Unread email counter doesnt work with adw launcher. I have tried adw notifier but it only helps on gmail and the other. Its only showing the icon without the counter. I'm using the stock email app and the counter shows just fine in touchwiz. Any know how I can fix this?
Thanks

I have the same problem with Galaxy Tab
Hi,
Anybody figured out how to get the email counter with Adw launcher? I was getting this counter correctly with default Samsung Launcher but not with ADW.
Thanks
Raju
Searching ADW launcher you will find many people with the same complaint. IT just doesnt support it. I have seen reason ranging from they didnt build it that way too Android does not have an open DB connection for it.
No matter what the reason it sucks and the people using the "Stock" apps are screwed unless you get K-9 or us the gmail app itself (which I dont particularly like).
I have found that if you buy tasker you can make build a workaround with that and minimalistic text. But I did not like the way it did it. and it didnt give me a unread count option :\
Wish I could be more help
Thanks,
SoBBie
PS I use a droid incredible.
As per title, is there an unread counter for sms/calls/gmail (which works on gmail)?
thanks

as written in the comments, this is not working for gmail since update to 2.3.3
AFAIK there is no working unread counter since GMail changed their permissions for the app.

that's the problem!!!!! :-(
and wonder why google with ics has not included this by design...
Missed It!.
And for the GMail problem, try this workaround.

It's a livewallpaper but it does work with all the notifications you ask about with Android 4.x .. the wife messed with it for a while. I was fine with the missed stuff being in the pull down so I never downloaded it. She likes/liked it well enough .. don't know if she's still using it.
This is one of Android's most frustrating things: not having a uniform on-icon notification system. Widgets are fine, but I really don't need yet another widget taking up space, when I already have the icon on the desktop.
I hate the way the notification bar is implemented. It's too small, too ugly and it get's so cluttered that it is hard to tell at a quick glance what the notifications are. Frankly, the iOS notifications bar implementation is way better visually (if you agree, check out the app iPhone Notifications in the Market).
On-icon notifications work randomly. Even the stock launcher does not show on-icon notifications for the stock Email app (not GMail). There is not notification for Google Voice (why, is beyond me). The whole scheme is a mess.
I have kind of been able to make things work with ADW Notifier in Chuck Noritz Mode, but ADW Notifier does not seem to be supported much nowadays, so the service FCs multiple times a day.
I wish that someone would bring in good implementation of on-icons notifications, or that Google redesigns the whole notification scheme and streamlines it.

Looking for the same thing, tried NOVA launcher but they left our that most important feature. To me that is #1 most wanted thing in a launcher, before all else.

If you want it on your lock screen then use WidgetLocker with ADW Notifier. If you want it on your home screen or on your dock then use ADW EX with ADW Notifier.

Yeah, ADW Notifier is pretty much the only thing that sort of works, but as I said above, it FCs constantly and it is inconsistent. Go Launcher also has a notifier, but it works with a much more limited number of apps (you can't get notifications for Google Voice or the stock Email app, for instance).
So far, I have not been able to find a reliable on-icon notifier for Android.

I can't speak to your experience, but I have used ADW EX and Notifier since I got my Nexus and haven't had any FC's or problems with it. That is when applying it to Gmail, the stock messenging app, and the Phone app since that's what the OP inquired about. None of these require the use of Chuck Norris mode, and at least for me none have failed yet. My main reason for switching was the big **** LauncherPro took on ICS, and have been happy with the results since.
ADW Notifier done FC only for some particular aplication not for sms, Gmail, K9, missed call, but for for some sms aplication like go sms and other, a lot sms app in fact adw notifier works until the next reboot
It's the reason why i stopped using it, Missed it is good, personaliy now i use Executive assistant for sms, missed call and K9, Gmail.
There is a free version , try and see.

Well, as I mentioned above, many of us use Google Voice for voicemail (instead of what's offered by the service provider). GV requires Chuck Noritz Mode, and it works most of the time, although it often shows "?" instead of the number of vm messages.
Many of us also use email accounts which are not GMail -- the stock Email app also requires Chuck Noritz Mode.
ADW Notifier has not been updated in a long time, I hope the next update is soon and it fixes some of these issues.
In fairness, it is not really ADW's fault. It sounds like the Android notification system is a complete mess, with no clear standards for developers to follow.
It is simply amazing that even two of the main Google apps, Google Voice and Email, cannot handle notifications properly, like Phone or Messenger. Very sloppy.
I've searched this and other forums but have not been able to find a satisfactory answer as of yet. I'd like to know whether or not it's possible to put a widget in the dock bar. I am rooted, running the latest AOKP ROM and Nova Launcher. What I wanted to do was to use the widget Unread SMS, and replace my messaging icon with it so I get the unread messages # ala iPhone, but alas, I don't think it's possible to put a widget in the dock bar. Anyone?
Much thanks!
No, it is not possible.

If I read that right, you want to know how many Unread SMS you have through the same icon that will, if clicked, launch the SMS app, yes?
If so, you could try using Go Launcher EX with the Notifications add-on. It gives you unread SMS count, missed calls, and unread emails too, I believe.
Search for "Go Launcher EX Notification" - this is the add-on.
Thanks guys. I actually did use Go Launcher EX with Notification on a previous device, however since moving on to the GNEX I am loving Nova Launcher. I'm not sure I want to go back to GO just for this one feature. Perhaps.... I don't know how GO functions on the GNEX, but on my old Galaxy II it was a bit of a battery hog.
Well whaddaya know... I searched Google for "Nova Launcher unread SMS count" and got a link to XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21493784#post21493784
Enjoy!
Edit: Make sure you read Post 4 AND 5 - 5 is of importance.

Awesome find!!! I didn't think ADW Notifier would work as a stand-alone app any more than GO Notification doesn't work without GO Launcher EX installed. You 'da man!! Thanks for this find. Installed, turned on Accessibility, tested, and working!
My first satisfied customer!!
You're welcome. I'm happy I could help.
I'm using nova launcher, need a little help here, i turn on the accessibility, select sms apps and phone apps, but just cant get it work, any hints?
Hey Guys
Just wanted to know is there anyway to get the little bubble on top of the Gmail app? Similar to the Email app, it has a number displayed above it which tells you how many emails you have before going into the app, but Gmail lacks that for some reason.
Any ideas?
i'm using Tesla Unread, but it requires Nova Launcher or WidgetLocker.

Anyone have any issues with Nova? I tried installing it but every time I clicked on my gmail widget, the phone would revert back to touchwiz.
Is there anything more to it then search and install?
Hi, I got a problem with my Redmi phone.
I set up Nova Launcher and I am using several widgets. Some of them work without any problems, but Google Keep Widget and Event Flow Calendar widget gets deleted after one or two days. So basically, every second day, I need to set up it again. That's annoying.
Does anybody know this issue and has a solution? Should I go back to the standard launcher?
Cheers,
Sven
I've got the same issue -- was using Nova - using Evie now, and have the same issue...
Well, good to know. But I don't understand why this is happening. Makes no sense to me. Did you try with the original / standard launcher?

Rights problem, add Android background capabilities to your app
Update: I changed back to standard/system launcher, added the widgets and they disappeared after 2 days. One of the widgets was Google Keep, the other one event flow calendar and Google Calendar. When I started Google Keep from the app, the widget came back. I just had to choose my Google Account again. But it works.
Is there anybody out there who found a solution for this issue? Looks like it loses the connection to the app or something.

Hello i had the same problem. Because i have install almost my apk direct from my backup (file explorer) and many widget (agenda business, digical, aquamail dont working). I have reinstall from Play Store and problem solved... And Nova Launcher working now... (just problem accessibility if you use gesture).
The thing is that I did not backup anything. I did a fresh install from Google Play. Nova launcher actually worked, also the gesture. But not the widgets. But as I said, they disappear even with the system launcher.
So it is not related to Nova Launcher I guess.
I did not find a nice solution so far. Just the one I described, but it is rather a compromise instead of a solution. Damn Xiaomi

tried the standard launcher and from what I can tell, it didn't affect the widgets. which sucks as the standard launcher is weak sauce.
I gave the app of the widgets that didn't work in Nova Launcher all permissions, and they worked after that.
