yakjujp flash with Factory Images yakju

Hi all,
I just have bought a galaxy nexus, but The device product is: yakjujp.
(I searched in the Internet, but I can't find where is it come from.) If I flashed this device with factory image yakju , is it OK? (can that image work with my phone?) I'm a newbie, please help me.
PS: Why I must do that? because this device still on 4.0.2 and no system update available. I want to upgrade to 4.0.4 and JB in the future
Thanks all,

Will work just fine.
Follow efrant's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769301
and after getting to 4.0.4
install the OTA jellybean update or if you cant wait, install CWM and then follow efrant's guide on OTA update using CWM.
And you are set.
I did the same from yakjujp. am now running 4.1.1 stock jellybean, rooted.

There are actually multiple options on this forum that can assist you. Since you labeled yourself as a newby, I'd suggest Mark Skippen's Galaxy Nexus toolkit option (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310) . It does all of the steps in efrant's post, but in a easy gui format. I'd recommend efrant's steps if you want to know what goes on behind the scenes and feel pretty comfortable with doing some manual coding.
Good luck!

Hi all,
I search in google, I found the step to flash factory image. And here are the steps
1.Download factory image - extract image
2.Download fastboot
3.Return into fastboot
4. fastboot oem unlock
5. fastboot flash bootloader <bootloader.img>
6. fastboot reboot-bootloader
7. fastboot flash radio <radio.img>
8. fastboot reboot-bootloader
9. fastboot -w update <image.zip>
10. fastboot oem lock
am I right? are there any mistake?
This is my first time. Please help me check

I don't know. But I flashed nexus S with fast boot and it worked. But galaxy nexus is the first time. I'm not sure anything. If you have experience, please help me
I manually flashed from yakjuux 4.0.1 to yakju 4.0.4 and then received the 4.1.1 OTA immediately afterwards. I had absolutely zero experience with anything of this type and it went smoothly. I read the instructions over a bunch of times before proceeding though. The hardest part was installing the fastboot drivers and I managed to get it to work on the second try. Not very complicated at all.

The extension jp most probably means Japan :cyclops:; It's a localized build for GSM maguro model, released by Samsung, not by Google.
So your first option is obvious - wait patiently for Samsung release of OTA of 4.0.4 or 4.1.1 for yakjujp
I've got OTA upgrade to 4.0.4 for my GN maguro/yakjuwz 2 weeks ago, so at some point your build will be upgraded as well
The option for impatient (most of us, otherwise why would we be looking on this forum in the first place) would be to flash Google OTA build yakju on your phone.
I've found at least few threads on this site describing the procedure, you can find it HERE, but better HERE or HERE
I was thinking about flash using currently not existing option :-(
I've found this great Gnex Toolkit that able to do many wonderful things to all GN models.
IMHO, it can be ultimate tool for all GN models, including those with non-Google build, all the flavors yakju(xx)
It is already have an option "Flash Google Stock Image to phone", which is exactly the option we need
But tool currently supports only Google build yakju and I am too n00b to post my comments in DEV thread

Use the guide that Srirama said in post #2. It is exactly the same process as flashing the Nexus S with fastboot. (The guide just looks long, because I broke it down into very simple steps in the hopes the people might learn something and NOT use toolkits.)

Hey sadboy7489, reply buddy.. did u upgrade?? did u take backup of your stock ROM??
yakju is Google's International GSM version..
yakjujp is for Middle East, Africa and Asian countries - region based
It gets updates from Samsung not from Google..
So yakjujp updates are always delayed because Samsung is responsible for yakjujp version..
Any one can install yakju build on yakjujp because its just a build nothing else ..
so it'll become International GSM version and works in 200+ countries and has additional languages support + regular updates from google..
Even my Galaxy Nexus is yakjujp but I installed yakju 4.0.4 then updated to 4.1.1 :good:
Enjoy !

takju or Yakju?

When my new Galaxy Nexus arrives, how can I find out if it needs a takju or Yakju update?!
Just want to download and prepare everything in advance...
Where did you get it from? Takju phones are only available on the Google Play store. Other variations are sold overseas. You can download the "official GN update" app (name might be a little off) from the play store and it will tell you which version you have.

tajku is with Google wallet, so if you don't need it, you can go either way.
Only way you know that before hand is if other people who bought from same place tells you
Where did you buy it from??
considering you're apparently from Holland you'll need to do this:

Download this app from the Play Store to check the version of your device: GN Official Update Checker
Use Maps
you can find out if it's yakju or takju by simply
*going into the maps app
*settings
*about
the version should be under device
eg
samsung yakjuxw
Unless you have google wallet, you have yakju. Yakjus are far more common and seem to get the updates a tiny bit earlier in the rollouts.
with CM10 i have yakju and with AOKP i have takju? strange no?
And with the stock rom i had yakju too. I think this yakju/takju thingy doesn't matter when using custom roms, am i right?
you can get you product name (takju yakju etc) by:
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.product.name
adb.exe is included in the Android SDK.
there are just different software profiles for Galaxy Nexus the hardware profile however is the same - 'maguro'.
I used to be on yakjuxw but flashed takju as it updates faster.
basically
takju = yakju + google wallet.
takju & yakju are both GSM/HSPA+
takju & yakju are distributed by Google
yakjuXX are distributed by Samsung
actually this name you can change it anytime from /system/build.prop.
so, yes it does not matter much

If you want to know how to flash it go to the Galaxy Nexus forum and you'll find a guide. It's very complete and well written so you shouldn't have too much trouble flashing the update on your phone. (or you could wait for a few days and hopefully you'll get the update via OTA, I'm sure it will arrive soon... well if you are on yakju anyway)

4.2 was released on Takju first and Yakju got it about a week later. They get the updates at about the same time anyway as they are both updated by Google.
People if i got yakjuXX will i be able to use fastboot & flash cyanogenmod stable for "maguro"?
Yakju got android 4.3 before takju, so yakju is better.

Normally takju gets updates first but that all changed with 4.3, yakju got 4.3 update before takju, so I'm guessing Google changed their minds an made yakju their first choice from now on with receiving updates first.
When maguro was released, there was only yakju. But then again, there's no real difference between the two.
a maguro sent this.

Official Jelly Bean update for my i9250 (Canada/Unlocked/GSM)

Hello all. I appologize for the silly question, or if it has been asked before, but here it is.
I just picked up a Galaxy Nexus online, brand new and unlocked. I got it, popped in my Virgin SIM, have it all ready to go and synced with my Google account, but I am stuck on ICS.
Here as some specs:
Android Version: 4.0.1
Baseband Version: I9250UGKK7
Kernel: 3.0.1-ge2433f2 [email protected] #1
Build Number: ITL41D.I9250UGKK7
If I go to System updates for the OTA update, it tells me that the sustem is up to date.
Is there any way to get the official update for my Nexus?
Also, the device is not rooted, and does not have an unlocked bootloader.
Please let me know, as I am very interested!
Thank you!
Lambrecht van Dijk
There is a way. It might work but try this. Go to all apps in manage apps section. Search for google services framework. Press it to go to details and then hit clear data.
Hit the thanks button if it helped or worked.

All Canadian GNex are sold with yakjuux builds. So far, no one has reported getting JB OTA on a yakjuux build. If you want, you can switch your build to yakju or takju (both of which are updated well before any of the other builds). Or you can wait -- JB should be out shortly, as someone received his device back from warranty service with a yakjuux JB build on it (which you could also flash if you want).
EDIT: Posting the same thing in two separate threads is not going to get it answered any sooner, as is likely going to upset people.

And by switchig builds, how would you do that?
So JB should be out for UGKK7 build?
And no, sorry the clear data did not work.

Yakju and yakjuux are regional variants of the Galaxy Nexus. The phone is the same but it's preloaded with a slightly different version of android and more important, only the yakju and takju are updated directly from google servers. Al other variants are upgraded by samsung. That's why you don't have JB yet.
Like Efrant said, you can easily flash a yakju or takju (if you want Google Wallet preinstalled) builds in your phone to get JB and recieve future updates first hand.
All the data on your phone will be deleted, make a backup. Read Efrant's guide. It's very helpful!
If you want the thrill of an OTA update, flash a yakju build of ICS 4.0.4 and you'll get the OTA message. Or you can flash the stock factory image of jelly bean right away.
Cheers!
Thanks! I will be sure to read over the guides!
What about for my build UGKK7, will Samsung ever release an update?
Please do not spam the boards with the same question. Locking this one but will leave the one in Q&A open. Thank you.

OTA Update 4.1.2 is that going to happen to Yakju devices soon?

So is this update out there for out S Galaxy Nexus devices yet? or should we flash it ourselves with the file that was released yesterday for the Nexus 7?
Never flash ROM from different variant...
Galaxy Nexus doesn't have 4.1.2 yet, but people in the development forum had complied a nice pure AOSP ROM that is based on 4.1.2

Yes the factory image hit, but the OTA isn't available.
Word is that the images weren't even supposed to go up today. There was supposed to be an OTA to Google employees' devices for final dogfooding.
When it's officially rolling out to takju devices you'd better bet its rolling out to yakju at the exact same time.

4.1.2 OTA to newly purchased Galaxy nexus
will a newly purchased Galaxy nexus that is still running 4.0.4 receive the OTA for 4.1.2 ? OR at first it needs to have 4.1.1 running to receive the OTA ?
Is there any possibility that the 4.1.1 OTA will still be available for the new device ?

It depends more what build you have than what country you bought it from. As far as I know, except for two versions for the US (for Sprint and Verizon), all other instances of the phone have the same hardware, so you can flash TAKJU or YAKJU, in which way you gain Google-managed updates as if you've bought the phone from Play.
P.S. Efrant's topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895) is, I think, very well put up and you can't go wrong with the guide.
