Hello all,
I've been using LG Optimus G E975 for a year now. :highfive:
I bought the phone for the sole reason that it was the world's first first quad-core phone with in-built LTE connectivity.
But here in the Indian version, the phone only supports HSPA and a maximum DL speed of 42 Mbps. :crying:
I've read on Nexus 4 forums on how they have managed to unlock the LTE connectivity on the LG Nexus 4 E960.
Since the two phones have exact same hardware, is it possible to do the same on the E975?
Also, is there any custom ROM out there which supports LTE Connectivity for the LG E975?
Please let me know if there is a feasible solution, as I'm not that good at developer level stuff like 'build.prop'.. :crying:
No... LTE is market Dependent and it won't wrk....

Alright so the point of this thread is to help people with their LG Optimus G for Rogers Wireless in Canada, also known simply as E971
Here are the official specs:
from LG:
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/cell-phones/lg-LGE971-optimus-g
from Rogers:
http://www.rogers.com/web/link/wire...normal&productId_Detailed=OPTIMUSGBLK&N=52+11
The main difference from this phone and the E973 version is the 700/2600mhz LTE frequency for Rogers as opposed to 700/1700 for Bell/Telus/Sasktel
The 2600MHz LTE spectrum (2x20MHz band) is the frequency used for LTE that has the most bandwidth available making it the fastest LTE band. Typical download speeds experienced will range from 12 Mbps up to 40Mbps. -from the Roger's site
This means that LTE will not work with other LTE such as BELL or TELUS unless they roll out a 700/2600mhz network, Fido piggy backs on Rogers and *should* work
Here are some of the more important threads to have your phone rooted and have a unlocked bootloader, up to know i do not know of any custom roms available for the E971
Give these guys your thanks and donate if you can
You'll have to root first then unlock the bootloader
Root:
Bin4ry's Root MANY ANDROID
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
(confirmed working on E97120D)
unlocked bootloader:
Team Codefire's Project FreeGee
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007961
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee (Donate)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee_free (Free)
If you want to keep your root and unlocked Bootloader do not update to the latest OTA (E97110E_00), you will lose root permanatly and Bin4ry's methode will not work anymore the previous version is linked at the 2nd post (E97110D_00)
more info here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053880
to disable the OTA app:
"Disable" via Settings > Apps > All > Software Update > Tap Disable.
or freeze with Titanium Backup "Software Update 3.1.0"
Removing carrierware (only do if you have v0.5+ of FreeGee and Root or else you'll get a the security error bootloop)
You'll also receive the Security error if you tinker with the Google Apps that come with this phone (ex, google movies, google books, etc)
remove or delete the .apk , freezing with Titanium works as well

This makes me even MORE glad I bought an E970 instead of the E971. The Rogers phone doesn't even support both THEIR OWN FREQUENCIES, because the AWS band would mean the phone could easily be used on Telus or Bell. So the E971 doesn't actually get better LTE coverage than Galaxy S2s or iPhone5s by offering both bands Rogers supports.
The E971 supports 2600 and 700, 700 being the main frequency for AT&T in the US which is shared with the E970 but not supported by ANY carrier in Canada until after the 700mhz spectrum auction which isn't for another YEAR. But with an E970 on Rogers I still get the AWS band , and it is ALSO usable on Bell or Telus!
So overall, the AT&T phone gives just as good coverage out of the box, and better options for changing carriers and roaming than either regular Canadian model.
**** you, Rogers.
Thank you! This is very helpful!

With all due respect, unless you plan on changing carriers, then the E971 does in fact have the fastest up/down speeds. 2600 is basically empty right now, like driving a Ferrari down an empty highway. Not many people buy a phone knowing they'll be switching carriers - I certainly don't.
On a separate note, anyone else get a little happy tingle inside everytime the LTE icon comes on?

as far as i know the optimus g specs from LG/Rogers say the phone uses 700/2600 bands, im sure rogers has 700/1700 AWS deployed as well for other lte capable phones,
well that would be my best guess
From what I've read Rogers has the standard AWS frequency LTE, but is also rolling out an additional 2600MHz network in addition to AWS, providing a nice empty spectrum and supposedly better coverage in rural areas. This is supposed to be in partnership with Bell, but Bell is apparently not supporting the frequency at this time. This lead to my issues with Bell LTE linked in the OP.
In theory, if you have 2600MHz coverage, you should be able to get better throughput due to the empty spectrum, but in practice (from my limited testing) you get generally the same speeds as any other Rogers LTE phone (such as the iPhone, which is not using 2600MHz).
Has anyone tried the Base 0.5 Rom over in the at&t optimus G forum. Just wondering if it would work for the E91.
If you have what are your results?

Yeah, I need to make my searching skills better. I did not know that there is A "Super One-Click Root" for ICS/JB. I believe in 2.2 and 2.3 days, there is one like this piece of rooting method but the development stopped after 2.3 for ICS has a very different system. Now some genius came up with this one....simply awesome!
EDIT: and it is a good idea to push "SuperSU" rather than the traditional Superuser app. It works better on Android devices with a custom UI on it. In other notes, I unlocked the bootloader (i think) but I don't see any indications on boot screen whatsoever that indicates that the device is unlocked. Maybe I failed on the boot loader unlock...

hi everyone,
i would like to know if the LTE frequency of 1800mhz in LG G PRO E988(Philippines) can be change to LTE 2100mhz? because the ISP(Smart) here in my country only gives the frequency of 2100mhz for their prepaid LTE service... and this phone of mine has WCDMA only for the 2100mhz and only 1800mhz and 2600mhz for its LTE as per its box says...
i have read somewhere that this frequency band is encoded to the hardware(i dont know if its true) but is there a way to change it? like changing to custom rom, kernel, hacking, etc....
i really need to have a frequency of 2100mhz in LTE in this LG G PRO android of mine to support the prepaid LTE from my ISP ...
experts here, please need badly your helps guys...

probably that is not an e988 version.
lg g pro has several variants as we know...
the e988 here has no 2100mhz for the LTE ---> http://m.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_g_pro_e985-5254.php
and also as i mentioned above, no 2100mhz also for LTE in its box, only 1800mhz freq.

I don't know how firstpost reached that conclusion. Not any literature on the net about e988 has ever mentioned LTE being present, hidden or otherwise... For example, this,

Theres NO changing of bands on this phone... Whats on it, is whats on it.
Bro, unfortunately LTE Band is hardware-variant-dependent and cannot be changed through software. The E988 variant only works on Globe LTE which is 1800mhz (B3), unfortunately you have to subscribe to 1 of their expensive postpaid plans to use LTE. I myself have a SMART prepaid LTE sim, and so I bought an AT&T E980 which has a 2100mhz LTE frequency, but what I failed to realize is E980 uses Band 4. SMART LTE only works on 2100mhz Band 1, so I am unable to use Smart LTE on E980 also. The only G Pro variant capable for Smart LTE is the korean F240L.
@ hyel
thanks. that's sad to know...
@ jrtancinco
thank you for the in-dept information bro. yes, i heard i can connect to Smart LTE thru their postpaid plan using my E988. Kinda confusing why there is so called Band 1, thought 2100mhz is enough.. I prefer the Smart due to Globe signal here in my place sucks big time. might as well buy a separate pocket LTE wifi, and keep this fast and amazing LG G PRO
------------------
*** UPDATE - i have tested three units of high end android phones (Samsung S4, LG G PRO, & Samsung Note 3) using postpaid LTE SIM in an unlimited Smart LTE Plan inside one location, versus a dedicated LTE Pocket Wifi; Result is, all the three high-end handsets have far lower speeds of the LTE compared to the LTE Pocket Wifi had delivered. Seems the LTE pocket wifi device has the dedicated hardware for more power and reach compared to a LTE built-in capability of a phone.
I now can conclude that its better to use a 'dedicated' LTE pocket wifi device than the built-in LTE of a smartphone handset if you want better LTE speed throughput.

LTE not WOrking on 1800mhz on My E988 Optimus
Hi there I am using LG Optimus G Pro E988, but I there is no LTE on it where my carrier support E988 on 1800mhz. Can anyone help me on this?
Hi there,
I hope that I'm posting on the right place and sorry for my bad english.
I've searched everywhere on the web for infos about the sprint lg g2 ls980 lte limitations, and there are quite a lot of suggestions that the limitation is hardware level.
Today I found a guy that sells ls980 on ebay and he guaranties that the llimitation is sofware based and that the ls980 that he sells is open to 5 lte bands. He told me that you just need to instruct the modem to communicate on those frequencies.
Is this possible, a scam, something new.??...
Please do comment about this subject, all comments are wellcome.
I can't post the link for the ls980 on sale, but the sale title on ebay is :
LG G2 32GB Unlocked Worldwide & Rooted Smartphone Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
The seller is : droid_toy
For info, I have an ls980, allready flashed the same rom the guy uses but no 4g on band 7 with my sim card, and he states that the band 7 works on hes ls980.
Thank you,
I'm sure its possible maybee even more but good luck on the radio thats carrier based

I don't really know how the guy has done it...
Allready tryed, with an d801 from tmob, to flash it with an d802 rom, then flash an d801 kernel and no other ltes other then the original ones. The weird thing is that if then I try to flash just the radio over all this it will brick, what I find weird since the rom is allready a d802 rom and it is just the boot that is from a d801. (Flashing boot and radio changes commun things?)
Anyway, back to subject, if this method fails then on ls980 it also fails...
How it is possible to have other radios on ls980 and he acctually accepts then well?
Also the d801 when unlocked by code doesn't unlock other lte bands, so for ls980 it is not that either... I haven't tryed yeat, but I belive that with an d802 base rom on ls980 we gain access to same dial codes then d802, so it turns out to be possible to unlock the phone by code. Am I correct?
How can it possibly be done, can you point me some directions on how to try to unlock the lte bands?
Hi there,
No suggestions, no ideas, anyone?
Is it possible that the lte band permission are guiven by the kernel?
it is not a pentaband phone and it is a hardware limitation so buyer beware and don't get ripped off

Hi there,
Sorry to bother you again, but, are you 100% sure?
According to this site http://pdadb.net/ both ls980 and d802 models share the exact same processor, and this processor has the modem integrated, so, booth models should have the same capabilities.
What am I missing? Is there any other chip associated with the modem and responsable for the bands comunication?
Thanks in advance,

its not the chipset that is the problem it is the actual physical antennas you can have the same chipset in all models but the actual antennas are different making it not possible to pick up the other signals. Thats what makes it a hardware issue
Also I can not find the seller on ebay

For info, I'll continue to report my experiences.
As I think I've understood on the web, the 4g antenna is a part of the flex,/micro/charger piece.
As I have a few spare parts, I tryed to use a d802 motherboard with a flex cable I had from an ls980, to try and see if I would loose my band 7 4g on the d802.
Didn't worked at all, the d802 couldn't detect a sim card with that combination, whitch I find a bit weird as result since the sim is connected to the noard...
Next step, I'm waiting for some parts to try a combo ls980 board flashed with a rayglobe firmware + d802 flex cable (4g antenna).
I don't have much hope but, hey, we never know...

Hi there,
My country cell provider, recently upgraded their connection to LTE. Their LTE frequency are said to be running on 900 Mhz Frequency
I bought my LG G3 in korea, so obviously my LG G3 is a korean version. LG G3 Cat.6 or the model is F460
I've changed my sim card to LTE sim, and my mobile connection are set to LTE preferred. However till these days still I haven't seen any 4G or LTE sign on my connection. I know not all the areas are covered, however even though I'm in the area where it's already LTE, I don't seems to getting the signal. I don't know is it because my mobile doesn't support the frequency here or other reasons maybe to explain it?
I'm having a hard time looking at the information if LG G3 F460 actually support LTE at 900mhz frequency?
It's running smoothly on a 3G currently.
FYI : It always shows 3G even though its actually running on 3.5G. However my friend said its just the display, while actually its already running the 3.5G Connection. I don't know if its the case with the 4G as well
I can't post the link to the specs here., because I still have post under 10. Maybe anyone can help me?
Thanks before
Mostly Network operator tell u if you 4G phone is compatible with their frequency or not thats the authentic way to know.

Im just trying to help and apologize if you have already done this but i believe Rogers uses a slightly different apn setting for lte. I havent been with the carrier for over a year now so make sure you got the right settings! If it isnt that then im guessing you are referring to the difference in cellular bands. I do know that USA carriers use a different lte band than us canadians and that for the note 3 devices there was a way to unlock the qualcom chip to enable it but i have not seen such things for the g3 as of yet.
