I installed MildWild Sense on my Desire. After that, I lost the volume down + power button combo to get into boot menu. When I press this combo, it jsut boots normally into the system. Now I'm stuck with this ROM.
How to get into the boot menu again? Please help me!
edit: fixed by getting out the battery then put it back, and used the "back & power" combo to access boot menu.
Next time go to settings/power and uncheck fastboot. And like u found out, just pull the battery for few seconds, vol - and power will work.

Hello folks,
I installed the following rom today. Knowing that its a developer rom I realy wanted to try it out. And its working like a charm, but...
now i got 1 problem.
I cant get into the boot menu anymore.
Normally I had to press (power + volume down) to get into the boot menu. Its not responding anymore when i press those buttons.
But the power button also reacts completely different now.
Before I had to press the power button shortly to start the operating system. Now i have to hold it for a little while (which is of course very good, prevents from accidentally starting your device when its for example in ur pocket).

Any ideas how i can still get into the boot menu?
I got s-off and hboot data++
Thanks in advance.
Hi
Try Backbutton and Power or pull the battery and test it again whit power + vol down.
Pulling the battery out seemed to do the trick. Any idea how come? Do i have to pull out the battery everytime i want to go in boot modus now (as some sort of protection) or was the system just stuck?
Anyway thanks a lot!
Edit: Yes it seems that i have to pull out the battery everytime now. But the operating system seems to be starting a looooot faster.
i have the same Problem whit my Device- If i make it S-off i come never in my Recovery- Only whit (Phone On) Powerbutton > Reboot > Recovery - or - Pull Battery
So you can't reach bootloader from phone off by using the volume down and power buttons pressed together and held for a few seconds - without pulling the battery first?
That's odd.
I think this standard entry to bootloader should remain the same regardless if any rom you flash, as flashing roms doesn't touch the bootloader at all.
Sounds like it might be fastboot doing this - Settings, Applications, Fastboot tickbox.
If checked, I see the same behavior as what you've described here.
If I take the tick out of the box, booting takes longer, but I can get into recovery/bootloader every time.
I read very good thread about rooting my phone, and I am stucked on a first step.
Cant enter hboot menu with volume down + power. how is that possible?
My phone is s-off.
probably you have not disabled the "fast boot" option.
To do so you need to go into the settings, select " battery" and then uncheck the option " fast boot"..switch off, and try again..should work..
I was like you : enable to enter in boot menu.
That was because I was doing the wrong manipulation.
To enter to this boot menu, power off your phone, remove a few seconds you battery, plug it again.
Then, press Vol-. Hold it. Press power button during 1 second, always press Vol-. And release Vol- when boot menu appears.
If it doesn't work, remove your battery and try a new attempt.
You'll probably need to practice a little.

It helped. Now I have rooted Wildfire S
Any recommendation for custom rom?
I have HTC Wildfire S from Orange branded 2.3.5 and trayed all and can enter H-Boot - nothing many times use pull battery then Vol- + Power - many combinations also ,enabled or disabled Fast Boot in option and nothing always boot Normal to Android
Okay here's the run down. I'm on JB and rooted, and was about to apply the new FreeGee bootloader unlock, when I wanted, out of sheer curiosity, to check to see if I could get into the stock recovery by holding powering off and then holding Vol Down + Power. Ever since I rooted it didn't seem to work anymore, but I didn't have a need to boot into since manually applying the JB update.
Anyway, neither Vol Down+Power of Vol Up+Power worked, the phone just booted normally. So, I decided to use ADB to boot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery". It worked, and the stock recovery loaded up. I can scroll up and down using the volume keys, but for some reason cannot select any option by pressing the power button. If I hold the power button down, the phone will appear to restart, but it boots right back into the stock Android system recovery, where again, I cannot simply select any choice with the power button. ADB doesn't list the device since I'm in recovery, and I only have fastboot installed on my lapton running XP which isn't available at the moment (I'm on OSX 10.6).
I'm thinking pulling the battery may work, but I don't have my torx screw driver handy. Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps where to get fastboot for OSX (it appears to still be missing from Android SDK). Thanks.
EDIT: SOLVED - Turns out in stock recovery, the soft menu button (the one on the bottom right) is used to make the selection, not the power button like in the custom recoveries. Still not sure why the Power+Vol. Down doesn't work to boot into the stock system recovery.
Use the menu button to select now.
what dm said. they wont be lit up but they still work
Yeah, I figured that out almost immediately after posting this (feel dumb now). Thanks though.
Any idea why the key combo Vol. Down + Power no longer works to boot into stock recovery? Seems odd that it worked before when manually updating to JB.
Hello. Can you tell me another solution. I have similar problem. Stuck in recovery mode with faulty power button, and can't get out of there. It's not working with menu button. Is there a way to do it with SD memory card? Thanks.
My desires volume down button was not working for a ling time. Two days before i flashed a file and it crashed and my phone got stucked in HTC logo. Now i cannot able to go to recovery as my Power and Volume down button is not working. Is there any alternative method to enter recovery other than the usual way. Pls help
Pull battery out then back in then press and hold back button + power
thanks bro..now i can go to recovery...
I tried flashing ViperOneM8 1.8.0 (ViperOneM8 1.7.1 -> 1.8.0) which I guess was the wrong thing (I think that was an update, should have started with 1.7.1 first). Anyway... Now my M8 boots to some type of android base OS without a lot of things...
1) It's not possible to get to settings as there is no settings app in the app drawer.
2) There is no title bar/task bar at the top. The area that holds the time, and a few icons at the top is gone.
3) There is no background.
4) There is no way to get on the WiFi do to #1 and because of this I can not add my google account. That in turn means no google play store access.
But the BIGGEST thing of all... I CAN NOT BOOT TO FASTBOOT!!!
- Power the device off.
- Hold the volume down button (also tried the volume up button) + press power usually boots strait to fastboot mode.
I THINK it has something to do with the fact that by default in the settings I need to untick the fastboot option in the dev options.. Well I can't get to settings. Now what?

Shut down phone.
Turn it on
Hold volume up+power button until it restarts
As soon as you get the black screen for restart release power button and hold volume down.
If your timing is right you will enter bootloader.
I tried it and it definitely works
Flash your nandroid or any rom you know was ok to begin with and you are up and running!!!

Tried that...
1) Powered off device.
2) Held power button for about 2 seconds until it came on then let go.
3) IMMEDIATELY I pressed and held down the power and volume up buttons.
4) The phone continues to boot up a little bit longer and gets to the verizon check (verizon splash screen) then shortly after goes black (as expected).
5) IMMEDIATELY let go of power button continuing to hold volume up button.
... .. .. .
6) I get the white screen that says HTC (powered by android)... NOT a bootloader screen as expected.
Update... When I try to click on the app drawer then top right click the little three dots, I try and "Manage Apps" ... ERROR "App isn't installed"...
:/

If you connect the phone to the computer, can you get fastboot or adb to recognize the phone?
If so, you can try adb reboot bootloader command or fastboot reboot bootloader comand

Yea, I ended up doing the following...
1) While device is powered on, Press and hold Volume Up + Power until device reboots.
2) When it starts to reboot continue holding the Power button and change to the Volume Down.
That worked for me.
