[Q] Help upgrading to 4.3 from 4.1.2 - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
First post; casual question. I currently have the i317, 4.1.2, Jedi X20, TWRP 2.6.0.3, Windows8 64bit; TMobile. I've downloaded 4.3param_tz.tar and am attempting to update via Odin 3.09 or 3.07. I boot into download mode, or reboot into download mode via TWRP; load the .tar file into Odin via the AP selection and click on start. It runs for only a few seconds and reboots either back into Jedi or into TWRP (again depending on the method I used to get into download mode).
My experience is limited to loading custom ROMS via TWRP, and changing the modem once or twice. My question is am I better off leaving well enough alone or are there benefits to upgrading to 4.3? If it is a good idea to upgrade any help on doing so as I seem to be missing something.
Thanks!

S3 drops phone signal, Not sure what I did. I747

I was flashing some Roms because i was trying to do the mod where the internal memory is switched with external, i was trying to find a rom that supported this. I flashed deadly venom, it runs on android 4.3 i believe, which required a modem and bootloader to be flashed for data and WiFi to work. After seeing it didn't work with the mod, I restored from a backup in TWRP. Everything seemed fine but now when I check my phone sometimes it says there's no connection. The signal bars have an x at times, it lasts like two minutes. I'm running CM 10.1.3. Before rooting I think my phone had android 4.1.1. Can I flash the original modem and bootloader, if so where can I find it? Also would it brick my phone if I tried?

Your phone is an AT&T s3 (i747) with a the 4.3 MJB bootloader? If it is, you cannot flash a stock 4.3 ROM via Odin unless the ROM as specifically compiled for flashing within Odin. Trying to flash any ROM older than 4.3 in Odin could brick your phone.
To confirm you bootloader, boot into download mode and let us know what it says on the download screen.
Is your phone showing the correct imei?
This is what it says in download mode:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-i747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (7 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Also I tried flashing Roms in TWRP and it says Failed

Okay, it looks like you do not have the 4.3 bootloader which is good.
If you have the AT&T s3 i747, yYou can use Odin to flash a stock AT&T ROM onto your phone while will restore it to the factory settings and software.
Download the stock 4.1.1 AT&T ROM from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=9080
Download and install the latest s3 drivers. Download Odin 3.07.
Launch Odin, boot the phone into download mode, connect the phone to computer, click on PDA, select the AT&T firmware you downloaded, click Okay. It will take a few minutes for Odin to check the file. The only items that should be checked in Odin is F.Reset Time, nothing else. Flash the phone. When you see Reset in the status window, remove the USB cable, remove the battery, replace the battery, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, reboot the phone.
This method has worked me for without any issues. As with an procedure involving a firmware flash, there is always a chance that phone may become hard or soft bricked. Make sure you are prepared for such emergencies.
OK, if it does get bricked are there solutions to bring it back? Also after this if it goes well can I just reroot and restore from backup? Thanks a bunch for the help

Since you don't have the 4.3 bootloader, the flashing process is very straightforward.
What backup do you want to restore?
If you restore to stock 4.1.1, I recommend using Odin to install the latest version of Philz Touch which will allow you to root in recovery mode, copy a custom Kit Kat ROM to your external SD card, and flash it.

Possible solution for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 WiFi problem

Dear friends
I'm going to describe the steps i took for fixing the WiFi problem of my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100.
The problem started last january, when the device got the latest 4.4.2 update from Samsung. By that time, it was not rooted.
WiFi started to turn off by itself, WiFi slider was grey and wont turn on again, searching for ip adress, etc...
I did everything i could find over the internet and nothing fixed it, after 1 month of search i was about to give up.
1. Flash stock 4.3 ROM from Sammobile using Odin 3.09, in my case the ROM was this:http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/23564/N7100UBUEMK4_N7100ZTOEMK3_ZTO/
I tried this with the lates 4.4.2 ROM without success.
2. Do a data wipe/factory reset from the stock recovery utility.
3. Flash philz_touch_6.48.4-n7100 recovery utility using Odin 3.09. File here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/n7100/philz_touch_6.48.4-n7100.zip.md5/
4. Root your device by installing SuperSU-v2.40 from philz recovery utility. Get it here: http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip
5. Install NI1 Bootloader using Odin 3.09 with the BL tab, get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54320353
6. Install NI1 patched modem from philz recovery utility, get it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m950i4l27cpksrb/NI1_modem.zip?dl=0
7. I'm very happy with Android 4.3 and WiFi working again, if you wanna try to update to 4.4.2, do it at your own risk.
Good Luck

[Q] Trying to Un-root from CM 12.1.. Failing ):

I was on CM 12.1 and I want to go back to completely stock Note 4, as if I purchased my device from the Sprint Store!
I went to download Odin and the stock firmware of Android 5.0.1 for my device, I followed instructions online, and when I press start in Odin, after about 3 seconds it Fails.
Can I not go back to stock Touchwiz 5.0.1 firmware after being on CM 12.1? I do not have a nandroid backup, and even when I try and access Recovery, it is no longer custom recovery, it is a very simple looking recovery screen, with no option to restore a backup.
What can I do! ): I'm extremely stressed and worried I'm not quite sure what to do.
My phone does go into Download mode just fine and show up in Odin.
Also, my phone actually boots up fine, and works fine, but there is no custom recovery, and Odin is failing when trying to flash the stock firmwares

Since you're familiar with CM and recent OE1 writes both on TW and CM, can you tell the OP if reactivation lock exists on CM, please? How to disable, if enabled?
He's trying to flash OF5 in Odin but it quickly fails or he's downloading the correct OF5 tar now. Add any suggestions you think he might need when coming from CM12 to stock tar these days.
I suspect the recovery is now stock due to partial flash (if possible), reactivation lock or attempt to root in Odin again.
Thanks in advance.

Softbricked to download mode, unsure which versions are in my phone

I have a few specific questions at the bottom, but first, here's the long details:
I ran the custom ROM Hyperdrive RLS 16 (4.1.2) for years and loved it, but the past week I felt it was time to upgrade to a new ROM that was more up to date. I started to try out R3ARMED (4.4.2), did a full wipe in CWM and installed the zip files provided (the ROM and a d2att specific file).
Unfortunately, in my excitement I forgot to make sure that I had a 4.4 bootloader and modem, which seems to be rather essential for this particular ROM. The install failed and I thought I may have bricked the device, but I was able to update CWM and get back into recovery mode. This time, I got through the AROMA installer for the new ROM, but on reset I got stuck in a hard bootloop. It's pretty nasty--I can't use the key combination to reboot into recovery or download mode, and I only get as far as the opening "SAMSUNG" screen before the device blacks out. However, I can use a USB jig to force reboot into download mode--it's the only interface I can get with the phone at this point. ODIN recognizes the device, and when I use Heimdall and its drivers, I'm able to use those tools to interact with the phone. So I hope I'm not completely lost, but not being able to access CWM recovery mode definitely hurts.
Here's what I've tried so far to fix it:
- Without a USB jig, load recovery images onto a 16 GB SD card, insert into phone and power up (no successes, some images actually made it so the "SAMSUNG" screen no longer showed, others corrected this issue)
- Re-flash CWM with heimdall (failed)
- Used the Ultimate Android Toolkit to convert the CWM img into a tar that ODIN can flash, and tried to load it (failed)
I'm looking into trying to flash a full recovery onto the phone to see if that can fix it. But I have a few concerns:
1. I know that once my phone gets a 4.4 bootloader and modem, I can't go back to an earlier stock version.
2. I had an unsuccessful 4.1 -> 4.4 install attempt in the process of bricking updating my phone.
3. I have no idea if the install impacted the bootloader--so I don't know whether I can try a 4.3 stock flash or need to use some of the more recent phone dumps.
My first question is, as usual, what is the best route to take to recover this phone?
My second is, are there tools I can use for a phone in ODIN mode to check the version of the bootloader/modem, check on the integrity of the file system, etc. etc.?
I have a replacement phone on its way, but I view this as an excellent learning opportunity, and would love to hear some advice.
You have an i747 or i747m?
Do you see anything about warranty bit in download mode?
On the positive side, flashing the R3ARMED rom would not have changed your bootloader and modem. If you were on 4.1.2 before the flash, you should still be on 4.1.2 bootloader and modem.
There is at least one MJB_MJB Odin flashable stock ROM with active download links, it is for the i747. If you have the i747 and not the i747M you could try it.
If you have the i747M there are Odin packages for all of the stock ROMs at sammobile.com. Or, you could extract the system.img from the i747 ROM and flash it with Heimdall. BUT only if you are careful to avoid all of the files pertaining to bootloaders, radios, etc. (*.mbn, non-HLOS.bin, etc.) This route may not be for the faint of heart, but I promise I am not the only one to have done so. I didn't do so until I read of others having done this.

It's a regular i747, not i747M. Thanks for the advice... you've given me a few things to try now! Will report back later with results.

T700 stuck after updating to 6.0.1 and running cf-autoroot.

So something I did went wrong and I'm at a lost to what to do. I tried searching google and here but if someone could point me in the right direction, I would be most greatful.
So I install 6.0.1 using smartswitch which went just fine, but I decided to root it using odin and cf-autoroot, but that seemed to fail and I was stuck in download mode. I manage to exit download mode but it just remains stuck on the samsung logo. I am able to boot into twrp recovery (had installed already from 5.01. root) and I did a factory reset but I'm still stuck.
Any ideas? Any hope?
Update: Got it working buy downloading henklbr stock rom located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...firmware-selection-sm-t700-sm-t2960225/page18 I think I screwed up odin the first time by not having auto-reboot checked. And can I say samsung-updates needs a better download provider, I did not want to wait 8 hours for their download to complete.
If you are reading this because you ran into the same issue, rooting with cf-autoroot still didn't work for me, I ended flashing twrp via odin and and then going into twrp and flashing superuser. Now I have root again.
Just saw you fixed the problem.. may my time wasted rest in peace
Yeah uh last I and others I know checked cf-autoroot does not work with android 6.0.1
Feel free to try this though:
Okay so here is how you can MAYBE fix your T700.
1. Download a firmware or ROM from here or other source: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-T700/
2. Download Odin v3.10.6 on your PC.
3. Use Odin to flash the firmware or ROM on your T700. (Don't know how? Try to find a general guide on flashing firmware)
Once you do that feel free to use this root method that works on the T700 running 6.0.1:
http://android-rooters.blogspot.com/2016/10/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-tab-s-84_27.html
yep, just download a TWRP with a TAR extension for ODIN and happy flashing... You can root after installing your Rom. The same can be done if you install the stock ROM before installing TWRP and rooting for debloating.
Thanks anyways ZimriTech, Google lead me to be leave CT auto root would work, lesson learned.
