I can't boot into fastboot mode from my xperia play r800i in order to iinstall a cfw (xElite Gamer rom). Anyone know why? Flash tool say's the device will enter fastboot mode soon but it just reboots without going into anything.

Question about installing kernel

I was trying to installing arcknight kernel..
And by doing this you have to go fastboot which i believe is turning off ur phone and plug the usb while holding the back key after that u have to type fastboot flash boot (name of kernel.img) and it says waiting for device.. ive been waiting for like 10 minutes nd nothings happening..my phone remains black but the led is green..sometimes changing to blue then back to green..
Am i forgetting something or skipped a process?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA Premium App
no,if you do that using flashtool you have not to hold the back key.after your phone is connected being recognized by flashtool you have to chose fastboot mode then reboot in fastboot mode(via ADB) that willsend your phone in to fastboot mode then you can select a kernel to flash it!
Fastboot is hold options button and led goes blue.
If Ied is green your are in flash mode.

Yah.. when i connect the phone its green..so im in the flash mode.. but how to go in fastboot? I followed the steps correctly but still in green..
So by the fastboot i will hold the OPTION KEY instead of back key while connecting the usb?
Can u teach me the exact instructions and its every detail?
DO i need my bootloader to be unlocked?
Sent from my LT18i using XDA Premium App
first of all is your bootloader unlocked or not custon kernels cannot be installed on locked bootloaders.
so if its unlocked press menu key and and attach cable to enter fast boot mode and then u can flash custom kernel by cmd line method or flashtool ( more convenient IMHO) .
for archnight kernel after u flash kernel u need to flash WiFi modules in CWM.

Do you need an unlocked bootloader to use fastboot?

Ive been trying to get fastboot to work on my phone for weeks, no methods on this site have worked. Ive tried another pc with windows 7 and its the same story. I have rooted my phone but I kept the bootloader locked. Is an unlocked bootloader an necessity for fastboot or am I missing something?

you must have the fastboot and flashmode drivers installed on your pc ,and the xperia s drivers also.....
you enter fastboot when you turn off your phone and you have to press volume up while you connect your usb to pc and you see a blue led .....
i assume fastboot is working before you unlock your bootloader as you unlock the bootloader using fastboot...
what do you want fastboot?

I want fastboot to install custom roms on my device. I could use a hand getting the drivers to work.
My system is windows 8 which is know there is issues with but i have tried:
Plugging phone in while holding volume button.
Lights comes on green and windows sees the device.
Right click and click update.
Select the drivers and select bootloader interface
plug the phone back in and click next
Then the update fails.
Any thoughts?
You need to disable driver signature verification. Do an advanced restart from windows 8, from there there is an option to disable it. After that you should be able to install the drivers fine.

You can not unlock the bootloader without fastboot.
Some phones can access fastboot some are locked out. Chances are, if you paid a discount price through your carrier, your phone has fastboot blocked. If you bought the unlocked full price version you should have access.
You can check if the phone can access fastboot. With the phone off, press volume up and plug into a charger/pc. Do you get the blue led on phone? If no blue led then pc drivers won't help.

Thanks for your help, the light is green so im guessing I dont have fastboot. Is there any other ways I can install custom roms to my phone? Or un block fastboot?
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
I have the same problem! im so sad, im going to seel this one and buy an unlocked one.
If you are with windows 8 connect your phone by an usb 2.0 port. This solve your problem. Fastboot, flash mode and software like Emma, flashtool doesn't support usb 3.0 with windows 8.
Best regards
Look the end of that post

Make sure your pressing the volume up button to enter fastboot mode, blue led. If you press the down button you should get the green led for flash mode. They are different modes. Flash mode is for .ftf files. Fastboot is for .sin files.
From the dialer enter *#*#service#*#* or *#*#7378423#*#* then click on configuration. This will tell you if you can unlock or not.

Then no fastboot. My AT&T branded Ion is this way. When I do the service code in previous post, configuration shows bootloader unlockable NO. Means no official unlock, no unofficial way yet to unlock at all

I know it's a pain to do but have you tried returning to stock and starting all over again?I take that flashmode works? That's what I would do if it happened on my phone:good:
EDIT Try disable antivirus
The real question is: have you run flashtool or the command line in "administrator mode"?

Did you even unlocked bootloader?
And how? Via Sony's site or testpoint method? And what is your model? R800i,a,x?
What do you mean you don't have access to flashmode or boot?
You go to fastboot mode by powering off phone, holding "search" and plug it in pc.
You go to flasmode mode by powering off phone, holding "back" and plug it in pc.

You can use the kernel from Android Original Dev Section, But before that, you need to Backup your TA Partition and then Unlock the bootloader if you wish to have a custom kernel and/or a recovery..
