couple things. this is the verizon HTC one forum. since you are s on you will need an encrypted ruu to recover that phone or unlock the boot loader via HTC dev assuming this isn't a Verizon phone. you can then flash a custom recovery and flash a custom ROM.

How can i get S-OFF on my HTC M7 with no OS?
if s-on, relock bootloader to flash RUU
Sorry for that, I assumed the procedure would be same as HTC one x. Where I achieved OS by relocking and them flashing ruu.
Dunno what would be good for you. Try searching around...

Hi Guys,
Having Problem in Rooting for my WildFire-A333.
Find Below are my Specifications. And Yes I tried both SuperClick and UnRevoked but it seems doenst work.
Model:HTCWildFire-A333,
S-ON(Unable to do S-OFF),
HBoot:1.02.0000,
Android 2.2.1,
Kernel Version:2.6.32.21-g6c55ee4
HELP!!!!
Thanks
How did you get that hboot, did the phone come with it? Never seen it before. Try to go to revolutionary.io and try to downgrade your hboot so you can s-off. After you have s-off you can then root and custom rom like mad ;-) if you can't downgrade the you can go to htcdev and get your bootloader *unlocked* but that will void your warrenty and they will definitely know about it.

Looks like you have updated the HBOOT from HTCDev site.
If yes you can use HTCDev site Bootloader unlock tool to unlock your bootloader which will make your device rootable. (it will still show S-ON though).
Nop,HBOOT came with this device itself.
i tried both htcdev, they says unable to bootloader for this ROM.
The HBOOT must have been updated somehow. Is it a new phone or did you get it second hand.
Did you try HTCDev method from the steps after the HBOOT update is done.

Nop its not updated it is as it is which i bought almost 1 year ago.
Its Not Second Hand
Yes I tried and result was unsuccessful.(ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED)
it says your rom version is not supported currently, but there will be an update soon that will be supported.
i have selected "hTC Asia India" as carrier. is it wrong??
I believe first you tried to update HBoot which failed then you tried to unlock bootloader without updating HBoot and that also failed.
If that is the case you have two options.
1. Search the forums to downgrade your HBoot to 1.01.0001, if you can successfully downgrade your Hboot you can use Revolutionary to get S-OFF.
2. Wait sometime to see if HTCDev site gets updated with support of your ROM and then try again.
Also if your existing ROM is India specific then you should select "HTC Asia India"
Mine is 2.25.720.1 CL299250 release-keys which is for India.
hello ,
i unlocked my bootloader using htc dev website ,and then i rooted the phone using gingerbreak v1.2.
the phone got rooted successfully but when i tried flashing CM7 on my phone ,through rom manager ,my phone restarted after asking superuser for permission .
after the restart , the phone hangs with a white screen with HTC logo .
i had flashed clockworkmod recovery before getting CM7 .
i tried going to recovery from bootloader and from pc .
please help guys ,i am really stuck in here .
sorry but this may help. Install CM7 using recovery not through rom manager. This may fix your problem.I hope =)

Hi.. u just try rooting your phone again using "unlockroot" one click tool(www.unlockroot.com) (as i did) or use htc super tool ...
Later install cwm recovery via fastboot method..plzz dont do it via rom manager as it just gives a temp recovery...
Then you can install custom rom's by going into cwm recovery..
IMP: make a backup of ur existing rom b4 flashing a custom rom and do a data reset b4 flashing..
hope this helps....

Sorry - I have followed the HTCDev side and I have unlocked the bootloader (it shows nice 'UNLOCKED' on power+volume down on boot). However I cannot find a way to actually root the device. How can I do it?

Follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22011309&postcount=4 post from me. I did it that way and it is the safest way because it does not try to use any kind of hack to root your phone.

Thanks. I have successfully flashed clockworkmod. Then I've made nandroid backup (and flashed cyanogenmode - it seems to be much more responsive).
The only alteration was that I have used the fastboot utility from Google Android SDK.

Happy that you succeeded.
The fastboot utility you needed to download from the suggested post was also from Google Android SDK albeit an older version.

you can try that ... just make a nandroid backup to your ext_sd before you start
Thanks for helping i'll try it later
With S-off, I believe you can flash virtually any hboot meant for the M8 (CDMA, dual SIM, and probably Taiwanese variants excluded).
But I'm not sure you need to flash a different hboot to do the thing you linked.
Also be very careful, as flashing hboot is one of the few ways to actually brick the phone.
If its gsm you can't flash a CDMA hboot or firmware it will inevitably hard brick

Hey guys as the Title says I'm Currently S-On, Rooted and Running ARHD 22.1 on my One M8 Euro/International which is Unlocked Using 3.401.9 firmware.
How do I go about returning everything to Stock as the Guide I have found assumes I have S-off which I dont/cant do due to it saying device incompatible.
Any helps much appreciated
Anyone Able to help as I really don't Fancy having a Bricked Handset
My guide needs S-OFF for some parts but the rest can be followed if you're S-ON. There is an RUU ZIP which might also work for you, so perhaps give that a go...
you'll have to relock the bootloader if you are s-on and then flash an RUU for your phone model to return to stock

Error 155 is usually a firmware or HTC signigature issue.. just flash the old lp firmware and run the ruu. Gotta downgrade firmware before the ruu will match the signatures.

Not possible on S-On, only on S-Off
And to OP ... make sure you don't flash a GSM firmware on your Sprint device, it may brick the radio or totally brick it.

I am planning to use this RUU for downgrading to Lollipop:
lollypop:
RUU_M8_WHL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_4.25.651 .14_Radio_1.09.20.0209_NV_SPCS_1.52_003_release_42 6232_signed_2
http://www.droidviews.com/restore-sprint-htc-one-m8-to-stock-rom-with-ruu/
I have flashed this firmware:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952612412
Now trying to flash lollipop, hope it will work!
It worked.. thanks for the help.
Can someone explain step by step of downgrading please.I have Sprin HTC One 8 . I hate marshmallow , my phone battery is drained after couple hours, it's warming up, I lost my contacts, contacts don't want to sync from FB etc. How I can downgrade back to previous software. Thank you.
I want to down grade because the phone is horribly slow since upgrading to 6.

Cool. So what is the question?
There is some info on the thread about how to downgrade. But to be any more specific, you need to give some info about your phone (fastboot getvar all, and post the results - delete your IMEI and serial number before posting).
Frustrating
This is very frustrating, I can not downgrade due to the firmware issue. Where can I get an older firmware for
a developer phone, s-off and bs_us001?
tpteam6, how did you find yours? I search, but found nothing. Some twrp nand backup stuff.
hey guys
i have back to stock 4.16 with Twrp backup and i installed stock recovery for 4.16 now iam s-on unlocked bootloader , i got message to update to 6.12 , is it ok to install it ? or does it work with no problem?
Best Regards.
Needs to be stock, never rooted TWRP backup (unrooting doesn't work).
If its says "software official" (I think that is what it says, something to that effect) on the bootloader screen, it should be okay.
If it says "software modified", than OTA will likely not install.

RUU should work (doesn't matter if phone is rooted or custom recovery) as long as OP relocks the bootloader. Although its not clear if OP wants to keep their data (which restoring to stock and OTA should be able to do) which is what some folks want. RUU will wipe the phone.
