[Q] How easy for noob root? Pro 8.4 - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Q&A, Help & Trouble

Galaxy Pro 8.4 NE3 BTU firmware
Total noob when it comes to rooting, so maybe someone can take the time to explain what it's all about to me? What benefits are there over the stock installation that you get? Do you need root access if you just surf the net, use Facebook , play games and email? Are there significant advantages in having a rooted device for the average user? ROM's? Is it easy to do? How do you recover things if it all goes wrong or you change your mind?
I think the last point worries me the most ... I'd :crying: if I bricked my tab!

I rooted SM-T320 using towelroot which is an apk file that is downloaded to your tablet/phone and run from the device ( www.towelroot.com ). No need to connect to you PC. Lots of info on this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157 . There is a lot of information and you should read it all. It took me less than 5 mins. to root my tab 8.4. A couple of small hiccups. SuperSu hung trying to disable Knox, but a reboot and running SuperSu, Knox was disabled with no problem. The other issue occurred with the reboot to disable Knox. There was no connection to the Play Store. For some reason the date had changed to an earlier date and time. When I reset the date and time I was able to access the play store again. The best news was that it appears that Knox was not tripped. My reason for rooting was to be able to fully access my external sd card and also be able to remove some of the Samsung Apps that I will never use and is taking valuable storage space as well as hogging memory. According to everything that I read in the above thread the chances of bricking your device is almost 0%. If you change your ming after you root you can use SuperSu to get back to a fully Un-rooted state.

SM-P600

Hi All
Let me start with few good things here You guys are amazing helping and providing tweaks for us:good:
I am Nexus user. I have Installed Custom Recovery, Flashed ROMs and rooted my Nexus 4 and Nexus 5. This is my First Samsung Tablet. I have waited enough for Nexus 10 (2). I finally bought SM-P600.
I was trying to find an Guide with links for Unlocking bootloader and Updating firmware and then flash Custom recovery for this but coudnt figure it out
I have been reading lots of things about Knox and counters related to it.
Can anyone Please help me find answers straight.
1) Any Rooting and Custom Recovery tools or ADB commands without Hitting the KNOX counter {Just In case IF I wanted to return it} If not then which one you recommend ?
By the Way I found few posts related to Rooting Which has confused me more. I used to use Chainfire SUROOT:
Rooting using CF-AUTO Root
Universal Root de la Vega
2) If I Root and want to use Stock ROM of SM-P600 will all apps work normally or any known issues with it ?
3) Is Odin any tool which everyone is taking about ? I am not sure about it Can you provide any links to its dev for more info. Found it about in a Post to return to STOCK ?
4) Are these ROMS and apps Odexed or Deodexed ROM?
5) Any Dependencies for Firmware and with any of the above questions. I mean In Universal Root I saw they were talking about certain version of firmware. Also Should I update the latest firmware and do a Nandriod backup ?
6) Also read that once KNOX counter goes up, I wont get any OTA ? My Plan is I will use it till next Nexus and will give it to parents with stock ROM. If I am using I can always use an Custom Rom and get updates. But for parents I want to return it to stock so that they can easily update when OTA is available.
I would like to make one more suggestion to MOD's Please Pin the Guides like the Rooting and stuff like Return to Stock which are quite common and useful so that its easy for newbies( aka for Samsung) like me.
Thanks
Zaib.
1. This is not really a single question with a single answer I think vaguely what you are asking is if you can root without tripping knox?
Nope. Not at this time.
2. If you use CF-Auto-Root you'll likely find that the vast majority of applications keep working without issue. Of those that don't, a handful you can manage back to a working state with various tweaks, but there are a few that are probably gone for good. You can basically kiss all the Samsung hub apps goodbye, these will start claiming they are not supported in your country even if they were working perfectly prior to rooting, some may continue working for a short time after but eventually something leaks and your access is cut. Screen mirroring will no longer work though this can be fixed with a small zip file flash. OTA updates are also gone.
Forget all the talk about 'triangle away' fixing any of this, it hasn't for me.
3. Odin is a tool that is able to flash firmware files or parts thereof to your device. Heimdall is an alternative suite of applications, while there is a GUI for it, it seems fairly hit and miss on Linux these days, I've never had much luck with it, on the other hand the command line tools work perfectly fine.
Once you trip Knox, there's no turning back! You won't lose your warranty in any meaningful way, but you may end up having to argue about it and drag in government regulators to get your tablet repaired free of charge depending on the dealer response.
4. I don't think this is particularly relevant to the SM-P600. My subjective opinion would be to stick with the bog standard Samsung ROM. If you want cool themes there are a multitude of launchers, Xposed takes care most other things you might ever care to tweak.
5. You have one choice. CF-Auto-Root. Backups are healthy.
6. True, but you'll still be able to flash via Odin so it doesn't really mean much of anything. Once you trip Knox, you can also kiss OTA updates goodbye as well.

[Q] GT-N5100 Italian 3g - to root or not to root

Hello fellow androidians
I am here because I desperately need to play Baldurs Gate on my Note 8 but Kies won't update my device - as far as I can understand, the Italian model is not exactly looked after and it's still running 4.1.2. So I won't be able to move stuff to the sd card for a while.
I have a few questions regarding this issue:
Can I safely root it?
And if I root it I can still use the base android or am I to flash a custom rom?
I would like to keep S Note which I use a lot, so any suggestion here is highly appreciated.
Will rooting mean loosing all the stuff I have in my galleries or will it be possible to root without a backup?
After years of Android use I collected a lot of memorabilia, which position and time of download is very precious to me. Call me ocd and you won't be wrong.
In case I will go for the root, will the tips provided here work on my model baseband version N5100XXBMC8?
I would be much happier if I had the possibility of updating to kit kat straight away, but this seems unlikely
How silly of me thinking Italian carriers would update my little treasure!
Normally you will not loose any data when you root your device. Base will not change. No need to flash a Custom Rom. So root your origunal 4.1.2 and finished.

[Q] How to stop KNOX?

Well first, I am new here, so hi!
Second, I have spent hours researching this and if I can get this to work it seems like the best way to root my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 SM-T217s.
Now... On my unrooted, regular, tablet, how can I stop KNOX? When I use Kingo ROOT to try and root it, the tablet has a notification that says it blocked an unsecure app from using some areas. (or something like that). If I go to that, I have to tap update policies and then it says it is updated and brings up the application in settings. From here I cannot do anything with the app, other than force stop, which doesn't work.
So... I need to know, how can I stop KNOX from keeping me from rooting with Kingo ROOT?
If this is not possible, are there any other easy ways to root? I don't really get all this flashy ROM things.
EDIT:
I have spent hours without any solution to this I meant.
Also, sorry if this is wrong area... But since KNOX is an app thought it went here

S6 Edge Root

Hi guys i havent been in the forums in a while and i thoght about rooting my device cause i formatted my phone and lost a bunch of pics that i want to recover. long story short i have tryied many apps and none seem to be able to recover the deleted pics. the only one so far that people claim that can do it is DiskDigger or something like it, but for it to fully work it needs ROOT. so my problem is that unless there is a 100% way of getting my deleted pics which at this point i doubt, then lets please proceed.
Since i need to ROOT im gonna give you guys my phone specs so you guys can get a picture and advice me better cause i dont want to mess up this phone cause is my daily driver.

is everything here ok? does anything seem ok in my phone? is it rootable?
ok first of all let me say that i do not care about the pay methods but i do care about losing other functionality like fingerprint scanner of LTE and less battery life and stuff like that. mine last me about a whole day with moderate use and some gaming in between.
i want basically to ROOT my phone and if possible and available without tripping the cursed knox so i can if available intall a custom recovery so i can backup and restore my phone from (on that actually works) cause i coulnt for the life of my phone NEVER restore from an image done by my S4 with TWRP or i never knew how to do it cause when i tryied it to fully wipe ended up having to reinstall the full firmware and rooting from scratch.
Also if available which apps and in which directories can be frozen and which ones can be unistalled cause im tired of facebook and instagram and Tmo useless crapware.
Sorry for the long and winded speech but this phone is almost a $1000 and i dont have insurance anymore and if knox tripped samsung wont fix or exchange.
thanks in advanced
have a nice day
sorry for the length again
Apparently you have done some reading (and if not, start reading) because you are mentioning all or most of the issues that some folks are experiencing with this phone when attempting to root with latest firmware updates. ( Not to mention the bricks. )
At first release it was possible with little consequences but that changed in a hurry with updates and with every update it becomes harder and more dangerous to root safely.
There is very little going on in development, just some rehashed versions of the old firmware and in the international forum there are some roms that lose a lot of features you want.
If you really need and rely on your expensive phone and need all features working, leave it stock.
As for your lost images, well your going to have to use your imagination and try to remember what they were.
I was a diehard rooter with all my devices until I met up with this Samsung 6Edge, I love the phone and am a big fan of Samsung so I'm sticking with stock debloated for now, I'm learning to live "stock" and enjoying my phone with all features working properly.

How do you debloat if you don't have root? are you just disabling the bloatware apps?

Yes, disabling all and any bloatware that gives you the option to disable.
When my phone is sitting idle it goes into 99% deep sleep.
With light use I'll get 30 + hours from a charge.
I don't subscribe to Facebook or any of those social media apps and for games I have a Tab2 running CM. I basically use my phone for calls, messages and photos and a couple of forums.

Sample of disabled apps.

I agree with @PanchoPlanet to an extent. There are 2 ways to root the S6 Edge right now. One works just fine with no issues. I have been rooted since I bought the device before Samsung Pay came out. The other way that people have been using to avoid tripping knox will screw up your phone. If you don't care about Samsung Pay then you can simply use CF-Auto root like always. then flash TWRP after you root. The only thing that has made rooting unsafe is the people trying to avoid knox. I keep posting everywhere that people need to stop worrying about knox. Unless you are in a security job or a government job or you want to use Samsung Pay then knox is absolutely of no concern. People worried about getting their device fixed or returning it because of the knox trip, I have read many people were able to without problems.

Help!!! Something is wrong with my Samsung S3 Grand Duos GTi9082l

Hi guys. I'm new at forum. In case i may repeat some thread, i'm deeply sorry but i'm very desperate, 'cause i really not understanding.
Root is new for me. However in the last 3 weeks i keep learning about all of it, mainly observing this forum. I even could root another phones, purchased recently. The problem is that my Samsung is not accepting any kind of root , being programs of "one-click" or even flash recover process. I have already watched a billion tutorials but i can manage to make it work. For your information:
- One-click Programs using PC (used: Kingo Root, Root Genius, SRS and etc....)
Process starts nicelly and countdown of percentages are slow, but work. However, in some point, with all this programs, the phone reboots itself, not as the way that should be, breaking the process. So the root's not succeed.
- ODIN/CWM/Supersu
I managed to place a custom Rom using Odin and install super su using flash recovery following the same procedures as everyone. But, when phone reboots, not only the root is not available but the supersu is having that "binary error" thing. I know that this is not a problem of the program, but something odd about the rooting process.
I got all samsung drivers updated. Does someone can help me out with this blast phone? I never thought that trying to root a samsung phone would be so dificult. Never again a Samsung Phone, since i cannot be master of my own phone.
Phone model: Samsung S3 Grand duos GT i9082l
Android ver.: 4.2.2
Rooting will be very difficult at first.I also faced many problems when I first rooted my device. At last after using many apps I successfully rooted my phone using Root Genius
★ try to use non samsung usb
★ use different ports
★ make sure that you enabled usb debugging
★ try on different pc/laptop
............but later I learned how to root using odin..
But my favourite method is one click root app named kingroot mobile apk(try 3 times atleast)..
