Does any recovery work with the sm-t217s on 4.4.2 yet? I just took the OTA last night. Everything I'm seeing seems to be for Jelly Bean. I rooted using Towelroot, whichh seemed to work fine. I do seem to keep getting notifications(a shield shape) telling me that apps are trying to access restricted areas of my phone. Everything seems to be working fine, build number checks out, Root Checker says I'm good. I know this device doesn't have a lot of dev support, and that KitKat is fairly new to it. Just wondering if I missed something.
Also my lock screen doesn't have a camera on it. Is that not a thing on the Tab 3 7"?
Edit: looks as though supersu had not yet disabled Knox. After I allowed it to do so, I was able to flash TOP just fine.
I'd still like to know whether the lock screen is supposed to have a camera or not.

Hey all,
Curious if we anyone had seen this issue before. It seems like while my phone is temp rooted it will not connect to anything via bluetooth. It just hangs at the "connecting" phase. It will pair just fine, but not connect. Rebooting the phone and undoing the root allows it to work just fine, but if I temp root it again the same thing happens. Seemed odd, but it is repeatable on my phone and my wifes (both VZW Inc 2s).

Currently the temp-root exploit is known to make other parts fail.
This is quite normal since this should only be used to aquire perm-root. But since there is no possibility go perm-root you can go with the temp-root that will make some things failing. It's anoying I know, but that's all we got right now.
Short info about exploits: they are made for letting the system to do things it is not suposed to do. This generally mean that programs uses parts of the memory it doesn't own, this is why other programs can fail.
So if I reboot it should work fine again?

Yeap, should fix it
Still has issues....

So I have a T-Mo G S3 I purchased unlocked and have been using on Moblicity in Canada with no troubles. I manually checked for updates and got the JB OTA last week. Not sure when, but probably with that update wifi tether has stopped working. If I touch the option it just jumps back to "off", no error or explanation. This is on Moblicity. Moblicity says they have done nothing to disable it, but they won't give me any support to get it working either. I'd understand T-Mo removing this option on their network if they no longer have plans that support it, but disabling it entirely???!!! WTF??!
So, now I wonder. Any chance simply rooting and finding an simple hack will work? Or am I looking at alternative ROMs? The stock hotspot was always flakey, so perhaps an alternative hack/utility will be better anyway.
And if I'm looking to go to a custom ROM, which ones will give me all or most of the factory functionality? This is my daily driver and I need it work 100%. Are any other CM10/JB ROMs fully working? Or will I have to go back to a CM9/ICS ROM to get a stable and fully functional experience. Or perhaps I'd be better off with a Samsung based ROM?? I've done some reading, but I'm completely new to the ROMs for this phone and there are many, so any advice is appreciated.
Tethering would have to fail just as I got a new tablet.
I did get some network settings, perhaps APN settings I can't recall, pushed to my phone by Mobilicity just after I got the JB update. I just blindly accepted them.
Perhaps it's just an APN, thing...
So I realize this isn't on the cutting edge of development, but I come here for info from the experts, and I didn't see any info posted about this OTA push.
So I'm still running stock ROM, rooted for tethering with CWM recovery installed, and I was trying to find some feedback on this update that was pushed OTA. I see vassosman started a topic the other day, but it was quickly closed.
Let me say that I was HATING my phone because scrolling would hang the phone for minutes at random times in the day with random apps and it was maddening! Several times I had to stop myself from throwing it up against a wall.
This OTA update completely fixed it! No need to re-root it either. I love my GS2 again!
So if you were skeptical of the update (I was because one of the listed fixes was "security enhancements" which sometimes means unrooting) I can say that my experience was very positive. I'm sure I probably should have connected to Kies and installed this update long ago. Life happens. I'm behind. I'm posting for others that are behind as well.
Does the LI4 update provide even more worthy fixes? Will I have problems with CWM installed?

Nope, as you stated it mostly had security improvements, but I doubt it affected rooting methods. People have reported that the normal methods to root the old firmwares still work on this one. So overall it wouldn't harm CWM or TWRP while using it, though you have to obviously reflash it

Im on stock li4, rooted using supersu and twrp 2.4. The same old rooting methods apply, no rules changed. Happy flashing!

I figured I would just add my experience in this thread.
My wife's completely stock GS2 had OTA updated to LI4 2 days ago and last night the phone shut off while in the middle of a call and will not power back on. No odin, no recovery. Nothing. Had to warranty exchange.
It doesn't seem widespread as I have not seen this reported elsewhere, but my wife is a mild user and was only using the most basic of apps. I think she was using Google Talk and Messaging and the Phone app at the time.
So I pulled down the OTA for my phone the other day, it installed perfectly fine. I'm fully stock.
First thing I noticed was that my NFC was no longer working. I can't turn it on in the settings, it sits there trying to turn on, but won't. I was working before the update as I have NFC tags in my cars setup to turn on Bluetooth and all that.
Has anyone had issues with NFC after the OTA? Note that I also performed a factory wipe to see if that might fix the issue with no luck!
Side question, how have others found battery life to be? So far to me, seems worse than before, but I'll give it a good week to see for sure.
Thanks!
This is why I think its such a phenomenal fail on AT&T's part for not providing the stock firmware! Normally I would suggest flashing the stock firmware via Odin. Im working on getting an Odin flashable built for you guys, so keep an eye out for it. Once its done and confirmed working, flash it and factory reset. Ill try to post something tonight.
took longer than expected(about a full minute) but both NFC and S beam turn on eventually, couldnt test it, i dont have another nfc capable device
Works for me. I could pass a picture between my wife's nexus4 to my s3 via nfc.
So no worries.

Hi all, pretty much at the end of the line trying to fix this.
I bought the phone at the end of November, and immediately rooted it, S-OFF etc. The first ROM I tried was Android Revolution HD, and everything worked fine, except for the GPS. It enables, and using an app like GPS Test says I can see 27 satellites or whatever depending where I am. However, it just won't get a fix and lock on. Using Google Maps, it just says 'waiting for location', but never locks on.
So, I recently tried the ViperRom (android 4.4.4), but same issue.
So, I thought I'd put everything back to stock. I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235, and all the flags in the bootloader look as they should. Stock ROM also.
Still no luck.
So I tried converting it to a Google Play Edition running Lollipop 5.01, using this thread and the links graffixnyc provided.
Again, everything works, but the same GPS problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions..? I can't think of anything else to do
Thanks for any help!
Following this I've tried some different radio versions to see if it makes a difference, and on some I don't pick up any satellites at all. Something to note is that GPS Test picks up satellites inside as well, which makes me think it's not actually picking anything up...
In no cases can I get a fix
If you tryed all of that... you would think its probably a hardware issue
That is what I'm thinking now, just wondering if anyone had a magic solution I hadn't thought of! Really like the phone otherwise
