S-off = security off
S-on = security on
in s-off,kernel can flash from recovery
in s-on,kernel can flash from only pc,cant flash from recovery..
s-off :
-Downgrade/upgrade the hboot
-Return to stock including locked bootloader is easier for warranty
-no more boot.img flash needed when changing roms
-flash recoveries from within the recovery with a zip file
-flash any firmware from all regions (like a wwe version on a honkong version)

Yes, if S-Off you can flash directly from the device itself, using CWM etc.
Are you sure you have an S-Off HOX? If so Lucky you !!
People have been searching for S-Off on HOX for a long time now, with no result !
Unlocking with htcdev doesn't give you s-off so you will still need to flash the boot.img with fastboot

Cheers that clears that up for me
Hi,
I am a new to XDA Developers and I only registered because I have a problem with my HTC Wildfire (Buzz). I need to downgrade my hBoot so I can unlock the bootloader. I didn't know about the bootloader having to be unlocked so I used Revolutionary. I had hboot 1.01.1001 at the time and it was a successfull root. I tried to boot to Clockworkmod Recovery to install Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 when a HTC phone picture came up with a red triangle with a '!' inside it. The specs of the phone are as follows:
Android OS: 2.1 (Eclair) (I downgraded from 2.2.1 recently)
hBoot:
-Revolutionary-
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
MICROP-0622

Please help! I really want to be on Cyanogenmod rom asap because stock is slow. I need to downgrade Hboot to 1.01.1001 (I don't know how) so I can unlock bootloader using HTCDev.
Thanks,

Why do you need to use HTCDev?? By doing that you void any chance of your warranty.
You need to flash a recovery.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Assuming recovery is named recovery.img and it is placed in your fastboot folder.

I tried using ROM manager but as I said the picture comes up. What fastboot folder and recovery.img?

You need a fastboot folder and need to install the HBOOT drivers. See the first few steps of my rooting guide.

I got it now. I had to use the fastboot flash command with an older recovery image. I am now using Cyanogenmod 7.2.0. Thanks guys

Heh! Can I update Hboot before I unlock my bootloader or istall custom recovery or custom ROM?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
If you never unlocked the bootloader in the first place i would check for official updates. Or did you update to JB already ?
Yes I have official JB 4.1.1. But i'd like to install ARHD and I thought you need Hboot update for that.

I have Hboot version 1.39. Does it mean I Don't have to update Hboot?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Yes that does mean you do not have to update your hboot. Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and make a NANDROID BACKUP ! Store the backup somewhere safe !!! Then you can flash any rom out there !
Thanks!

You get the stock recovery from the OP of this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Stock ics....my guess you need the 2.17 stock.
Rename the file to recovery.img and flash it
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Yes, flash a custom recovery and make a new fresh NANDROID backup. Then root again or flash a new custom rom
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
