[Q] kindle fire 2nd gen(?) /2nd bootloader/recovery - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

A very good friend of mine donated me his Kindle Fire; because he doesn't like it, and OS from Amazon in particular.
I've tried to root the kindle following this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074565; but the process always went with errors, reporting that some files do not exist. I am using NixOS at the moment and I haven't seen Windows since 2000, so please don't send me to Windows-only rooting.
After that, I tried to install 2nd bootloader/recovery, following the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963; but something went wrong. I got blue fire logo, but it never booted and was stuck on the "loading" screen. I let the battery go flat; then charged from the wall charger and booted into normal mode - that went OK.
I am wondering if I have chosen wrong files or made a device identification error?
I know the kindle was bought from Amazon in November 2012 on promotional offer. The device information is the following: system version 10.4.6_user_4620220. Serial number D026 A0A0 2464 01LW.

thats definately a kf2, if it got stuck on the blue logo then maybe you either didnt tell it to go into recovery or you forgot to flash a custom recovery. as long as you have the blue logo i believe you can get into fastboot without a fastboot cable and flash a custom recovery. Or try boting into it with the key combo for kf2 that i don't know of offhand.

Thanks. Perhaps I made a mistake falshing recovery. Fixed now, TWRP works OK.
Now I am stuck with getting a working combination of ROM + GAPPS: Tried
1) cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-otter2.zip + gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip --- get "unfortunately com.android.phone stopped".
2) cm-10.2-20131102-SNAPSHOT-M1-otter2.zip + gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip --- get "unfortunately, android keyboard (AOSP) stopped" Clear data + clear cashe do not solve the problem.
3) cannot flash any cm-11 from download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=otter2&type=snapshot : get message set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed. E: Error executing updater binary in zip 'sdcard/cm-11*/ Error flashing zip 'cm-11-*'.

Something is telling me that TWRP v2.6.3.0 is not compatible with CM11 and Android KK. Is it correct?
Thus I need a working combination of CM10.? and JB GAPPS.

Tried this one early morning today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146030
Flashing was OK, but cannot boot afterwards: get a screen with rotating/flying triangles, nothing else.

Alright, the only combination with CM 10.2 that works at this moment for me is JB 4.3 with CM10.2/SGT7:

The other threads seem to have links incompatible roms/gapps due to updates...

[Q] Bricked Kindle Fire?? HELP!

Okay so basically I decided to root my Kindle Fire. I have rooted my android phone and my iPod before so I wasn't too worried about it, but it's gone horribly wrong and I need major help.
So here's what happened:
I got my root from rootkindlefire.com and followed the necessary steps (i'm running on 6.3.1)
It got halfway through and froze and I stupidly unplugged my kindle
Then it was stuck on this screen with a yellow triangle with a flame in it and at the bottom is said press power button for recovery, but when I pressed it nothing happened
So I went messing around online, in my drivers, etc. I ended up deleting my kindle drivers (like the original ones) and now my kindle is freaking out.
I watched this other tutorial on rootkindlefire.com and tried to follow the steps on how to unbrick it but when I managed to get into the recovery (i can't remember what it's called? blue screen with options like install, mount, reboot, etc.) and put the zip drive he said to, in there... i couldn't see it.
I then downloaded KFU and managed to get my kindle to reboot, but it is now stuck on the "Kindle Fire" screen. I can turn it off, get into recovery, etc. I cannot get it to move past the start up screen however.
I do not believe I am in fastboot, but one of the sites I was on could have misled me. Anyway... HELP! please... I'm sad:/

I followed all the steps and everything worked just like it said....but when my kindle rebooted, it is still stuck at the kindle fire screen but now there's animation...which it did not have before.
Any suggestions?
If your getting animation and it doesn`t go any further this usually indicates a broken system which TWRP are you using ? If you are using 2.3.1.1 there`s a problem with how it formats best you revert to an older version 2.2.2.1 or older then it should work for you. Full wipe except your external storage/sdcard, refalsh rom and gapps. The proper methods for wiping are also provided in the link I gave you.
Very good point though make sure your using the newest version of KFU 9.6 the older version uses burrito root which no longer works on the Kindle Fire. Really though alll you need is a bootloader and recovery rooting is obsolete.

First off, definitely listen to Thepooch and Josepho1997. Next, do you just want a rooted KF running the basic 6.3.1 firmware, or will you be switching to ICS or JB?
Next, is the blue screen you mentioned the TWRP screen? (TeamWin screen with 8 different choices)? If you are, then go to (I think) the bottom right and select mount, then mount system or USB or whatever it says. After that you can add files for a custom ROM or whatever you want through your computer. I forgot to mention that you need to of your KF into your computer.

Help
I have done everything that has been listed here. My kindle is stuck on the kindle fire screen, I can not boot into recovery and I do believe the TWRP that was previously on it, has been removed as well as the OS...My son was messing with it and all I could get out of him was he was on a blue screen and swiped to reboot and he thought it said no OS installed. So, I have the done the Alternate method for rooting, however, when run the kfu, it says its online but boot status is unknown. I can not get it to say any different. What am I doing wrong?

[Q] Kindle will only boot to TWRP

I'm rooting a kindle, and some weird things happened while I was rooting it, problems with rooting on Windows 8, But now that I have TWRP and FIREFIREFIRE installed, it won't let me boot to system. It flashes on and off of the shiny kindle Fire screen, then boots to TWRP. KFU says it is in Boot STatus 0x5003. Any help?

Hello, sorry to bump an old thread, but when I tried to boot into normal boot mode, it tells me "The system cannot find the file specified." I have been stuck in this TWRP recovery mode for so long. Even when I get into Normal Boot mode, how do I get JellyBean installed so it loads that ROM? I have the Jellybean ROM files on the Kindle, which I can access via TWRP, but don't know how to install. HELP!!!
Well, right now I did a factory reset of the Kindle and I was able to get the KF back to it's defaults. I copied the Jellybean .zip file and gapps Jellybean .zip file to the root of the KF. I booted into Recovery Mode and I was finally able to see both .zip files when I clicked on Install. I thought I could do the Permanent Root now that I did the factory reset, but once I ran it under KFU, it would go through the process to install TWRP and then boot the KF into TWRP, but it doesn't look like it completed the root. How do I complete it?
In the meantime, I had went into Recovery Mode, went to Install and currently loading Jellybean onto the KF. I'm currently stuck at Verifiying partition sizes and it's been sitting there for a few minutes. How long does it take before it's updated to JB?
System Only boots to TWRP and KFU will not see kindle
I have a Kindle Fire 1... Not the HD when I got it in Dec of 2011 I got some help to get TWRP and CM7 Installed on it, and it worked great until a couple of days ago and now there is no help in the kindle fire room anymore so I was wondering if there is someone out there who would be willing to help me to get this to work again either through teamviewer or a Chat of some type, Gtalk, IRC anything at this point to get this to work again.
I have tried everything from a Hard reset, and KFU will not see it and I even tried a unbricking tool and that cannot find it either. Please help me out.
Thanks

Stuck booting into TWRP
Hello Forum Lords, I hope that I found the proper thread for my problem.
I was simply trying to install Cyanogemod 9 on my wifes replacement KF1 after the first KF1 suffered some sore of hardware malfunction and would no longer take a charge. Somehow, somewhere I went horribly wrong this time around. I got stuck at the KF1 logo and eventually I got it to boot, but only to recovery.
My predicament is this: My KF1 is stuck booting into TWRP. Device manager on Win Vista recognizes the KF1 as Android Composite ADB Interface. When I try to use the KFU to boot the device into Normal Mode it says "cannot find the drive specified".
At the KFU starting menu, it says ADB Status: Online, Boot Status: 0x5003.
My ultimate goal is to get this thing running Cyanogenmod again. I am painfully noob at all of this. Please speak as you would to an escaped chimp who will not let go of the keyboard and mouse.
Thank you, anybody

You mentioned clean partition flash and pa gapps but you didn't say you flash the cm11 zip. I assume you did? If not there's no os. Twrp will notify if the os isn't there but not sure about safestrap. I'd assume you need to flash it in fastboot now unless there's a button combo that can be utilized.
I'd take this to the cm11 thread. ggow might be able to assist.

That probably IS a good thing. But if there's no OS installed I'd think it would automatically boot to recovery? I've only owned this phone a short time and before last week never used safestrap. Normally I'd either try to boot recovery with a button combo (haven't needed to on this phone.) Or connect via adb and use the command "adb reboot recovery".
I'd say you have a better chance or at least a quicker response if you head over to ggow's thread. Good luck

same problem here: can't start safe stripe and stuck at Amazon. tried to start the phone pressing volume up and power button, see if you can get into the build-in recovery. if it works, you can wipe the data and then use ADB sideload to flash in official rom (should be a bin file, i tried 4.6.1 version) and bring back your phone .

Stuck in bootloop - can see device in adb, unable to reboot to bootloader or twrp

Hi guys,
Pretty much as the title says. I installed a ROM, wasn't to my tastes - so I wiped, flashed a new ROM and associated Gapps and now I am stuck in a bootloop on the Google logo. I can plug my device into my Linux laptop and see the device with adb. If I use logcat, I can see that I am definitely bootlooping, the final part of the stacktrace shows it trying to load some font ttf files.
The interesting part, if I issue "adb reboot bootloader/recovery", I get the "your device's software" warning and then put straight back into the same bootloop. Usually fine with these sorts of things, have been flashing Android ROMs since I have had a HD-2 but this has genuinely stumped me. What can I do guys?

I have the same problem

When you flash your ROMs do you flash vendor and system that match?
Have you tried flashing factory image yet?

Not bricked, but no idea the state it is in? "perfectly android" screen.

Years ago my daughter loaded "perfectly android" rom on this tablet. Recently it no longer boots.
Model 3HT7G
Turning on, you get the Kindle Fire in orange, then screen flashes and you see Kindle Fire in Blue.
Then a strange strip of color down the left side.
Then it sits on a "perfectly android" screen and blanks the screen every few seconds.
It does this until you hard power it down.
Anyone know how to remove this custom ROM and put something modern on there? The "perfectly android" website exists still but most of it doesn't work.
I have a link in email from them where she bought the software back in 2016 the file was called "Perfectly-Android-CM12-HD89-Installer.exe"
The install notes mention TWRP but not the version and the filename suggests Cyanogen Mod does it not?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
seems stuck in TWRP screen loop. the screen I see is just some custom TWRP logo screen from whatever my daughter installed years ago.
ADB nor fastboot seem to respond.
I do see the Kindle in device manager, I installed the SDK and ADB drivers.
Fastboot always just reports <<waiting on device>>
Tried two different USB cables
Any thoughts on how to un loop it?
Best guess is the recovery image is corrupt?
OK, after many attempts I finally got it in to fastboot boot mode, did the recovery steps in the threads on here and I'm back to a fully functioning stock 8.1.4 install (I think that is the image that it recovered to, I can check if it matters the exact stock version).
What is the latest stable modded ROM released for these gen tablets? I think it had CM12 on it before based on the file names.

There isn't really a stable rom for the Jem 8.9. It's mostly nightlies available
Best I used was temasek 13.1 from android file host.
However most of the roms have bugs so I reverted to pre-rooted stock.
I then just Debloated the latest stick rom and installed nova launcher.
After that I binned it and bought a Samsung galaxy tab a 2016 as the Jem was painfully slow
