[Q] Huge question on custom Rom and recovery - Sprint LG G2

I have a Lg G2 on sprint, running rooted software version LS980ZVC, with build number KOT49I.LS980ZVC. How do I load a custom recovry and rom with the least danger.

Greetings, to load a custom recovery, I recommend you download an app called AutoRec, this app is compatible with all variants of the LG G2, before you install this app, make sure that your unknown sources is "checked" in the Security settings, having unknown sources checked in the security settings allows you to install third party applications.
Once you've done that step, open "AutoRec", and install the custom recovery, once done, it will ask you to reboot your device, and now you have custom recovery.[emoji4][emoji4][emoji4]
Now speaking on custom Rom, download the Rom of your choice, once download is complete, boot into recovery mode and make a complete backup of all of your files in the Backup settings in recovery mode, once the backup is complete, go to "Wipe" and select "Advanced Wipe" put a check on Dalvik, System,Data, and Cache. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PUT A CHECK ON "INTERNAL STORAGE" IF YOU DO, YOU WILL DELETE THE OS IN ITS ENTIRETY!, after that, go to "Install" that's in "Recovery Mode" and select your Rom of choice and swipe to install, once completed, you have successfully installed a custom Rom, Enjoy[emoji4][emoji4][emoji4], I hope I'd been of assistance to your question.[emoji4][emoji4]

Which recovery should I load? Where do I find the proper recovery file, will this wipe my pictures/music.downloads?

AutoRec, it's a recovery mode based on TWRP, once installed, you will have Recovery Mode, you can install Rom Manager to automatically reboot into Recovery Mode, or you can manually reboot into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the power button and Volume Down button at the same time, once LG 's Logo appears, quickly repress and hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time, and you should reboot into Recovery Mode, The Wipe won't wipe your pictures/music.downloads AS LONG AS YOU KEEP INTERNAL STORAGE UNCHECKED IN THE ADVANCED WIPE SETTINGS IN "RECOVERY MODE" because that is were you'll find your pictures, music's and downloads, etc.

Okay, I have TWRP running, and I got the lies taken care of, followed your instruction to load pacrom, Phone shows Lg logo on boot, won't boot past it...

Try to reboot the phone again and see what happens, I had this issue happen with me before, I just restarded the phone, and that was the last time I saw the white lines.

There is a file to flash that eliminates it. I did that to get rid of them, but Pacrom will not boot... it only gives me the lg logo

- Root Phone
- Install FreeGee , Disable LG Security .
- Install CWM 6.0.4.5 from FreeGee
- Download V5 , update.zip from your forum.
- Download Baseband for E980 (But Link for Modem is not working on forum!)

I'm still not 100%sure that flashing a modem actually works I have flashed different modems on several different roms and never actually seen a change in the displayed modem.
Your steps listed are correct,,, I put my V5 on my ext sd card and I also wipe data factory reset after flashing V5....

This is what I did.
Flashed G2V5 wipe data factory reset
Then reboot. You will have to add your AT$T APN I use the phone apn,, also make sure your service is set to LTE auto
If you get good service IE LTE full bars and what not. Then u are good. No need to try flashing modem.
If your service isn't good then try flashing your modem. Personaly I haven't seen my modem actually change after flashing.
You can verify this yourself. After installing V5 go into setting General about software info and check your baseband version,,, then flash a different modem and check again. I'm my experience it never changes.

Or it appears when we set LTE APN .
Many thanks in Advance.
As soon as you have root unlocked and CWM, do a backup inside of CWM rewcovery, then continue with your list
My bad it's GSM/CDMA/LTE AUTO,, sorry,,
Once u flash G2V5 it will look like the picture below!
And uppon2 is correct backup your stock as soon as possible

I've had a great time with AOSB. However, I used MultiRom to check it out.
Here is my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvxGtKkWO0I&feature=youtube_gdata_player
When it first loaded, the screen didn't show up until I touched it. Kind of weird but no biggie. Make sure you clear all cache and stuff after flashing for the first time. Definitely make sure you wait a good bit the first boot up. Good luck.

Although I flash AOSB rom without gapps, it also stays "AOSB" logo.
I have this problem too.

I have root access but lack the ability to boot to recovery!

I'm currently running the stock Rom with build E98020h. I have successfully achieved root access and have verified it through several apps, and also have supersu installed and seemingly operating fine. I have tried using the 'g pro kitkat recovery' app to flash the recovery, and also freegee but freegee at the opening screen says my device is unsupported. When i go into rom manager v5.5.3.7 and try install a custom rom or even just tap boot to recovery i get an error at the loading screen with the LG logo and it sits there. Am i doing something wrong or is the 20h update keeping me from being to successfully reach recovery? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You could try using LG Flash Tool to go back to stock 4.1.2 (E98010k) and then using FreeGee to bypass and go from there. But idk if that'll work.

I don't think that's possible. You're going to have to flash back to an older version using lg flash tools. If you need to back up anything like texts and contacts, use G Cloud. If you need game data/other data related to specific apps backed up, use Helium. If you're attached to stock try flashing a stock ROM, it will be very similar to your experience now. That'll ensure you get the latest KitKat and still get stock experience... you can always go AOSP too.
thanks... I was hoping to just not have to Flashtools my phone again =P and since its been a while since I checked the forums I wasnt sure if 20h was sorted out yet or not.

I found this elsewhere trying to unlock my e980 that was on 20h when I got it.
OK so I found that G Pro KK recovery elsewhere and installed it but wasn't sure what to do from there.. Which option did you choose when running it? Flash recovery, reboot, or reboot recovery? I tried to reboot to recovery and I got into a CWM recovery, but at that point wasn't sure if I was really there or if I needed to flash the recovery from there or from the app.
I'm dying to get rid of the stock ROM on this thing but there are more steps involved than my previous devices.
Thanks!

All the APK does as I have found out is 'unlocks' the recovery access. After I ran that app I installed Freegee from the app store and installed the CMW recovery from there just to make sure it all was installed and correctly accessible. at that point you just need to download the ROM that you are intending to install and download it. put the zip somewhere in your directory. boot to recovery wipe the necessary mediums and then install from the app and CWM will take care of the rest. Most of the forum threads that have the links to the ROMs will have full instructions on how to install that certain ROM. I can supply links to some if need be. NOT MY THREADS but ones I found helpful.

installing the ROM isn't an issue for me, it's getting the recovery installed.
What process did you do after starting up the G Pro Recovery app? install recovery, reboot, then run freegee?

Yes. Open and run the G Pro Recovery app, once that is done you need to reboot. Install Freegee and open it. I installed CWM. You can use whatever you want. Then I reboot again, once the phone comes back up I used clockwork mods recovery manager to get in and out of recovery. Also, I pulled my SD card out of the phone prior to rooting as I would lose access to it after I did the process. So just to be safe you might want to do that.

Which root did you use?
Once you take the update then root your device again you have to do a factory reset on your phone in order to flash a recovery. Currently running E98020I, been there, done that! G Pro KitKat then FreeGee. Mic check 1 2, 1 2

If you just want to install the recovery, get an app call flashify from the play store. Install the app, then download and then flash the twrp .IMG file that you've gotten from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144369

LG upgrade tool sucks

had to manually install drivers, did not work through tool. and when I clicked upgrade it said I was up to date on 4.4.2. I got it to work by clicking the drop down in the top right corner and clicking upgrade recovery.
Did you happen to click "Options" on the top right then upgrade recovery?

Same here. I've been trying support tool since yesterday. Upgrade recovery tells me there is nothing to fix.
I'm on 10R rooted with twrp 2.8.6.1.

Make sure you don't take an OTA or upgrade to LP via the support tool w/ TWRP installed (or any third party recovery for that matter).

I know about the boot loop possibility. I fixed it once already.

Use KDZ tool.
See the sticky.
Honestly if you have twrp just upgrade to Lollipop via Autoprime's zip directly from twrp. They are stock roms directly from Tmobile so Wifi calling and VoLTE is included. Also the it will be rooted too. Unless you don't want twrp or root you can use the KDZ tool.

Yeah that would clean wipe it, if you wipe from TWRP. My steps is to do the factory wipe from Twrp then go to advance wipe and check mark everything in there besides the external sd card. Do the wipe 2 times or more just to make sure and since doesn't hurt to do so. Make sure the zip files for Lollipop are on the external sd card and not internal since you want a clean wipe.
