[Q] Did I get hosed on this M8? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Purchased M8 in Hong Kong, then returned to the U.S., put in my T-Mobile SIM
Problem #1
I don't get 4G or LTE on T-Mobile. 2G/3G/HSPA all work fine. Tried every setting and tutorial out there and nothing works. T-Mobile said it should work, but Hong Kong M8 might be different and they can't help. Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening?
Problem #2
Rear Camera buzzes and shakes, can't focus anymore. It's a known hardware issue for people that ride motorcycles. Camera is hosed, HTC USA won't help me, so I need to send it back to Hong Kong. During the troubleshooting, I try doing a couple factory resets and notice this.

It looks to me like this phone has S-OFF. I never did this, so I'm guessing it was a trade in and the re-seller hosed me with a used M8? I'm assuming that line showing M8_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF means this phone is S-OFF. That being the case, I'm also guessing HTC Hong Kong is going to tell me I have no warranty? I can't go back to Hong Kong and fight the shop I bought it from, so can anyone point me to the exact instructions for getting back to what HTC Hong Kong expects to see when I send it in for warranty?
Many Thanks

Well, I can tell you that it looks like a genuine HK model. It's locked, not relocked, so that's good. S-Off is rare out of the factory, but it's easy to put it S-On. I'm reticent to tell you how though, because unless it is all actually stock, you might brick it.

Looking at a few sources online, the band compatibility on the HK is as follows:
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
LTE 700 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600
T-Mobile uses 1700 MHz (Band 4) for LTE. This band is not supported by the HK variant, so you will not get LTE on T-Mobile.
Also, T-Mobile primarily uses 1700/2100 Mhz (AWS or Band 4) for HSPA, and 1900 Mhz in select markets. The HK variant is compatible with 1900 Mhz, but not AWS. So the fact that you have 3G/HSPA suggests that you are in one of the 1900 MHz markets. But you may find if you roam outside the 1900 MHz market areas, you will only have EDGE.

S-off from the factory is rare, but not unheard of. Difficult to tell if this is the case, or if the phone has been tampered with.

T-Mobile Rhodium spotted on FCC as NM8RHOD210

So the previous filling which was found in early april (filed on Feb 11, 2009) and was though to be t-mobile's rhodium although the test report showed it was sporting At&t's 3G bands, 1900 and 850MHz, is now outlived by a newer filing.
Issue date April 02, 2009 FCC ID NM8RHOD210 with t-mobile's 3G 1900mhz and 1700mhz

You guys think since the At&t banded rhodium was filed earlier that it would be released before t-mobile's RHOD210?

wow, your still on a wing!? I've got a classmate thats still using it with the original shipped rom from when it first came out! I hope you've atleast updated yours.
I thought T-Mobile 3G freq. is 1700/2100 AWS... Where's the 2100 freq. in the FCC docs? I couldn't find it...
OPPS... nevermind. I just checked the FCC docs for the htc dream (aka G1) and they only list the 1700 AWS downlink freq. also. So... I wonder what the 1900 WCDMA band is for? It's BAND I, so does that mean Europe or possibly for AT&T also?! I thought Band II was 1900...

Band I = 1900Mhz uplink and 2100Mhz downlink but it's preferred to as UMTS 2100Mhz.

Thanks for clearing that up! The Wiki definitions weren't that clear to me...
fone_fantatic, I was wondering that same thing, in regards to the dates of the FCC filings. Everything is of course rumors at this point, but it's been said that T-Mobile will be selling it first. However, as you said, the first model to pass FCC was clearly not T-Mo, contrary to original postings. Thing is, that doesn't confirm or deny anything either. T-Mobile could still have rights to selling the phone first. We do at least have a rumored (there's that word again) date on T-Mobile, but I haven't heard a word about an at&t release, though the TP2 is clearly listed for them in that HTC roadmap layout.

If I buy this is there any way to sim unlock it?
The only problem is that this phone probably doesn't support HSPA 1700 band, so can't be used on T-Mobile, Mobilicity, Wind.
Althought it uses AWS, but that's LTE AWS, not HSPA AWS, not the same AWS that T-Mobile/Mobilicity/Wind uses.
and we found out the signal used it's actually different the normal AWS band was 800, and LTE was using the normal AWS bands

Any idea on how to unlock the SGS2 LTE from Rogers? Is it sim unlockable?
Is it the same as At&T SGS2? or more like the T-mobile SGS2?
as mentioned earlier it's the same Hercules design, just using a different radio
so, yes you can get it SIM unlocked
My understanding is that this phone has:
GSM: quad band
WCDMA: 900, 1900, 2100, (no 1700)
LTE: 800 (AWS)
So it means it can't be used on T-Mobile. Am I right?
get the Telus or Tmobile version if you want to use it on Mobilicity, WIND or the quebec one... forgot name

Which U.S. carriers have Touch Pro2 with GSM

Hi, guys.
I have been thinking of buying a Touch Pro2 from ebay, but got totally confused.
I need the phone with GSM support, and from what i could see, the ones from T-Mobile and AT&T have that. Then there is this U.S. Cellular carrier. Some sellers list it as GSM capable, but the official HTC website tells otherwise. And there are other carriers too!
Would someone from the U.S. make a little guide for me, please, on which carriers did provide Touch Pro2 with 100% GSM support?
Thanks a lot!

Well here's where it gets confusing - ALL RHOD's have GSM radios. Even the CDMA ones - they were sold as "world" phones, so they had GSM radios and SIM slots.
Now your question probably pertains to which frequency is supported, and for that you'll have to look up specs. GSM arena or something like that would probably have the bands supported. Make sure whatever phone you're buying supports the bands you need for 3g.
With that said, any RHOD will work... but will it work on 3g... I don't know. You didn't even say what carrier you want.
I am from Ukraine, so Quad Band GSM capability is preferable, 'cause if I'm not mistaken, our domestic carriers are 2G and use GSM 900/1800.
So, by saying that all Rhodiums have GSM radios you mean that I can buy a U.S. Sprint branded Touch Pro2 (which is listed as CDMA only, and which I like the most by its looks ) and can still use it on a GSM network? That's terrific news, even if flashing a ROM or a radio is needed, but... Are you ABSOLUTELY 100% sure about that?

I have a Sprint TP2, and it does in fact have a GSM radio/SIM slot. However, I'm not that familiar with the device and what bands it supports.
The RHOD400/500 is more desirable IMHO, because it has a dedicated 3.5mm jack for headphones .
Let me see if I can find official band info.
Hopefully this image helps:

I'm not that concerned about the phone having a 3.5 slot, as about it being capable to make a call LOL! Still, from what I can see at the official HTC website, only the T-Mobile and AT&T version do not have it.
Also, thank you for the link! The thread explains a lot!

None of the GSM-only variants (RHOD100, 110, 210, 300) have 3.5mm jacks. Good luck.
I was just in kiev and travelled to uman with a sprint touch pro 2. I bought a life sim card and it worked great. was making international calls on skype over 3g travelling 70mph and it was pretty decent.

[REQ] Aussie radios

Hey fellow Aussies
I'm hoping some of you on here have recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus with either Optus or Telstra (and soon, Vodafone).
If you have, it would be really helpful to the community if you could post your radios, for us poor people who obtained phones other than from the carriers, and as such have radios that may not be optimised for use in Australia.
I'm hoping somebody can post a way for people to do this if they don't already know how. I know how to do it if you're already rooted, but I'd rather somebody with more knowledge make a post outlining all the options and explaining them concisely.
Thanks in advance
All the other Aussie Galaxy Nexus owners.
I purchased mine from the UK, which has the XXKK1(?) radio in it.
My mate just got his from optus, and it has the same radio in it.
In fact, it is the same phone but packaged with an australian charger.
There is no bloatware, nor seems to be any changes to the firmware or radio at all.
Can't vouch for Telstra - yet. I work for them so I can report back tomorrow with that info but it looks like it will again be the same radio if this one is anything to go by.
I'm using my GN on Telstra, and I'm getting 11 mbps speeds. It really comes down to the network, but yes I also want to get the best out of my radio
You should use a Euro radio for 900/1800 bands eg XXKK1 or XWKK6, and a US radio for 850/1900 bands eg UGKK7 or UGKL1.
Australia uses 900/1800 bands so the euro radio you have is totally fine.
Yeah, I just managed to get somebody who purchased from Optus to post their build.prop, and it seems to be just a European handset.
Here's the build.prop for anyone who's interested.

Australia uses all the main 3G bands.
Telstra - 850 and sometimes 2100 (being decommissioned)
Optus 900 / 2100 (in dual band format)
Vodafone 2100 but now rolling out an 850 network.
Telstra LTE (4G) is using the 1800 mhz band, which is combined with 850 to fall back on.
Screen shots cause I'm lazy...
Bought mine from handtec, using it on telstra...

Getting NextG optimised on Galacy Nexus grey
Telstra Nexus has following specs:
Android Version: 4.0.1
Baseband Version: I9250TDVKK6
Kernel Version: 3.0.1-ga052f63 [email protected] #1
Build Number: ITL41F.I9250TDVKK6
I have the grey with Baseband Version: I9250XXKK1 and my SIM is a Telstra NextG but I think because of diffeent baseband my reception is poor from -80dBm to -110dBm.
Has anyone ane ideas. PS I'm a dreaded android noob.
Theres a radio in the Dev section now, can someone zip it up so I can flash it please?
Having huge reception issues with Telstra atm. Its fine in the city but in regional areas with the 850 Next G band its hopeless!
Telstra user here, I was getting pretty poor performance from XXKK1, I was also getting lock up's where the reception would drop out when the phone slept. I also tried XWKK6 and wasn't having much more luck, but I switched to UGKL1 and not had any real issues since, I feel I get better reception now and less data flow issues.

Is the Verizon branded HTC 10 Unlocked?

I canceled my unlocked pre order that i was going to use on my AT&T account when they told me end of May early June before it ships. I was wondering is the Verizon branded one fully functional out the box for att like a lot of their other phones are? If so just gonna go in and buy one for 648
I don't think it is. The T-Mobile one probably is, though.

It indeed is unlocked. I have access to a cricket sim. I put the sim in, the phone informed me that it wasn't a verizon sim. I cleared the message, entered the cricket apn and indeed it worked. I am able to place phone calls and surf the web. Signal is HSPA, so maybe the radios are different???
