Moving files to ext SD Card - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently had to factory restore my M8 due to it constantly rebooting. After my factory restore, I can no longer move files (pictures and videos) to the external SD card. I had the ability to do that prior. I also lost the ability to transfer files from my internal SD to my computer. Can anyone help? . The transfers just hang and then fail. I am stock. No root. I should also note that I tried reformatting the SD card. I moved all the pictures and videos to the internal storage so I wouldn't lose them and could not move them back after reformatting.

You can only do it with root

I've never been rooted and I did it before

Anyone?

Have you tried to move files to another computer?
Give more information. How are you trying to move files to your externalSD? Using your computer or using a file explorer.
You shouldn't be able to write files to your external Sd because of Kitkat's new permissions.
There is a workaround if you have root

Faulty memory card maybe.
Format your memory card and check if you still have problems with your apps.
In which way are they damaged?

That's an interesting issue!
Try this:
1. Move all the apps back to your internal memory.
2. Delete off the .android_secure folder.
3. Copy your important stuff back to the computer.
4. Format the memory card from your phone (not from your PC).
5. Reboot the phone.
6. Copy back all the stuff and move the apps back to memory card.
See whether it helps.

It looks like there is a serious problem with your phone handling the SD Card. I can't suspect the phone, but only your SD Card.
Try with a different SD Card. By the way, is this card came with the phone? If yes, try to get a replacement in the service center.
And, you are welcome to press the "Thanks" button anytime you like .
yeah i will try that.thanks mate.

Just like the 1st time i got my arc.
Seems like no one elses experiencing the same problem.

Move apps to SD
You can easily move your games to SD with "ES File Explorer"
but you need enable root acess to this application, so you can move all kind of data stored on your phone.
For non rooted phones, there are some applications that cant be moved to SD card
So the first step is obtain the root acess to your phone

Provided u got class 6 or above microSD.
If not, swapping will cause slow boot up of apps.
I think It will better if you can afford class 10 to swap between external and internal storage..

Turning on apps stored on external storage

Hi there,
Two days ago I was using a rom with the external storage script, and everything was working pretty good - just a few problems, such as SwiftKey language packs not recognized after boot and stuff.
Now I flashed a new base rom and decided not to install the script.
All my application backups stored on the external sd card.
Now, when I am trying to start a game, it says to me that I need to download the data files even that it is stored on my external sd card.
Is there any possible way to make that the system would recognize that the data file is stored already on the external storage?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards,
Boris

you can use folder mount or directory bind to make it appear like the data is in your internal storage.
Thanks!
Where can I find an apk for directory bind?

yap....it works...
although its not official move to SD (as the application see)...just manipulate the folder so that it point to the files in the SD card
Its because our external SD is emulated in the file system.

Phone storage to SD

So I'm coming from note 3. Is it just me or can you not move files from phone storage to SD card. ? I torrent my movies and music like a lot I'm sure do. But can't get anything I download to move to my SD card. ?
I also came from a Note 3, and when it had 4.3 on it, you could transfer apps to SD, but 4.4.2 stopped that. Its not a Samsung or HTC thing, its a 4.4.2 thing.
Just tested it and I can use Root Explorer to make a transfer between internal SD and external SD.

I just traded my note3 for the HTC and I inserted my SD card and deleted all my picture that I took from my note3

Hey,
I believe there was something reported about 4.4.2 not allowing this process. I went to Playstore and downloaded an app called "NextApp SDFix". It's supposed to restore your permissions to write files to the MicroSD cards. Check it out!!
You should be able to use HTC File Manager, which allows you to copy files to the SD card, without root access. Hope this helps.
