Recently got an AT&T Note 2 and just getting a bit confused with all my android devices.
Rom: Stock
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: I317UCAMH3
So how would I go about restocking it and then installing a new custom ROM like the ones on 4.3? Do I have to worry about locked bootloaders or something with the stock firmwares? Any special things I have to do when updating from 4.1 to 4.3 or so?
I am about to make the change from 4.1.2 to 4.4~ and i have the same question. Do i need to upgrade to stock 4.4 before i can flash 4.4? or since i already have recovery can i just wipe everything and flash the new rom?
The instructions are :
Wipe Caches + Data / Factory Reset
Install Rom
Install Gapps
Reboot
But i don't know if this works from a 4.1.2 rom.
Just wanna update that I was mistaken. I believe it is on Stock Rom and not Miui as previously mentioned, but my questions should still stand.
Been looking around more and everything is still fuzzy, but I assume I install ezKat 4.4.2 with
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8LnMaFLqug
or Stock 4.3?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
and then I can go with any other ROM from there that supports a 4.3 MJ4 bootloader. Can anyone confirm?
You do not need to update the device...
Simply root it using CF auto root...and flash the rom of your choice....
The update to official 4.3 will give you the semi-locked Knox bootloader...
And you don't want that...
Several users are running 4.4 KK on the original bootloader...
But if you want the 4.3 loader..."ONLY" use the leaked 4.3 bootloader from the development section...g

Not sure if this is the right place to post this as it is my first on this forum, I have Samsung galaxy s3 I747 d2att. Current rom...ROM][4.1.2][Sept 29] Hyperdrive RLS16...bootloader.... I747UCDLK3. Before I flash any of the 4.4.2 roms I need to know if I can restore to my current rom. I have read some threads that are adamant that once you flash to 4.4 you CANNOTgo back to a previous backup of 4.1.2...others are just as adamant that you CAN restore from a cwm or other backup if you desire to go back. I understand if you have a mjb bootloader, or have 4.3 ota update you are locked into android 4.3 or 4.4. I have neither of those. I use CWM mostly but also have & use TWRP, & have current backups of both, Can I flash a cw11 nightly rom, Quantum v3 rc4, or [ROM][4.4.2][Unofficial] Liquid Smooth v3.0 [12/14/13] [D2att] (which has no bootloader), or other 4.4.2 roms & still be able to restore from backup? I believe a lot of the comments about not being able to go back had to do with using the newest bootloader or the knox problem, but I am not sure what to think, & am trying to avoid flashing to 4.4.2 & having to stay there. Thanks

You can flash anything that has no bootloader attached to it. You can do 4.4.2 without updating the bootloader. My wife has gone from 4.1.2 Jedi ROM, to 4.4.2 Nightlies, and back to 4.3 Jedi ROM with no issues. She stayed on the 4.1.2 bootloader MF1 believe. My phone on the other hand did update to the 4.3 stock rom and bootloader (MK5). Even after this update I was still able to go to CM11, as Cyanogenmod does not contain a bootloader that will conflict. Afterwards you can even come back down to other ROMS as long as any of these roms do not contain bootloaders in them. Post # 3 may be able to help[ you with a few of your questions as to what you can and can not flash. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558311. Don't worry there is always a way back from 4.4.2.

Thanks for the quick response & the link. I have been searching & agonizing over this for 3-4 days. This is just the answer I needed!
I got an i747m for my brother. It was running stock 4.1.2 which I downgraded to 4.1.1, unlocked using the free menu method, and upgraded to a rooted stock 4.1.2.
Is it possible to load TWRP via odin and flash 4.3 or 4.4 ROMs (stock of CM-based) without flashing to stock 4.3 first? If I do flash a custom CM-based 4.3 or 4.4, will this upgrade the phone's bootloader to 4.3 as well?
I'm asking because I want to avoid tripping the knox counter on the phone as it is brand new.
I apologize if these sound like newbie questions. I did a search and could not find an answer.
Thanks for your time.
Hi all i need some quick clarification,
1) I am full aware that if you purchased a Note 3 on 4.3 and you updated to stock via either OTA, Kies or Odin the bootloader is upgraded and you cannot downgrade to 4.3 stock.
2) So my question is if you are stock 4.4 and install root, install custom recovery, Can you still downgrade to a 4.3 rom via custom recovery? or will it not allow me to downgrade at all?
3) Finally You can't downgrade to a 4.3 bootloader correct?
1) correct
2) 4.3 kernels do not boot with the 4.4 bootloader, so no
3) correct

If u have the w8 Canadian variant u can downgrade your bootloader.

is 4.4.2 that bad for the n900t?
it seems people are trying to avoid upgrading the bootloader. and are trying to downgrade if already on kitkat. whats wrong with the kitkat bootloader?
Hey guys. This may have been asked already but i am coming from verizons gs4. and over there you can oly get custom recovery if youre on mdk bootloader.
I just bought this phone for my brother and it came with 4.12 (MG2)
I see everywhere that people were able to get 4.3. i tried updating through phone and through kies and says its up to date. so now my question i guess is what bootloader do i need to be on or what 4.x.x do i need to be on in order to root and get custom recovery to flash custom roms?
any help will be greatly appreciated.
I recommend not updating to stock 4.3 ROM as this will install Knox and you will have a non-downgradeable bootloader. You can use Odin to flash Philz Touch which is based on CWM. From there, you can flash custom ROMs.
Some ROMs require a 4.3 bootloader, but these would tend to be based on the stock Samsung ROM. I am running the latest Validus 4.4.2 on a stock Bell 4.1.2 bootloader without a problem.

Oh ok. Well I just succesfully rotted and installed latest touch cwm.
so if I stay on 4.1.2 I can basically flash any kitkat roms? Because I dont want to install a tw rom.
So another question what are some good 4.4 kk roms? As in stable for daily use that I could flash

Most kitkat ROMs will work with a 4.1.2 bootloader based on my experience.
I like the Ground Zero ROMs and use them on the s3, Moto Atrix HD, and Nexus 4.

Hello guys,
i'm selling my note 7105 cause i bought OPPO find 7..
here i've a 4.4.2 slimkat rom and i'd like to give it to a friend but with stock rom ( he doesn't play with roms..)
now.. i've read here and there and it's not possible to go back on 4.3 ? is there anyt STABLE (real stable ) custom rom then?
i've read that 4.4.2 official is going to be out soon so this might " save " me !
is there any way to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3?
is this Ditto DN3 v4 RC2 worth to try ?
should i install some earlier bootlader if i decide to get back on stock rom?
thanks for all info
What bootloader do you have? If you went from 4.1.2 to slimkat then you should be able to flash any stock rom. The problem is going back to 4.1.2 with the 4.3 bootloader. If you install dn3 you will either have to flash stock 4.3 first or use agni/devil kernel to get wifi.

lol.. don't laugh...
i thought that being on 4.4.2 implies i've that bootloader
i tried to find the version on recovery and system info but,...??
where can i find the info abou tmy booloader? i know it sounds noob ... have patience
thanks
Something like this should tell you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.info
AFAIK you can't flash bootloader through recovery so if you were on 4.1.2 when you flashed slimkat you will still be on that bootloader. You should be able to flash any stock through odin if you are on 4.1.2 but if you were on
4.3 you might not be able to flash 4.1.2. If you do flash 4.3 with odin you will get knox

i installed that app and at OPERATING SYSTEM info i get:
OS NAME Kit Kat
Os Version 4.4.2
Boot Loader Version N7105XXDMC3
.... ???
I'm pretty sure dmc3 is 4.1.2 so you should be able to flash anything. I'd flash the stock 4.1.2 for your country with odin run triangle away then unroot and everything will be stock
