does the custom boot requires me to unlock my boot loader?

i want to download custom boot so i should unlock my bootloader first? cuz in the first place i said i should unlock but then sm 1 told me its ok you shouldnt unlock the bootloader

If you mean the bootanimation, you won't need to unlock the bootloader, look at how some custom Roms with custom bootanimation are structured and try to make a flashable zip with the one you want.

Seems like he means he wants a custom ROM.
Some ROMs require a new kernel, so the bootloader needs to be locked.
Other ROMs can be flashed using a Nandroid restore in CWM that others have created. This method does not require an unlock

Qick noob root question

Hello,
I am running stock one x rom. There is only thing that I don't get. If i root it does it mean that stock rom will become rooted or I need to flash custom rom after a root?

when you root your stock rom is rooted. Then you can use custom one if you want.

Hello, as far as im aware you can root the stock rom using the super user but you need to have it unlocked first. I just got my new phone and followed the guide from HTC Dev down in the link below and i was up and running in an hour.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Install a custom recovery
3. Make backup through recovery
4. Root using superuser but I installed ARHD which is rooted already so therefor I didnt need to.
If you follow the guides on here you really cant go wrong just make sure you get things in the right order and dont attempt without knowing each step as it took me 4 days to persuade myself I had everything right plus just ask on here and someone will keep you on the right track.

You really want to think about putting an AOSP based ROM on your phone, they're much faster

What people don't realize is that "rooting" is just putting the su binary in the bin folder. That's it. Su is a standard Linux app that supersedes the permissions level on systems - SuperUser. When someone says that they have a rooted phone all they mean is that they have su in the /bin folder and usually an .apk (SuperSu) to manage the which apps have access to is (otherwise you'd have to su open app.apk in terminal).
That said, when some mentions that they "rooted" their phone typically they mean they unlocked their bootloader or used an exploit to get around the locked bootloader. And even then unlocking the bootloader lets you to write to system partitions (pre-Android boot of course, since the files are still read only by Android).
The easiest method is to unlock via HTCDev, flash CWM with fastboot, then flash either the supersu or superuser zips.
Basically you can have a rooted stock ROM, rooted custom ROM, or even a unrooted custom ROM. To unroot, just deleted the SuperSu.apk from /system/app and su from /bin (some systems make a symlink to /xbin so look there too).

Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with rooting.
I have a rooted transformer prime and my bootloader is intact.
Rooting is rom specific. What rooting does is giving you administrative access to system files on your rom whether it's stock or custom and uses the su binary to control access to root files.
Unlocking the bootloader gives you the ability to do things before the system boots. These things are usually running recovery software, flashing roms, or doing backup.
Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are two separate things.
Having said that, i have to make it clear that most rooting methods on forums do unlock the bootloader and install recovery code on the phone in addition to rooting. So if u want to keep ur phone covered under warranty i suggest you look for a root method that doesn't unlock the bootloader or install any recovery.

The only way to root this phone is by flashing Superuser, hence the need for ClockworkMod Recovery and an unlocked boot loader.

I have never used the one x. What u said might be true. But it's hard to believe that the only way to root an android device is only by unlocking the bootloader. There must be another way.

I believe people are working on it but that's the only way at the moment to my knowledge, crappy HTC forcing you to unlock your bootloader just to root, whatever next... Voiding your warranty at the same time? Oh wait....

[Q] [S] Future OTA if I root with locked bootloader?

Hi all,
Just got my Xperia S and really love the phone with fantastic design and awesome screen. I really intend to gain root access for my phone to troubleshoot the battery drain issue further (and using some app for better control over the setting). Here's a few queries I have (and some partially answered by some of my searches on the forum):
Will I get any OTA or official firmware update shall I just root my phone with locked bootloader? (I won't mess with custom recovery or ROM)
I suppose I could still claim my warranty. But is there anyway to remove any traces completely to prevent them from finding out? Just removing the superuser app?
If in the future I would like to have access to custom recovery so that I could flash ROM, I suppose I must unlock the bootloader right? (at least until someone gets a workaround for locked bootloader)
The tool I will use for rooting is by Bin4ry. I am on the latest ICS firmware.

Yes you'll definitely get official update
To remove trace completely just flash an official ROM via flashtool (official fw can be obtained at dev section)
No can install some stock based Custom Rom and CWM in locked bootloader
Eg : XTX,dualcore,Xcream,etc
What you can't do is flash a kernel. You'll need to flash a kernel to install Cyanogen Mod or Paranoid based rom

Hmm, I guess I could get official update, just worry that I would lose root during the update. I think I could still try to retain my root using some app right? (LOL, I am a bit outdated about all these stuff - was using a HTC Desire where 2.3 is the best we could go)
I am observing that my screen is a bit yellowish throughout, perhaps I will send in for a warranty before I do anything.

Custom ROM without root

Hi All,
Had my HTC One M8 for ages now and love it.. previously with all my Samsung devices I have gone down the Root and ROM route but I how use SkyGo and Barclays Bank app alot and these don't work with Root.
Is there a way of installing a Custom ROM without having Root? Basically I want to get rid of all the bloatware (Such as the HTC versions of Google apps) but still want to be able to use SkyGo and Barclays.
I heavily use Google apps, My current set up is stock ROM with Google Now launcher.

hai, Try unlocking the bootloader with HTCDev, Then flash twrp via fastboot and flash a sense based rom and once you get the rom booted go to supersu - Settings then scroll down and click Full unroot and all should be good

That's a great suggestion. Never would have thought of that myself.
But OP, please make sure that you flash a stock based Sense ROM.
A Sense based ROM with mods included, such as ViperOne, will not give you much without root privileges.
I recommend MaximusHD.

Hi everyone, I have a bit of experience with flashing roms to android phones from the past and I'm coming from an LG G3 that has Lineage OS installed on it.
What I'm looking to do is to get Lineage installed on my HTC 10, I picked it up the other day and it came shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat installed. I haven't got a clue what to do first just in case anything goes wrong.
So my questions are:
How do I unlock the bootloader and is there anything I need to do first? (What is S-Off?)
Can I flash TWRP without rooting the device to just nandroid backup?
How do I go from Stock rom to LineageOS via flashing? Is it just as simple as wiping system etc and flashing in twrp?

I'd urge you to read a lot more before jumping into this because your questions suggest you're really not aware of what you're doing. It helps to comprehend what each of these terms and actions means before you pull the trigger.

I know my fair share of android modifications and have done so in the past. It's just this is the most ive ever spent on a phone and I dont want to mess it up firstly. I've even compiled roms of my own in the past as you can see from my signature.

So, it's oem unlock, twrp, backup, and flash away? Reading up on S-off, it only seems useful for those that are doing really specific modding. I just want the ability to either root or flash custom roms so the bootloader unlock should do me fine right?

Backup your files (pictures, music etc) first, bootloader unlocking wipes your device

Yes, but if you want to flash a custom ROM not supported by your current firmware version, S-off will be necessary.

How do I know if a rom doesn't support my firmware version? Is that like flashing a CDMA ROM to a GSM phone (that level of difference) ?
Or is it like converting carrier firmware to stock HTC firmware?

Just check in the thread for the rom you want, installation requirements are usually listed there.
