my nexus 7 has a broken screen. but i can see images on it
i was wondering if i could disable permanently the screen for it to stop it glitching.
to do this, do i need root and if so can i root with a usb-otg for the mouse.

OK, in what way is the screen broken? It doesn't respond to touch at all or broken/smashed/broken
And what glitching do you get?
There is no way to disable the screen (do you mean digitizer here not the LCD?)
And you don't need to root for USB mouse.

the mouse works, but i was wondering, in some roots, you need to touch it and was asking if mouse works in them
the screen works, but is cracked, and there are lots of spassms even when i dont touch it, i think its to do with the broken digitaliser
-its got 4large cracks but you can still see everything.
No response to touch
by glitching i mean lots of touches, i turned on the thing where you can see the touches from developer optionsand it goes crazy sometimes
can i disable digitizer to stop it registering these things?
Why not just buy a replacement digitizer and replace it. There are YouTube video that walk you thru it and is really not that difficult!

Happened to me when the touchscreen broke on mine. I even disconnected the touchscreen ribbons and still experienced ghost touches when I held the tab in a certain position with pressure on the lower left glass surface. Guess it had to do with the lcd interference. Only solution for me was to replace either the touchscreen or the assembly.
Just replace it

How or why does one use a touch based android tablet with no touch screen? Especially when you are holding it at different angles? Why do you use it for? Fanning yourself when it gets warm?
Wouldn't this be like asking how to use a Windows computer without a mouse and a keyboard because you don't have a mouse and a keyboard?

hi all! couldn't find a similar thread here.. so here goes..
my BA has been working fine until yesterday, when i slid the keyboard out,
the screen turns reddish!
but it only happens when the keyboard is slid about 75%, beyond the top roy of keys..
when i slide it back, then screen turns back to normal!
i'm guessing there's a cable loose in there, some hardware prob?
haven't dropped it, nor installed any programs recently..
yes it is very probably flex cable malfunction
same problem here.... haven't dissambled it or anything, but when i slide the KB out like even just a bit, sometimes the screen whites out.. have to turn it off and on again for screen to return to normal (sometimes it works). and always, when the slide is moved even a few millimeters, the TS would be misaligned.
Same problem The screen turns white almost always now.. Think it will die soon. The flat cable to the screen can't be changed. I think the only way to solve this is by opening the cable and drawing broken contacts with liquid silver (used for tv remote control buttons).
Anyone got any other solution??????
same problem...in fact its growing nearing the part where i jus touch the slider to move out....im gonna be in helluva trbl wen this thing breaks....anyone help....
To be honest, I think that the only solution is to glue it when it's closed... :baby:
have the same problem here. i know its a flex problem. i just dont use the keyboard anymore so that it wont get damaged further.
When closed my screen works just fine, and when I open for the keyboard it STILL works just fine, except that the whole screen shifts upward, so that part of the taskbar is actually off of the screen. If I open it slowly it seems like about at 10% open the screen flips horizontal, as it should, but then at about 80% of the way open the whole screen shifts upward until part of it is offscreen. Its not nonfunctional at all, but it is a nuisance, especially when playing any games I have the hardkeys setup as a controller. I've tried a full wipe and rom re-install and that didn't fix it. Also it seems like I've had to do a factory wipe more than once recently because the Home and Search touch areas have stopped working. Is there a weird software glitch going on or is my touchscreen on the way out?
I'm either going to just replace the screen for 35 bucks because its already kinda screwy, but if that won't also solve the weird screen shift issue ill just buy a new phone, any ideas?

Ok - so I think its hardware because the screen shifts even when the phones still booting. Would a new lcd fix this maybe?

I had the exact same problem. Your issue is in your ribbon cable, I was able to get my phone replaced but if that isn't an option for you, you can buy a ribbon cable and follow a very easy tutorial to install it

awesome, I've taken apart the phone a few times before, so now that I know the issue I can repair it finally! thank you so much for replying!! Which Ribbon cable are we talking about?
It is the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the keyboard through the z-hinge. I've never replaced it myself, but if your phone is completely normal closed and then distorts as it opens, then it definetely sounds like the ribbon cable has bad contact as it's stretched. It's really one of the only things it can be, if it were your lcd then the distortion would persist even in portait I would think

I must agree with the above poster, seems like its the ribbon too!
Hallo to all!
i've already tryied to search this topic in all the forum, but didn't find anything...pls tell me if something similar already exists!
so my problem: i have a touch pro 2 (RHOD100), and the last week i broke the touch screen (due to accidental heavy pression on it)...all works, but no TS function...
so (here starts my trouble) i decide to change by myself...i bought a new one (only TS) on ebay and make the change....
no problem with the hardware change, but now my display stay white...
some consideration:
- OS start with no problem (start sound and button sound)
- all flats are plugged correctly (checked many times)
- the backlight of the lcd works well (low light after some time)
some help? maybe i forget something important?
thanks a lot in advance to any helpers!!

When you changed the touch screen did you remove the flex cable that connects the upper half of the phone to the motherboard? Are you sure you didn't break the LCD screen itself?
hallo,
yes i remove the flat, and plug back again where changed - when i press on the TS (with white screen) i can ear the "tap"
i cannot be sure, but it light on...i think is enought...or not?
thanks for you're help!

It looks like like either the flex cable got damaged or it's not plugged right. It could also be the LCD flex, where lcd plugs into the small connectors under the four buttons at the bottom of the touch screen not being connected properly. Did you lift the small levers where the flex cables go into the mother board or where the lcd/touch screen gets plugged in or did you just push them in?
i lift the lever where pull out the flex, and pull it down when restore the connection... and i'm almost sure about connection, also because them are so "stricted" in the plug himself...
but i find really strange that the lcd is on (completely white), you don't think so?
also if it is damaged, should be not white...or maybe, as you say, a flat problem?
this evening i will re-open it for a check...i don't know what else do...
maybe i will try to buy a complete kit (TS+lcd)...
i will surely let you know

The screen being white, means it's receiving power but not video signal. There coud be different reasons for that. It happened to me couple of times. What I did was lift the connector lever, pull the flex connector out (where it connects to the motherboard) just a tiny bit and secure the connector with the lever and it worked. If the flex cable is going bad it could be that just one line or two are going bad not the whole thing, thus still delivering power but not video signal.
If your problem is with the flex buying a new screen/digitizer will not fix it. When you screen is white does it go out if you slide out the keyboard?
hallo,
sorry for late answer,
i make some test with flat, but the result is the same...
the screen always stay white, but i can ear the start sound, the pression sound, etc...so it seems it's just the lcd...
maybe i can try to buy a complete set lcd+ts?
thanks for answer

I could be wrong, but I think it's the flex cable that is bad not the LCD screen itself. The flex cable has several small thin lines, what is happening is the power is getting to the LCD screen but the video signal is not, so most probably one of teh video signal lines is broken.
Hi everyone.
After a sudden heavy rain, I got some water in my Gnex. I tried the old bag of rice trick, only to find out the USB port was not functioning any more, neither for PC connectivity, nor for charging.
Following the advice of a person I no longer consider my friend, I tried spraying some Isoprpyl Alcohol in the USB port. It did get it to work correctly, but it damaged the digitizer, meaning I get random touches on the lower part of the screen (where the Back, Home and Recent apps buttons are).
I took the phone to a service centre where they tried to clean it, but the issue remains. I'll go there today with my wife's phone to see if it's indeed a touchscreen issue or a motherboard issue. I'm not sure if I want to invest in a new screen (over $100 + maybe a new back cover since the current one has quite a few scratches and cracks) and I'm thinking of maybe upgrading to a Nexus 5 or Xperia Z (the latter being waterproof).
The question now would be, could I do something with the hardware? Like, root it, connect it to my wifi and use it as a web server, or connect it to my TV through an MHL adapter and get a "smart TV". Can I get it to ignore touches on the screen completely, and only accept an OTG/bluetooth mouse input?
Any idea is welcome

One day I got caught in a storm having my Gnex in my pocket. Vacuum and rice tricks didn't work completely, as the phone was working properly besides recognizing the sim card (Mboard issue). What I did was buy a broken screen nexus off of Ebay, and exchanged the screens.
Now I have a fully working mobile phone, plus an MHL connected - XBMC enabled smart TV box, connected with bluetooth mouse/keyboard.
Question: Why would you need to ignore touches on the screen?
As I said, after spraying the USB port with isopropyl alcohol, it appears to have touches all over the bottom part of the screen, as if someone was constantly keeping 3-4 finger and touching away at the soft buttons. Cleaning the phone in a service centre did not help.

Sorry, I missed that info. Try searching for 'touch blocker' in Google Play. Don't know if that would work on a Gnex though.
Another (hardcore) idea would be to disconnect the screen altogether.
Its been some days, I'm experiencing this weird touch screen problem.
My DZ touch screen doesn't respond properly.
For example:
If i see an image and slide just one finger up and down then it would zoom in and out. And then the whole screen becomes unresponsive.
It seems as if, its touched by itself. Even the softkeys would go numb. Only the haptic feedback of my search button works at that moment.
But the trackpad works perfectly.
But, If i lock and unlock the screen using power buttons, it would work properly for some few moment and then again the problem repeats.
At present I'm repeating this process of locking and unlocking screen to use my phone.
One even worst weird thing is that, if the device is connected to a charger and kept on the table or floor. This problem doesn't occur.
I have done system format, restored my nandroids and even changed Roms. The problem still exists.
Please note, i don't use any Casing or covers that would press the device hard for malfunctioning of screen. I have even removed and replaced my screen guard.
I'm sure, its not a software issue.
And even i dont think its a strip issue, because i dont use my physical keyboard always.
Can anyone say what hardware issue it might be..?
Or what i need to do? I'm really out of options.
Do i have to replace my whole screen or the digitizer..?
Thanks...
Thats no fun,
As you stated it's more than likely a hardware fault, the two most likely culprits would be the digitizer or the main flex cable
Which would be this and this
both relatively easy to replace depending on your experience
in 4.x and up ROMs check the developers setting to show touch or use apps like
z device test
or
yet another multitouch test
these wont help you fix the issue but may show you where the bad points are on the screen
best of luck
I know the problematic spot. Its near Search softkey. Even Yet another multi-touch test would stuck at that spot....
As you can see in the image, that i'm not holding anywhere, still it shows that somewhere around Search softkey its touched by itself.
In second image, If i move my fingers around, it would show the other touch responds, but if i slide near search, it would go and stuck there itself.
So, i guess i would first go with the flex cable.
In actuality I'm leaning toward the digitizer in your case, but its possible to be either.
And if you have a spare phone it may be worth disassembling even without buying anything. On a G1 I once fixed a similar issue just taking out the digitizer and cleaning the contacts on the ribbon and the edges of it as well, when I put it back it worked like new. I think some dust may have gotten into the edges but it may be worth a shot before buying anything... But could make matters worse so if you don't have a spare, buy parts first
Best of luck
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I guess i should try disassembling and clean it first. If it still persists then i would go for digitizer.
And thanks for giving a hope.
Thanks...
