't buy another phone. And they never work for me it seems. Plus live person to ask questions to is something I'll need.
NOTE: I have the VS98611a model of the G4, and I have Verison right now, but I'm going to switch to Cricket since Verison removed my features like FM Radio, Themes, etc. Not way to get those back?
To do what you're asking is to require a unlocked bootloader. You're on the verizon model, and it currently doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. You'd need the h815 or the T-Mobile (I believe) models as they have unlocked bootloaders right now.
I believe cyanogen is on their final 5.1 build. As in no more updates or nightly revisions for stability. Unless I'm mistaken.
I haven't heard of an aosp Rom direct from Google being offered on anything aside from the nexus line, but I could be mistaken.

I'm ready to leave Verizon now so when I leave them it will be unlocked. So then that will take care of that, right? I really wanna get this done...
Either way there is a way to unlock them without having that model, yes? I've heard of people unlocking phones for years.
Anyway to check if mine is unlocked?
Your boot loader is locked. You can root the phone and remove most bloat. That is all you can do at this time.
There is no way to unlock the boot loader on your model.
Until a workaround is found, you have no other options. Enjoy the phone as is. It's a great phone

I'm sure Verizon will do it for me when I leave them or I can't use it for any other carrier. I could return it and buy the unlocked version. But is it really worth it?
Whats the difference between the models and which is better anyways? I think I'm going to buy the unlocked version from offline.

Whats the difference between the models and which is better anyways? I think I'm going to buy the unlocked version from offline.

How do I check if its unlocked? Because I was just told that it IS INFACT unlocked. HOW DO I CHECK? Thanks.
Verizon will not care at all. They will not unlock the bootloader.
Carrier unlock is completely different.
The 815 Euro model only can be unlocked from LG. T mobile does not lock their bootloaders

How do I get my disabled features back? The FM Radio, Themes, etc. Guess Verizon got rid of them. If I leave Verison will I get them back? Or since it's a Verison phone... I don't get them?
Basically it's a Verizon phone. You don't get them.
What are all the G4 models and their carrier?
Which models are unlocked?
Which models come with ALL features?Clearly the VS986 Verizon doesn't.
The H815 is the International version?? I hear its a bloat free version and its unlocked? Does it work with carriers in the US? Cricket, Verizon, Sprint?
I don't know what to do, so many models, no one has any information.

The International H815 can be unlocked and will work on GSM carriers such as ATT or T-mobile only. Basically, if your carrier uses a SIM card, it should work.

I want all my features, no bloat, unlocked, and works with Verizon and Cricket.
Which do I need to get for this?
You can change the Network mode on the Phone, from Global, to LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM/UMTS, so as long as the H815 has those same options, you should be able to use it with ANY carrier, Cricket, Verizon, ATT, etc. Right? Just tell me what model I need to get what my first line asks.
H815 does not work at all with CDMA, (aka Verizon/Cricket/Sprint/Boost) You're best bet is going to be rooting your phone or waiting for a bootloader unlock. (bootloader unlock might or might not ever happen) Rooting your phone will allow you to remove most of the bloatware.
Honestly, you're freaking out over nothing.
Disable any apps you don't want to see, and they'll go away forever. At this point in time, bloat is only a concern for power users who want to fine tune their phones, as a first time smart phone user you should focus only on the great new features your phone will have.

1. Verizon got rid of some of my features I'd like to use. I won't EVER be able to get this back since it's a Verizon phone.
2. I need to move to Cricket since Verizon did the above and cost more.
I'm told I can switch, but I won't know until I cancel and go to Cricket. So I wanna know what version to get and go straight to Cricket.
Just because it's my first phone doesn't mean anything. I fine tune my PC like crazy and it runs amazing. I've turned everything off on this phone and yet it's down 11% not being used while I slept. That's bad.
Seems like the G4 sucks a little because only 1 is unlocked?

Cricket is NOT CDMA anymore. Hasn't been for almost a year since AT&T bought them and converted to GSM.
OP, get the H815. It will work on cricket bands and the bootloader is unlocked. It's exactly what I will be doing soon since I'm officially sick of Samsung (Sammy fangirl here, or used to be) and them turning their phones into crapple. I have cricket service as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I made a new thread since I"m focused solely on the H815. There are many versions of it though. I will be buying it Monday I hope.

I'd be interested in what you wind up with. What do you mean many variants? If I pick one up, I want to make sure I get the correct one (sim unlocked as well as manufacturer unlockable bootloader) that is compatible with cricket. TIA.

How can I tell if my cell carriers Z2's are eligable for unlocking the bootloader?

I've been out of the game for a bit so I'm a little lost, are ALL the z2 phones boot loaders unlockable through the Motorola Devs site, or only the ones from Sprint and T-Mobile? I haven't been to my store to see which particular version of the Z2 they sell yet, but I'm also looking at the LG V30 which I know I need a specific version number (998). What do I need to look for before I buy the Z2 to make sure I can unlock it and flash TWRP?
I used to be an android tweaker back when I was in middle school (about 2009-ish) and then switched to apple. Now I'm done with that and want to get back into android so I'm looking into what phones are out and my tiny local cell carrier offers the V30 and the Z2 Force which are both contenders. I'm particularly interested in using Magisk which wasn't around back in the day
Thanks!
I think only AT&T and Verizon models can't be unlocked unless another carrier out of the US also told Moto they don't want them unlocked.

Thanks would like to know myself. I'm on Verizon but would like maybe to root and wondering which bootloaders can be unlocked and which can't. Verizon isn't to friendly in that respect.
Thanks.

stay away from the LG phones if you want an unlocked bootloader. unless you get an international variant they will not be what you want. I just got rid of my G6 because of this. They allow you to unlock your BL on Tmobile but guess what? No fastboot commands work!!! Seems all the new Lg's are doing this now

Thanks! Is there a way to differentiate between those that can be unlocked and those that can't based on serial number of something? I need to be able to know before I leave the store because if I can't root, I don't want to switch back yet.

Well I'm not on any of those four lol, thats why I want to know if I can tell by serial number or something. Otherwise I suppose I can go buy the thing, try the moto website, and if it's not eligible I'll just tell my carrier I didn't like the phone and since the warranty should still be good they'll let me "test drive" it for two weeks.

Have a friend who has TMobile buy it outright, after 7 days you can carrier unlock it via calling in to TMobile and them giving you the SIM unlock code. The T-Mobile account must be current, phone be active, and must be purchased, you can't carrier unlock (via carrier) unless it is purchased and not leased, rented, amount owed on device. Will it work on Vz? I wouldn't know to be honest.

Thanks I thought I had something going lol. I did read about getting the code but it didn't go through the details. That is probably why Moto is.not selling an unlocked version. I'm not so much interested in a custom.rom but would like root. I'm in a tough signal area in Wisconsin and the only phones that work well here are Motorola. I've tried the Note 8, Pixel2XL even the Essential none of them are worth a darn signal wise. I have the original Z Force but Verizon so no root. Oh well back to the boards. Thanks Again.

That is why I left Vz. Great signal but I want unlock options. Having to use rumrunner on my HTC M7 was a pain compared to just going to HTCdev and accepting the voided warranty. HTCdev, Motorola unlock site, etc will always work. Programs like rumrunner, Sunshine, etc can be patched via update and not work on newer firmwares. No bueno in my book.
I first bought the VZW Z2 Force and fell in love with it but I couldn't live without root. I sent it back and went to TMO and got one. TMO signal in my area is terrible, many dead spots. I don't own this phone but I'd pay it off in a heartbeat if I knew I could carrier unlock it and then throw my Verizon SIM card in it. Nobody has tried yet?

Usually it would require the Verizon flash all and then it depends if Lenovo went cheap and put the Verizon specific frequencies for LTE in all models. Most of the time each phone for different carriers are from different batches with tiny hardware differences. Some times the radio is the exact same and the modem firmware file depicts what frequencies are unlocked. (Most of us modders went away from Verizon for what my previous post explains, so possibly no one who has Verizon has tried to bite the bullet).
If I didn't have Verizon I wouldn't be able to make a call from my.house. That's how bad it is right here and that's only because of a Network extender. You could still try it all you have to do is carrier unlock it and try. Anybody's Verizon sim will work.

Not going to lie I had to look MVNO up but Wikipedia says Verizon. ****...so I guess that means I'm out of luck
EDIT: My company does sell the snapdragon Galaxy devices though. I know the boot loader is locked but they can still get root and I can still run exposed then right? It'll really suck not having a custom recovery but Xposed should give me enough to play with. I'll have to jump over to those forums
