Out of curiosity, did anyone manage to get their HOX S-Off'd with Firewater method?
And which HBOOT version do you need to have in order to perform that task?
Thanks

Seriously...! This has been asked countless times.. Firewater S-OFF is only for Qualcomm based devices. The only method to S-OFF to date is the HTC official way...!
This thread was going downhill fast. Question asked and answered so thread closed.

I received my warranty replacement of the HTC One verizon version. I came with 4.10.605.3, with hboot 1.57. I have tried towelroot, sunshine, weaksauce, with not being able to root, unlock, and s-off. I there another method to unlock, s-off, and root? any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to tell you that versions past 3.11.605.1 can't be S-0ffed by publicly available methods.
With any luck, someone will release something to help out hboot 1.57 people just before the
next big HTC/Verizon release happens.
I read somewhere that rumrunner was gonna release an update so we can s-off hboot 1.57 with sense 6. Can someone please confirm this? If it is confirmed, when will they release it?
hboot 1.57
ughhh. Just tried the newest verson of Sunshine to S-0ff my HTC One M7.
It says "Incompatible ROM" then stops.
My shirt is stained with tears as I type this...
In the same boat...
I'm in the same boat.....Got a replacement to fix the purple camera issue, now I can't root! Tried all the various ways that I used on my previous 2 HTC Ones. Hoping the devs come up with a solution, tho I'm guessing we'll have to wait until Android L is pushed out....
Really missing double tap to wake the most...
Been searching everywhere.
Keep getting pointed to Revolutionary method, which doesn't work for me.
I'm not a beginner, want to manually flash a patched HBOOT to gain S-Off, then manually flash a Custom Recovery.
Any feedback would be appreciated

I don't understand what you're asking for. You can't install a patched HBOOT unless you're S-OFF. The only S-OFF method for HBOOT 2.16 is Revolutionary. Why doesn't it work for you?

I think I'm almost going to call it quits, Revolutionary doesn't detect my phone, maybe if I knew more about how Revolutionary works I could gain S-off.
Does Revolutionary generate a token that has to be submitted via fastboot? I notice the tutorials have the phone rebooting into fastboot mode

Have you installed the proper drivers for your device?

Revolutionary doesn't generate a token like HTC Dev does. As Captain Throwback has stated, make sure you have the proper drivers in place. Easiest way to do this is install HTC Sync, then uninstall it so Revolutionary will work.
Hi, I know that this is a very basic thread and it has been answered before, but I couldn't find a procedure that addresses the 3.28.401.7 software. Can someone please explain to me how to get root access on HTC m8 kitkat (4.4.4 sense 6) software 3.28.401.7 ? Thanks alot
The easy way would probably be to just use Sunshine app. It costs $25 but will do both things for you(and unlock your bootloader too I believe). The app will tell you if it can work or not before you pay for it as well.
Otherwise I would think you could unlock bootloader through htcdev, then flash twrp recovery, which will itself root your phone as part of its install process. You would still need sunshine to s-off though I'm fairly certain.

Sunshine is the only way to s-off.
Rooting is explained above perfectly. ?
I dont think sunshine will root the phone, as I have tried doing sunshine unrooted on 3.28 and it says I have to be rooted in order to actually try the app to see if it can s-off it. I havent rooted my phone and tried sunshine after that, but as i understand it can s-off even the new 3.28 base.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Sunshine is for S-Off, not to root the phone.
Have you tried VomerGuides?

Rooting, after unlocking the bootloader is simple, but OP asked about s-off also. ?
Hello.
So I have a One M8 with a 3.19 HBOOT and I want to S-OFF this device. Firewater seems to be broken on this firmware and I'm not paying $25 for Sunshine. So my question is, is it possible for me to flash an older version of HBOOT onto the device? The device is an unlocked European one (both carrier and bootloader unlocked) with HTC_032 CID running CyanogenMod 12, but I can go back to stock if I need to. Thanks.

Oh, that sucks. Is it still possible to downgrade HBOOT? I've heard that Sunshine doesn't work on all 3.xx devices right now.

not without s-off if you run sunshine, it will do some checks and let you know if it will work or not before you have to purchase, so, try and run it and see what happens. for $25.00 it is worth doing

No. You cannot "downgrade" hboot with s-on.
If you could, then everyone would be doing it (that is stuck with s-on) and there wouldn't really be an "issue" with 3.x devices.
As previously mentioned, try sunshine and see if your device is supported (you won't be charged if not).
Hey Guys,
On Cyanogen's website it is written that I should have S-OFF on my M8 in order to install their ROM, so it really necessary to have S-OFF?Did any of you guys try to flash one of their Roms having S-OFF?
I can't turn S-OFF because I can't download the firewater exploit file..
Thanks in regards.
You shouldn't need to be S-off just to install an alternate ROM. You do need to have an unlocked bootloader, which Sunshine does as part of its S-off task. However, you can, in many cases, get a bootloader unlock token directly from HTCdev.
Also, Firewater no longer works. Even if you could find the APK, the server it uses is gone. The only way to S-off is Sunshine, which is a paid service from the same developers.

Sunshine is the only way to s-off. Firewater was discontinued in Dec 2014.
You don't need s-off to flash CM. But you will need the current hboot (3.19). Plenty of ways to update hboot and other firmware with s-on.
