Are you sure that you have those contacts stored on your phone?
Well, you can try doing this, go to Settings -> Apps -> Manage Apps -> All Apps -> People -> Clear data. And then try displaying all your contacts. Warning, do not clear data under Contacts Storage, it will delete all your contacts, only clear data under People.
If it still doesn't work, use a 3rd party contact manager like contacts+ and take a backup of all your contacts using it, then do a phone reset and restore your contacts.

Can someone tell if there is an easy way to do this?
Basically, I want to copy all my SIM contacts to my phone contacts (I know how to do this using the SIM manager).
But I don't want all of the contacts to apear twice in the contact list. Is there anyway to setup the contact list to hide the sim contacts? I want to keep the contacts in the SIM card so I can move them from phone to phone, but I want it in the phone as well so I can sync it to gmail through active sync.
Any Thoughts?
- thanks

Searching took me 2 seconds to find this registry edit. I'm not trying to be an @$$ but just remember to search before posting.
22. Hide SIM Contacts: HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone - create a new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0

What ROM are you running?
Also, IIRC either going to Options in the Contacts menu allows or changing a setting in the WM Settings menu does this.
As for copying your contacts from SIM to phone memory, you should have a SIM Manager in your applications that allows you to copy back and forth, as well as backup, etc. It took me a couple minutes to realize that you don't have to select each contact manually, rather there's a very narrow line above the first contact when you open the list to transfer. Make sure that's highlighted, then select to get all contacts at once.

If you want to test this, i adapted the .exe to have icon and shortcut, have just installed and installs, but do not have a SIM to test Dash with, the program is originally for PPC.
There is no GUI press once to hide, pres again to show.
Install to device.

You didn't read my post very thoroughly, did you? Rather than digging into the registry at all, the ONLY thing that you NEED to do to hide or show sim contacts is to change ONE setting in your phone.
The other process I was talking about was how to use the included application to copy contacts from SIM to phone...and even that's easier than it sounds in my post once you know the nuance of the SIM Manager.
Hi guys,
I would to ask one thing.
I own a HTC One X. When I press the phone button and search a contact through SMART DIAL, my contacts appear 2 times, from my phone and from my SIM.
I don't mean the people section, there i manage to have my contacts once through people > phonebook and selected what i wanted.
I mean the SMART DIAL section. There, I have all of my contacts twice.
What can I do in order to appear only once?
I'm attaching a screenshot to understand exactly my issue.

Easy way: Use GODialer from market HERE
Harder (what i did): download Wondershare MobileGO HERE and edit it (dont forget to downloade MobileGO to your phone too HERE)
And you can try to hit the thanks button
Or I will just delete my sim contacts
Just remove contacts from sim?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
go into your contacts settings and deselect the ones you dont want the phone to display, ie, sim, google, etc.
wow what an answers are given....
just do what graemeg said goto settings deselect sim contacs..
I would advise ( if u have np with google )
to save all the contacts to google, Easy to edit on your pc and always available
+1 to what graemeg said above. I too had this issue and deselected the source of duplication (phone in my case).

There are multiple questions in my mind, all related to the same general thing...management of contact storage on phone or SIM, and managing what is displayed when you hit contacts icon.
a. How do (can?) you choose whether SIM contacts or phone contacts are displayed when Contacts is opened? If you cannot select which set will be shown, which ones ARE shown?
My desire is to have ALL of my contacts on the SIM, but I use some of them only infrequently. I would like to have a sub-set of the total set (on the SIM) to show in contacts. My general idea is to have that sub-set in the PHONE storage, and display the PHONE set in Contacts...but be able to switch over to view SIM when needed.
Is the above possible?
If not, how do I achieve the same result--to have contacts display a subset of my total set, but be able to access the total set occasionally?
Thanks.
Try in contacts
Menu > contacts to display > customize
There you can choose which contacts to display.
I wouldn't worry too much about where they are stored. Sim card contacts are imported automatically and the contacts list is synced with Google.

Huh. Are you talking an ATT S3?
Contacts>(contacts tab)>menu drill down on my phone has no such entry as "contacts to display". It has 8 items...

import/export

Hmm my bad I should have mention I'm on aosp not touchwiz. Sorry
So, since that help was for a non-touchwiz ROM, I still am looking for answer to the original question if anyone can help. I don't see how to do it--or how to accomplish what I want a different way.
Some AOSP ROMs have Sim Management the same way, but not with as many options...
I don't have aosp. I have stock!

It's still the same... and don't yell at me...
I just fail to see why people keep bringing up AOSP when it helps not a twit answering the question of this thread.
And it is NOT "the same" as the previous "how to" from someone usiong AOSP will not work on my stock phone whatsoever.
Unfortunately the way you would like to do it isn't possible. All contacts will show. But you can create groups, such as Work, Friends, Family, and even manage them easily at www.google.com/contacts
The groups are accessible in your Phonebook...
I use googke contacts....all of my contacts are stored and added to google.if i mess things up..they are restored when I log back into google.

He's inquiring about the organization of the contacts... creating groups would be the easiset way, but still have a full phonebook...

Yup.
Does it work for you with your contacts?
Same problem for me too....any solution yet?
May be the feature is still under development
When i try to view system contacts it pops up the error given in the attached screenshot ....
I guess we have to wait for a fix then from oneplus.
If someone finds a workaround pls let us know here.
Still this is a great feature one plus added, once its fully working it will be awesome.
I figured it out.
Easiest method I found is going to the Parallel Whatsapp -> Settings -> Contacts -> Show all Contacts
This forces a refresh on Parallel Whatsapp.
You don't have to toggle back to check mark. just pressing it will refresh the contact list.

Go into where you have your contacts stored whether it's on phone or email, edit the contact number and place the area code before the number example 1 555 then number. It work for me. Go back to whatsapp and refresh contacts.
GUYS PROBLEM SOLVED
go to settings of the phone and follow the below steps
advanced features ---> dual messenger ---> scroll down to find the "USE SEPERATE CONTACT LIST"...switch the setting off for it --->go back to whatsapp and refresh the contact list
Hi everyone,
So how do I?
I use "set as" from gallery....nope...nothing happens.
I open the contact and choose edit and all there is is the phone number, no way I see to add a picture.
Oh I searched and of course got info about 15 years old for android 2 or something, always helpful how up to date the net is.
Thank you for your up to date help.
No problem here...
Open contact, choose edit and click on the picture/icon. Then I can select icon, choose gallery or camera to select new icon.
Working may depend on where your contacts are stored... (google, phone, Microsoft exchange, etc). You can change standard location in contact - settings (3 dots)

Therein lies my problem, when I choose edit there is no picture icon, only contact name and number.
Is it possible this is because my contacts are on the sim and not saved on the phone?
I will give that a try, did not think of it before, thank you for prompting the thought.

It is more than possible since the contacts are at your sim card. Try moving them on your phone and see if that helps.

Yes worked a treat!
However getting the contacts onto the phone was tricky.
I exported by sharing to FX file manager and saved to the SDCard then imported from there as there is no import from Sim option for some bizarre reason.
But got there in the end.
Thank you.
