I am running 4.4.2 on my S3 (AOKP Task650) but unfortunately I am receiving some battery drain. Is there a Kernel I could use to prevent this and save more battery? Which Kernel do you recommend most? Also I am having issues with my Data. I get "E" for edge in a 4G LTE area? Is there a radio that I can flash or APN for this to fix that problem?
Use betterbatterystats and see what's chasing the drain first

I can't afford to pay for any apps on the store as I have a lot of expenses to deal with. I have been having a huge drain on quite a few of the roms that I have been installing. What would be a good kernel to install? I heard that Task650's Underwear Kernel was best

Use the link that DocHolday posted. You can download betterbatterystats from there. As far as kernel Im not sure as I dont run Tasks ROM. I can tell you I have had issues in the past with data connection dropping and not getting correct signal. I flashed back to stock rooted and made sure everything worked. Then flashed my custom ROM again. That fixed it for me. But first I would try to use that app to see whats causing it.

My phone has always randomly had a little glitch. For some reason, once every so often my 3G icon just disappears and stuff like my internet and market dont work. SMS still works fine though. Normally just a reboot fixes the problem but today I had to pull the battery. This happened even when I was fully stock but now I'm running DC 3.2.3 still with the stock kernal. Any similar experiences?
Running all-stock with no root. Happens to me also.
Full bars for signal (calls and texts) but the 3G icon stops transferring. I just put the DATA widget on my homescreen and toggle it. Not really a big deal...so far.
Same things happening to me it wont connect to 3g and freezes most of the time. Just started about 2 days ago

Anyone know anything about this problem? My phone now randomly restarts even when im not using it from trying to connect to 3g im guessing. Keyboard also stops working randomly

are you running a rom?
...If you are you should try flashing a stock rooted and see if the problem still exists. If it does you may want to try to unroot, go back to stock and update everything. Then you can narrow down if it is rom/software/hardware related
Yes i am running stock rom rooted. What do you mean by update everything?

I was also running stock rooted at first. Here is a weird update I just came across though. I've installed (and uninstalled) SwitchPro, which is basically a more customizable widget than the stock power control widget, 3 times now. And every time I add the actual widget to my home screen my 3G instantly disappears.....wtf? I uninstall it and reboot my phone and it's back to normal.
I'm gonna dig in to this a bit after I get back from the gym.

I just meant that if you unroot the phone, make sure your radio's are updated to stock, update your profile and prl, then you could determine if it is hardware related or maybe you just have a bad signal?

I think he means Device Self Service. Updating your PRL, Firmware and Profile.
I forgot to mention that when my 3G becomes "sketchy" this is the 1st thing I do. After that do a soft-reset and pull the battery out.
##RTN# - enter MSL - click menu, reset.
This is the only way I've found to fix this.
It wipes out ALL of your information so make sure you are backed up and synced. It is just like getting the phone new out of the box - it will auto-activate and you should be good to go.
If you don't have your MSL, call Sprint technical support and ask for it.
Thats pretty disapointing that that seems to be the only awnser. Will try when iget back from my vacation. The problem that makes me really mad is that it reboots randomly even when the screen is off in my pocket. Any backup app recomendations?

So earlier in the week I'm all running GB MIUI and having no issues except the phone app FCing on me when I answered a call. Then I downgraded to an older version that didn't have that issue. FF a few days and all of a sudden I have no signal in areas(like home & work) where I before had(the work signal was very poor but it was there.) Now nothing. Just searching and killing ma battery. At home is 15mbps Wi-Fi so not huge there except I don't get text or calls! At work, no Wi-Fi that I can use. So I try to update to the 722 radio, no better<~~~Sad Pandaâ„¢ then I installed the ICS beta 6. Still same(didn't expect a difference here as I am very well aware the radio and rom are separate.) All of this on Verizon. Between MIUI versions I did wipe only dalvik cache. But full wipe and then format of all but sdcard on ICS install to be sure...that's all I got. Any ideas? I can get a normal signal outside my house. 3ish bars on 3G

I would try installing a stock ROM like Andy bone's and see how your signal is. Other than root, his ROM doesn't have any modifications. Of you're still having issues, it might be what happened to my first Inc 2 and you're radio is just dying.

I thought ROM's and radios were independent?
So what did you have to do then? Unroot and return it?
Sent from XDA app:ICS Beta 6 on DINC2
they are, and were you running Miui version1.12.30? if so try 1.12.9 it is the most stable version to date. as far as radios go there is a 1111 that is the most up to date. thats odd that it just started like that. sometimes (like maybe once or twice a week) my data just doesn't work. the little arrows show no activity and I can just hot boot it and its back. I'm on Miui 1.12.9 and have been running it since it was released with no problems.
Rockin' the Miui Incredible 2 w/xda premium
Yeah, I had 1.12.9
The reason I recommend a stock ROM always is to get as close to stock as possible is for trouble shooting practices it is the best bet. ROMs and radios are independent, but custom ROMs don't always have full OEM drivers out software patches that can sometimes cause troublesome performance. Do a backup of your current ROM and then load a stock ROM just helps you do component isolation and prices of elimination.
If the radio is bad just follow the stickey that gets you back to stock and if it is under warranty just call and get a replacement. I did this and I had no hassle from vz.

I've been having this issue now for a while, but only on some wifi networks, not all. I am attempting a solution, I have tried flashing different kernels to no avail. I'm currently running monxified v8-01, with perseus kernel.
Anyone find any solutions other than to disable wifi?

I seem to be having the same issue and have been searching the web all day to no avail. Please let me know if you find a solution. My battery life was fine until a few days ago and I can't put my finger on what started the issue, but have narrowed it down to the wifi not letting the phone sleep.
Hi Just updated the firmware to 4.1.2 kernel 3.0.31-1000653 and firstlt can see any changes in the new update and secondly the battery is draining much much faster than before. Can I get the previous version back? or factory reset and back up? Thanks for any help.
I don't have the answer to your question but I thought I would share my experience with the update to 4.1.2 I received a few months back. I also noticed a faster battery drain. However, on investigation, I found that it was something called gpsd using the extra juice. This was samsungs find-your-phone-service-thingy that I had been testing.
I switched it off and the battery problem vanished.
Try to find out what is causing the problem before you try to fix it.
Good luck

Hi Thanks for your help. Lets see if it is under "Location Services" and maybe it is "Location and Google search" ??. I cant see anywhee else it could be that is pulling the juice out of the battery!!. Have you noticed any changes in the the firmware ? I can't see any changes at all......beats me lol. All the best and thanks.
I experienced the same issue after a firmware upgrade, and I fixed the problem by performing a factory restore.
Getting rid of it.

I got rid of the find-my-phone service by opting out. If you go to settings-security-remote control and log in to your Samsung account you should then find and option to switch it of. If it's not on you will need to find another suspect
Good luck.

Thanks to all you guys for your help. What I did was a factory reset as one user suggested and the battery life is now back to normal. Cant figure out why they produce a firmeware that drains the battey?. Now I have to send it to Samsung under the warranty as when I insert the micro sim card it shows as "No Sim Card" if I wedge a slice of thin carton above the sim card and inside the slot pushing the sim card down harder onto the pins below it works OK, so is needs a new sim card tray or the shop has not cut the micro sim properly !. Again thanks for you help.

No deep sleep when charging. Always 1600 in cpu spy when charging
Hi guys!
I switched to the Note 2 from my S3 since 2 days. But I was wondering why it is very very hot when I charged it. So I installed cpu spy to check the problem. When I didn't use the phone it was going quickly in deep sleep but when I charged it, it was alawys in 1600. I have already reseted it 2 times and now I have no apps installed. So please can you help me. Thanks in advance.
Ps: I didn't rooted it and I have the latest XXDMB6
I have a T999V and everytime I try an Android 4.3 rom I get random reboots. It happens most often when I'm in my car, where I listen to music on my stereo via bluetooth, so I can only assume that it has something to do with bluetooth. Everything was fine when I reverted to stock via Odin. I'm using DanKang, but I had the same issue when I flashed CM 10.2. I have logs if someone could tell me how to post them.
Thanks in advance!

To begin, are these roms truly tested or Released for your device ? Also what Kernel are you using ?
Yes, they've been tested and considered stable.

Do note Tested for T999 does not immediately mean tested for T999V.
Also you didn't answer the question on Kernel.

Good point. It's this rom, and I assume whatever kernel comes with it.
DanKang
I've just flashed all of the modems and bootloaders etc for the phone in the hopes that that may help.
Keep in mind that cm roms seem to be known for BT issues. And from what I hear most of the 4.3 cm/aosp roms can be a bit buggy. I still get regular pm's about their problems reading nv data where it appears the imei and other info is lost, when in reality its just not being read.
I'd consider going back to a version that you know to work well for a while.
Or at the very least report your issue in the roms thread to see if anyone directly familiar with it might have an idea for you.
Try a different kernel too. It may be a simple as that for you!

Thank you very much for your help!!!! I'm hoping that you're wrong, but I have a sinking feeling that you're right. I've just reflashed radios etc, so I'll see if that helps. If it doesn't I'll look into another kernel, then I guess it's back to stock if neither works.

I think another Kernel may help. I can safely say Doc is right. The roms are buggy where Bluetooth is concerned. However, it shouldn't make you instant reboot when connecting to bluetooth.

Hmm..
I don't know. I went through the Major Changes Dan did to the Rom. There's nothing that jumps at me to suspect the reboots. So may I suggest a different Kernel for you to try ?
While you are at it, Do you want to try a different Modem ? Perhaps the BT/NFC antenna code may be acting up ? Doc's Signature above has the thread with Modems.

Try KT747 Release 10-16. This I am reccomending on the assumption that you are still on DanKang. If not then let me know.
The Kernel comes with a Tweaker App called KTweaker. Leave it alone until you know your reboot problem has gone away.
P. S. - I just realized, your problem only comes in car. Do you know if your phone gets warm when you are listening to music or otherwise using the phone in car ? GSIII variants have a Temperature cut off switch internally. The Phone will reboot if it got too hot. I typically use TempMonitor to check the temperature.
Lots of people have had issues with BT in the car. Almost every time it's due to the manufacturer cutting corners trying to offer features with as little cost. I agree none of this should be causing your reboots. But many use the same Rom/kernel with no such problem, leading me to believe it's either an app or setting and/or how it tries to connect to your car.
You should factory reset, install nothing, and change nothing but your basic initial setup. Now try to connect. If it still crashes, you know it's a problem between the Rom/kernel and stereo. Now try another kernel. If it still happens then I kinda doubt you will solve this using your current Rom. Try stock, just to see if it'll work.

UPDATE: So yesterday I flashed the latest bootloader, modem etc. I've had 2 20+ minute trips in the car connected to bluetooth without a random reboot. I'm not yet calling the issue solved but I'm cautiously optimistic.
THANK YOU for your help!!!!!! I'll report back and try some more of the suggestions if I have any further issues. Once again thank everyone SOOOO much for your help!
