I'm sorry to say that, but you're still in the wrong place, you need to go there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-zl/help
Anyways, did you flash the correct kernel? Or did you just try to flash a recovery?

St.Jimmy,
I am a first time member, joined only yesterday (that is after my tail caught fire!); sorry to be still in the wrong place. Could moderators please relocate my post to the right location? Thanks a million to this wonderful site.
Thanks for the reply. I think installing CWR required flashing a "boot.img" file. The device gave up its ghost after flashing the boot.img file. As of now, there seems to be a slight improvement -- there is a red LED indicator that has come on when put to charging; it is faint, but it is there alright! Any chances of resurrection or is my phone really gone to its Heavenly Kingdomo?
I suggest u first charge it for 1-2 hours and then try using flashtool

Kedar,
Thanks. I have charged my phone overnight (10 hours). Still LED glows red. For a while I could connect in flashboot mode (LED=blue). Any help?

I can now sometimes connect in flashboot mode; flashtool initially recognizes the phone but when I try to flash a stock ROM, asks the phone to be connected (as if it has not already recognized the phone)! HELP PLEASE!!

might have a solution for the recovery if the fastboot is working
download minimal adb and fast boot from here
place boot.img in minimal adb and fast boot folder after installation
Put your phone in fastboot( hold power up key and plug usb)
open minimal adb and fast boot application
it will open a cmd window
type fastboot flash boot boot.img
after that type fastboot reboot
your phone will restart now
PS: your phone is refusing to boot because the recovery is corrupted
What if you fastboot a custom kernel with inbuilt recovery and then flash a Rom with the recovery?
Since you have fastboot working

You may try the method by @androidtweaker mentioned above as it is similar

First, what exactly did you flash to your phone and where did you get it from?

Androidtweaker1: Thanks. Cannot connect in fastboot mode. The blue LED comes on but the device is not recognized (adb drviers etc. no problem, all correctly installed, all set).
kedar: cannot connect in the fastboot mode. See reply to Androidtweaker1 above. Thanks
kingvortex: Thanks. I was trying to follow the following tutorial:
After downloading Z_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-4.3-101_v12.zip, place it in external SD Card of your smartphone
Now extract Z_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_FW-4.3-101_v12.zip on your PC’s desktop and copy boot.img
Paste this file inside the folder where you have installed Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Now turn off your smartphones completely
Plug in mobile’s USB in cable in PC port only
Hold Volume up button and plug in USB cable in mobile’s port
LED will turn blue (If it does not remain blue for long, then read Optional part in bootloader unlocking method explained above
Once you are successfully in fastboot mode, then you can continue
Now type Fastboot flash boot boot.img and press Enter
It will flash boot.img file on your device
Now unplug the device and boot it up
As soon as you see purple colored LED, start pressing volume up and down buttons repeatedly, until you are in CWM mode
In CWM Mode, select “Install Zip”
Now select the storage you have put that zip file in and just confirm its installation
There are two ways to navigate in this CWM recovery
You can navigate with volume buttons and make a selection with power button
Another way of navigating is by swiping your finger on empty area in recovery
Swipe up to move up, swipe down tp move down, swipe right to make a selection and swipe left to go back
After installation is complete, go back to main menu and reboot your smartphone
Congrats! You have successfully installed CWM custom recovery on your smartphones

Q: is working the minimal adb if in the settings was not checked the debug mode?
In my case I can go in fastboot mode each time but not help.
When I try to go in flash mode, there is strange because the flashtool say it it connected in flash mode , even the PCC say this, but the LED it's not green, is off, first is try to go green after get red and after off, but the software say is in flash mode.
I can try to flash any ftf, it's working without erors but my phone it's still dead after restart, even SONY logo is not appear, just vibrate once.
Other strange think, each time when I made a new flahing, there is a status message of device, it say that the version of ftf is 230 even if last time I was tring to flash 101 for ex and was finished without errors. Always show the same ftf version like nothing is changing inside. The only thing can change is the BL, lock or unlock and I can see this in the status device, this is made in fastboot mode and there I have the blue LED.
Can anybody give me some ideeas to fix this?
have the log of flahtool attached.
Thanks.

Hey, have you already solved your problem? I had the same as you and I could fix it, I will try to submit a post here explaining the steps I followed
I solved but in other way. I bought another Zl with the battery dead and I replaced the motherboard. I have it now working from gew months without any problems. The old motherboard is still broken.

if u have working recovery then use this:

I think thats the point: how to get the recovery menu working??
I've got installed quick reboot as well as xperia reboot but none of them is working.
I tried yesterday at home via fastboot tool with the commands mentioned in the root for all arc's thread and the relevant files to get into the recovery mode, but no chance.
It seems that i've to try the files mentioned in the other thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14903452&postcount=169 by binary this afternoon at home. basically at my corporate laptop its not allowed to install uncertified drivers.

you need to unlock the bootloader before you can use recovery via your pc. see how to:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087
This will install the necessary drivers also, that will allow you to use fastboot, you will need to install unsigned drivers. Download the img from your link. Then you can reboot into fastboot via holding the required button or using doom's app, make sure you have the usb lead in. Then with the img in same folder issue the command fastboot boot recoveryARC.img via command prompt window. Both links explain it.
my bootloader is unlocked, otherwise it would not be possible to write it at least onto the phone.
I allready did everything at home where I'm possible to install uncertified drivers.
I already flashed via fastboot the updrade to 2.3.3 as well as yesterday the rooted 2.3.3
Also tried doom's app, nothing changes.
just for confirmation here are the steps i did on the arc since the beginning:
Unlock bootloader, beginning of May (since when it's available)
rooted 2.3.2
upgraded to 2.3.3 via fastboot (root lost)
now the steps from yesterday:
Phone off
CMD: fastboot boot recovery.img
connected phone with USB cable and pressed menu button
Blue led on
at the CMD window recovery.img was shown as transfered to device
Arc was rebooting, but not into the recovery mode.
basically i'll try today with a different recovery img maybe thats the reason.

I explain again!
MY RECOVERY IMAGE (your link above post #169) is a recovery boot only, NOT FLASH! just fastboot boot.
The FreeXperia kernel incl. recovery is only for flashing, NOT BOOT!
So you have 2 easy options, but i provided the boot only version to help stock users to have a recovery!
Not other recovery image that MY POSTED can be used to fastboot boot into recovery.
Regards
So, finally i got it working:
In my case its only possible to get into the recovery mode via following setup:
Connect arc with fastboot mode (unlocked bootloader necessary).
recovery.img from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14903452&postcount=169
then
cmd: fastboot boot recoveryARC.img
then i get into the
thats it.
The app from doom is not working in my case. tried it now twice (once USB cable connected, once not), not working in any case.
If you get the first sony ericsson screen it was not working. it needs a while on a black screen (longer than waiting normally for sony ericsson) but then you're directly in.
Exactly the reason my lg is with me for the last days, just flash roms with 'rom manager' and playing with it and test things... Arc is to complicated for me to get this to work...
sent from arc or optimus 2x
It's not like someone has step-by-step instructions in, say, a guide...
I know, like I said, very complicated, especially when you only have an imac as computer at home and your laptop is broken:-D, so not able to open .exe files at the moment....
for lg I only needed to root and install "ROM manager", even people like me can use that. Plenty of roms and there you go.
For now I themed with uot kitchen, but this is the first time in two days I picked up my arc again just because the lg with custom rom is lightning, blazing fast and smooth...

That wasn't really aimed at you so much as the OP, though I guess it applies to you too

Hi everyone.....
after trying to install CM7.2 using this Guide by ridder215215 I ran into a weird problem.
*I was running R800a 2.3.4 rooted and with an unlcoked bootloader.
after I flashed the Kernel and rebooted the phone (step #6,7) the phone just died after the reboot.
I couldn't get it into Clockwordmode what ever I do I only get a vibration and the screen turns on with a black background.
after a miracle I got my phone into recovery mode and flashed the R800a firmware using flashtool. then I tried to install CM7.2 again.
the same problem occurred.... but now, I can't even get the phone into recovery mod to flash a stock rom!!!
HELP!!!!!
how can I force a recovery mode???
if anyone can propose an idea on how to install CM7.2, I would really appreciate it!
Right, using flash tool, select the stock ftf you want to return to (2.3.4 by the look of it) and set it off preparing the file for flashing. When it prompts you, with the phone turned off, hold the back button and connect your USB. That should put you back to stock firmware.
Now for CM7:
With the CM7 zip on your computer, extract the "boot.img" file located within and drop it int your fastboot folder within your Android SDK folder (usually platform-tools folder within the SDK folder). Make sure not to unzip the file. If you're using WinRAR, just double click the file and drag the boot file onto your desktop then move it from there to your fastboot folder.
Move the CM7 zip (now minus the boot.img) onto your SD Card. Also download the Google Apps (Gapps) zip to your SD
Turn your phone off. In your folder with the boot.img hold shift and right click, open command window here.
Hold the search button on your phone and connect it to your PC. type the following: fastboot flash boot boot.img
After thats done type fastboot boot boot.img and you should hear the USB disconnected sound. Your phone will then reboot. Keep spamming the Volume Down and Back button (some kernels use either one so spamming both always works) and you should get into CWM.
From there, Factoryreset/data wipe...Wipe cache...Advanced, Wipe dalvik cache.
With those wiped, you can flash the ROM with CWM.
You want to "choose zip from sd" and select the CM7 zip file. Wait for it to do its stuff then using the same method, flash the gapps.zip package.
Reboot (first one takes a while) and enjoy

can anyone tell me a way of putting my phone into recovery(flash) mode???
it's just not working!
get your phone into flash recovery doing this:
Remove battery, connect usb cable, hold the back button and insert battery, your phone should start in flash recovery, flash a stock ftf
when thats done, youll have to root your phone(you can do it via flashtool) then install
busybox through flashtool then install this cwm : http://www.mediafire.com/?u26cuggxd2x54vb
inside the archive theres several files run the one that says cwm1
then when the sony logo appears check the led on your play as soon as it turns blue, tap the volume - button on a rampage, it will get you inside clockworkmod recovery.
i find it easier to flash the boot image through flashtool might want to give it a shot. hope i helped.

Hello Everyone,
i wanted to flash a newer CM Rom (12.1). But since WiFi didn't work i wanted to go back. Now it seems i "overflashed" my phone... Long story short, the following is what i can do atm:
-get into Fastboot mode
-get into Flash mode
What i tried:
Using flashtool and flashing different ftf's to no success. Flashtool aborts the flash process at this line: x10flash.java:770 error (beforehand it says "parsing boot delivery" followed by "ending flash session")
Using fastboot to get into a recovery. Fastboot either gives "command not allowed" or "too many links"
At one point i was able to boot into a recovery, but that stopped working as well now.
I've never experienced a brick that crazy. Besides entering the two modes, i can do exactly nothing with it.
I have somewhat experience with flashing (owned a galaxy s3 before, flashed many times) and have flashed to the z1c many times.
No backup ofc, doh. But it doesn't matter since i backuped all my personal stuff anyway.
My question: is there any way i could do a FULL clean installation? Stock ROM or whatever. Just so i can get into a recovery at least again!
Edit/ the phone shows up under devices in fastboot "CB5A1YERET". Flashtool on the other hand says, "unknown" if i look at the debug log.
Edit2/ I don't even get to see the Sony logo. So it seems, the phone is stuck somewhere in the beginning of the boot up. When i plug it into the pc, the plug/unplug usb sound comes every 1-2 minutes.

Hi,
following commands:
fastboot boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -w
fastboot shows me the commandlist
fastboot devices shows the phone, see my first post.
Edit/ Somehow i was able to boot a boot.img (i believe its the boot.img from the last known cm version i flashed), but the phone got stuck at the Sony logo. Now its not working again.
I still have the TA backup, but how the hell can i restore it? nearly every tool out there needs me to enable usb debugging and/or adb. which i can't, cause i'm not able to enter the phone in any way.
I fear, that i hard-bricked my phone to a point were it can not be repaired...

Emma registration did not work. Never received an email.
PC Companion can't get a connection to the phone, when i'm being prompted to plug it in.
It seems the phone is in flashmode all the time. Whenever i plug it into the pc, the led flashes red and then green for a short moment.
I can unplug it and get into fastboot mode (re-plugging and pressing Vol+). The led stays blue, till i try a fastboot command. Then it turns off, like it's trying to boot up.

No need to wait for registration for Emma. Look for info, (I can't remember exact), you just have to modify some file in the DL package. I'll see if I can find it. What happened originally, did it disconnect during flash or something?

Here - https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Andr...ony-Flash-tool-for-Xperia-devices/td-p/307318
I would start with ta update, ( http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...for-a-range-of-unlocked-xperia-devices-video/ ), and try to get recovery from there. Make sure to flash recovery after update - the ta update only enables recovery, but doesn't include it.

That command will only hotboot a kernel, the right one for it to stick is fastboot flash boot boot.img.
Using fastboot Flash a stock kernel with recovery>get into recovery>wipe data/factory reset>install any rom>your good to go
also the command to flash a boot.img is
HTML:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
All the best

Probably you soft bricked your phone. I got into a similar situation when I applied OTA after root. Dont worry, its very easy to recover your phone. It should be able to boot in Fasboot mode. If it does, follow follow this guide:
.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-unbrick-asus-zenfone-2-works-on-ota-fail-too-82039/ (Add www at the start)
Download the latest pre-rooted system .img from here:
mega.co.nz/#F!k4MHiAgL!dVuOKeH3eokcwPSNI79ffw
Download the stuff needed and then just follow the guide. Hopefully you recover your device. Best of luck!
EDIT: Forgot to add but did you install the adb drivers? Probably thats the reason Fastboot and adb dont detect it. Or did you go into the fastboot mode in the phone? If not, do that first. To do it, follow these steps:
1. Power your device down.
2. Press and hold the power and volume up button.
3. Release the power button when it vibrates.
4. Release the volume up button once the ASUS splashscreen appears.
5. Now the device should be in Fasboot mode.
6. Then connect your phone to your PC (dont forget to install the drivers!) using the USB Cable and go to the folder where the flashtools are.
7. Hold Shift and right click > then click open command window here
8. Type "fastboot devices". Enter the command two times. (Cause the first time it will start daemon or something like that)
If your device shows up, congrats! You are in fastboot mode and it is working.
now what do i do
i do not know what ferwere i am on and my recovery is broken how to i get it up and runing

Hey,
Could you please help me (or anyone for that matter).....I've soft bricked my phone and I'm a little weary about following any other steps incase I fully brick the phone.
I have a Zenfone 2 that was CN Z00A 2.20.40.63 , I tried to root because random chinese apps kept downloading on my phone and obv it soft bricked (kept looping at boot).....since then I have tried a lot of stuff without luck and my brain is fried from all the information.... I went to the recovery mode but ADP couldn't find my phone and then I loaded a recovery image on my SD calling it MOFD_SD.ZIP but that didn't work due to signature verification error. Now after reading what you wrote I can see that fastboot is recognizing my device....I would go through with the process but I'm afraid if I screw this one up it could be the end of fastboot working and therefore me being royally screwed.
Since my phone was naturally CN Z00A 2.20.40.63 I'm wondering if the pre-rooted images on the site you mentioned above will work? There is no download for CN Z00A 2.20.40.63 and I want to know whether it's safe to use CN Z00A 2.20.40.61 (or a WW image) or whether I have to try another option (if you have any suggestions).
If anyone could reply with help it would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm not sure if it'll work but check this out (Scroll down to No. 4 - Changing from CN to WW version):
forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596
I'm no expert, but to be honest the state your device is in, I don't see any other options. Because when my device (it had WW firmware) got soft-bricked, I followed the guide by androidsoul and it did recover my phone. Not sure about yours since its a CN one.
If you like living on the edge and are really desperate, go ahead try this out, if not, better wait for someone with more knowledge then me.
EDIT: I forgot but since ADB isn't working, you can't use this method. So the only option I see that you have is flashing a pre-rooted rom.
Hello everyone! Complete dumbass here!
I was following the guide to root my razer phone. I've had it for a couple months, and decided to root it. I followed the guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/razer-phone/how-to/twrp-magisk-fullproof-guide-razers-wifi-t3756137
After a couple bumps in the road, such as fastboot commands not working, not being recognized, etc. I finally was able to unlock bootloader and install twrp. But it was #9 that got me stuck again.
"9.) Once in recovery, go to the install button, and select Install Zip, and select Magisk-v16.0.zip."
In recovery, adb devices and fastboot devices yielded no devices attached. Doing a search, I came across another forum post where it states the sdcard is encrypted and can't be accessed in twrp, and the fix is to do something like "Wipe>Wipe Data> Type Yes" and that should factory set the card. I did this and rebooted the device. I waited for a half hour for the animated PixelFloatingInACircle logo to be done with it's floating in a circle, but ended up going to bed and letting it die. Woke up this morning, plugged it in, got the razer logo splash screen with the orange text telling me of my impending doom, then went back to the animation. I let my dog out and came back and it was still on. I unplugged it and am letting it die again to see if there's another solution.
I'm wondering if anyone else came across this issue, and if so, how did they fix it? Any help would be appreciated.
Use the factory images in the developer portal. You have to manually install the fastboot driver or you won't see the phone in fastboot devices. After that you can flash_all.bat.
PS: if you just want root you can use magisk installer to patch the boot image (from the factory images) and then flash the patched_image.img. That's it, now you have root via magisk

The problem is when I try to enter download/recovery mode after charging the battery a little, it doesn't go to that menu. Instead, it skips right to the particle logo, and that's where it hangs.
The only guide I saw was the one I listed. Is there a guide for this magisk installer?(Ya know, in case I figure the first problem out, so I might try my hand at potentially creating another)
i think there is a way to hard reboot the phone, so you can do that and then hold the vol- key to start in bootloader mode when it reboots.
gonna check the correct buttons.
Edit: the button combination is power+vol+ for about 10-15 seconds, and the phone will reboot. You have to connect the phone via usb cable (before rebooting) to the computer (the only thing i'm not sure is if you have to have the fastboot drivers in the pc installed previously or if you can do it after entering fastboot) and just after the screen goes black while hard rebooting you have to release all the buttons and then press and hold the vol- button. The combination of vol- and the usb cable on boot seems to trigger fastboot mode.
I think the guide is in the guides forum, but the way it worked for me was without twrp:
- install magisk manager from this link -> https://github.com/topjohnwu/MagiskManager/releases/download/v5.7.0/MagiskManager-v5.7.0.apk
- push your boot.img (the easiest way is getting it from the factory image corresponding to the firmware you are using) to the sdcard
- open magisk manager -> install -> patch image only -> boot.img
- this will generate a patched_boot.img in /sdcard/MagiskManager
- copy that file to your pc
- go to fastboot and flash that patched image: fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
- enjoy root, and you can use magisk hide for apps that don't like root
Regards

Tried this originally after I let it die the first time. It still boot to the animation logo.

Read the edit, I found that the trigger is having the usb cable connected to the pc. Try that, or you can also try to adb while the device is booting (particles logo). Sometimes adb is responsive even when booting. There you can try to adb reboot bootloader

Progress! Got it into download mode. I have the boot.img I got from razer, should I push that and see if it boots normally?

As you already wiped the data partition, you should use the flash_all script. But yes, you can try flashing each partition

I moved the flash_all script into the tools folder and after a little while, the phone booted up into setup! After a couple taps, I've realized the wifi isn't working, which I know is a known issue. I'm gonna let it sit for the night and finish it in the morning!
EDIT : Soooo, I know I said I was going to bed, but I decided to fix the wifi issue, which in turn, also rooted my phone. I've downloaded the root checker, and it confirms it! Thanks so much Waiflih! You rock!
Hi guys, it seems I'm having the same problem and basically after unlocking my bootloader and flashing twrp to both of my slots I'm stuck on "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" booting up infinitely.
The USB plug in and holding the volume - button doesn't bring up "download mode" and no matter what buttons I try and press on my phone my computer doesn't recognize ANYTHING connected to it anymore.
Bloodeagle, how did you manage to get "download mode" back onto your phone? it seems like mine refuses to do anything like download mode.

Have you tried holding few combinations of different butt9ns for a minute or two to see if that results in you getting in downl9ad mode?
