I'd like to make a custom ROM based on the latest Sony FTF from here.
Can anyone link me a tutorial on this? I googled and searched XDA but I'm kinda afraid I'd mess it up coz none of them pertain to the current Xperia devices. I just want to start small: removing all the sony bloatware/apps (except the camera app) and packaging it to a zip file for flashing.
Thank you XDA community.

My Dad recently bought this device.
Why still no good custom rom for this phone?
Anything problem with root or bootloader or recovery?
Or
Still no developer to build it?
Look at the dev section, the smart guys are working on it but it don't seems to be an easy nut to crack...

They are trying to Port the CM/MIUI Rom.
I really appreciate that.
What about Custom ROM?
CyanogenMod and MIUI ROMs are custom ROMs.
If you're asking for additional custom ROMs, AFAIK no one has yet done so.
I'm asking about Custom Rom which is made out of Official Rom(Arc Rom).
Because unwanted Application removed,app2sd etc....
So root your dad's device and remove the junk
I think noone released such a ROM because we all want to keep the ability to do updates through OTA.

I'm using recently bought un-rooted Galaxy Gio (S5660XXKQ5) with stock 2.3.4 ROM. The reception has been pretty bad right from the start and few days ago I read that the reason for that might be the modem of my current stock ROM.
The question is - can I just flash new modem via Odin without rooting the phone and installing custom ROM? Is there a collection of S5660 modems somewhere?
HI !!!
Hi!
same new member here...
this analogy maybe ll help you...
which one do you think is greater, the brand new car that hasn't been modified or the modified car that its components, including engine, brake, and body has been modified into the best one???...
when you play NFS or GT sure you ll upgrade your car components, right?
same like the custom rom compared to the stock...
even the stock has a lot of problems..
here mine when i bought, i got nothing special with my gio with 2.2.1 stock FW
even the galaxy mini is better comparing to gio with the stock in GPS test
so u better root you phone, without being care about the MOdulator-DEModulator stuff and going to new custom rom
there are a lot of Best rom in the Android Development forum like the one created by phiexz, search yourself
to have custom rom sure you have to root your device, and don't think it's complicated that you should get other's help
u can do yourself
1.)search the root tutorial based on your current rom (when i first root my phone i used superoneclick, but if it's kinda complicated, seach another way)
2.)then install Clockworkmod Recovery, download in the market or else by the name ROM Manager (or the customized CWM)
3.)download the rom (complete components, if existed)
4.)flash the rom by rebooting into recovery... (don't care about rooting again, u ll find most of the rom will be automatically rooted with new CWM, and a2sd enabler)
5.)short tutorial above depends on the rom you ll be flashed
i'm a bit being advisor, hope u dont mind...
I know all the advantages of having a custom ROM but this time I'm really interested in replacing my modem to get better reception. Could it be done?
Have been searching for it from many days but am unable to find it!
What I need is going back to Stock ROM from CyanogenMod.
I don't have an arc. It is for my friend. Actually he asked me to root his mobile. But I installed CM in it because I liked CM in my 'Samsung Galaxy ACE'. He accepts that CM is fast but he is asking me to install stock firmware in it. He is saying that he is missing some features like timescape.
Switching ROMS in ARC (even in my ACE) is very simple. But I would like to know how to install Stock ROM over Custom ROMs in ARC. Can I simply use flashtool for it? Or will I end up bricking the mobile?
If at all if I end up bricking his mobile then he may ask my 'Sony Xperia S' that I ordered just few days ago!!! (LOL!)
Damn! Things were very simple in Samsung Phones! But in sony, understanding the terms itself is taking a hell lot of time for me!
Wrong section..should be in Q&A...
You need to download flashtool and flash a generic firmware. JUST SEARCH! THIS QUESTIONS BEEN ASKED A MILLION TIMES BEFORE so you could easily have found the answer before starting this new thread.

ICS and GB roms have different kernels so before you try to use install the rom from CWM make sure you have installed the correct kernel. I'm not too sure what options are available anymore for locked bootloaders because most roms now incorporate tweaks that aren't supported by them. I would just take a look around the dev section for ROM, if they don't specify they need a unlocked bootloader then drop the dev a mail asking.
Thank you
It honestly looks like every single rom I have come across requires unlocked boot loader. That why I thought I would if some one has seen something specific
Basically I want a leaner and smoother rom then the current Sony one

Best one I found was the t.e.a.m stock from for 2011 xperia devices. Also installed the xperia big pack theme from the theme section. Looks and performs great man. I am also on a locked boot loader for now but am very happy with the look and feel of this

Hello All!
I just want to clear some of my basic doubts before I flash ROMs in my GN2. So, here goes:
Is it right that custom ROMs donot have some of the Samsung proprietary features such as Air View, Smart Rotation, Smart Stay, etc.? and
Are kernels also flashed in the same way as the ROMs are i.e., .zip flash via Recovery?
Thanks!

Hi,
1.) It is possible.
2.) Yes
1) yes, cyanogenmod rom paranoid rom will Disable Samsung applications, but there are still so many roms, like Android revolution HD, Crash rom ( I'm currently using now) , just google " the best custom rom for galaxy note 2" , those roms keep all of Samsung features + many system tweaks. Just try them.
2) exactly yes
Here, I'd like to advice to back your stock rom before flashing a custom rom. This is very important to recover your phone in case something went wrong

ALL TW ROMS have these options s whereas Aosp don't
Yes the same way to flash the kernel

Your question has been answered already but I would like to explain a bit more for others who can be confused with all this.
There are 4 kinds of custom ROM available.
TW (stock Samsung)
AOSP( Pure Google Android) Won't have any of the Samsung features
AOKP( Based on AOSP but with some more features) Won't have any of the Samsung features but they got the S-pen working.
MIUI (Chinese version of Android with very different style than others) ?????? not sure
ROMs and Kernels comes in 2 formats. ZIP and TAR.
If it's a ZIP file, you flash it in recovery using CWM, TWRP or PHIL.
If it's a TAR file, you need to put your phone in Download Mode and flash it with ODIN.
Custom ROM' almost always come in ZIP(never seen one using TAR but it's not impossible)
Official Samsung ROM almost always come in TAR files
Hope it helps.
