A step by step break it down for a major noob tutorial on installing a custom ROM ON KFHD 8.9(the one with the front facing camera only)
I've got root and KFFA, and for have succesfully managed to brick and unbrick my kindle 3 times .
I don't mind AMAZON OS, but my google play has been getting a connection error and my main apps have all been crashing.
So i decided to install a custom rom, but it's not been going very well at all.
The tutorials all lead to me bricking not sure if i'm a fool or if they're unclear or a mixture of the two.
Nothing else to say? maybe some help over skype or teamviewer or something?

Also I still get the no connection [retry] in Google play even though I am running cm11. If you get it, get the app hosts editor (if you don't get this app then you can just delete the hosts file but you will have to restart) and delete/toggle the host android.clients.google.com mtalk.google.com and Google play will connect (this works when you have fire os too).
I got it up and running wonderfullly but alas a new issue arises.
Can't seem to get my computer to detect it.
Did you get cm?
---------- Post added at 09:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:03 PM ----------
I see no reason to for me... See if other people running cm can connect it to the computer
yeah, running CM not being detected by my computer at all.

You can root your tablet by using Kingroot app. If you want to install Google Play Store in your tablet, just follow the given steps:
1. Root your tablet using Kingroot app.
2. Download Google Play Services and Google Play Store apk files.
3. Using ES File Manager with root access or any other root explorer, place the apk files in /system/app folder. There should not be any spaces in the names of the two apks. Example:Google Play Store Google_Play_Store
4. Install the two apks using default package installer.
5. Reboot your tablet.
6. Now you can use Google Play Store in your tablet!
Warning:
1. By rooting your tablet you may void your tablet warranty.
2. I am not liable for anything you do with your device.
3. Do it at your own risk.
I have been using Google Play Store for almost 6 months in my HCL ME Connect 2G 2.0 and it is working fine!!!
I m working on this tablet and you all soon gonna get a working custom ROM but I am working alone and I need help. Please if someone can send me the Mtk droid tool backup of the ROM. I will appreciate.

Nope... The screen got broken and I felt it was too outdated to repair it, hence replaced it with a Lenovo tab
BTW, I didn't feel the need of a custom rom later, since I both rooted it and installed xposed framework on it... This combo reduces the need of a custom rom... anyways best of luck if u gonna continue, though I feel there are just a few people who use this tab still now

My tablet has now hard bricked(with everything broken)?
So stopping the development.
Hello everyone, I recently installed miui 5 ROM on my s2 but ever since I did that,I haven't been able to download anything from play store, what ever I try to download just keeps loading the download never actually starts...
It definitely isn't a network problem from my ISP cuz I have another device which I use with exactly same sim and I don't have problems, so its peculiar with my s2...
So please is this normal bug in miui or what?
Check miui settings... I think you need to give Play Store permission to download. I think. Been awhile, I could be thinking of something else completely.

Hello, I am in need of some help with my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 running 4.5.2 (I believe) and rooted.
I tried stopping the OTA updates by moving the two OTA system .apks to the sdcard folder. When I tried rebooting the device, it didn't work. I had to do a factory reset to get it to at least boot. Upon boot, the device repeatedly tried to open the settings app for the first time setup, crashing before the settings app would even open. All my apps are gone except for SuperSU. I can open it through the search button (can't get to launcher or file explorer). Before the reset, I had ADB enabled. Now my computer can't find it when I connect ADB to try to install a file explorer so I can fix the problem. Also, the .apks I moved were delete when I factory resetted the device.
This is a really strange situation and I'm stuck, if anyone has ideas please help
Help
I still have this issue after several weeks. This seriously hasn't happened to anyone else?
Do you have the HD 8.9 or the hdx?
---------- Post added at 08:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:41 AM ----------
Also, do you have twrp installed? If you can still boot that's a good thing, you may be able to get it sorted
Thanks for the reply.
Recently ADB turned itself back on (wtf?) And I was able to install a file manager and connect to WiFi. Noe all I need to fix the device is the system apps. Do you have a place where I can download them?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 4 using XDA Free mobile app
if you have firmware 4.5.2, i think you have the hdx 8.9. Try the hdx forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/help
someone there may be able to help you out by giving you a copy of the apk's
I bought a used FTV v 1. It has xbmc installed and seems to work ok. But I get low storage msg a lot. I have uninstalled all apps I can find but no luck. It appears to me to be FTV version 5.1.1.40 514006420.It says there is an update ready to install but when it reboots it goes to what looks like an old version of Clockwork mod. At this point I select reboot and it returns to the FTV front page.
My guess is the previous owner installed Clockworkmod, SU, and other apps and then deleted them.
I Googled and found tests that say it is rooted but partially or bootloader is locked.
There are too many pages of ideas to sort out which is correct. How do I get rid of all these apps and reset FTV to unrooted?
do not let it update. you will lose your root! you need to block updates before you do anything!

have you tried clearing the cache for xbmc?

hey guys i just got a fire tv 2nd gen box from amazon this morning and i bypassed the forced update on first boot and the box is on 5.2.1.1 (551203220) so i installed the latest version of KingRoot and tryed to root it but it gets to 35% and then the fire tv reboots and its not rooted can anyone help me with this thanks.
From AFTVNews "Try using the latest version of KingRoot, but if that doesn’t work, then find version 4.9.6 or 5.0.1 because those definitely work."

I have been able to root using KingOroot on 5.2.1.1. Root with Kingroot, it will fail, Then run KingOroot. It will root just fine. However. DO NOT attempt to finish the rest of this guide to install TWRP. It will not work and mess up the FTV permissions. I repeat DO NOT install TWRP via this guide. Just be happy with rooted 5.2.1.1 for now. You can try to use TWRP manager apk. Havent tried that yet.

Hi, could you elaborate on that ?
I tried Kingroot.apk (NOT via PC). i tried 5.0.1 and also the latest & greatest from their website.
That reboots at 36%, after restart i aterted it again, it sits for a while then says failed.
THEN i started KingOroot (latest apk as well) and it jumped to 90% very fast, then sat for a while THEN failes as well.
How did you manage to do it ?
Please help

i actually got my device rooted now, what i did was run kingoroot and after it closed i ran kingroot and it successfully rooted my fire tv but i would really like to install TWRP now so i can install sloane prerooted stock image 5.2.4.2_r2 are you saying i cant do that?
when i connected via adb and requested root access (so i could block updates) it came up with the popup on my fire tv saying allow root access and in the top right of the popup it said kingroot and it worked
that was just a copy and paste. As the text went on they install twrp. Follow the guides, they will lead you. You can install it, just make sure to do a clean install when you install rbox's rooted zip as the directions say. kingroot and kingoroot both leave all kings of crap!

yes i plan on installing TWRP then installing the sloane prerooted stock image 5.2.4.2_r2 and when its done i plan on going to wipe, advanced wipe then selecting Dalvik / ART Cache, Cache, Data and Internal Storage.
so you think that will work because i dont want to mess up the permissions or anything.
The rest of the thread...
Did you manage to install TWRP somehow to use prerooted rom ?
THANKS

Hi !
Actually i followed the guide on aftvhacks.de BUT its identical to the one here.
In essence you copy the recovery.zip to the sdcard (i used se file explorer) and then execute it as root, sh-ing it.
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-twrp-custom-recovery-on-a-rooted-fire-tv-2/
There will be a window from kingroot asking for root permission and there is an error at the end.
At first i thought it failed but then i rebooted and saw the twrp logo.
Now i am installing pre rooted 5.2.4.1

be careful with the wiping.... just follow the steps laid out here.
You are done with step #1!
http://www.aftvnews.com/root/fire-tv-2/newkingroot/
At the end of the install it will tell you what to wipe... follow them exactly and it will work just fine. Then when you are done i would suggest a backup of a fresh install on a flash drive... If you have a usb hub it helps....
thanks @Michajin i successfully installed TWRP with no errors and from there was able to install the latest prerooted image, now the fun starts
Edit:
yeah once its all setup i will definitely make a backup thanks
