New to galaxy - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be getting a new 7 inch galaxy tab 3 tomorrow.
On all my previous android devices I have root and rom'd and I will probably do the same here...
Any suggestions on must haves and must nots? Would be very appreciated!
The only Samsung I have ever rooted was an old galaxy several years ago...is Odin still the way to go? I think that's what it was called...
Is there kit kat available for this tab?

To root you must also use Odin for flashing Recovery and root.
Depent of what kind of Tab you have , so you become KK.
Tab3 SM-T217 S has KK now from Samsung
all other has V 4.1.2 or the Tab 3lite has V4.2.2

The SM-T210 & R currently have no stock KK. But there are some KK roms being developed currently.
I would not hope to get KK yet for you since it has a few bugs and since Tab 3 7.0 is
neglected over the 8.0 and 10.0. Your best bet for now is to root your Tab and
flash a custom ROM on it so it will get rid of the bloatware and speed it up.

Thanks for the replies
I finally got it and its the sm-t110 I think?
Anyways i updated all the software updates out of the box then followed some guide ( don't have the link sorry ) and using odin flashed twrp.
Then I flashed a lite ROM from a thread here on xda.
Everything is running great, no issues what so ever as of now.
I do have a question about restoring to stock.
If I ever want to, if I use Odin to flash the stock firmware will it give me the stock recovery back?
Thanks in advance

Rooting process the same for the T-Mobile T989 and Koodo T989D?

Hi everybody, I recently got a Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D and I wanted to know if the rooting process for my device is the same as the rooting process for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989. I realize there is no section for Koodo's (or Telus') version of the phone on the website, so I had to post here.

You betcha! There is a forum here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434
I used this method and it worked great! Just make sure you use the 3.0.7 efghi signed version of Superuser. I managed to use the other one, but i got the superuser app, but no root access until I used the correct version
Anyway, there you are. Enjoy your SII X!

thanks! I was going to use that guide or the galaxy 2 root "How to Root ICS/GB on T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989!"
but both should work though. The guide you sent me says it's for 4.0.3, will it work for 4.0.4? And you're with Koodo right?

I used the guide on Android forums, only because there were pics, but both work and are the same. And yes, same procees, just use the Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version. And yup! No issues with Koodo whatsoever.

Oh okay, so did you use the process from the link you sent? And it seems the main difference between the two guides is that one uses Superuser 3.0.7 efghi signed version and one uses CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip. While they both should work, I was wondering what the differences between the Superusers were; I think 0.87 is better because it is compatible with future firmware upgrades

Well, there was a link to this guide on that forum -
http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-...d-ultimate-root-optimization-guide-steps.html
I used this guide only because it had a few more details than the other, but they are essentially the same steps. Also had some pics.
And about the superusers, i don't know the difference. However I was able to install superSU from the Play Store and also update the superuser version I was using after I obtained root.
So to answer your question, I have no idea haha. Personally I think it would be best to follow the guide, and then try to upgrade after rooting, but it's your choice.
Hopefully this helps, but if not, search is your friend

I sure was. I'm still using it because a few of the ICS roms are a little buggy. I've heard Jedi Mind Trick is pretty good tho. I just wanted something stable and bug free Stock with root woo!
And a little question. I think you are using one too many 8's. Your phone an SGH-T989D correct?

Telus T989D here and flashed using the method in the 2nd post worked perfectly. Used TWRP instead of CWM, rooted easily, even flashed radios (so I could unlock my SIM) back and forth, and installed AOKP.

Hey. i now you are saying that the rooting proccess is the same but do you know if all of the roms and customizations are the same? i am wanting to put CyanogenMod 10.1 RC3 on my Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T9898D but everything i am seeing is for T-Mobile.
Model number: SGH-T989D
Android version:4.1.2
any other details needed to find out which will work just let me know.
generally everything is mostly the same the only thing you might have issues with is your data you might have to find the APN settings for KODO and make sure to flash the newest radio MC6

People come to this thread for rooting, custom ROMS, ect....so I think this is a great place for this thread so they can find all guides in one place.
I agree that this should be in General.
Techfanatic9, this is good work and you keep supporting it which is great, but this would be better served in General.

No it won't root you either. You can use kingo root or downgrade to 4.1.2 and install a prerooted 4.3 ROM.

Yes you can. If you are rooted you can flash any Knox free ROM. That includes 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 ROM. I'm currently on Insane KitKat its a great ROM.

You mean TWRP?I was a long time user of the S3 myself. I've stayed away from Aosp because for some reason it breaks functions when I go back to Touchwiz. It did very well for me when I used HTC devices but not Samsung.

No I meant TPR as in a ROM called The Peoples ROM, my GS3 was on Sprint and being new to rooting anything that advanced TPR was the closest to stock with no sprint bloat ware in it,
I have since learned how to add and remove what I want to make a ROM customized to my personal needs and wants. Is, I like adding Kii keyboard into a ROM before flashing, since I love it so much I bought it

ROM search

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I have a Note 10.1 (2014) WiFi US tablet and a Note 8 WiFi US tablet. I need to use one of them for work, and rooted ROMs are checked and forbidden with my work apps. However I would need a Marshmallow ROM to fully use the SD card on an unrooted tablet. Is there a Marshmallow ROM that is not rooted or can be unrooted that could be used on either of these tablets?
Thanks to anyone who can help!
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
You can look in the forums to find MM roms. They will be all custom roms since samsung no longer supports these devices. There are ways to remove root. Once you upgrade past JB , you cant go back.
