We use the stock recovery (adb sideload) to root the G3 with ioroot.
Can be the stock recovery used to flash packages to the phone? I tried one but it responded with footer error and package not signed message.
Could somebody explain the possible functions of the stock recovery? Many thanks in advance.

Sphinx ROM uses the stock recovery with ADB to install.

I broke recovery trying to use Flashify to install TWRP
Now I get "SECURITY BOOT ERROR" when trying to go into recovery
1) Instead of flashing stock rom, can't I just use adb push using loki_flash and TWRP 2.6.3.2
or do I have to flash stock rom?

For future visitors of this thread:
This does not solve the security error itself but will prevent it in the future. I am looking to find how to solve that security error now and I think the solution is one of these two methods shown here: I think I am going to use the "RETURN TO STOCK TOT Method!"

I have an odd issue, I can get into recovery but I cannot boot.
I have the Sprint G2. I downgraded to ZVE then OTA'd to ZVH.
I then rooted it.
I then flashed the zv7-aboot.img and used Flashify to flash twrp_2.6.3.3_loki-ls980.img
It rebooted into recovery, I flashed xposed-uninstaller-20160829-arm.zip
I rebooted and I got a Secure Boot Error, and it then goes to that grayish/black screen that people talk about, and shows up as the unformatted drive.
Any ideas?
I can't flash clockworkmod recovery provided on that page. I install the .apk then flash recovery and then reboot recovery but it just does a normal reboot. I saw there is TWRP recovery. Can I flash the ROM through TWRP? I asked on the ROM page but nobody told me a solution. Does someone have a clue why I can't flash clockworkmod recovery or if I can flash it through TWRP recovery?
Would be helpful to give some information as Most variants have a locked boot loader and can't install a recovery.

yes.
maybe you remove the permission for recovery installer from supersu app and grant new permission when you install recovery?!
S3v3n mod is for d855 running 10h stock only.
You need first to root device using purple drake lite, then install CWM IPK and then run it from same IPK,then having s3v3n mod on Device storage, select install zip, aroma installer starts you select options and install.

Root by unlocking the bootloader via HTCDev.com and then just install custom recovery and flash current (2.56) SuperSU zip.
One click root solutions won't work with a locked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader is really the key.
Once rooted, you can OTA. But you need to have stock ROM (nothing altered in /system partition) and you need to re-install stock recovery. Root is okay (although you will likely lose root) and unlocked bootloader is okay to OTA. To root again after an OTA, just install custom recovery and flash SuperSU again.
Thanks a lot. I will unlock the bootloader and can you link me to a good tutorial or guide on how to install custom recovery and supersu?
Thanks again

The following guide is a pretty good one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799796
Although some links are outdated:
1) Installing HTCSync should be fine to get the HTC drivers on your computer; or you can search XDA for more recent HTC drivers. The HTC drivers linked in the guide are really old.
2) Get the latest SuperSU zip here: http://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
3) And if you need an easy adb/fastboot installer, just use the XDA seach function with the phrase "simple adb" and you will get a few results for beginner adb guides and installers.
4) Get the latest version of TWRP here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m8

hello I saw your post Im planning also to root my m8 but I dont want to flash the custom recovery someone told me it is possible
just download the custom recovery
then type "fastboot boot recovery.img" = this will boot my m8 to custom recovery but not flash so I can flash the supersu in that custom recovery then reboot after that stock recovery is still intact

That's true, you can boot TWRP remotely with fastboot, without actually flashing it (installing to the phone).
Although its slightly irrelevant; you can always flash back to stock recovery back to the phone (over-write TWRP). You can either find your stock recovery posted in the collection; or back it up your self using the fastboot TWRP trick (fastboot boot TWRP, and use TWRP to backup stock recovery). In that instance, the fastboot boot TWRP trick is very useful.
Having TWRP installed after root is very useful. Reason being, it gives you a lot more recovery options if things go south. And also, for a lot of mods done under root, you will want to backup your stock setup anyway (just in case the mod goes wrong, and you need to revert). Stock recovery is close to useless for anything but installing OTA updates.

Dear all, as i mentioned My LG G3 F400s doesn't accept any custom roms but no problems about stock roms
It was accepted in the past but not now, I tried everything to solve this problem but nothing work
before I used cloudy and fulmics without any issues but last month I tried to flash OTA I got Boot-looping then i used flash tools to flash kitkat.tot and rooted it to flash custom rom but I got boot-looping again
I repeated all steps and after flashed kitkat I flashed Lollipop.kdz by LGUP and it accepted but after flash the custom recovery I got "secure boot error" message
I did that many times with different versions of custom recovery and custom Rom (Cloudy and fulmics) but after all steps I got Boot-looping
Now I am using MM stock Rom but there is no root for it yet, So any help please.
sorry for my bad English I tried to explain as much as I can.
Thanks.
So you mean you are unable to flash recovery on your device.
Which recovery and recovery version are you flashing. From where you are downloading the recovery.
Have you tried to install recovery using autorec. If not give it a try from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/apk-flash-twrp-autorec-thanks-to-t3081396
Tell me if it fixes you problem.
my problem not flashing recovery, i already flashed it many times (twrp) but after flash the rom with the recovery I got boot-looping but now I am in MM so I cant flash recovery (No Root)
any way I will try to flash recovery with AutoRec in MM and I will replay
Thank you.

Unfortunately , autorec. need root access so i am not able to use it.
G3 has root access for marshmallow why are you saying its not ?? Try flashify for twrp flash check youtube for a demo .... After successful flashing then root ur device download kernel auditor check to see if u have stock kernel or previous custom rom kernel always make sure u have a backup of root + stock rom in twrp always
Use kingroot apk to root it temporary using internet connection and then flash recovery by flashify or adb method. After that flash supersu zip or just flash rooted custom roms.

Flash stock kernel now only stock kernel not with bootloader via twrp then try flashing custom rom make backup first via twrp
Hello,
I got a used G3 for my gf. I installed the latest LG marshmallow rom with LG flash tool.
After that I rooted and installed TWRP 3.0.2-0. Within TWRP I erased data and wiped everything.
Now when I try to install a rom (tried 3-4 different ones) I get this error:
"set_metadata_recursive some changes failed".
How should I proceed?
Great many thanks!
Just a quick question to understand what you've done:
If you installed "the" latest marshmallow rom with the flash tool, then how did you root and install TWRP? You can't root Marshmallow properly; That needs to be done from 10B.

Maybe I used the wrong terms. I flash "Europe D85530B_00_1217.kdz" with the flash tool. Afterwards the phone was on 6.0. Then rooted with Kingroot (if I remember correctly).
