[Q] Unable to S-Off by firewater - am I tne only unhappy? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, recently I have bought an M8, unlocked it's bootloader via HTCDev, installed latest TWRP, rooted it by flashing SuperSU zip, and while trying to S-Off, got message that it doesn't work on my phone yet, so no S-Off available.
May be I'm doing something wrong?

Does anybody here with the same phone S-Off'ed it via firewater?

You're doing nothing wrong, your phone just isn't compatible at this time (and maybe never)...nothing you can do other than voice your concerns in this thread...

Did you ota before unlocking? I believe HTC patched the exploit with the latest update.

He's on 1.54.401.10 (the latest) so I'll assume so (or the person the OP bought it from did)

Thanks. Yes, I had installed some OTAs. They arrived too quickly, before I have read detailed S-off manuals.

Ota is not the issue ! I s-offed mine and was on 1.54.401.10.......that's a myth !

It won't show anything, it's a hardware change between M8 handsets and some work others won't. If yours doesn't work now, it won't work ever unless the firewater (or other devs) get it working...

I doubt it's hardware, if it's implemented in the first place it must be software especially seeing as s-off can be achieved on any device with a java card, apparently.

I'm only going on what was said in the firewater thread when it was first released. Apparently there's a check and if your phone gives a certain result it means your phone won't work...

I can post my "all info" but it won't be of any use ! It works or it doesn't......

ok, will wait.

some CIDs are unsupported till now, you can see it's the problem of many:

It will really be helpful.
Thanks in advance

If firewater doesn't work the only option is sunshine. No other way.

Yes and ? That's a fair price for s-off. The profit you gain for having it is well worth the money....
- lock the bootloader again
- flash recoveries from within the recovery or app. In other words no pc needed anymore
- return the phone back to stock 100% for warranty issues.
- down and upgrade the hboot anytime
- flash any firmware to convert the phone as it's unbranded if you have a branded one.
All nice examples.
And the choice to buy it or not is in the hands of the user. People should not complain that it cost a bit, be happy it's there. The firewater team also invested in the exploit, especially time and maybe also some bricked devices.
Cheers.

The Firewater team IS the Sunshine team
They were going to charge eventually, seeing as up til now it's been optional (and I'm gonna assume most didn't donate)

What i meant to say was that a user can invest in their s-off, because firewater team also did that with making sunshine

whelp, this sucks, firewater can not work on your device
no amount of reflashing, retrying, or ruuing will fix...
DO NOT COME TO IRC ASKING FOR UPDATES OR ETAS!!!!!!
if we are able to fix this issue, it will be announced
bye bye.....sorry it didn't work out.
It means you have either the newest hboot or a version of the phone that doesn't work with Firewater. I'm on the same boat as you. Your only options are deal with S-ON until a true developer releases a free method or pay the ridiculous $25 per phone at theroot.ninja for S-OFF.

bear in mind, not everyone can work for free and real dev's have bills to pay, $25 is not a lot of money for the work and many many hours these guys put into research and development, just to get it working for a ridiculous charge of $25.
Is the "25$ dollar discussion" opened again here.....
Can't s-off with firewater than do it with sunshine and pay the 25$. If you don't like it/dont want to pay that amount than stop posting how you dislike the fee !

The free exploit (Firewater) will not work with HBoot 3.16, only Sunshine ($25) will work. However, you can still feel free to attempt the free method nonetheless at Firewater S-OFF's website

I can't tell, it would endanger the sunshine exploit. But when firewater fails, sunshine is the way to go !

As you can see, my CID is "HTC_332" and my version-main: 1.57.599.1. I installed a custom recovery (TWRP) and I forgot to backup my stock recovery now I can't receive OTA updates (doubting that I receive something as my phone is from Latin America...).
The thing is I have download a 1.54.401.10 nandroid backup and also the 1.54.401.10 stock recovery (both from Europe), my phone has bootloader unlock and S-ON. I was able to do a restored from a nandroid backup and also flash the stock recovery (also both from Europe). After this my phone is working just fine, still on my bootloader shows "TAMPERED" and "Unlocked".
Well my question is this, after doing this am I going to be able to receive OTA's updates even if my phone has CID from Latin America (htc_332) ?
It is going to affect something because I flashed an Europe Firmware and stock recovery on my phone?
What is the difference between Firmware 1.57.599.1 and 1.54.401.10? (which one is better or which one you guys recommend?)
Thanks in advance for any info.

You will receive OTA but it will fail the verification and you won't be able to install it.
What you have now is same as you flash a custom ROM. No working OTA for your device.
You can only do OTA with your own stock ROM and stock Recovery.

Thank you for the Quick respond, is there a way to get the stock recovery for my version-main: 1.57.599.1?
What about if I change my CID to SuperCID will be able to receive OTA updates with the European Stock ROM?
I don't see anywhere stock recovery 1.57.599.1, only see one backup.
You can only change to SuperCID when your device is S-Off.
To receive and install European OTA, you need S-Off then change to any EU CID (a few of them) or SuperCID and change your MID currently 0P6B16000 to 0P6B10000

Hi Folks,
I just S-OFF my HTC One M8, Change my MID to 0P6B10000 install a stock rom (1.54.401.10) and also its Stock Recovery. After that I remove the tampered and the unlock notification, I ran the "Check Update"and SCORE!!! I receive an OTA Update. Now my question is this: If I change my MID to the Unlocked one (0P6B12000) Do I will receive OTAS anyways? (even if my bootloader is unlocked and my phone is rooted)
Thanks again.

IMEI is personal information, and you do NOT want it posted on the internet. You really should delete it from the first post.

You will be, as long as MID, CID and stock ROM (as well as FW of course) you installed all match each other, as those things are what the OTA server is going to check and match.

Will I be able to get OTAS even if I change my MID to the Unlocked one?

Your MID don't has to be changed, as it is the HTC WWE MID. and with superCID you definitely will receive OTA.
HTC WWE is in fact the best MID you could have, as far as I can imagine

I am tying to get s-off but after trying firewater tells me I can't and don't try again as it still won't work. I have attached screen shot to show the output and also my getvar all.
Is my phone not able to get S-Off?

As you appear to be on the latest bootloader 3.18, you would probably need to use Sunshine if Firewater isnt working.

Thanks for that,I'll wait a little longer. I don't mind supporting Devs etc but I think $25 is a bit steep.

Depends which way you look at it, if you unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and custom ROM and something goes wrong and you need to take it into service for warranty repair. How much will they charge you extra if they see that you tampered with the device?
$25 vs $ ?
Besides, they also need to make up for the devices they might have lost. The means don't just get to them out of the blue, I'm sure they probably bricked and lost a couple of devices in search for the exploit to grant us S-OFF.
Steep $25 vs $700 * number of devices lost + personal time it took to write the code etc.
Oh well, to each his own though

Have you unlocked your bootloader and rooted so far then? I wont be going s off right now but considering unlocking the bootloader and rooting. Mainly just having root would be useful to remove some bloat that I dont use. Although the sunshine tool is handy as you can unlock the bootloader, root and s off all in one go.

I have unlocked, rooted and using Viperom at the moment. I just wanted to change the splash screen from the '3' network. I will consider Sunshine at a later date.

[Q] Cannot unlock bootloader, rumrunner fails!

Ive tried so many different methods. Currently running HTC Sense 6, KitKat 4.4.3, hboot 1.55
Rumrunner goes through the first 3 steps but when it tries to connect to ADB again it just says the following:
Code:
Rebooting into bootloader <again>
Waiting for fastboot <7/120>
Waiting for adb <43/120>
Waiting for device
Waiting for device
really dumb issues you have. you suck..
ERROR: run rumrunner again..
Press ENTER to exit
If anyone could help me please achieve S-OFF so I may flash CM12 to my device.
All help is welcome. Thanks!

There is not. Sorry. If it was such a simple tweak there would be.
But again there is not.
So there is absolutely no other method for this phone right now other then paying $25?

Not on the vzw m7 running the latest os.
Sorry.
Was this phone unlocked previously? For 4.4.3 you should have a newer hboot?

Rumrunner stopped working after 2.x.x.x firmware iirc.
Firewater has supposedly worked for some on 443. They had to of tried many many times for it to work though.

Can you still doublecheck that hboot version? Shouldn't be 1.55 on the latest. If it is, are you sure you aren't unlocked or s-off?
Can you run the command
Fastboot getvar all
While in fastboot and paste the output into your reply here. Blank out your serial number and imei

See if the steps detailed on the last page of the following thread enable you to temp root at all..

You can't.
Sunshine is the only way.
I actually unlocked mine without Sunshine. Some cellphone repair in our place has this thing called XTC2clip that unlocked mine, hopefully you could find someone with that. I'm from the Philippines

The device itself costs $100 US, or you have to find a repair shop which is going to charge you a fee, anyway. So yes, technically there is another way (this looks similar or same as javacard, which is known about) but not one that really adds any value (or is free). Most folks are looking for a free "hack" or to make firewater work, and neither of those are going to happen.
Most things can be done without s-off. Why pay $25 for nothing?

Had to for Verizon version as its the only way to unlock bootloader. HTC dev doesn't work on verizon
would it be worth it to be able to update the radios on the M8?

You can update radio with s-on by flashing RUU (if you version has it) or signed firmware; or simply installing OTA update. You would only need s-off, if you intend to flash another versions (different CID) firmware, radio baseband, or RUU; or "downgrade" to an older RUU, firmware for your version.
