Anyone with high battery usage? I just powered on my tab and in 7 minutes I got 5% battery draining with screen off...

I had a similar battery drain on my Tab S on the first day, there was a service called I think IndexService draining a lot of juice. It doesn't seem to be there in the battery list any more so maybe it runs when you first insert a MicroSD card or transfer a lot of media over to the tablet?
I would highly recommend turning off Wi-Fi during sleep, I do this on all my Android devices and it saves a lot of battery life. Go into Settings, Wi-Fi, Options, Advanced and change the option "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Only when plugged in"
I will try! Thank you

This morning I've powered up my tab after one night long charging and battery it's 98 ?
It's my tab or a know issue?
Sent from my Galaxy Tab S 8.4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've not noticed that on my T700.
I've just charged this morning from the wall socket adapter at about 30% battery remaining. It's taken about 2:15 to reach 100% and I've been using the tablet for about 1 hour during that time.
I do loose about 1-2% charge overnight when the tablet is unplugged and on standby (not switched off). I'd say that this is about right for an android device and certainly no worse than any other tablet/phone I've ever used.
Same this morning. I've charged over the night with tab turned off. The Green battery on the screen says 100%. I powered up my tab and battery is 98%...
So...or powering up cost 2%, which is strange or there is something wrong in battery stats I think...

Have you tried charging with the tablet switched on (in standby) rather than switched off?
Maybe it needs this to calibrate the battery.

My "screen on time", is the same as my " battery time." I had my battery on 50% and it was also on power saver. The only time I don't use power saver is when I'm using games. My battery drain was for watching videos (YouTube, Netflix) ,Tapatalk app all day, and web browsing.

Almost 7 hours with 53% battery drain. That's fantastic for me and my usage.
I have just noticed this problem, fully charged to 100% then powered off the tab, 1.5hrs later 93% power left.
Anyone tried this and get similar problems.

My problem is with the tab completely powered off, and not in sleep mode, a friend of mine who works for samsung asked me to give some readings so he can deal with the problem.
I have another reading with network on (no data), standby/sleep for 1hr from 100%, the battery went to 95%, 5% in 1hr.

i'm not too sure if a update will clear this up, but i'll see what my friend can do, I think samsung has a design problem with this tab, heat, deformed and battery issue, that is one trade off for having a ultra thin tab.
I also haven't been getting the best milage out of my battery, and unfortunately having the screen brightness cranked up is a major culprit. It's a shame to hobble such an awesome screen, but turning it down makes a massive difference.

Last night I restored my phone using the factory image. For some reason I anticipate an OTA soon so I wanted to be ready. Anyhow, before I suffered from the battery drain bug. I forgot to charge my phone last night, and didn't realize it until I got in my car and put it on the car charger and it said 89%. My first thought was that my battery drained over 10% in the hour I was getting ready and not using it! Then I went into battery settings and found out I never charged it.. then I found some pleasant... well, I'll just show you.

As you can see, I lost less than 5% battery during the 6+ hours my phone was unplugged. I had the phone in the living room charging while watching a movie. Then I unplugged and used it for about 20 minutes in the bedroom which accounts for the first rapid drop in battery. But after I set it down, the phone went into a coma. And I can't see exactly, but it looks like it was only 2 or 3% which is great!
Not sure what changed, I still have the same apps installed, even Facebook. I did, however, NOT disable VZ backup assistant like I normally do. Maybe that is what causes the OS to go bonkers? Thoughts?

I got about 20 hours out of mine yesterday (extended battery) with moderate usage (texting, ebay, facebook, web) This is after unlocking the bootloader and rooting. Unlocking the bootloader resets the phone to factory state. I've read a few other posts around the web where battery life is greatly improved after a factory reset. Android OS is still the main things devouring my battery, but I almost don't care with the performance I'm getting. I should also mention that I wiped battery stats from CWM and then calibrated the battery on first charge.
I'm no dev, so I don't know why a reset would help. Then again, maybe it was wiping battery stats and calibrating that helped me. Just my $.02
How did you calibrate the battery?
There's a free tool in the market that will calibrate for you. Have to be rooted though. Just search for calibrate.

Surprised this isn't getting more acknowledgement. Any one else experience the same after a reset?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Guess maybe I'm one of the lucky few...I've always had this type of battery life. The phone just sips power while the screen is off.
While it is on...well that's different. I keep the brightness high and get about 2-2.5 hours of screen time before it powers off.
The interesting thing here is that it seems that you have the Android OS constantly waking up the phone but yet it still barely uses battery.
Do you have location services turned on or off?
Turned on. I noticed that too but the overall awake time is low. Usually it would be over half of the entire time on battery, sometimes 100%.

I used 50% in about 3 hours on my extended battery.
fml.
Great battery life, but you didnt really use your phone much.
Your "Screen on" is only about 15% of those 6 hours. Which ends up being about an hour.
Still, none the less, great battery life/power consumption.

I unplugged my phone at 11:30 pm with 98%, woke up at 7:30 am today and it dropped to 76%. So a 20% drop in 8 hrs with the phone just sitting there with wi-fi on and no apps running. It'd be very interesting to see if a factory restore would help.
How's the battery life now that you're using it?
Im thinking of unlocking and rooting mine tonight. havent had a moment to read the walkthrough just yet.
i noticed this too last night/today. i went to sleep after installing bugless beast 4.0.3 cdma, left it off the charger, and today i saw the chart was pretty much a flat line. i don't recall the exact times, but i'll try to time it out. about 8 hours
i wonder if all the initial extreme battery drain reports are due to the 'wowanewphone' effect, where you are molesting your phone 24/7, as opposed to the typical day-to-day use you'll eventually fall back into
I know this is another battery topic, but specifically I am getting a drain of about 3% every 5 minutes while browsing the web on data. I am getting this drain at both 50% and 20% brightness. This drain seems high to me. I mean, during that 5 minutes, I am mostly just browsing one long page, so there is not much data activity going on in any case. Bluetooth, gps, and wifi are all off. I would like to hear other folks' experience.
Edit: my old hd2 with a small 1250 battery is running android and is only losing 1% every five minutes while doing the same thing!!
Possibly. Screen white or black factor. Type and speed of connection. Background processes. Battery temp. But that is a little higher.

Your not supposed to use it, just keep it in your pocket.
Its probably down to bad battery calibration. This is a lot less to do with 'conditioning' the battery - which you don't need on Lithium based batteries - and more to do with Android understanding what level is 100%, 99%, 98% 50% and 0% etc.
Until you've been through a few real cycles from full to empty, the % is pretty inaccurate. Most people recharge at around 20 to 40% just because a charger is near by or its bed time, and that usually results in the levels being even more inaccurate at the higher end.
For example my battery will drop from 100% to 70% very quickly, the next 30% even slower and the last 40% seems to last forever :/
If you're rooted wipe your battery stats, do a full charge and let it drain to 0. The type of usage probably isn't that important, so play a game for 4 hours if you want . If you're not rooted, doing the same will still help make it more accurate, but of course previous usage will mess with those results.
---------- Post added at 04:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:02 PM ----------
EDIT: In fact try this.. turn off the screen timeout temporarily, and leave it on the web page. Check the % every 5 minutes and keep a note of them. You should see that its not 3% over 5 minutes once you get past the first 10 to 20% of the battery.
Here is my overnight battery drain test. My phone was idle the whole time. Only on 2G mode and no wifi, no gps and no bluetooth.

Silly GSM users commenting on LTE device. tsk tsk... they just don't understand the immense power + battery drain of LTE.
LTE drains battery much much faster then GSM/3G. That's how it is on ALL LTE phones & the fact that the GN also has the biggest screen helps rape the battery. Sadly, what you are experiencing is normal for LTE. Im on my 2nd Nexus & calibrated both of the ones i had. Same exact issue as you and regardless of what apps/settings you adjust/disable, it's not going to help with battery much at all unless you turn off "mobile data"/LTE(or go into airplane mode).
When i have LTE on and am actually using the phone it seems like it's going through 1% battery every 1-2 minutes.... yet if i turn "mobile data" off it goes through 1% every 8 - 10 minutes instead. oh and all you weirdo "look how long my battery lasted NOT using my phone!" freaks... if i activate "airplane mode" & turn off the screen the battery will last 2 days. wee!!.. I had both the LTE and GSM models. While both are terrible on battery, they lasted about the same. I did have the extended battery in the LTE, so I take that in consideration when saying they lasted about the same. No huge difference on the LTE.

I charged it up during the day yesterday, but then hammered it syncing my emails, sms messages and other things.
So, last night was my first real charge. I took it off the charger at 6am this morning, and right now, at just a few minutes less than 5 hours, I'm at 83% with 70% use being cell standby.
I'm sticking with HSPA+ today, because I know that will drain the battery more than WiFi (at least that was the case on my Atrix) and I'm trying to get a feel for the battery life when away from WiFi.
Now, full disclosure, my phone has 6 email accounts setup for push. An Exchange account, two Gmail accounts and three Imap idle accounts using k9 mail. Still, I would say it's burning battery at a little higher rate than my Atrix with those same six push email accounts.
5 hours and down to 40%.
:-(
I'm seeing a significant increase in battery life whith the s3 over the s2

7.5 hrs @ 57%.
I'll post screens when I can.
5 Hours, 45%, screen on 2 hr, 12 min.
Interesting thing: I have a Pandora Widget on my screen, have not used it at all, and 13% of my power, and show son for 22 min.
9.5 hrs @ 29%.
I am using the default juicedefender profile.
Cell standby hogs the battery more than other phones like US One X with same SoC. I think kernel devs can work on this since this is not normal.
To get a good idea on battery life, everyone needs to show their screen on time as it should be the biggest drain.

This is a question for the new owners of the galaxy note 2. Have you noted the "screen-on" time for battery to go from fully charged to drop dead? One of the biggest problem with the Super AMOLED devices is the (relatively) abysmal battery life when web browsing as they do quite well when playing video. Let's say if you were to primarily browse the web on the device how much screen-on time would you get?

Sorry! I don't believe Note 2 can do like that. How about your heavy meaning?
On my original Note1, I got 4 hours max of screen-on time while browsing/facebooking.
Hopefully the note2 will be an improvement over that!
I got my Note 2 today, brand new and box-fresh. At 09:30 this morning I fired it up and it had 55% battery, so I logged into my Google account, did what you do with a new Android smartphone, downloaded a bunch of Apps, really put it under some heavy load, made a few calls, SMS, plenty of multi-tasking etc. At 15:30 it was showing 6% battery life including 2h50m of screen time.
For a fresh battery and heavy use, I think that's pretty good going.

thats odd as phone arena tried a battery test and found they would get around 9 hours continous video playback at full brightness and they say with half brightness they would come close to razor maxx at 14 hours screen time?
but still ill wait till others have tested it properly
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-II-vs-Galaxy-Note_id3136/page/4
Video playback doesn't consume much battery on AMOLEDs, web browsing is more battery-consuming due to white backgrounds. Also, phone Arena said clearly that the phone was on airplane mode.

very good battery life... for almost 2 days (I used S3, S2 before and this is a very good phone)
The mains adaptor that comes as standard with the Note II has a 5 Volt 2 Amp output that should be good at charging the battery as many existing power supplies are 1 Amp or less.
If you plan on using a car adaptor, don't buy a cheap low current one - most are only 500mAh or 750mAh.
looks like battery looking good so far from you guys..i say give it a week of cycles. still needs braking in...does the back get really warm when charging? is charge time fast?

Hey man,

Oh, and i don't know if that's relevant, but i disabled the fast charge, in order not to preserve the - non switchable - battery, it still charges quite fast.
I've checked three times now, i was never below 99% when i woke up.
Hope it helps.

only lost 1% with Always on Display? That doesn't sound right
I lose about 2-3% over night without Always on Display

Yet this is. I just turn the phone back (with the screen hidden) so that the "always on" doesn't turn on.
I am having massive battery drain
My phone drops 20% in 2 hours on standby and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out why android os is taking 500mb of data a day
20% Over night absolutely not normal!
Have to recharge phone twice a day.
I am on stock and cannot apply root (this is company phone).
When I had Nexus 5, battery drain was not so horrible.
Here is a picture of my battery drain
From start I have WiFi on and then I turn WiFi off and the battery drain stops
Can't understand why WiFi is draining my battery like this ?

Anyone wanna explain wtf is going on with this, I don't have any backing up turned on. No syncing no diagnostics uploading. No Google photo no Google Drive, all of that disabled with tons of apps disabled with package pro disabler
