[Q] Note II Bricked - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I've been having tons of trouble over the last week or so with my phone. I've had to do 2-3 factory resets, downgraded to 4.1.2, returned to stock via Odin, and tried to do the 4.4 update countless times. Every time except the last one, I got an "install interrupted" error and it wouldn't go through. On Sunday, I did yet another factory reset (I was trying to get it back to stock, everything went through, but I couldn't get it out of a loop between the AT&T logo and the Samsung logo), then suddenly the update was being pushed to my phone. I let it go through, and it completed 100% this time. And then my phone wouldn't go past the black and white Samsung Galaxy Note II screen.
I've tried everything I can think of/have found online. Battery has been pulled countless times. I left it out for about 11 hours yesterday while I was at work. I can't get into recovery mode to do a factory reset, but I can get into download mode. I've tried a TWRP recovery, attempted to put 4.1.2 back on via Odin, which worked when my phone soft-bricked a few days ago, flashed the stock firmware, I even downloaded Kies to try that but Kies 3 says my phone isn't supported and the earlier one stated my version wasn't supported.
I went into the AT&T store yesterday and both the reps and tech support couldn't fix it, which I went in expecting. I ended up having to order a new phone as mine is 2 months out of warranty, but I'm still curious on if I can get it to work. Does anyone here have any ideas? Plugging the phone in to charge just brings it to the black and white screen, but I left it on last night and drained the battery and have it charging now (I assume it's charging since plugging it in brought up that B&W screen after a few minutes, but I couldn't tell you for sure). As I have a new phone coming, I'm not too worried about trying things on this one, so any ideas are welcome. I'm relatively new to rooting and flashing, so dumbed down explanations are welcome.

The phone can charge when turned off in pretty much any situation.
Depending on the exact model and release, qFuses inside many Qualcomm SoC Samsung phones prevent the bootloaders from being downgraded through Odin; flash might fail or it just won't boot afterwards because it doesn't match the signature checked by the previous step in the boot chain.
Assuming you've successfully flashed the 4.4 bootloaders, you're going to be stuck with them.
Try flashing the correct, unmodified 4.4 ROM through Odin, boot to recovery and factory reset, reboot.
Be aware that I just checked and the AT&T one isn't out on SamMobile yet... you might have to wait a few days.
Pulling the battery for a prolonged amount of time won't change a thing unless you're dealing with a thermal or hardware issue. Same goes for charging and discharging the battery, which will only reduce the battery's useful life and capacity.

I followed sections all sections 1 threw 3. At section 2 the link for the I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip did not work. I used this link instead.

At section 3 don't be alarmed when it says it's downloading the update but it doesn't show percentages. It is downloading. In fact for me it automatically downloaded the 4.4.2 update instead of 4.3. It skipped it and went straight to kitkat. It took some time but I have Official KItkat 4.4.2.

All I did was flashed back to 4.1.1 then let it set for like 5 mins then did the update then it will stick at the note 2 screen then pull the battery then put the phone into download mode then flash the mk6 bootloader then the rom will boot then just do the update again and you should be good my phone did what yours is doing and all I did was flash the mk6 bootloader and it went to the recovery screen again

You need the full, KitKat AT&T Odin flashable ROM. Period. Don't bother with any older version.
You might want to look into making a debrick SD card, but you'll need someone with a working device to post the image. (I've mostly read about this for Qualcomm devices, but it seems to work in a similar fashion for Exynos ones.)
If your Odin ROM is missing bootloaders, it is possible to dd them from a debrick image, trim any empty space at the end with a hex editor and package them into a tarball for Odin.

Welcome to XDA if you are just joining us today. Pretty unpleasant first post I'm sure.
Anyhow.. did you mean to say synergy ROM instead of energy ROM? if phone won't turn on or not recornize you are in pretty bad shape. But there might still be hope. Try a few of these things if you haven't,
Charge battery fully maybe battery drained too fast and couldn't keep up with booting process.
Once it boot and all goes well, great. If not find stock kernel in development section and install it and try to reboot.
Check if drivers are installed properly if not reinstall drivers so PC can recornize your device.
If your PC can recornize it use Odin method to restore stock ROM or reinstall recovery.
By the way how did you root your phone? What recovery and how did you try to install custom ROM?
Good luck with everything. I'm sure its sucks but you are in the right place. We are here to help each other..

Where did you get that ROM from? If its from another variant you are bricked. You ha we to make sure you install Tmobile ROMs. Sure there are those that say att ROMs also work but you have to be more careful. As for the comment the other guy posted about this phone being tempremental, I'd say his experience was horrible but its not true for everyone. There are many people on here who are running custom phones just fine. You just have to rememeber to read read read. You can't flash international ROMs because they'll brick you.

If you flashed energy rom from international s3 forum, you are toasted.
You can not flash any other rom not meant for tmobile s3. I hope you find another way to revive your tmo s3.

The red light that starts up and goes off thats not good.
The bootloader is wiped if it wasnt the pc would see it and you would be able to use odin, but since its wiped there is nothing that can be done
Jtag is the fix, they have a way to rewrite everything using external power supplies and interfaces that rewrite the chipset

[Q] Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 freezes on all ROMs

Hi there,
My Galaxy Note II freezes up on all the ROMs that I've tried. (CM, and other ROMs)
This problem started yesterday when I rooted my phone using the Note 2 toolkit.
Even after flashing back the stock 4.1.2 UK version of the ROM, the problem is still there.
Honestly I've tried everything to sort this out but it randomly freezes (sometimes even after a fresh wipe of a ROM installation)
If I reset the custom binary counter and reset it back to the original ROM again, will my warranty be still there?
Cheers
Could be hardware.
Yeah to last question.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Once try using device without ext sd card if you having it.
If still it freeze without sd card, it may hardware issue. Better to send to service station.
If your fladh binary is 'no' in download mode, then your warranty is intact

I had a different problem, all apps gets removed after a normal reboot..
So I solved it by installing TWRP recovery then went to wipe.. And clicked all the 8 buttons there .. And now it's working fine.. You may try it that.. It might help..
For the warranty, I have no idea about the warranties thing..

I have a similar issue. I rooted my N7100 shortly after getting it xmas 2012 and flashed OMEGA rom (maybe v10). All worked flawlessly until maybe May 2013 then phone started freezing intermittently and frequently. I'm now running Liquidsmooth 2.8, flashed on July 1st after doing a complete wipe (data/cache/Dalvik) and doing a clean install of system apps. The phone still freezes, now even more than before....tried reflashing but no luck. Also tried Moon Rom v8 (kept getting boot loop) and ParanoidAndroid (gapps would flash successfully, but wouldn't show up once after reboot).
Any idea what's causing this?
Did u try to format the internal sdcard completely ?
I too had this problem, I was getting all sorts of problems, reboots, errors, failed flashes, even after doing all the wipes and trying different roms, the only way I could fix it was to flash a stock room through odin with a pit file to reset the partition table, worked a charm after.
Might be totally unrelated but though I'd share

Not yet...has doing this resolved the issue for you in the past? I removed my external sdcard yesterday shortly after posting this and phone definitely improved (still not resolved tho). I use to get ~10 freezes a day, but only got 1 so far after removing ext sdcard. I'm planning on experimenting wit this for another day or so before deciding on additional steps

[solved] Does T999UVDMD5 lag on your phone?

It all started here:
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/44716
I griped on the T-Mobile forums about the struggle I've had in finding a smooth ROM for my T999. And I made an off-handed comment in another thread that got me pointed in the right direction hopefully. I'm looking for other T999 owners that have this problem.
The problem on DMD5 is all related to (apparently) intensive tasks. Playing games, mostly. Temple Run 2 and Fruit Ninja, neither of which are all that intensive, were nigh-on unplayable. Other games like Scramble with Friends would lag and stutter a bit, too. So after a lot of searching, I reverted to a pre-rooted T999UVDLJC with the matching baseband, so that way my phone doesn't try to update itself OTA. And performance is pretty good. But I'd like to think that I'm not alone, and I found I'm not alone in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326763&page=33
At the bottom of this page and the top of the next one, I found at least one kindred spirit that has a rev0 phone and has the same issue with DMD5.
NO other ROM has this issue. I've tried all of the official Samsung ROMs and I have tried official CM10.1 nightlies and the official 10.1 stable release and performance is very good on all of them. But it took a huge serious nosedive on T999UVDMD5.
So I'm curious about two things:
Does DMD5 run well on your phone? Particularly with games - that's where it was most notable, but even TWLauncher is laggy for me.
How old is your phone? According to the box for my phone it was built 6/30/2012.
If you are affected, could you help us all out on the T-Mobile support forum, and post a message in my thread at the top of the page? If we can get T-Mo and/or Samsung to look into it maybe we won't get left behind. I plan on using this phone for another year or more and I'd rather get the official updates in the future, too.
Update July 6, 2013: I found out thanks to help from people in this thread that I can run mismatched modem firmware/ROM and with the JLC modem on MD5 ROM, my phone runs fantastic. Or at least it has for about 2 hours - usually issues have shown themselves by now, and since they haven't cropped up I'm calling this resolved.
When you were on MD5, how did you update to it? OTA? Odin? Recovery flashable ROM?
And how much data have you been carrying over? (When did you last wipe data/factory reset, without restoring backups?)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
---------- Post added at 01:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ----------
Btw, I'm on MD5, completely stock right now. Hw is Rev. 0
I get very little lag, if any, ever. Simple games or even intensive games run very fluidly for me.
For example, I just got Man of Steel when it went on sale and it works almost perfectly. Disney, Gameloft, EA games have all worked just fine.
The only MD5 issues I've seen around here seem to occur when someone is using a mixed build with the MD5 radio. And then its only been reports of heat issues and slight battery issues. Haven't seen much of anything regarding poor performance.

I've tried all of the above. I even let Kies install it once. I've used TriangleAway and Odin to install 4.0.4 and let it do all the OTAs. Iv'e done factory resets and I've told setup not to restore my data to the phone and started from scratch. I used a flashable ZIP with the pre-rooted ROM, and when I did that I also got the DMD5 modem flashable ZIP to go along with it. I've tried not rooted. I've tried custom kernels, and I've tried stock. Odin completely stock and flashable zip totally customized. I've played with custom DMD5-based ROMs with the v6 script and I've tried not. I'm way out of ideas right now.
Sorry, @kennyglass123, I didn't realize I'd checked that box.
Starting to think all of them have "rev 0" for the CPU identifier, so that may not be the way to tell who has what.
Just to be clear, did you ever Factory Reset, then Odin flash MD5 (not mobile odin btw), and factory reset again to ensure internal sd was cleaned out too? If for MD5, you only flashed the Rom and Modem, you would have been on a mixed build. Also, many devs suggest waiting an hour before starting with any testing or reconfiguring. I'm not convinced this is always necessary, but they do usually kno more than me!
Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to argue against your point, just to make sure not only that you've covered all angles, but that anyone who wants to back up your claim has also done the same.
As for the revision number, it may still be relevant as mine would have been among the first built too. We would need to find at least several others with the same, and different, to know for sure if it matters here.
Its always possible too that you got the unlucky pick of the hardware. (Just as possible though that I got a lucky pick)
Anyway, if you really are having that bad of problems with it, you may want to check if its still under warranty. I don't believe its the norm though.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yeah I'm pretty sure, but I'm willing to do anything at this point. I'll do it again. I've stashed the Odin tar.md5 file on my backup hard drive, so I'll back up my working config and flash it again. Worst case scenario is that I re-root it, re-install recovery, and then restore my backup. Should take an hour max.
Use the root66 version of the firmware. Its pre rooted and is what I am running right now. Root alone won't have any negative effect, but will allow for much better troubleshooting.
Aside from that, keep it as clean from restored data as possible. Even a single corrupted contact entry can cause services to hang and eat up resources. I wouldn't even flash a recovery until you're ready to restore something.
(I use Mobile Odin Pro and it almost completely replaces the need for cwm or twrp. The only thing it can't do yet is make a nandroid backup.)

Whoops - found the Mobile Odin thread on XDA and got the lite version and the T999 flashing kernel. I'll give it a go.
Regarding The AOSP MD5 issues: the same thing is happening to me on stock. Have to use LJC or the battery sucks. What are your reboot habits like?

Yes, root66 is basically just 100% stock firmware, only rooted. Itll download as a .7z file. Just extract it and use the .tar.md5. You have the correct thread.
Mobile Odin is one of my all time favorite apps. Its from Chainfire if you are familiar with him. (SuperSU)
Its not a recovery exactly. What it does is reboots using what's called a flash kernel. This allows it to flash firmware like PC Odin, but also can flash roms that are made for recovery flashing. It doesn't replace the stock recovery like cwm/twrp either, so it also won't trip the flash counter. (I know that doesn't really matter with Triangle Away available (also by Chainfire)).
The only two drawbacks, (minor imo) are that it can't create nandroids, and it doesn't flash the FULL firmware (this is by design though).
I wouldn't bother with it right now, but definitely check it out after testing all this. Theres a free, lite, version here on xda. Ill send more info from my computer later.

OK awesome, I will check it out. I think what I'm going to do right now is just reset the flash counter, flash the Odin image, and then factory reset and set it up as a new phone. Does that sound reasonable? If I reboot into CWM after triangle away, it trips the flash counter again, at least that's what it seems to do, so I can't do anything other than reboot to download after Triangle Away.

There is no possible way it could be necessary. Proof or it's placebo.

I don't reboot unless the battery dies, or I was rebooting a lot when I was on MD5 trying to get stuff to work well. Generally I try not to mess with a good thing.

That sounds fine. Remember, if you factory reset with stock recovery installed, it will wipe internal sdcard.
As long as you have cwm or twrp, the flash counter will always be at 1. I wouldn't worry about that for now though. It won't affect overall operation.

OK, I won't mess with it too much then. I've backed up my internal storage already and I've backed up my SMS using SMS Backup and Restore. That thing has been very handy keeping copies of my texts while I screw with this.
Cool, sounds like you're good to go! Good luck! And let us know how things seem to be acting after flashing.
Don't forget to factory reset after flashing md5.

OK I got as far as the factory reset and then it was time to paint. My daughter's bedroom wasn't going to paint itself. I finally came back to the phone and it was patiently waiting for me to log in. I logged in and installed just a couple apps while I ate lunch, and then it sat until we were done painting and cleaning up. Logged into Facebook and Twitter, set up Google Now and updated Samsung apps. Once all that was done, I fired up Temple Run 2 and it was OK at first, but within 3-4 minutes it was choppy and laggy again. The phone never got warm to the touch. It just ran poorly. I exited out and killed all apps with the built-in task manager, and went back to the game. Not really any better. It's just super choppy. I even turned down all the graphics options in the settings for the game and that made zero difference.
Eventually I gave up. Restored my 4.1.1 backup, fired up some stuff, performance was great. It's just the combination of my phone and that software. No idea what it is at this point. I do appreciate all the assistance you guys have lent me.
Right now I'm on T-mo and was waiting out the 60 days before I ported my wife's number in to my account. Now that that's over, I'll eventually port in her number. She's extremely happy with her iPhone 4s and insists she's not interested in an iPhone 5, so what I'll probably do is use the ability to get new hardware as an excuse to get a Galaxy S4. WHen I first came to T-mo I just got a SIM and bought the phone used - found out later on that I should have just bought a phone through T-mo because I can't get a new phone on a payment plan for a year unless it's as part of a new line. She'll be a new line, so I'll get a phone.
This hasn't put me off on Samsung or even on the GS3 - it's just my phone has a weird issue of some sort. And the people here have been super awesome. Thanks tons for all your advice. In the meantime I'll run JLC and leave well enough alone.

OK I see it there. So I should use the LJC modem/firmware with the DMD5 debloat ROM you're going to PM the link for to me? Will they work if they're mismatched? I assumed (not that I'd bothered asking before) that they'd all have to be the same.

[Q] Kernel crash led to inability to mount sd card

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any help with my phone. Earlier this week, I woke up to shut off the alarm on my phone but was seeing a bunch of google processes failing. After about a minute of hitting okay, I finally managed to turn off my alarm. It was at that point that I decided to reboot my phone only to see the Demigod Kernel Crash screen and I haven't been able to boot up since then. I went into recovery mode to see if I could just flash another ROM but it's unable to mount the sd card. "Alright," I thought "I'll just use LGNPST again (I've used it before) and restore it that way." Well, it fails early in the beginning, earlier than it's "supposed to." Something about a Masterbin error. I've tried redownloading everything, drivers, lgnpst, .bins, but I keep getting that same bin error. Someone in the irc suggested a virtual box but that gave me a headache just trying to figure that out. So my question is am I left with any options other than sending it in to have someone jtag it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you try wiping everything? SD included.
Did you uninstall, then reinstall LGNPST.
Last option I have is try LGFlashTool. It has is own thread in Development.

Yeah, I wiped everything after LGNPST didn't work for me. I'll try reinstalling it one more time and, if that fails, I'll use the LG Flash Tool. Thanks for your reply; will report back if it works.
The LG flash tool is (I believe) what sprint repair techs use to fix any software issues. It resets every position taking it back to 'out of the box' including hands free activation

That may be what I need seeing as how the error I see whenever I try to use LGNPST says it fails to write partition during the Masterbin download. Unfortunately, the link I found in the LG Flash Tool thread is down. I asked the OP there to rehost it but he hasn't replied yet.
Urgh, this past week without a phone has been tough.

Downgrading Note 4 (SM-910A) to Lollipop(5.1.1)

Ever since I got Marshmallow update on September 26, 2016. My device is not functioning properly. While I'm on phone it randomly restarts, while it's charging it freezes up and restarts, restarts while it's in my pocket. Also sometimes my phone just freezes and if I press power/home button. My phone would not wake up, so I have to remove my battery and put it back in (I do this like 10 times in a day). I already talked to Samsung they said they can't help and also talked to AT&T and they told me to just buy a new device. Basically I want to roll back to Lollipop, because it was working perfectly fine on Lollipop, so if anyone could provide me a link for an official 5.1.1 with August security patch stock at&t ROM it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
same here
I experienced the exact same conditions. Mine would go into reboot hell where it would not complete a reboot and just reboot itself until the battery went dead. I performed a low level factory reset and it returned to some level of functionality. I would like to roll mine back too.
Cannot be done.
Anti-downgrade lock. You have a 6.0 bootloader, cannot flash a 5.x.x one.
Can't do much in your case, except for maybe a factory reset.
