Scratched screen - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've unfortunately managed to scratch my m8 screen with keys, the scratches are light, but annoying when the phone is switched off.
Is there anyway to clean these out? I heard somewhere that toothpaste works?

Thanks. I did think of that, but I have an unlocked bootloader with s-off, which I guess voids my warranty?

Try to return each and everything to stock(rom/recovery/kernel)then lock bootloader then act like you dont know that you have S-Off device. In us and uk they wont see if you have s-on or s-off.Also you have to act a bit.

Those scratches are noticeable only when screen is off.you won't see them when you are using the phone, so I don't understand why does it bother people...
Do you look at your phone when it's switched off? I mean more then a second? In my opinion, What you don't see, is not worth worrying about.

You are right I guess. Plus I just realised the HTC advantage programme is not available in the UK. I would have to use a local outlet.
Toothpaste it is then!

Just be aware the screen has a special coating, if you rub it off where the scratch is you may find this leaves a noticeable patch and you may end up having to remove the coating from the whole screen.

The side where? On the screen, the front bezel, the battery cover?? If its on the case of the phone somewhere i suppose you could find replacement parts online and swap all the internals if you were so inclined. If the screen itself is scratched, other than some hair brained schemes like blow torches and sand paper i would say you are stuck with the scratch. The good news is a decent screen protector film should disguise anything other than a major disfiguring.

Seriously? I'm about 99.999999% sure scratching the phone is not covered by any sort of warranty, not only is this terribly unhelpful it is unbelievably preposterous.

I worked at Best Buy. If you are within 30 days they will probably take it back. Also, Black Tie is a protection plan that covers everything but lost and stolen. I will be sure not to help out in this thread any more though.

I apologize if i came off as being forward, but 'just take it back' is pretty lame advice for user error, regardless if it is possible or not.

I had people bring back phones that had water damage. Half our managers would say take it back and the other half would think about it and then may or may not do it. If he just got it yesterday he could reason that it was too easy to scratch since it is supposed to have gorilla glass. I've returned more with less reason because the customer was nice.

I stated that I wasn't going to help because my advice was disliked. But, if it was my store I'd give you some Crap then help you out if you were nice and reasonable. You could also get the protection plan. I'd be tons more likely to help you if you had that.

You don't really have to do either one, but if you are trying to swap it in store I would, and you have to have a reason other than the scratch. If you are using GSBTP you need to break something on it so they'll send it off. If you use GSBTP you don't need to unroot because that doesn't matter.

Find a less clumsy friend.
Clumsy people can be a pain
would it be bad if you just swap it out saying you actually want the blue one but buy the screen protector to hide the scratch, and then a couple days later just go back and switch to a new white one saying you actually preferred the white one to the blue one?
Get Ghost Armor installed on it. It will fill in the scratch and protect it from now on.

Scuff on the s4 home screen buttone out of the box?

Am I the only one whos noticed a little scuff on the bezzle around the home button? It was there the first day I got it. It might have been from when the tmobile guy unboxed my phone to activate my sim card. He turned it over on its face down on the counter. Does anyone think i could get this replaced?

i always wait until the remorse period is over to root. Just in case. It usually takes that long for stock firmware to show up anyways.
I Odin'd MDL back and everything went back to stock. I got my warranty back and they exchanged it. Actually the girl didn't even check anything I just told her I had overheating problems, the screen had smearing issues in the settings when brightness was low and that it wasnt reading my micro SD card although I know its not the s4.

I have returned many phones with bootloader unlocked and root. .. They don't even care and bother to check all those. They just make sure the device turns on and the serial number matches the one they sold you.

Installed it straight out of the box... turned it on minutes after installing it. I would give it at least an 8.

I've only had the device about a week... And no, it's not noticeably thick. You can tell it's there, but it's very smooth; I personally almost prefer using my screen with this rather than with just the bare glass.
I have the invisi-shield extreme and I like it... it's not really thick or anything and it's like a insurance in protecting your phone... the only thing I had a problem with is... there is this spot on the phone that arches over the home button and there is a small space between the button and the shield.... well it just so happened I was getting out the car heading in to work was getting all my stuff together and I dropped my keys which had a small lock on it for my backpack... and it hit perfectly on that spot and shattered my screen from that point and cracking lines went up the screen... I was irritated at first.... but got my replacement with my insurance policy and got my extreme shield transferred over to that one... but other than that little weak spot it's a really good protector and doesn't affect the screen touch at all... hope this helps your decision

Can the "Verizon 4GLTE" logo be rubbed off? Anyone willing to try?

So the "Beatsaudio" logo can be rubbed off with non-acetone nail polish remover, and not damage the phone at all.
I'm just wondering, can the "Verizon 4GLTE" logo be rubbed off, or is it etched? Anyone willing to try?
Before you call me crazy, here's a photo of a Sprint HTC One with the "Beatsaudio" logo rubbed off. The Sprint HTC One does not have a "Sprint" logo so it was never there to begin with.
I think it is...sexy...naked...ooooh.
I dont want to be the guinea pig but you can clearly feel that these logos are screen printed on or something and not etched, so I would assume they could come off.

it will come off..
cleanly though, another story, I agree though, would love to ridit.
It feels similar to the Beats print, so I assume it could be removed similarly. Not willing to try on my own device, though. A non-clear case will cover it right up, anyway.
Try Goof off. It wont harm the aluminum(as long as thats what it is and it isnt coated) and it should get rid of the logo's just dont get it on the screen and be careful with it. This stuff will melt plastic(slowly), so dont get it on anything plastic. Just put it on a paper towel and wipe it off(if it will). If it will come off, it will start to smear....then you know it will. Just slowly get it off by using more goof off a little bit at a time.
Well thats my idea. I take no responsibility for any harm done to your device! LOL
I definitely won't be trying it on my shiney new One, but I will admit that is SEXXXY without the logos on the back.

Some people do, some people don't. I wouldn't say that I care that it's there, it doesn't affect the way the phone works, but if it's removable, I'll remove it. I removed the badges/emblems from my car and truck, because I think they look better without them. Same sort of thing with the Verizon 4G LTE logo. It's just a preference.
I'll take the chance and try it once I get my One and will update everyone on the method I used and photos.

I'd try it but I haven't got my One yet
well we already KNOW that the beats audio logo can come off. just need to find out what gets the vzw one off. Will doing this ruin my warranty that I bought from squaretrade though? I'd love a clean back but not at the expense of zero backup plan...

Agreed.. the whole logo thing doesn't really bother me either.

Anyone notice when you're using the phone without a case, and.....

You're using it one hand, and squeezing the sides decently tight, the screen just like herks and jerks for some reason, as if there's some sensors near those spots of the phone, and you're messing with frequency patterns or something.
Ex. Use the phone without a case, one hand squeeze the bottom sides of the phone while scrolling up or down on the browser, and tell me how annoying it is to use. Then do the same thing with a case, and tell me how drastically different and smooth it is. Like night and day.
Wtf is the issue with this phone? I'd love to use this phone without a case, but you can't!!!
