help with unlock and root...please.. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

hello i have a tmobile s3 shg-t99 4.1.2 baseband version t999uvdmd5 and would like to know best way to root and unlock it so i can use it with at&t..

You don't need to root it, but if you want to root it anyway I suggest flashing root66 firmware.. Unlock thread is in general, you will need to downgrade to 4.1.1 LJA firmware for it to work.. You can also just flash the LJA baseband in custom recovery and then continue with unlock procedure.. Up to you

??????

Rooting is no problem.. And yes you can flash the LJA firmware in that thread, or flash LJA modem with custom recovery

[Q] Is there a way to return to stock 4.3 OTA?

I need to give my AT&T S3 to my Mom. Is there a way I can have my phone return to stock condition (no root, stock recovery, data wiped) on the 4.3 OTA? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you are already on TW either 4.1.1 or 4.3 then just ODIN back the 4.3 update.

You can only Odin 4.3 on an I747M if you're on AT&T with an I747 there is no .tar.md5 yet thus no Odin and there is no flashing backwards. If you try to overwrite the bootloaders with an older version you get a hard brick. When you try to flash an older firmware let's say 4.0.1 for example it will contain bootloaders, a kernel, a rom and a modem and it will hard brick the phone.
The thread you linked is for a 4.3 leak and runs mj2 bootloaders which is older than his current version of MJB. Also the thread you linked doesn't have any odin flashable files in it. Those are .Zip files flashable through a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM.
This could have been really bad for someone if they even tried what you linked. Locally it takes 2-4 days and $50.00 to get a phone Jtag'ed.

[Q] Downgrading I317 4.1.2 to 4.1.1?

I'm using Note 2 with Rogers and I need to downgrade back to 4.1.1 due to unlocking issues.
Just wondering if there's no issue with downgrading using a method applicable for a AT&T Galaxy Note 2?
By the way I'm using CleanRom 4.8 at the moment. Do I need to do flash back to the original firmware before I do this?
Thanks in advance
Just find your first modem release that came with the phone. Which is the J2 modem...
Flash that thru recovery, unlock your device. They the hidden menu...
Then flash back the latest modem. Then your all done. Phone unlocked permanently...

Thanks for the reply.
I'm not so familiar with modem... Is it different from a firmware??
Where can I find it and how do I flash it?? Do you know any link that explains all this process?

If you are on 4.2.2 bootloader then yes, if on 4.3 bootloader then no, but you can try downgrading modems instead.. Also is the ROM you are on aosp/cm or tw based?

If you update to 4.3 by one of the following methods you're out of luck:
-OTA update
-Kies update
-Odin flash the full 4.3 firmware.
Like mentioned above, if you only flashed a 4.3 ROM but keep your MDL(4.2.2) bootloader you can go back.
Faaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkk i did Odin flash the full 4.3 Damnit stupid Samsung why the hell would they block downgrading? Okay so if i did try to Odin flash the older firmware what would happen? I doubt it'll hard brick my phone right i could prob try it if it doesn't work then I'll just Odin flash 4.3

I will be waiting for your help, thanks
I know that you are very busy, but can anyone help me with this, please?
Is my question in wrong place?
Do you have access to custom recovery. If so flash a custom 4.3 rom. Ill recommend the s.w.a.r.m rom
If not ill google how to downgrade to 4.1.2 or google how to get rid of knox
If you want to stay stock flash Mr Robinsons rom, it is stock, rooted and Knox-free.

My phone is stock rooted but not on Mr Robinson's. Performance wise it should be same or better than stock ROM since it's the stock ROM.

Are you saying the MrRobinson's ROM isn't rooted ? Did you try the version 2 he posted ? I know that the first one had some issues.
If you are on 4.1.2 and only use PC odin for flashing then you can flash this stock rooted, knox-free ROM I uploaded here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2636552
This ROM will not update your bootloader and you can switch back to 4.1.2 using PC odin.

You do not understand me, right now it has 4.3 stock Rom with Knox, and I did root with chainfire auto-root, but does not work!
It do not has any root access, is impossible flash custom recovery.
Can I unroot, and install via Odin stock firmware 4.1.2, it has any issue?
I appreciated your help.
No problem,
You can install Mr Robinsons root 66 rom, make sure you download the v2 version and you will be all set.

But, Can I flash anhoter Rom?
If I downgrade via Odin, with stock firmware, android 4.1.2. Can I?
Because I would like to flash some cm Rom.
Your phone is already on 4.3 bootloader and there is no way to downgrade that.
But you can still flash any 4.1.2 ROM'S as long as you do not flash the bootloader. Almost all custom ROM's come without bootloader so you should be able to flash them via CWM,TWRP or mobile din.

[Q] downgrade from 4.3uvuenc2 to 4.3uvuemjc can brick my t999?

Hi guys
I have my t999 running the last ota 4.3 (uvuenc2) and want to install this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501303 who require to run 4.3 uvuemjc modem.
As far as i know downgrading from 4.3 can brick the phone, but if Im downgrading from 4.3 to this previous version of 4.3 I have the same risk of bricking the device?
I already rooted my t999, install custom recovery and disable knox, but when installed uvuemjc modem the phone lost the network signal, so went back to previous modem and dont try to go further until got more info.
Downgrading with custom ROMs won't brick you.. You also don't need to downgrade the modem, leave the modem alone and just flash the ROM
