Addition of the Canadian Carriers to this forum

To Canadian owners of the I747 GS3, welcome to your new home! XDA has officially added your devices to this forum! As such, let's all work to make the moderators' and developers' jobs easier by doing the following:
Threads: Would all of you who have started threads in the previous forum that relate to Rogers, Bell, or Telus, please indicate in bold in the thread title that it should be moved here and specify which section you want it moved to.
Update - 07/30/2012: There are still a number of Rogers/Bell/Telus specific threads in the old section without any direction to move them. If you are the OP to any of these threads, please edit the titles to reflect which carrier and section they apply to so that they will be moved to the appropriate new section. Development: Being added to this forum does not mean that anything has magically changed from the previous forum relating to compatibility of your device. If, for whatever reason, an AT&T mod was not safe to flash before, it is still not safe to flash! Continue to read the OP, search, and post in the thread, if you are unsure whether something is safe to install on your device. You alone are responsible for the health of your device, so please exercise that responsibility fully.
If there is anything else that you feel should be added to this thread, or you have any questions, please feel free to either send me a PM, or post in the thread below.
This change was definitely the right decision, as most of us are already spending the majority of our time on this thread, given the almost identical nature of our phones. Looking forward to working with our US GS3 colleagues in building the great community this has the potential to be!

So far I see no problems with AT&T mods and rogers. Some minor issues. But would be nice to have our own section

This is our section. Without our at&t friends, development would be a 10th of what it is now. As we pretty much have the same phone, this is the best structure for all i747 owners.

Chances of this being split again is very thin.

If you are on rogers, you are using the latest modem as there have not been any updates.

I think the only gripe I have about att roms is being unable to switch from lte to 3g to edge.
More often than not, I find myself surfing on edge.

From what I've been reading, you can do the update over Kies even if your phone doesn't notify you.

That is correct. I updated, no problems, through kies. I then re-rooted using the Samsung Rom toolbox to flash cwm through Odin, and superuser through cwm. Finally, set the trip counter back to zero with the triangle away app (you can get it through Google Play). The whole process was flawless.
Update upgrades us to the latest modem, LH1, way faster lte speeds. Also some other minor ui changes to the stock messaging app and browser.

What! So upgrading will lose root access?
What per se is Samsung Rom toolbox if you don't mind me asking, is that JRummy's Rom Toolbox you're referring to?
Sounds like a bit of a process, I was so proud of myself to finally tackle installing cwm via adb. Now that was all for nothing?! Dang...care to post a few more details and links for those who are still a little shy of turning their phone into a brick? Pretty please.

No i9300 is the international S3.. AT&T S3 is i747 model

No its not meant for the ATT model. If your trying to trick or be funny, bricking a phone isnt funny since flashing this software will probably do that. Please, joking about flashing the wrong software is not a good idea. Development isnt a joking matter.
If you were serious, i wish you read the model number of the att phone and the model number in the article.

I'm coming from being a heavy htc user. What is the benefits of having these files. What can these files do that source code cannot?

This is the bone stock file that. Ame loaded on the phone. These will fix most problems people run in to. They have the modem, system, bootloader, and cache.

So odin files is to Samsung as ruu is to htc? Any hope for multi task screen Or should I not count on it?

I believe so. These are exactly what came on the phone. So no multitasking yet.

Yup, just like an RUU. It won't really have anything to do with multiview, but with the files available, devs can get a little more creative and try new things without worrying about having no way to bring the phone back if they mess up. So that could potentially get people working on multiview.

I have Kies now what
I have Kies and the firmware is current.
If I select Firmware upgrade and initialization will this load the stock software minus all the t-mobile stuff?

And now I'm rooted lol.

No. This is in case you mess up your phone flashing or need to go back to stock for returns or warranty purposes.

Just to make sure, should I download this firmware or just leave it alone. I really don't wanna mess up this device lol Thanks but I'm new to this kinda stuff

If you download it, you only need it on your desktop along with a copy of ODIN. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, disregard.

att room work on tmobile phones

My internet its to slow it doesnt let me search for it and put the link sorrie guy. Just leting you know that att room work on our phone be safe and back up first

For anyone having issues reading this, here's the English translation:
AT&T ROMs work on T-Mobile phones

I flashed this AT&T ROM, and it works. You just need the T-Mobile modem. If you want to use JellyBean "gap," just look for and install it. My Internet is too slow; it doesn't let me search for it to include the link. Sorry guys. Just letting you know that AT&T ROMs work on our phone. Be safe and back up first.​
Now, as far as this post goes, I'm not sure why it was posted in the first place, seeing as the same ROM is available natively on the T889.

Well actually to be fair, the OP posted this before that ROM was available in the T889 forums (and it's actually not native for the T889, it's the same exact rom that was first posted in the AT&T section and it's from an AT&T build)
But yes it does work on our T889's fine! I'm using it now, it's flyin

Hello,
Is there a release yet of the latest update firmware for Kitkat 4.4 for the Samsung S4 mini on Sprint network (SPH-L520) yet? If someone has it, it would be nice to have it posted. I would greatly appreciate it. Could anyone post it please?

It still hasn't been released yet... :/ officially, you can still get it by flashing a custom rom. But since you have the sprint version.. like myself. :/ You have to wait. Happy waiting. x3

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping they would have customs roms out by now. The stock is ok...nothing to write home about. But customs roms always rock out your phone way better IMO.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that soon we can have custom roms.

NP Yeah I was hoping the same. I think they aren't any developers for the sprint version. I was thinking about maybe port a rom by myself.

Reboot to download mode, think it's volume up or down + home button + power
Act as if to say yes for use and the next screen will show you text up top, this information you see... Does it say knox on any line?

I must say you will love the CM ROM.
I have a favor to ask as that Dev works to help me out also. Can anyone with the SPH-L520 on sprint give me a copy of the PIT file or upload a backup (no data) of the stock ROM.
I made a mistake and rooted/flashed the phone for my girl before activating the phone, not knowing that sprint would have issues doing so. Now the only stock file floating around doesn't work. using samsung kies didn't work and trying to get samsung rep to give me the file was hopeless.
