[Q] Converted M8 to GPE restarting its self - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys,
Have a problem with my M8 and not sure what's the cause of it all. Its an M8 that's been converted to a GPE edition via: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708589.
Problem:
The phone keeps restarting randomly, comes on for about a minute and then restarts.
How it started:
Just received the phone back from HTC, I sent it in to get a loose speaker grill fixed. Up until then the phone has been fine on GPE (4.4.2). Prior to me sending it in, the phone had an unlocked boot loader, s-off, custom recovery and rooted.
I made HTC aware of the state of my phone as well as telling them that its an original M8 converted into a GPE version, They didn't have a problem with it and fixed the device under warranty. But on receiving the phone back, HTC have relocked the boot loader and put s-on back, its still rooted.
So first thing i did was unlock the boot loader which went smoothly, next up was firewater to get s-off back. That didn't worked as HTC has apparently patched the exploit so im still with s-on.
After that is where its all gone down hill , tried a nandroid backup, worked initially then the restart began. Did a factory reset and that seemed to work until I tried installing apps, and then the problem came back.
Does any one have any idea what might be the cause or solution? If i had s-off id re flash the RUU, but obviously cant do that.

Hey there,

Let me know how it goes

The reason for the reboots is SuperSU v2.00
after updating SuperSU my phone gone completely crazy and keeps rebooting every 1 or 2 minutes, had to Disable the app and no problem so far
hope ChainFire fix it ASAP

Hang on
Edit : That works, SuperSu is screwed..

im still on SU 1.94 were you on SU2.0 ?

I was on version 2.0, any more questions ? I'm going to flash to Viper in a couple of moments

You might be right, on SU 1.94 and no restarts. Trouble only happens if i get the latest version.:good:

[Q] I am absolutely stumped, please help

Hi All, I come begging for help after exhausting all of my options and searches for similar issues.
I have a CDMA Galaxy Nexus Stock 4.0.2 but rooted (I installed CWM).
I woke up to my phone stuck in the boot loading screen; it just kept looping over and over. I shut off the phone restarted it and the phone was practically unuseable, it ran very very slow. Now I haven't done anything recently or installed any apps. The only app I installed was a modified MMS app (one of the Inverted Black ones), but that was 2 weeks ago and everything was running fine since then. (However since I'm not on a deodexed Rom, I knew there could be issues).
Well I of course switched back to the stock MMS app that I had manually backed up and that did not help. Now my phone would load, it would get to my homescreen, but it would then say something along, "service is not working, wait, close, or ok?" I'd hit wait and within 2 minutes my phone would automatically reboot and then go into a a sort-of bootloop (it would just show the boot.img and loop).
I then tried to restore two Nandroid back-ups (which were basically bone stock and made months ago) and both worked, except it would say secure.img not found or something like that. I was still able to boot up and use these back ups, but then within 5 minutes I would get the same error and then the phone would reboot.
After retrying them I decided to to just go bone stock and wipe and do a factory reset. This worked and everything seemed fine until I went to turn on wi-fi.
I would wait for wi-fi to turn on and eventually it would just quit and then reboot the phone. I did this 3 times in a row to confirm that it was indeed wi-fi causing these rebooting issues.
Now here's the thing, right now my phone is working as I have purposely tried not to touch the wi-fi (I need to use my phone) . Data, voice, mms/sms all work. But I literally have no idea why wi-fi would be causing my OS to go crazy?
My last resort is to flash the stock toro.img but I was hoping you guys could help me before I get to that point.
As of right now even though I did a data wipe/factory restore my phone is still rooted (rooted apps all work) and my bootloader is still unlocked. (I renamed the secure.bootloader file as per the instructions when using fastboot to load CWM).
Please help me troubleshoot this, Thanks guys.
I don't know if you have tried but maybe try flashing a rom after a data wipe

I'm thinking about doing this as well since I will probably have to flash back to stock. I just want to make sure I can get back to stock since I am still covered by warranty and insurance (assuming they do not check to see if my phone has an unlocked bootloader).

Well you can always relock the bootloader. I doubt you will have to go back to stock though

auto rotate gyroscope sensors not working

Hi, I recently flashed a jellybean in Rom on my HTC one x and the rotation stopped working. So then I decided to return to factory settings with an ruu. So I did that and it was functioning again. So I reinstalled jb still worked.I then decided to try the 4.2 camera on my one x and it stoped working again, I then tried the ruu but this time it did not work. Next day I go home from class decide to unlock and relock the bootloader and it worked again, I then tried to install a in Rom ( once again) but this time it did not work. So I tried the ruu again, didn't work, tried unlock and relock bootloader, factory reset, wipe cache, everything and yes screen rotation is on. I alsotried the app android sensor and it showed my accelerometer/gyro not working. Can someone explain how to fix because its hard for me to believe that its hardware since it happens after I install a Rom or flash something. Please help.

That can happen from time to time with gyros. Even if you get it to work with the right RUU, then you reset the device, it might stop functioning again. I'd say your motherboard needs to be replaced. You can always try with different ROMs and stuff but my thought: your HW is problematic

don't think so, every person who encountered errors like this were on cm10 and its kernel ncx, theres should be something wrong with those things... or people don't flash it correctly
I have this problem as well, but I'm using ARHD rom, right now.
Although I also think it's more a hardware fault, I'm not really 100% sure about it.
Sometimes a new Rom flash or a reset can fix it.
But after a few reboot it gets stuck again :-/
So confused about this problem too
Although, my phone is unlocked now and got Hboot 1.33. I'm gonna wait till the official RUU is out and reset my phone fully (with locked bootloaders) before sending it to HTC for repair.
Maybe you should do that too
I had this problem too. It was fixed for a while after I flashed stock rug but then I clashed another recovery and wham they got knocked out again. Then I installed viper, cm 9 still not working. Installed latest paranoid android 2.53 and they are working again oh and I have latest twrp recovery installed. I really can't say if it is hardware or software. Maybe a mixture of both. I dunno. Only just flashes pa this morning but I have rebooted and they still work. Usually it will get knocked out if I reboot so I'll see what they are doing after a week or so. I'll probably keep pa on here until my official j b OTa is released. I think it did have something to do with either that ncx kernel or a recovery I tried. As that what knocked them out each time. Good luck in fixing it as different people gave had different things that fix the problem. For me it was reverting back to stock ruu. It was 4.03. 1.29..... something. But it also was fixed when I flashed latest paranoid android. Just a fee things to try....
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Edit - sorry for the spelling mistakes....
one x gyro sensor probs
I also hv same probs. in one x.
sometimes reboot can fix d probs. of gyro sensor. n when u restart d device it stop again n smtime u restat device its working again. i dnt knw its a hardware probs. or software probs. ??? Plzz help me guys.
also give me a rpl in my mail id. [email protected]

[Q] M8 International stock, frequently crashing

Hi,
I bought my m8 international about 2 months ago. It was working fine up to now, with an occasional crash and reboot (4 times since I have it). Since yesterday evening it has crashed and restarted about 20 times. I have no idea what has changed and there seems to be no consistent reason for the crash. I tried to restore to factory settings and even clear the SD card, but on the first reboot it crashed when I was entering my sim unlock code.
I rooted all my previous phones but did not try it on this one yet, so it is completely stock.
Is there a way to find out what is causing the crashes without having root?
thanks for your replies.

I take it you have updated the firmware via OTA's? I had a similar experience when I first got my M8 (a couple of weeks ago), it would reboot randomly several times a day, tried factory resetting and it didnt help. I installed the prompted OTA's and running 4.4.3 which fixed it. Was a bit annoying as I was trying to hold off updating until I seen what my options were for root/s-off etc, now I have the latest bootloader and would have to use Sunshine to s-off. Still havent rooted as everything is running great for me at the moment so happy enough.

Yeah, installed all the OTA's, but last one was a couple of weeks ago. I just double checked, but there's nothing to update at this point.

Are you getting the HTC error log messages when you boot up again, should appear as a notification? I got a few of these when mine was crashing, you can view the log if you tap into the notification. It will be a massive log, I tried copying and was going to paste to an email or doc but it wouldnt let me as there was too much data.

Yeah, I get those. As you say it's massive and not readable, at least not for me. I couldn't even manage copying it..

Weird problem. I need help from devs! Wi-Fi and reboots related.

Hi.
I purchased a HTC One M9 seconhand that has a weird problem. When I first took it it was locked and S-ON. First thing I did was to root it and mod the thermal file to get a more confortable touch. But after 5 days of use WI-FI starts hanging and, even if I switch it off it starts trying to reconnect by itself. Then the phone restarts. If I keep using it the random reboots become more frequent at the point of let the phone barely usable. Then I have to restore backup, install RUU and start again. It does not matter if the phone is rooted or unlocked, or not, it just acts the same way again and again.
What the heck could it be? If the WI-FI antenna works bad it should work bad always. If I install a new custom rom like Viper I can take 5 days with no errors. Then it get started. If I install RUU inmediately once, the problem continues.
I hope I can do something with this beautiful phone, if not, I will throw it out of the window because this is the first one that I can't tame.
Thanks in advance.
Any ideas?
Up!
Anyone?

[Help] My HTC One M8 not booting

Hello everyone. Since the Title has character limit im gonna have to explain myself here better.
Ive had my HTC One M8 for 4 years now. Pretty much since it came out in 2013. I installed ARHD back in 2014 and its been working just fine ever since. A couple of months ago i decided to go back to 45.0. Everything went smooth and everything works just fine.
But a week ago the phone decided to just go woopdido and it wouldnt open up any apps in Playstore although i could still see them. So i tried to restart it and when i did it got stuck at the HTC Logo. I tried to restart it a few times but it kept getting stuck. I was super confused due to the reason that i havent really done anything with my phone besides since the day i installed ARHD 45.0. I got desperate so i reinstalled it but this time with 53.1 and that went fine too except for one fishy thing and that was that i remember before when installing ARHD, when it got 30% it wouldnt take 2-3 minutes for it to finally start installing the ROM. It would take a couple of seconds for it to start right away and be done.
After installing 53.1 phone worked just as fine except for the fact that it was slower than it has ever been before. Which was also weird. Either way. After a couple of hours of it working, setting up every app i needed i restarted it and again it was stuck at the HTC Logo. Welp i guess..
So after that crap i went back to 45.0 again. It went good and all except it keeps getting stuck at 30% for a while but whatever. Going back to 45.0 though didnt help. Keeps repeating the same crap after a while. After a restart when having the phone doing nothing for hours gets it stuck at HTC Logo again. I literally cannot do anything with it atm and i have no clue how to go further from here as i have not had this before.
The HTC One M8 is rooted. S-Off everything you really need. The current TWRP version i have is 3.1.1.0.
Your firmware may be outdated. I would think it would be, as you said you haven't installed anything to the phone since 2014.
This (old firmware) alone would play havoc with the current ROMs. And also not play well with current TWRP, which may explain why going back to ARHD 45 is still resulting in problems.
What goes it day for OS number on the bootloader screen? If blank, what are the hboot and radio numbers?
The original issue could have just be due to some damage or corruption to the OS. It happens.
Also, the phone was released in 2014, not 2013.

You missunderstood me but its all good because its on me. I was meant to say that i havent touched anything since i installed 45.0 a couple of months ago right. The firmware is fine and all for the current version i have. It was for 53.1 too.
And out of the blue it just got stuck on the HTC Logo. I tried something and it was updating the SuperSU which actually was the reason why it got stuck on the HTC Logo. I installed 2.79 and now it boots just fine and the phone is back on speed again. Apparently 2.82 has issues which is the version i assume it tried to update to through both TWRP and Playstore.

Ah, I do see now that you stated you installed ARDH 45 a couple months ago. There is a lot of info there, so I missed that part.
Glad to hear you sorted it out. It's unusual to see a simple SuperSU update cause such a chain of event; but s#it happens I suppose.

Yeah it does. I also forgot to mention that my microphone went to sh*t also. But its not because of this event. Although after this last reinstall i did the microphone picks up my voice better than it did before it went crap. But people cant still hear me when they call me
