[Q] "Android OS" / "Android system" : High Data Usage, HELP please
Greettings to all of u
Posting this problem is my last effort to solve the problem of the huge data comsumption by "Android OS" ((or "Android system"[is the same thing, depends on the custom room u use]))
I have a gnex i9250 maguro
Right now i have "CARBON-KK-NIGHTLY-20140629-0300-maguro" custom room instaled (wich reports this high data comsuption as "Android system")
But i had "cm-11-20140629-NIGHTLY-maguro" before Carbon and it reported this high data comsuption as "Android OS"
I've come to realize that is not the room wich is draining data
Neither are youtube videos, or data sync, nor google backup
I've tried all the ways to stop this
There are several post refering to this, such as:

I must mention that i've already tried
Turn off OTA updates: by disabling "Receiver com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService" in "Google Services Framework" with titanium backup, Autostarts, Room tollbox and disable service [didnt work, i suppose is due that this solution is for the "Google Services" high data comsuntion, wich is another issue (there are lots of other posts related to this)]
I've also tried ""Disable OTA updates on Stock + Rooted ROMs"" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249350)
doesnt work neither
Last month i lost 150mb from "Android OS" from my plan wich i cant afford to loose cuz now i have 300mb available
right now im staying at home and using wifi, but "Android OS" ((or "Android system")) it's still getting data from the wifi
As u can see, i've been through all these posts, but didnt come to a solution
does anyone knows what else can i do?
maybe there's a solution i never came across with.
Thank U guys
PD: i dont have pics from my huge data comsumption, but i'll post the screenshots of my fellows in this issue

[Q] Help - System apps chewing up excessive data

For the last couple of week my phones system apps have been using appx 10-15Mb per day in 3G data and I have no idea why.
It's chewing up most my allowance and I'm going to have to disable the APN soon if I can't find out what's causing it.
I know it's a system app as i'm using TrafficStats Lite but it doesn't tell me exactly what the source of the problem is. It lists the below under the section that is causing me the problem:
Contracts Storage
Dialer
People
com.android.providers.applications
Plugin sample
com.android.providers.userdictionary
Hi,
first of all try market://search?q=pname:com.curvefish.apps.trafficinfo
shows trafffic per app
maybe you try to disable background sync?
a other option would be droidwall, so you can enable every app that should get internet access and the others wont get it - needs root.
cya
TrafficInfo doesn't give me any better info than TrafficStats Lite.
Also, disabling background sync doesn't tell me why the system is suddenly using up 10-15mb a day when it has never used anything like that in the 10months i've had it.
Droidwall will be useful in the short term until I can find out why my system apps are using so much data though.
Thanks.
Hi,
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but since a month or so I have been noticing the exact same thing on my HTC Legend. Got a 500MB monthly limit, never got even close to consuming it all... but in November, data usage got crazy and I hit the limit.
3G Watchdog shows me these apps as the top data consumer: "People", "com.android.providers.userdictionary", "Dialer", "Contacts Storage" and "com.android.providers.applications". These all show up as one combined entry, and for example have consumed 9MB only yesterday.
Anyone know what exactly is going on here?
Thanks for any advice,

Apps killing my battery

I have noticed exsessive battery drain recently (%50 overnight), I have installed Battery Info thats telling me the mjority of battery drain is from:
"Mobile tracker + Settings+ Factory Mode + TMserverApp + MTP application"
I cant seem to find out what "Mobile Tracker" "TMserverApp" are from google searches, I cant disable either of these from the application manager to even test if they are the main problem.
I understand MTP is used for file transfers, this I have only used very minimally so dont think this is the cause for battery drain.
Not sure what factory mode does or is?
My S3 is standard from Optus, Android version 4.0.4
Any ideas?
No one knows what any of these apps do/are? Woke up to a competely dead battery today from about 60% last night.
Just install a copy of Titanium Backup Free and Backup, then uninstall those apps if you are rooted.

Mobile Tracker is Samsung's tracking service I believe (i.e. if your phone is lost or something).
As was mentioned, install Titanium Backup. Instead of uninstalling, freeze those apps instead - it's less intrusive and ICS compatible. also, if you ever find a need for these, all you have to do is un-freeze (or "defrost") them.
Search for better battery stats on xda this will give you more detailed information about what is causing your battery drain. Sounds like you have a wakelock, as previously mentioned identify the offending apply and freeze it with titanium backup.

"OS Services" hogging up data

Hi,
Im using - Jelly Bean AOKP by vijendra (4.1.2) on my Desire. To keep a close watch on the data usage, I installed an app - "My Data Manager".
I've been tracking my usage since Jan 1, and I'm surprised to see "OS Services" use 410 MB (40%) of data!! Something has to be wrong here. People are saying that we should try disabling Sync! But that will sort of defeat my purposes of keeping a smartphone. I also checked under Settings > Data usage: It says "Google Services" used 74.22 MB in the same period, all of which in the background.
I've disabled my Backup (under Settings) and also turned off Browser Sync (as recommended by some) with no luck. Can this be a ROM issue? It certainly can not be normal for an Android phone to hog up so much data!
Looking for some help or answers!
Thanks guys!
Hey! Im having the same problem!!!
Not only it abuses data but it drains down the battery too

[Q] process "delete apps" is chewing up data

Hey, pretty new to xda so forgive if my question has been asked before, and replied to with a solid answer. I looked but could not find any.
I have been messing around in my S3 settings as of late debating if for "kicks & giggles" trying something different and rooting it. The main reason for that is because I have become tired of preloaded, unneeded, & unwanted bloatware continuing to run in the background. But more for the reason I can't stand not being given the options to remove/ delete what I don't want on a phone I dropped money on to make it mine. With that being said I enjoy tinkering with electronics so I've gone into the manage app settings and disabled all of the unneeded system apps that is allowed.
My question is when going into my "data settings" I click on data usage and in there I noticed a single process or factory app always running in the background called "delete apps" this particular process I could not find in the "manage application> all applications" because I was wondering if it too could be stopped & disabled. The thing about this process is it seems to use my data plan more than I do ea. & every month, I was completely unaware that it could easily chew through 100's of MB's off my data plan without knowing. What made it even more interesting when I selected to see if it had the ability to connect to my (WiFi) when in range it chewed 36 Gigs in a months time... I have googled the process name and have read some threads where others are seeing the same thing but died out because none could give a definite answer so that is what lead me to try xda. I have called my carrier on it (they seemed more confused over it than I). So I guess what I'm asking here is would anyone happen to know what this process is? Sure I know certain apps need to run in the background.. but one that can chew through 37 Gigs of data in a month has got me stumped.

"Android OS" using gigabytes of traffic

Hi all,
Android OS seems to be using about a gigabyte a day of WiFi traffic. Does anyone what this might be, could it be a false reading, and could you guys please check if you have similar readings. (Under Mobile Data, enable Show Wi-Fi usage in the menu).
I've searched for the solution already and people mentioned Google backup, auto-uploading of photos, various syncing or uploading services etc... And all of that is disabled since I've never used it. I'm not noticing anything else suspicious including battery life so I'm pretty confused right now.
Thanks.
