Hi,
I bought a HTC Desire today and so am new to android.
I have no knowledge of linux.
I used to own an iPhone 3g and that has issues so can't use it to jailbreak the ps3.
I used unrevoked 3 to root my HTC Desire.
Then downloaded psfMod and put "psfMod-bravo-0.9.7.2.img" onto my sdcard root.
downloaded terminal emulator and quickboot from the market.
ran terminal emulator
su
Flash_image recovery /sdcard/psfMod-bravo-0.9.7.2.img
but i get
flash_image: not found
What am I doing wrong?
someone please help!
Thanks in advance,
Ashwin

You can't use a capital letter, everything is case sensitive in linux, use flash_image instead of Flash_image.
Just a noob question
Hi All,
I would really appreciate if someone could give me an explanation on this flashing stuff. Would it be possible?
I have a rooted Desire. I rooted it with unrevoked3. And have the ROM Manager and ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7.
I did several backups of my device using the Power + Volume Down key to boot into HBOOT and then selected the Recovery menuitem. Then the ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 is running. (I already had this ClokcworkMOD after using unrevoke3 I guess it installed the REcovery app.) Here in the Backup and Restore menu I did some backups.
Then I downloaded the the ROM Manager from the Market and after that I ran the ROM Manger and it downloaded the ClockworkMOD Recovery externsion-or-what.
I also did a backup with this ROM Manger but I guess this is the same as the previous ones I did using form HBOOT with the ClockworkMod Recovery.
So now I'm here....
I have downloaded the psfmod image for the Desire.
You wrote that the easiest way is to use the unrevoked3 to flash this image. But what will happen after that? Will the phone will boot using this psfmod image? I guess it won't boot into normal mode.
And after that how can I change anything back?
I really want to try to downgrade my PS3.
Please help...
Thanks in advance!
you want to jailbreak a ps3 with a cell?
I would really recommend going to ps3-hacks.com and reading their tutorials. Basically you will be flashing injection code on your phone as if it was a rom. Honestly I would use a calculator to do it, much simpler process.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Thanks! I will try to find a tutorial there. Maybe I will have luck.
hey so i got the galaxy nexus on sprint today, unlocked the bootloader no problem, booted into recovery and installed su.zip and rebooted like instructions say. i downloaded rom manager so i could install cwm to install a new rom and i dont seem to have a working SU. i get no prompt from SU, and when i try and update the binary it doesnt let me. any ideas?
edit: nevermind, decided to use the 1 click tool and it worked like a charm
What version of android are you on and did you use the correct su.zip?
Edit: nvm
After flashing new update via Samsung Kies, I tried rooting SGS2-Hercules using Odin3 v1.85 and Odin3 v3.07 with fresh DL of TWRP v2.4.4.0 recovery and Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.2.0.2, I get denied access to SU on all apps needing SU permissions. I did get TWRP recovery flashed and working, also used TWRP to flash Superuser, which is installed and running, just no root access! I used a couple of Root Checkers and this is what I get:
Root Checker by "Free Android Tools"

There seems to be something else at work here, that TMO has added to block ROOTING... because I've tried to get root 5 times, and each time getting a fresh copies of TWRP recovery and Superuser, Busybox. FYI, I've been rooting my devices since the FIRST ANDROID G1 came out and I've never had any problems rooting any of my Devices! ! !
I'm hoping one of you DEV can look into this or if by chance I'm screwing up now!
Thanks guys, If it wasn't for you DEV, I'd have a cheap over BLOATED PHONE.
1. Theres a tread by rushing on how to root the device.
2. After flashing superuser in twrp..update supersu in the play store...open it..it'll give yu an error message and ask if you want to root via twrp. Click yes..ok...and you're done.
3. Wrong section man

This worked for me. Rooted and on CWM recovery (I like CWM). Everything works as it should. And yes this is the wrong section. Needs to be moved to "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting".
Rooted fine for me under ClockworkMod Recovery (Yes, I like it and I use it) by flashing SuperUser 3.1.3, then installing SuperSU from the Google Play Store.

Thanks guys and sorry about posting in the wrong section!!! I've always liked CWM, should've known better!
Good thing you told me before I updated. Phew!
Well all your suggestion didn't work for me! I used Odin 1.85 to flash Official Update and still no luck. I updated Superuser and app told me I needed to update su binary, but I do, and I get an error that it FAILED to update. I tried SuperSU and I get same results.
I'm able to flash any recovery, then flash superuser, busybox, still no root. Can I use ADB or Fastboot to push the SU Script, and the recovery & superuser, to get root???
I'm installing the JB update using Kies again, because I ended up in a boot loop. I'm a techy for MS, but not so with Linux, so if any of you DEV can help me push the files and apps to root my device, I'd be very happy!!! :fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Roger

Come on guys, can I get some help, please? I don't know if you dev remember back when the the G1 came out and started the whole thing. Back then everything was done by fastboot. Just hoped I could root my phone that way.
Did you try just going into TWRP and clicking reboot and then system? It should prompt you to install supersu. That's the only way that worked for me.

I did that and for some reason it did not ask anything! I'll give it a go again. I'm just wondering if I could just get SU using Term? Like I had mention, TWRP or CWM will flash using Odin, and I can flash Superuser or SuperSU from recovery, just when I'm in my device the is no root or partial root that doesn't allow root permissions.

Yeah I couldn't get it to work by flashing the zips either. It only worked after I started over fresh. Odin the new JB and TWRP again and then after booting into TWRP hitting reboot and then system. If it doesn't ask you to install supersu before it reboots then I don't know what the problem is.

Thanks a lot, that did work for me. I guess somehow when I flashed the SuperSU zip, it didn't give root, but installed the app, but then continuing flashes of the recoveries and superusers just added to the problem!
So was the solution starting over and re-flashing JB via Odin?

Okay, so I'm fairly new to this rooting scene, but I'm an Android veteran already. I've just used Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root on my tablet (P5220 running 4.2.2. Everything was correct.), and I forgot to check the Auto Reboot box in Odin. I then proceeded to hard shut down it, because Odin said reset on the UI. Cool. I turn it on. Now I got stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 boot logo. I got worried. I then hard shut it down again by holding the power button, then I turn it on again. Now it's still stuck on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 logo. I'm scared I just bricked my tablet by trying to root it. I'm so stuffed.
Can anyone help me? This is my school tablet as well, and I'm basically ruined if it's dead.
UPDATE: Okay, I've rebooted into Download Mode, retried flashing the root with Auto-Reboot on, succeeded, and now I'm stuck on that blasted Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 screen again.
Vin,
in recovery , perform a factory reset. If you are still looping , restore your working backup which you made of course ! ...?
Instead flash the appropriate supersu zip for your device and android version.

OUCH, okay I am only aware of my Philz build for the gt-p5220 [link below]
Philz-gt-p5220.tar
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347818464
Flash in Odin with auto restart UNCHECKED. when flash is done [res-ok] force reboot to recovery.
Search forum for correct supersu or get current supersu from chainfire's thread for KK with x86 support
DO NOT USE BUILT IN ROOTING FUNCTION FROM RECOVERY! FLASH SUPERSU ZIP INSTEAD !
also ask @nels83 if he can get a current recovery build for your tab if there isn't one already.
You may need to un-root manually while in recovery mode and using adb shell.
If so give me a shout here and i'll try to walk you through it.

Okay, I've got PhilZ Touch working. Now what? (I'm totally new to this kind of stuff, by the way.)
UPDATE: VICTORY! MY BABY'S ALIVE!
Okay, so what I did, was to navigate PhilZ Touch, and I cleared my Dalvik Cache. I then opted to reboot, it notified me that the ROM would overwrite PhilZ, I said, OK cool, fix it. It then told me root access is missing/broken and I told it to NOT root for me. Now it's rebooted, and I'm going to check if it's properly rooted. I'll keep this updated.
UPDATE 2: Not rooted. Sherbet. ALRIGHTY THEN. I'm going to flash that SuperSU zip now. Wish me luck, and for the love of all things technological, please don't go wrong...
UPDATE 3: For f***'s sake. My ROM is incredibly stubborn and -- what's that? The Superuser request? Grant! Re-verify! Rooted! Thanks a bunch dude, you've been super helpful.
@vin_
OK good deal :good:
I CANNOT BELIEVE you said Sherbet in a public forum !!!!!!
Aww ****, now i said it too.... :silly:

I don't really know. Make sure you have busybox installed. Anything else kind of depends on what your needs are and what's available to/for your device's architecture.
When i still had my gt-p5210 santos10wifi, i had supersu, busybox and sdmaid and a chroot setup for compiling smaller projects and working through adb shell.

There's the Xposed framework. It allows you to use modules that can do many different things. I'm sure you've heard of it.
Search up Xposed Installer and download the APK. I would provide the link, but XDA won't let me, as I have made less than 10 posts.
You can find modules on the Play Store.
Also on the Play Store, you can find Pimp My ROM, which allows you to modify your device in cool ways. I'm sure you've also heard of that to.
It's free.
And of course, there are mods you can flash in recovery.
There's plenty more root stuff, even in "normal" applications. For example:
If granted root permission, ES File Explorer will let you explore the root of the system.
Nova Launcher also has extra features when granted root access.
And then there is Freedom at in-appstore . com.
Freedom allows you to get in-app purchases for free. However, this is piracy, so install at your own risk.
Hi all. I have rooted my s4 mini using kingroot. I have installed adaway and xmod because they were my main reasons for rooting. But i'd like to go a bit deeper now and learn a bit more about rooting as im a novice. But before i can do that ive read that i should create a back up, am i right in thinking a nandroid and a back up are the same thing? Well anyway my problem is ive tried to create a back up using cwm rom recovery but my device is not supported. Ive also read something aboit phils cwm recovery 6 ( at least i think it was called that) but from my understanding i need access to a laptop or a pc to be able to take that route. I dont have access to a pc or laptop at the moment so im just here to ask if anybody can advise me on how i can create a back up for my device. My plan is to learn the ropes using this device as its an old device and when im more comfortable im going to root my galaxy alpha. Any help and answers will be appreciated, im not so great with tech and the lingo but im wanting to learn. Thanks
Unrooted
Well i have unrooted to be safe. My son plays with my phone and i dont feel safe without out a back up or nandroid. I would still like info so i can reroot n get adaway back and xmod for the unlimited lives on candy crush, and sandbox mode on clash of clans. If anybody has any info that could be of any use to me, even just a link to point me in the right direction it would be great.
Try installing TWRP for backups. i am also a beginner but i tried backing up the stock rom, flashing custome roms, And restoring the backups. Done this almost five times a week.
Here are files.

Some important steps from here
http://techbeasts.com/2014/05/08/install-twrp-2-7-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s4-mini-how-to-guide/
Forgot to mention that my stock rom is 4.2.2 Jelly bean. I had flashed cm12.1 rom before, which triggered my knox to 0x1.
Thanks il check those out now
Yes twrp is a good recovery...i am using it too and it can be installed without a pc
Davidich could you direct me to a link or explain how i can install it without using a pc. Do i need root to install it or can i create recovery then reroot? Is it as simple as finding file and installing it by checking unknown sources. Then opening up twrp app and applying recovery? Or do i need to go into download mode to apply it? Any answers will be appreciated. Thanks
Well ive rooted again and installed twrp because i needed root access to enter twrp. When i open twrp it asks me to install busy box, i accept the request but it doesnt download. What is busybox? Do i need it to back up? Ive just read something about mounting system using terminal emulator and then that should allow busybox to download. Am i going in the right direction?
Please Anyone give me a backup of stock rom for Samsung galaxy s4 m919

Busy box can be downloaded directly from play store. As for installing a recovery without a computer well that's RISKY. There are apps that can help like Flashfire, Rashr and Flashify. These can flash various things without a custom recovery. BUT they are not guaranteed to work. My experience is with Flashfire by Chainfire. With this I was able to flash a stock ROM without a computer. But the app when I last looked was in beta stage. Also if something goes wrong you will need a computer to fix... If it hasn't bricked your phone. Sooo much safer thru Odin on a computer.

Yes,i used flashify.First i flashed a recovery.img(downloaded from xda) and when i got a custom recovery,i flashed the last version of twrp.at first yes i get a soft brick because flashed a recovery for i9195L but then i re flashed another for i9195 and that's ok.if you want to try: from here download recovery.img ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589011 ,when you flashed the recovery...flash this one https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347763032 from recovery
