Unlocked, S-On, No OS - flash stock? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I want to buy a phone and it got some little problems:
Unlocked bootloader
s-on
Can boot into fastboot and TWRP.
Stucks at HTC logo (/system folder got deleted...)
Do I see it right, that I could simply install the stock version from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2694994
With going into fastboot and do:
"fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img" ?
or does this not work when the bootloader is unlocked?
I hope someone is able to help me
regards

If you have TWRP flashed already then head over to COLLECTION of Stock backup's and grab the nandroid backup applicable to your device. If you still have access to the SDcard on device you can place it UNZIPPED/UNPACKED into the backup folder for TWRP TWRP/Backups/serialnum/ just replace serialnum with the serial number of your device which you can find even on the box... or simply opening a command prompt in adb/fastboot folder and typing fastboot devices it'll then show you device number if device gets picked up. If you have an external SD card same thing, unzip downloaded nandroid backup into folder /storage/ext_sd/TWRP/BACKUPS/SERIALNUM/
From there you can just go ahead and restore the nandroid backup through TWRP.

Great, thanks for your replay.
In this case I will buy the phone

[Q] Bricked my phone, please help

Thankyou anyone for helping me.
I was trying to update my phone to the Maximus rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601543) from an AOKP JB ROM.
I succesfully followed the instructions to relock my phone, the flash the firmware, then unlock it again. Unfortunately I was foolish and didn't think to copy across the rom.zip before doing this. I tried restoring a Nandroid backup but was stuck in a bootloop. I also tried reflashing the previous AOKP Rom that I had on there. In this case it booted but I had no radio, no wifi, and importantly I couldn't mount over USB to copy across the new ROM. I'm guessing neither method works because of the new HBOOT?
I went to this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190 and it's clear that I have to flash an RUU through fastboot to get back to a working state. Unfortunately All the RUU links for JB Roms as listed on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376 seem to be dead so I can't download them. Similarly the links to older RUUs found here http://www.filefactory.com/f/e3e8b30e62a4a8aa/ all require a premium account because they are over the 500MB limit.
Can anyone tell me where I can please get an RUU to restore my phone to working order, or if there's another method available? Thankyou very much for your help.

Thankyou for the suggestion, but the problem with that method is that once again the ROM I want to flash has to be moved over to the virtal SD card of my phone. Since the ROM on it is currently not working I can't copy anything across to the SD card through the usual means. Is there a way I can copy it across using fastboot, as that is still working fine? I had a look at the fastboot help and there didn't seem to be any way. What I need is a ROM that can be flashed over fastboot, which I understand can be done with the stock RUUs?
I'm not panicking, I know that I will be able to get it back up and running, I just need a bit of help to get there.
Boot into bootloader and from there to recovery , mounts and storage - mount as USB ....and you have a working sd card to copy the rom.zip file to
Copy the rom.zip to the card and copy the boot.img from the rom.zip to the fastboot folder.
Flash the boot.img and flash the rom from recovery ..... Are u using cwm recovery 5.8.4.0

Thankyou so much for that suggestion. That would really help. I'm sorry, I don't know what I did, but now if I try to go into recovery the recovery flashes breifly on screen and then it resets. I tried reflashing it, using the All In One toolkit and using Fastboot.exe. I also tried flashing both the CWM recovery and the TWRP recovery, neither of them worked.
Thankyou for your help again, I'm sorry but recovery was working before, I think all I did was flash a boot.img but could that break recovery? I even tried going through the whole relock, flash firmware.zip, unlock, flash recovery procedure to see if that would work but it didn't.
Do a fastboot command
Put the phone in bootloader / fastboot USB menu
Fastboot erase cache
Check if you can enter recovery after that

Thankyou! That fixed the recovery issue. Once I could get into recovery I could copy across the ROM, flash it, flash boot.img (not that that was a problem) and my phone is now in woring order again.
Once again, many many thanks.
Glad you got it sorted !

[Q] Weird boot problem

Hello,
i got this weird problem when i tried to install clockworkmod from here: knowyourmobile(dot)com/smartphones/htc/onex/onexuserguides/1419609/how_to_root_your_htc_one_x.html
My bootloader is unlocked.I downloaded the file end ran the script. When everything finished my phone got stuck in the boot screen.I tried to erase chase or install stock kernel and recovery (using all ine one tool from this site)but nothing solved it.The only thing that i havent tried yet is to flash a boot.img because i cant find one (i got the phone from europe(paris) and i have the jelly bean update and i cant find the stock boot.img).Any solutions?
Thanks in advance!
If you flash a rom you can find the boot.img inside the rom.zip file ! Flash the boot.img with fastboot commands and do a wipe in recovery and install the rom.zip file from sd card !
And its not a weird boot problem, it's a common user mistake that is done by many....many people
Ow and a kernel = boot.img
Thanks for the reply,Is there another way?Because i dont want to use a custom ROM.I just rooted it in order to install some apps that require root.I said its weird because i flashed the kernel and the problem stays
Do you have a custom recovery at the moment ? And did u do a nandroid backup of the stock rom ?
I think it's weird that you first say that you flashed the kernel and then you say you can't find the boot.img.......
Well i didnt know that kernel=boot.img and i dont know if the all ine one xda program puts the right program for jb.I didnt backup anything,I have clockworkmod recovery
Do you know fastboot and the commands ?
Fastboot oem readcid
and
Fastboot getvar version-main
And post these results here !
I will try it.THis doesnt format anything,right>?
Nope....
You have to enter the recovery from the bootloader - choose hboot and then recovery....if it enters check which version you have (cwm 5.8.4.0 ?)
From there you can go to mounts & storage and then choose at the bottom mount as USB drive
Then you can at least copy everything from the sd to a safe place. I think that the internal data is going to be lost ! Like messages and apps .... Everything that is stored in the cloud is safe anyway
cid:htc__203 OKAY
version-main:3.14.401.27
You can get the ruu with the same number on www.htcruu.com and put the phone in bootloader/fastboot USB
Relock the bootloader with
Fastboot oem lock
And run the ruu.exe with admin rights ...it will put the phone back to 100% stock
This is the one you need
http://www.htcruu.com/download.php?...Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_298897_signed.exe
Nice! Now to reunlock the bootloader i will do the same things i did the first time or there is a command for that?
Yes if you still have the unlock token.bin file you can unlock the bootloader with a fastboot command, the correct command slipped my mind at the moment !
Otherwise you can to the htcdev site again and unlock it there
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

[Q] help a noob

Hi all,
Apologies i have read numerous threads and have tried to look at what i can but im gettign rather confused, any help would be great!
After 6 months have had the time to root my htc one x after allot of reading...
I successfully did this with the help of Hasoon2000's HTC ONE X All in one kit.I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP 2.4.1.0
After i did this i decided to make a backup in TWRP and then try to install a custom ROM, since rooting the HTC One X was pretty simple...
So i downloaded the fastboot files to my desktop, extracted the 4 files in a subfolder, with the boot.img of VIPER, then i mounted my phone to the laptop and stored the VIPER.zip to the root of the SDCard, i then went into Recovery, wiped the cache, etc and went to install and chose the VIPER.zip and it went through the install.
I managed to install VIPER but upon reboot it just showed the HTC logo (white screen) with a snake slithering across the bottom and then hangs there forever..
I decided to go back and restore to the standard ROM but upon checking i dont have any backup??!! Im not sure if i deleted it by accident???
I can boot back into recovery and fastboot but i cant load any ROMS, i have tried numerous, some fail and the others just hang upon boot up...
How do i get my phone working?!!! Does anyone have any advice as to what im doing wrong please or what my options are????
I have looked at going back to stock ROM by checking what my RUU is and CID is but i cant find my version....
C:\Users\310058494\Desktop\flash\Fastboot>fastboot getvar version-main

hi there, yes i flashed it, i did the following:
I wiped pretty much everything.
Pressed install. Went to the folder where the ROM i downloaded, is located in. Selected the ROM and slide the screen to flash it.
After it flashed, i pressed the back button. Pressed Reboot and Reboot into bootloader. Then opened the ROM i downloaded from my computer and extracted boot.ig it to my computer. Opened hansoons toolkit and pressed Flash a Kernel. Locate the boot.img and flashed it.
Then rebooted, just tried again and the phone has again just hung upon white HTC logo and a snake i the bottom right hand corner...
So the kernel is flashed ! Try this now
Make a full wipe in the recovery again. Wipe all caches, dalvik caches, system, data, android secure......all except external storage !
UNHOOK THE USB CABLE !
install the rom again
Wait a min you are on one of the low hboot versions.
stand by for guide

do i need to flash boot.img after installing viperx3.4.0?
To update your hboot, do this:
1. DL this firmware package http://goo.gl/4X9YI
2. Put it to your fastboot folder (the folder with fastboot.exe etc. etc.) and rename the file "firmware" if it already isn't named so.
3. Hold SHIFT and RIGHT click anywhere in the folder. Select "open command window here"
4. Type the following stuff
fastboot oem lock (this will lock your bootloader so that you know)
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash firmware.zip (do several times if fails)
Unlock the bootloader using the toolkit
Flash a recovery using the toolkit
Then re-do everything you already did (also boot.img)
i did steps 1-4 but it failed on the fastboot flash firmware, it said cannot determine image filename firmware.
Do you mind if I do it remotely? Download an application called TeamViewer. When you're ready, send me you ID and password via PM.
We can chat as well.

[Q] completely unrootable

i tried to root my phone (unsuccessfully) and now i cant even factory reset it. if i try it loads onto the recovery screen where the touch screen is unresponsive (my reason for not completing the root, as well as not detecting my phone for twrp flashing). is my phone now "bricked" on stock? UNROOTABLE
I presume your bootloader is unlocked? Are you able to boot into your ROM or not?
If you want to just bring your phone back up and running, you will need to run a RUU or restore a nandroid backup:
So post the result of the following:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main

thanks again vin4yak..my phone works perfectly as htc wants it to .. ive unlocked bootloader.. pushed super su.zip.. reboot into bootloader.
cannot push twrp as it says device not found. if i go into recovery the touch screen is unresponsive.. could this be due to missing this step or should it be working?

The latest TWRP doesn't work on bases greater than 3.14... So I recommend flashing CWM and then proceeding with the rooting process!

To flash a new recovery you have to put the recovery img file in your fastboot folder and then flash it via opening cmd in fastboot folder and phone in fastboot mode... and then :

fastboot erase cache

[Q] Desire HD, I bought it with a problem

Hello, I'm from Bulgaria, I bought a Desire HD that was with relocked bootloader. I unlocked the bootloader with htcdev.com. Now it is unlock. The phone not load any ROM, can,'t make recovery from bootloader, can't make factory reset from bootloader. I tried to flash several stock ROMs before and after unlocking, but getting a different errors. Attempted ROMs are with the same RADIO. I Tried this-
just copy the rom.zip from temp folder of your user name on pc while running that RUU at the next of second step..i mean while you double click of the RUU then you the first prompt that you must thick "Understand blah blah blah.." then click next..you must hold setup at this step..and tried search the rom.zip in your temp folder of your pc and copied to another folder..then rename it to PD98IMG.zip and put in to the root of your sd card..then boot the phone to bootloader mode..wait until bootloader reading and checking the PD98IMG.zip file..then ask you to confirm if you wanna flash it.. but without success. Stay on the white screen with grenn HTC logo when is turned on, and when I tried to make recovery or factory reset. When the stock ROM start to install (before give me a error ) the screen stay on grey HTC logo on Black screen. Can anyone help me? I attached a picture of Bootloader-

Uhh, have you actually installed recovery - if you haven't well that's why.
Go here: http://www.4ext.net/ddl/ace/recovery.zip
Extract the files
Copy recovery img to your adb.exe folder (make sure fastboot.exe is there)
Turn on your phone into fastboot mode
CD to that directory and type in "fastboot devices"
Confirm it says your serial
Then type in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Now you have recovery (it means you can flash roms and kernels and mods and anything flashable apart from radios and firmwares)
I did this correctly, everything is OK, but now what? I tried to install stock ROM, but with no result. Here is a pictures of instalation-
now select recovery, and install ROM there

don't install stock rom or RUU again..
just installing custom rom (you can search and choice a custom rom in "Desire HD Android Development") and installing the rom.zip file from 4ext recovery (install zip from sd card)..don't forget to flashing boot.img too (flashing under FASTBOOT mode with fastboot command "fastboot flash boot boot.img").. that the boot.img are extracted from the rom.zip file that you had already installed..
hope this can help..

did you already installing 4ext recovery..?, if so..to go that recovery then you just need select Recovery from your bootloader menu..then you can installing custom rom from there..
just copied your custom rom file to the root of your sd card..this mean just placed inside your sdcard..don't placed inside any folder..then after that you can installing that rom from 4ext recovery
hope this can help..
I made this from second post, but can't see any difference in phone or bootloader. When I pushed recovery from original bootmenu, came white screen with green HTC logo with one vibration end nothing happend
Just repeat all the step in second post...just this time you show me the out put from cmd...after you typing command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Thank you ! Now the bootloader is unlocked, and I did that from the second post with already unlocked bootloader. Still nothing can I do.
just tried installing another custom recovery...just try download it TWRP recovery from here.. copied to your adb.exe and fastboot.exe folder and flashing it through FASTBOOT mode with command .. "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-ace.img"
hope this time your phone will had a custom recovery installed
