[Q] M8 GPE Problems - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, very much a noob at these things but I got an m8 and successfully rooted, unlocked and got s-off. I got GPE flashed and it worked but the no reception! I've seen other posts around the web suggesting that I do something with the radio file but I really have no idea. Tried flashing a backup I found on the forum with no luck either. I didn't make a stock rom backup (except in the HTC sense.app).
Any advice?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply, with vodafone australia. This is what my bootloader screen says:
*** unlocked ***
m8_ul pvt ship s-off
cid-11111111
hboot-3.18.0.0000
radio-1.14.21331931.la02_2g
opendsp-v32.2.2-00542-m8974.0213
os-
emmc-boot 2048mb
I tried to follow a guide (can't link it but it's titled "How to Convert Your HTC One M8 into a Google Play Edition") and then trying to fix it I have no rom installed, just TWRP.
Thanks again

3.18 hboot is gpe so you actually converted. You can try to flash other gpe roms, but converting back to sense has a few steps.

Should I reflash the GPE rom before I follow this guide? Will it matter that I don't have a functioning android rom installed right now?

Sure, can't really hurt anything. I would try sinless. It is a highly rated gpe rom with a developer who lives in the forums and really cares about his releases.

You might need to get a vodafone radio if that doesn't work. I'm sure someone here has one for you.

Most radios are flashable through recovery, it should say how to flash it, but GPE should work fine as long as you are gsm. You probably just need to change the apn settings to match vodafone.

also, if you go back to sense and need stock backup…

Yeah I saw that thread but couldn't really understand it.
I followed the instructions to replace the RUU (it worked), so I should be okay to flash the sinless rom now?

Replace the RUU? Not sure what you mean by that. You can flash gpe roms on a gpe or sense based firmware. The only reason you can't flash sense roms on GPE firmware is because partitions are too small. I would convert back to sense, then flash whatever you want. No advantage to having converted phone as most gpe rom developers release updates just as quick as google.

[Q] What HBOOT do i need to update my HTC One M8?

Hi,
I'm going to upgrade my rooted and unlocked HTC One M8 International version (From Norway, not a Sprint, Verizon or any american brand) to a custom Android 4.4.4 ROM, but what HBOOT and radio version should I download?
If you know, can you give me a download link to both of them?
As of now I want to flash this ROM, do I need to update my HBOOT or anything else using ClockWorkMod?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744448
The phone is unlocked with HTC Dev, but what is the difference between S-On and S-Off?
Information about the phone from recovery if needed, don't really know what you need:
Got a 4.4.3 stock ROM installed which is rooted and ClockWorkmod v6.0.4.8
M8_UL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.18.0.0000
RADIO-INVALID_VER_INFO (Probably the stock radio installed).
OPENDSP-INVALID_VER_INFO
OS- eMMc-BOOT 2048MB
Just tell me if you need more information.
Thanks

With bootloader unlocked, you can install custom recovery, root (obviously, since already have) and flash ROMs. S-off is only required for certain things. However, changing the hboot is one of them (unless you do so by "official" means like OTA); as well as flashing the radio and SIM unlock.
I'm not an AOSP user, so hopefully someone who is can answer your other questions (required hboot, radio, etc.)

Are you sure? Because the hboot for 4.4.4 is 3.19, not 3.18.
I know on Sense based ROMs you need the 4.4.4 firmware which comes with the hboot.

AFAIK, in general HTC's firmware changes only affect Sense ROMs, not AOSP.
Although, its a always a good idea to see if a particular AOSP ROM requires a particular hboot. There is no blanket yes/no answer to this question IMO and its a good idea to do your research when flashing a particular ROM.

Quite sure you can, just find the VZW 4.4.3 firmware and flash it then flash a 4.4.3 ROM. Or if there is a 4.4.3 RUU you could do that as it'll flash everything including firmware, ROM, etc.
You need to be S-OFF to flash firmware or do an RUU though.

Its not clear what you or the OP are asking exactly. If the intent is to "downgrade" to run firewater, then NO you can't do it.
If already s-off, just flash the desired firmware by fastboot and restore a stock nandroid.

This kinda sucks. Broke my original M8 and the replacement came with 4.4.4 on it so I'm stuck with a stock HTC phone. I want my GPE 5.0 ROM back! Stupid Verizon.

I am stuck on firmware 3.28.1540.5 on HTC ONE M8. I have unlocked version with root and TWRP. I do not have S-OFF. Please help me when I check for updates nothing new.
I am trying to flash custom rom ARHD and it says I NEED 3.28.401.9

Basically, you have Developer Edition firmware. ARHD is based on Sense firmware. If you want to go to Sense 3.28.401.9, you will have to flash a WWE RUU.

You don't NEED 3.28.401. You just need a 3.x based firmware, and if you are on 3.28.1540, that is fine as well.
In fact, if you are in the US and/or AT&T is your carrier, the 3.28.1540 plays better with the AT&T network.

[Q] Need help returning to stock on my hon kong htc one m8

So I purchased the phone from somone, but the person who sold the phone to me also had a previous owner who rooted the phone and installed a rom. So as I deleted all the files for the person, something must have happened because ever since then, the wifi is not responding. It cannot search any routers nor does it turn on. So I am trying to return the phone to stock condition, but the process was a bit too hard for me to understand. Can someone explain it a bit easy for someone who does not know a lot about HTC devices and rooting?
So far, when I enter recovery mode, I get
Tampered Unlocked M8UL PVT SHIP S-OFF CID-HTC_622 HBOOT-3.16.0.0000 RADIO-1.16.21331831.A16G OpenDSP-v38.2.2-00542-M8974.0311 OS- eMMC-boot 2048MB May 20 2014
I think I wiped the recovery program(TWRP) or something because all I get is a red triangle with an exclamation point. I had done the getvar but I did not get any info in the main version part. So far I have installed the Maximus HD 9.0.0 rom. The radio is fine. Text, phone call, data all seems to work, but the only thing that is not working is the wifi. What steps should I take to return the phone to stock so that I don't have to worry about rooting and stock roms? As always, thanks for the feedback everybody! I had so much help from you guys!

You will never get an OTA on a custom ROM. The problem is your model (Hong Kong). I'm not sure if you will be able to find stock backups or an RUU to return to stock to take the OTAs.
Hook up the phone to your PC, start up ADB/fastboot, and issue the command fastboot getvar all and post the readout here. I'll see if I can find something for you to return to stock. Edit out the serial no and IMEI from the readout for your own security.

The RUUs aren't from Google, they are from HTC. I'm not sure if you'll find one for the Hong Kong model or not. The same applies for returning to stock using the stock ROM and recovery backups that are available here. You could also update your firmware manually since you are S-Off, but until I see a getvar, I can't point you in the right direction.

Okay. The link I provided in my last post has a stock backup for you. Choose the ones from CID HTC_622. You will need the one for 1.60.708.2 and the TWRP version for it installed in your phone. Put it into your backup folder and flash it. (full instructions are on that thread) Then you will need to flash the stock recovery from that thread. I couldn't find one to match. You might have to look elsewhere. You will be able to get the OTAs after that.
Or you could change to SuperCID (lots of instructions for that on XDA) and change your MID (Model ID, also lots of instructions here ~ change to 0P6B10000), then update manually with WWE firmware. You may be able to run WWE without changing your MID, but I can't confirm that. My MID is 0P6B12000, and I was able to flash international WWE firmware myself. Hope this helps.

Hi! After some searching, I have found the file, but I am not really sure on what to do. The link that you provided me really did not explain a lot. I am a bit confused on the part where I got the zip, but don't know really what to do. I got the zip that you wanted me, the HTC 622 one with the 1.6.0XXX and you told me to put it in a recovery folder(?). Do I have to put it in there or is it something I can flash right off my sd card? Is the zip something that I put in the TWRP folder? I really tried to google it, but all I get is how I can use RUU on H BOOT to install TWRP or something. Thanks for the help.
Edit 1. Sorry, I forgot to mention the zip! The stock nandroid backups. I got that, but the recovery that you mentioned, I really got lost trying to look for it. Is it possible to just flash the nandroid backup without the boot loader locked but S-off with the TWRP and get the stock ROM?

Okay. So I did a little research and came up with an official HTC RUU for your phone. As far as I know, it is the latest for the Hong Kong version (4.4.3). I say as far as I know because I don't deal with HK versions very often here.
Hook up to your PC and get into ADB/fastboot.
Download the official RUU from HTC's website by clicking here.
When the download is finished, double click it and choose run, (it's an .exe formatted file) then follow the prompts.
But please relize that running the RUU will WIPE EVERYTHING, so backup anything that you have that you don't want to lose.

There's a button for that thanks.
When I click on the link I get a .zip file with two .tar.gz files inside. No exe file. Am I missing something?

[Q] S-On How do I return to Stock

Hey guys as the Title says I'm Currently S-On, Rooted and Running ARHD 22.1 on my One M8 Euro/International which is Unlocked Using 3.401.9 firmware.
How do I go about returning everything to Stock as the Guide I have found assumes I have S-off which I dont/cant do due to it saying device incompatible.
Any helps much appreciated
Anyone Able to help as I really don't Fancy having a Bricked Handset
My guide needs S-OFF for some parts but the rest can be followed if you're S-ON. There is an RUU ZIP which might also work for you, so perhaps give that a go...
you'll have to relock the bootloader if you are s-on and then flash an RUU for your phone model to return to stock

You don't need a backup if it's an EU M8 as we have the RUU ZIP - why bother with anything else?

Ok thanks I'll give it ago when I'm home its so I can receive OTA Updates as currently I'm unable to S-Off with Sunshine " Device Incompatible" apparently it will be addressed in V3. But as lollipop is rolling out I might as well go back to stock and update.
Thanks for your Help much appreciated

Is it a case of doing it in this order, Relocked the Bootloader and then Flash the RUU?
