It didn't work for me at all... Hav eyou changed anything in his procedure?
I've done exactly what the tutorial says!
I don't know why it doesn't work for you...have you set the right permissions for bootanim and samsungani files? (I've done everything from root explorer)
edit: I've used the honeycomb blue from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985251
just rename to sanim.zip and copy the file into /system/media
That's all
Sorry if my english is sooo bad...
it works like a charm. only have to unzip custom_booting, copy it with root explorer to system/bin and then copy sadim.zip to system/media
it really worked! unbelievable
i've tried so hard to change this damn thing
and now a short process can do that
thank you
it will not work if the kernel you are using has disabled bootanimation
It didn't work for me too, at first try . But then i saw this post, tried it, and it worked like a charm . (im using kezra v4 atm .)

Forget my question, I found the answer with just a bit of research. I'll leave it here as well in case someone wants to install a custom boot animation for whatever reason. To re-enable it I just edited the /system/build.prop file, deleting the "debug.sf.nobootanimation = 1" line.

or you can just edit it to 0 .
i edited that file using root browser

I tried to use the same boot animation also but it didn't work even though i've followed the exact instructions.
Did you change anything on the desc.txt file inside the sanim.zip or changed some system files?
I'm using ginger ice 2.1 oc by the way and also set debug.sf.nobootanimation = 0.
Please advise. Thanks.

my steps :
1. get bootanimation and samsungani (custombooting.zip attachment) from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161354
2. get one of the boot animation from this thread (i choose honeycomb blue ) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985251
3. rename the bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip,
4. backed up samsungani and bootanimation in system/bin,
5. copied bootanimation and samsungani from step 1 to system/bin,
6. set permission rwx - rwx - r_x to both of the files (in my phone they set automatically using root browser),
7. copy sanim.zip from step 3 to system/media,
8. reboot, and awesomeness .
sorry if my steps above are little bit confusing, but that was my steps

how to make the STEP 6?
Droid Invander's
Present
Boot Animations Randomizer
Introduction
Here's a repackage of djmcnz Random Boot Animation script. All credits goes to him. I only like the concept and thought of sharing this with my Galaxy S users
What it Does
This will have you different boot animation on each reboot as there are times we love many bootanimation however we only use one and if we need another than we have to replace the old one. This will allow you to cycle through all your loved bootanimations.
How it Works
The script executes on startup, generates a random number, assigns this number to a boot animation stored in /data/local/bootanimations/, copies that animation to /data/local/bootanimation.zip and let's Android take over from there. Android will automatically prefer /data/local/bootanimation.zip to the one stored by your ROM in /system/media/.
You just put any valid boot animation in /data/local/bootanimations/ - calling it what you wish - and the script will do the rest. You should not try and call all of your boot animations "bootanimation.zip" - you need to give them a unique name.x
Installation
Upon installing the script will automatically back up any custom animation you have in /data/local/ to /data/local/bootanimations/CustomAnimBackup.zip and this animation will be among those randomly selected.
1. Download it from http://d-h.st/s3e
2. Flash from recovery
3. Reboot and enjoy
Hit 'Thanks' below and djmcnz's thread as well.
Single Animation Flag
If you want to view a single animation only you can do so without moving or changing any of the other files.
Simply Create a file called "bootanimation.use" in /data/local/bootanimations/. In this file place a single line with the filename of the boot animation you want to use. For example:
Code:
CustomAnimBackup.zip
When you want to revert to random animations again delete "bootanimation.use" from the directory.
Boot Animation included
Infamous AKOP from Kashper_h
BIOS Animation not sure from who it is, if you know let me know and I will add his credits
Credits
djmcnz - allowing me to republish his work
kasper_h - allowing me to use his bootanimation
rodman01 - my team member
jokubas00 - my team member
Did I missed anyone...PM me and will include him as well

Another little boot animation I made for Omni ROM. To install simply rename to bootanimation.zip, place in system/media folder, and set permissions to rw-r-r.
If you need it in a different size let me know and I'll whip it up

Works fine on XXUFME7 odex if you extract the files and push to appropriate folders (I didn't try flashing the Zip) using a root browser. Remember to backup or rename existing files, set permissions to 6-4-4 on new files and reboot.
I like the boot sound, but went back to the stock S3 boot animation as found the new one a bit garish
Wow!!
Thanks

My phone is running the stock boot animation and bootanimation.zip isn't present.
First off, in system/media/audio/ui I renamed poweron.ogg to poweron.bak and pushed the new sound file to the same location and set permissions to 6-4-4.
Secondly, in system/media I renamed bootsamsung, bootsamsungloop and shutdown qmg files to .bak (the other three files aren't present on my phone) then pushed all six qmg files to the same location, set permissions on all six to 6-4-4 and rebooted.
The new boot animation, boot sound and shutdown animation all worked fine.
EDIT:
You may need to disable custom boot animations first for it to work (ie: no bootanimation.zip).
This thread (see post #5) has files to flash in clockworkmod for enable/disable custom boot animation - I have not personally used it so offer no guarantees but hopefully it will help.

ive tried that and still it comes up as a blank screen when i add my bootanimation? whats your permissions set as?
