We all wait for an update, since Samsung released this Tab last year, our last hope are gr8nole to make a CM11.

WTF Samsung.... Why?

Every time I buy a new phone with the latest Android on it, they release a new android a few weeks later. ..4.3 had only been out a short time and barely no phones have it.. And now there's 4.4....pissed....
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
We won't see it for months
NOTE 3
You wanted Samsung to delay the Note 3 release so they could put 4.4 on it? dafuq
If you want the latest android updates fastest buy a nexus device
I was on the same upset mood as you with android. However, with the note 3, I have no complain anymore. I haven't had any lag at all since purchase a month ago. It has all the features you need and more. I can finally stop chasing newest and greatest device/software with the note 3.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Yup, and that's the choice you have to make when buying a non-Nexus device. Either put up with the outdated stock ROMs or switch to AOSP-based ROMs like Cyanogen, then you will have the latest and greatest. Samsung likely won't put out a 4.4 ROM till sometime in the spring.
I knew there would be a post like this, and I thought about doing it (sarcastically)...
...Face it, anytime you buy a new android phone, at most the new android version is maybe a year away, no matter what phone you get... (unless nexus) there is going to be a period of time where you dont have the latest and greatest software...
...but, it has been floating around that AOSP roms are in the process of being brought to note 3 (I think by cyanogenmod) and once the first (not to buggy) one comes out, the offshoots wont be far behind (PA/AOKP/carbon *my fave*) now, of course we dont know for sure if any of those will ever come to note 3, but more than likely pa and aokp will (I would think) and it just a matter of time.
so, there is hope for 4.3 (aosp) and 4.4 coming to our note 3 before samsung even gets a chance...
Now this is where it gets really interesting, samsung and HTC are trying to one up each other, or at least that is how it seems to me, and htc said that the HTC ONE will have 4.4 within 90 days... and that phone is much older than the note 3. so hopefully for once sammy will try to beat them to the punch.
Im sure that at SOME point note 3 will have kit kat, just a matter of time.
Oh, and this is what samsung has to say about 4.4 right now
btw, I kind of feel the same way, but its not like it wasnt expected. cant be mad about something you basically knew was going to happen.
my hope is that samsung will do the google play note 3 thing, but with the spen being the "main" feature of note 3, and google play edition would cut that out, its highly unlikely that would happen, but one can dream

We won't see 4.4 til next year. Maybe January-February. Samsung is still going to be pushing the Note 3, since their "curved display" phone won't have similar specs of the note 3 anyways. Note 3 and S4 will see the updates first of course...
You dont buy samsung note devices for the quick updates, you buy them for their originality and beast like specs/software. If your looking for updates go with the nexus line otherwise you only have yourself to blame.

THIS IS TRUTH......... The other thing I find amusing is 4.4 is not that much different than 4.3 I have played around on my tablet with it and TBH...... I would not get that excited about it. :cyclops:

I can't find the source but I read that the S3/S4/Note2/Note3 will be getting 4.4 in November because they want to ensure compatibility with their new watch.
Dumbest first world problem ever. Note3 has been out a month and 4.4 has been out 2 days of which I don't even know if source has been released yet. Imagine the horror if Samsung released the Note3 with 4.2.2!

True. Just for clarity though, source is available from news reports anyway. I haven't tried to sync it. Also, I expect Samsung has access to pre release source along with moto, HTC, and other partners.
Honestly though, 4.4 doesn't bring a ton. These days, new point releases of Android aren't nearly as big a deal as they used to be. I'll likely give it a try once builds are available, but I'm quite happy with the version on the note 3. I would like to see all the manufacturer's up their game though, if for nothing else than security patches. There's no excuse for the "master key" patch taking as long as it did to get released. And that's equally on the carriers.

Absolutely true! If I wanted the latest Android, I wouldn't buy such a heavily skinned device like the Note! The GS4 might see KitKat before spring, but if the Note does before next Christmas I'll be very pleasantly surprised.

It's barely even a year old so well within the supposed 18 month window, just wait until they have the Tab 4's out then they will likely release it after those have been out a while so as not to interfere with their sales.
It's been said as much that the Tab 3's are in line to receive the 4.4 KitKat update, they may well only end up releasing it for the 8.0, 10.0 & the Sprint version of the 7.0
So until Samsung out right say it's not getting it, then it's coming.

Yeah it's listed on their own site, although they don't specify which models.
The Note 8.0 just got KitKat (also on that list) pretty much out of the blue the other week, I will be very surprised if the Tab 8.0 (& I guess 10.0) don't get it, it's the 7.0 I'd be more doubtful about.
Tab 3 8.0 has 1.5GB RAM, it shouldn't really be an issue, but I think it's time Samsung trimmed their bloatware down, I use none of it.
cousin's almost new tab 3 8.0 is showing a weird problem.
sometimes the screen stop responding and only way is to press power to turn off screen and back on and touch starts working again.
what you guys think, a hardware problem in line or just a software glitch.
tab is full stock and not been rooted.

THe 4.4.2 runs well. Also the AOSP versions of 4.4.4 work fine too.
If its ok, could you please give an overview of the new rom, what's new and whats missing from the old rom that might make someone consider whether to upgrade or not. This site is fantastic, one thing that is usually difficult though is finding basic rom change related info , more often than not its how to root a new rom with no details of the changes, and some people are only cosidering change. Thanks. (I believe side loading flashplayer is now impossible ?) Thanks again.

Android "L"

Google has announced new Android "L" yesterday... will it come to our Note3 Neo???:fingers-crossed:
Please give your opinion about new UI for this Android "L"

it won't most probably.. sammy doesn't give more than one major update to phones which aren't flagships (S & note series- not Neo)..
we'll get KitKat within the next couple of months hopefully! then we will be dependent on devs for further updates.
PS- next android version is lollipop if I'm not wrong..

It will be updated to l i think beacuse it was launched in feb and there is google policy for 18 months and it was launched with 38k price tag and note 2 is discontinued at that place
n3n is selling it is not finalized yet but i will be finalized later i think take a look at screenshot.

it is good in nexus 5 and waiting for ours..
I sometimes wish that I hadn't bought this phone . I could never whole heartedly enjoy my phone since somewhere I knew there are very few chances of this phone being updated. I still wonder how samsung manages to still sell so much without timely updates for all of its devices. Not buying samsung again probably for the next few years until I see an improvement
Will stick to sony or Motorola or nexus series next time
This phone would no way get updated to Android L this year. May be six months from now in 2015 after Note 3 gets updated .
Even Nexus devices (Nexus 5) no longer get updates quick . It's all a matter of time

Android Lollipop?

Do you think the tab 3 would get lollipop?
Officially? Doubt it for Tab 3, the Tab 4's might.
Unofficially? I hope so... fingers crossed...
they should
Samsung provides support fot devices two years after their release, tqb 3 was launched on july 2013, so we should be getting the update

Samsung probably won't release Lollipop for the Tab 3. They might, but based off of Samsung's history with devices -- especially lower end devices -- I would say probably not. I was actually surprised to see Samsung update the T210R to Android 4.4.2. I don't think they will do any more updates.
As for community porting, it is a possibility. However, it seems to be moving slowly. Your best bet here is to help that effort by testing or writing code or filling in random bits of information.
Speaking as someone who is trying to port Cyanogenmod to the Tab 3 (7.0), its a little harder than it looks. That said, I haven't spent time on it recently, so YMMV.
I think that Gr9nole has done a fair job with the porting work, but I haven't been able to get his stuff working with Cyanogenmod. It might be that I'm using an unsupported version of Java. Even with Lollipop, my version of java is not supported (Java 1.8). And I don't really feel like installing Java 1.7.
Nope unless some brave chap will build it from source. If we are lucky it might be on AOKP or Cyanogenmod
I have a TAB 3 10" stock, but I barely use it, since it is so laggy. Is there any ROM or MOD that could make it faster?
I really don't think anyone will build from source cm 11 development Is taking a while at least that should be ready for this tab. May not get lollipop
we can only hope. like was said i remember sammy saying two years was the update period. i would think companies like sprint and att and tmobile who are still giving these away for free might help us. they should want the newest os to help push them. tmobile on the 7in. got 4.4.4 i am on sprint 7in which is still on 4.4.2 but there was a small update recently. so hopefully development is still going.
Erm..... no I think lollipop won't be on Galaxy Tab 3 devices since they closed source unless someone do it by scratch.

Time to jump ship?

I haven't seen any development for nk3, besides effortless. I really love my note 3 and feel like it can still hang, but is it time to jump ship and move on? Or will development pick up again, after Christmas?
Until there is a substantial update to say 5.0 there won't be much more they can do and updating the base to another Ota doesn't really do much. I'm sure there will be a few things going on after we get that next big jump.
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
My NK3 Rom isn't out yet (close though ), but I updated the guides to prep a while ago.
I think most developers are waiting until lollipop.. and I'm sure many people are getting a Note 3 for Christmas.
It's a lot of work and T-Mobile released three updates in a very short time. Now it's the holidays, so some down time for devs and families.
It's pretty slow on the Note 4 side as well. Hopefully Samsung can get LP out during quarter 1 '15 to kick some development off again.
I, too, think that most of the new developments will be for lollipop. And I can't wait. My effortless ROM has been awesome at keeping my Note 3 feeling like new (even though I've been getting random shutdowns lately). I'd like to thank Effortless for all the work he's done. Patiently waiting to see what you do next.
