[RECOVERY][BigPart] TWRP 2.7.1.0 - Xoom Android Development

TWRP 2.7.1.0 for the Xoom
Must be BigPart repartitioned. I've flashed, backed up and restored, everything seems to work fine!
Thanks @Schischu for giving me a tip when I got stuck

What's new in 2.7.1.0:
- Add GUI option to change or repair file systems on individual partitions. The change is destructive so backup your data including internal sdcard first. This option should make it a little easier to migrate a device from ext4 -> f2fs, for instance. You will find this option under Wipe -> Advanced Wipe, then select only one partition and then press the Repair or Change File System button. If a developer has added f2fs support for your device and we don't have it in TWRP, please contact me via PM to arrange for it to be added.
- Various bugfixes to backup and restore
- Improvements to USB storage handling
- Added a class to search for files to make finding the correct brightness file automatic in most cases
- Various other bugfixes and tweaks

Does it woek with everest? It says wingray when I try to download.
Please confirm if this can be usee with everest. Thanks

Hi Matt,
I really appreciate the thoughtfulness, and concern you had for all of us in writing this file. However, I have real issues with the Dev-Host site itself that most of the Xoom developers seem to favor.
First of all, it's almost impossible to download the desired file from the site, no matter how hard you search for the proper download link. it would be nice if the site administrater could simplify the process. On this issue as well, this morning, as I tried to download, I ended up being redirected to porn sites several times. I'm sorry, but those redirects were greatly disturbing and offensive. Can you lodge a complaint with the site administrater? Pornography degrades, cheapens, and minimalizes human beings to make them into objects of self gratification.

The reason most RC/RDs use dev-host is that we get extended support for free! I will mirror the file to androidfilehost so others can get the file there.
Both files have been mirrored on my AFH account:

There is no difference. I made this because I thought it'd be useful for the Xoom. About 2 days later RnH made his, I just don't think he noticed this thread so did it anyway. maybe @runandhide05 can verify?
Either will suffice and work on bigPart

Yea I'm following everything on the zoom and grouper for EOS. I actually follow everything on the xoom that is big part. Rah has fixed his wording. His op said you must have a f2fs rom with this recovery. I flashed your recovery file because the lack of f2fs on xoom. He has since changed his op to be written in more understandable instructions. Making it clear that f2fs is just an option.

Is there a way to determine the condition of the partition table? At this point I don't know if normal, bigpart or none? Can I force a good partition table in from the outside using RSD or Fastboot? I have no recovery right now.

not sure what you're asking... if you don't have a recovery, you can flash one in fastboot mode.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just get the raw image (.img) and not the recovery-flashable zip...
As to the partition info, i think there's info in the BigPart thread on how to determine what format you have.

What I'm trying to learn is why NO recovery will take. I can fastboot and rsd, but nothing else. Everything I do is mirrored on the Xoom's display "Stormgr" writing what I send, but then booting to recovery goes nowhere!! There is apparently no OS on here either. We're very close to selling the darn thing for parts, but really don't want to. I think the combination of bigpart or standard recovery+boot performs the partioning? With no recovery - no partitioning. True?

[NOT WORKING][MOD][GalaxyS][RECOVERY][10-Jun-2011] Clockwork 4.0.0.0 - new wipe menu

This does not work. I tried it and was corrected. The Samsug Galaxy S doesn't have a recovery partition according to users in this thread. Therefore, this thread has been discontinnued and should be closed.
First of all, this is not my work. I only compiled it.
This is the usual ClockworkMod recovery, compiled from the CM7 sources with additions/modifications by j_r0dd. What I've done is only to compile it for the Samsung Galaxy S (i9000).
The credits go to Koush for the recovery itself and to j_r0dd for the modifications.
j_r0dd said:
This is based on the latest CM7 source which I modified for myself. I take no credit for the recovery whatsoever, but I will take all the blame for my mods . We all know this is Koush's hard work. Just some things were driving me crazy personally. First was the confirmation menu. I really got sick of scrolling through all those "No"s just to flash something, so i changed it for me personally and just thought I would share. I also created a proper wipe menu. I got sick of some wipes in the main menu and the rest in the "advanced" menu. I made this more Amon_RA like. See the attached screenshot for my changes. That change has led to a few others by me. flash with fastboot or flash_image. THESE ARE NOT IN ROM MANAGER. Also if you have an issue with this take it up with me NOT Koush.

Original Nexus S thread with changelog here.
Only available in standard orange, I actually can't be bothered to find out how to make different color variants.
Download:
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Without the /sdcard mounting bug)
GalaxyS_recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.0-j_r0dd_mod.zip (Buggy when mounting /sdcard)
Disclaimer
These recoveries are compiled using the latest commits from koush, j_r0dd and others. That means they haven't been thoroughly tested and might have minor/major issues. I take no responsibility for any damages this thing might cause, but most things should work as intended. If you want something guaranteed to work, I think you should stick with one of the older versions.
Source code available here.
OK, and what am I to do with it?
Does this support RFS ?
Or only EXT4 ?
The recovery image is not supported to flash it on I9000.....
this is great.... i don't think it's Odin flashable rightnow, so not trying anything for now but would like to see it in flashable form. I am right, right?
The problem is I don't know anything about flashing an SGS phone. I simply assumed one uses an img file for the recovery. I'll see tomorrow if there's a way to make it work.

Stupid question?
Why remove it if all you need to do is touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm with stock recovery? and it does the same thing?
No, with this one you don't have so many "no" choices in the menu. And other differences in the menus as well. Look in the Nexus S thread for more details.

If you touch /sdcard/clockworkmod/.no_confirm on stock CWM you get dont get the "no" choices" menu changes I understand, but i dont see the point in removing the confirmation if you can turn it on / off by default

No, that's a different thing. In this recovery, you'll still need to confirm, but you won't have to go through so many "no's" to reach the "yes". You'll have no and yes as the two only choices. Also, j_r0dd moved some wipe features into main menu -> wipe. He also removed the obsolete "Install update.zip", seeing as people will browse directories and name files other things than update.zip nowadays. Things like that. That's the reason for the mod.
Updated OP to version 4.0.0.0.
Added back the 3.2.0.0 version in the OP so you won't have the /sdcard mounting issue. Hopefully it can be resolved soon, so we can start using the 4.0.0.0 version. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks for trying but a SGS does not have a recovery partition.
The recovery executable you have built needs to be embedded into the kernels zimage on SGS.
Its the one thing that stopped me building a psfmod recovery for SGS unlike every other device where recovery has its own kernel etc, the SGS recovery is in the main system kernel. Bad practice on Samsung for that.
People will have to wait.
FYI, CWM 4.0.0.1 is on githib now with sdcard bug fixed.

[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.3.3.1 Touch Recovery With exFat Support

Team Win Recovery Project 2.3, or twrp2 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a fully touch driven user interface – no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Ziggy Is back again with a present
This recovery is same as TWRP Recovery 2.3.3.1 but wit exFat Support. This version does read and flash on exfat sdcards! The advantages with exfat is that it can handle files larger than 4gb in size. This recovery will read any card you stick in it, straight out of the box no formatting required
This is a .img file not Flashable zip!
Instructions :
Flashing the new image, which installs it as your recovery system. You do this from either an ADB shell or inside Terminal Emulator.
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/sdcard/<file>.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
You're done. Reboot!!
Hit Thanks if you like to!

Encryption
Will this handle an encrypted FS? CWM does not and due to restrictions by a policy placed down by my company, if we want email we must be encrypted. Once my device is encrypted pulling nandroid backups becomes impossible.
Any chance of this update being updated on GooManager? I don't want to play the system by using the ADB,etc.

[MOD][GUIDE] AdAway on Write Protected /system Partitions [RECOVERY]

If your /system partition is write protected like on the HTC One (M7) and you try to use an advertisement blocker like AdAway, you will encounter that changes to /system/etc/hosts are lost after reboot and ad blocking doesn't work. You have basically 3 methods to get around this:
A) Link /system/etc/hosts to a partition AdAway can write to
Install symlink_hosts_to_data.zip via your custom recovery (like CWM) to create a symbolic link from /system/etc/hosts to /data/data/hosts. Afterwards you can configure AdAway to use /data/data/hosts (as shown in attached screenshot) and it will work perfectly with updates and everything.
B) Flash the hosts file directly
Install adaway_hosts_2014-04-14.zip via recovery. Now you have the hosts file as AdAway created on April 14th 2014. Disadvantage: you would need to flash again for updates. Advantage: you don't need the AdAway app at all. Note: many custom ROMs include such a hosts file already in their distribution.
C) Make /system partition writable
Use this kernel extension or a custom ROM including it to have the /system partition writable all the time. AdAway will work out-of-the-box then.
If you like to restore original state after having flashed one of the recovery zips above, use the attached restore_original_hosts.zip
Mantelinho said:
The attached recovery flashable update.zip modifies your /system/etc/hosts file just like AdAway or Adblock Plus would. Useful if your /system partition is write protected like on the HTC One (and changes are lost after reboot).
You need
a custom recovery like ClockWorkMod on your device
the understanding that you will use this script at your own risk
You could also
make the /system partition writable via kernel patch and use the app
use a custom ROM which comes with an ad-blocking hosts file already
This uses the hosts list from AdAway as of June 17th 2013. All credits for this to AdAway and its contributors

Can you create a script which creates the symbolic link i.e. the approach recommended in AdAway help (S-ON/S-OFF)? That would allow the file to be updated by the app over time...

This makes sense if you want to keep using the app, thanks for the hint. I uploaded symlink_hosts_to_data.zip and updated the opening post. This will work also after having the other zip already applied.

Either the one dated (and you're fine) OR the symlink one if wanting to use AdAway configured to write to /data/data/hosts. The third file is only for restoring original state.

This should block all ads so far (at least it absolutely does for me). However the list of ad servers is actively maintained by hosts-file.net. If you should find an ad host not blocked you can post it there and it will find its way back to AdAway. To be always up-to-date I recommend using AdAway with the symlink method from OP.
Dunno why but it doesn't block ads on the goal.com app but for some reason no adblock app ever really did, strange!

Hey, just inquiring...
I've done the "flash host files directly" step, and playing Subway Surfers.
It would seem that ads are only blocked on that game when I have system set to RW...(I think...?...not 100% sure, but it would seem this way)
I was under the impression that it shouldn't matter because I'm flashing the host file directly?
Can anyone offer their thoughts please.

Yes, after flashing the hosts files directly no further steps should be necessary and ads be gone. Can you verify that ads also exist in other applications (or websites)? Maybe this is an issue with the app you are using, for example if it loads its apps from its own (unblocked) server.
Yeah, I think you're right about it perhaps being app related. I think maybe I need to monitor it a bit more closely and take random notes...
like sometimes I'm bombarded with advertisments any time I touch to advance or go back through menus...but just in that app...then I'll reboot...and sometimes it'll go a full day without ads...?
I also use a local news app which would normally advertise dating links, but those don't seem to appear...so it's definitely working.
All good though...thanks for answering that for me!
Much appreciated!!!

Thanks so much for this info Mantelinho, I had been looking for a solution. When using this 1st method, do I need to flash symlink_hosts_to_data.zip in recovery after every ROM flash? I.e., I'm dirty-flashing CyanogenMod nightlies every other day or so and I'm not sure if need to re-create the symlink after every flash.
edit: I have discovered I DO need to flash symlink_hosts_to_data.zip after every ROM flash.

Flash the above in recovery and then do a "reboot recovery" to get into Philz Touch!
Enjoy
Screenshot attached (thanks Skunk Ape1).
Huge thanks to @Phil3759 for an awesome recovery, and @Skunk Ape1 for testing!:thumbup:
This will be getting updated later today since Philz Touch 5.15 has been released
Thank you again for all your support :good:
I would like to thank Phil3759 for this very cool recovery and CNexus for the port for the gn2.
This is great! Considering all of the features this has I think it should be in original development forum. Thanks CNexus!

Something came up and it's looking like I won't be able to do it today, unfortunately
No worries, this is your playground, we just play here.

No problem buddy. My thinking goes something like, if it ain't broken, why fix it.
Getting an error when trying to flash though recovery. It gives an error "failed: getprop ("ro.product.device")"
I flashed 5.11 after I ran into an issue with TWRP 2.6.3.0 not formatting my system correctly. Very impressed with the features, but I wish the category buttons were just a few pixels wider. Other than that it flashes and erases perfectly. Thank you for the port!

You can resize that in Philz settings > GUI Preferences > Menu Height
I'd suggest you spend some time in recovery lol....you can basically customize everything

That means that this recovery is not for your device.
All I did was fallow your link and DL the file listed on AFH. It was file name philz_5.11-d2spr_cnexus.zip
Edit: just checked again. Same file. Was listed for gnote2.
Im running whomp4.2 and saber kernel. Tried flashing in cwm and in twrp and same error in both.
Awesome. I'll check it out now. I got a little nervous when I saw brightness settings and a file explorer option that didn't respond so I stuck with what I knew I will go in and change it now though. Thanks for the tip!

Oh shoot. Sorry I botched the updater script. Should be fixed now, please check the folder again and download the new one!

Read main thread to enable aroma file manager. It can be accessed using gestured (double tap outside menus by default)

Just downloaded and updater script still has d2spr as ro.product.device
my phone has t0ltespr as ro.product.device
Hopefully I can just edit the script. I'm going to Nandroid and try. will let you know results.
EDIT==
Changed the update-script and zip flashed with no errors, but TWRP still starts when I reboot to recovery.
Just tried to Flash this but is just "Failed"
all set..Skunk and Daniel got me squared away..thanks...are the twrp backups compatible w/this recov?

Yes, if you find the "custom backup and restore" menu
Sorry, I'll just remove the checks from the updater-script then, they don't seem to be working right

If I flash the zip will I have the lokized issue, has anyone flashed the zip? I had trouble with md5sum not matching the browser download until I used goo manager. Has anyone used OTG backup/restore?
I've been very happy with TWRP but this recovery is looking interesting

If you need loki, let me know. But not sure loki already added support for your phone

I have a developer edition and do not want loki, just wondering if I have to go through the hassle of removing it.

Read the FAQ please
And anyway, I did not enable the loki flag in installer
Also, I do not think loki even supports this device
If you once need it, let me know and I will enable it. You won't be hurt as the image is never released lokied. It is done on flashing it

Cool, have you used it with other devices? I noticed it's also available for my backup phone, lg spectrum and that's a plus.

No only this device...I sold my N2 before I had a chance to try it but it seems to be very popular. I love the customability to change the layout and colors of all the menus...that is just scratching the surface.
I just read the op (1-3) again and have a few questions but am still confused and/or don't know enough to ask meaningful questions. I have my zips and should be able to switch back and forth so will start there. Looks like others in our group are also interested.

Well my zips work and I can switch back and forth. I won't be using customizing much and find the way the cursor always shoots back to the top item when selecting something me wonder what I selected, was that setting on or off? Found the soft buttons on the bottom the easiest way to navigate. I tried to use an OTG drive, it seems to mount but I was unable to do anything with it and it looks like when you leave the mount menu it unmounts, at least it was not available for browse from the install from zip menu. The UI is blindingly fast, like instantaneous and very nice on the eyes. I would have to get used to the whole thing though so first impression is overkill. A sweet and simple recovery it is not. I would like to hear some reviews from the rest of you

I just used PhilZ 6 to do two nandroids and install a new ROM. It all worked smoothly. So far, so good. Recommended.
