I followed all of the instructions on the above link and after using odin my phone won't boot in clock work mod recovery. it only boots in the android system recovery and I didn't realize it at first and ended up clicking apply update from external storage and then chose the "CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip and when my phone rebooted it was wiped.
Odin passes so why is clock work mod recovery not working? please help
I also followed these instructions:

I followed them to the letter and was rooted in 1 minute.
See if there is something you are skipping, make sure you have the latest PC drivers
Your not rooted. Reroot using odin 3.0.9 you might need to reinstall stock rom. If you read skynote thread your answer is there as well as download links... your welcome

I re-ran odin and I am now rooted, my phone wasn't in debug mode... and the instructions didn't say that but I tried it and it worked.
Now my problem is when I try to start my phone in recovery mode the galaxy note logo flickers up and down the screen and the phone completely goes dead and i have to take out the battery to get it to start again. I have followed both sets of instructions to a T for clock work mod recovery and it hasn't worked.
And on the clock work mod recovery instructions, now when I click to download it it says failed download error...

I re-installed clock work mod recov 4 times and still when I try to start in recovery mode the screen flickers n theres lines across the screen n then the phone goes dead and I have to pull the battery to restart.

Try it with TWRP
http://tinyw.in/16LP
I installed that but it is an image file and odin will not open an image file?
Is it the same instructions to run this as it is to run cwm?
It says it needs to converted to a .tar file. How do I do that?

The link I provided is for the tar file. If you downloaded it do not extract it.
Look here, end of the page

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, or maybe it's too late, but some flavors of Samsung Android 4.x have a file to restore stock recovery at boot.
With the phone rooted and a root capable file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer look in the /etc directory. If there is a file in there called install-recovery.sh rename it and then try re installing cwm or twrp.

I clicked on the link and then went to end of the page to download for Odin, but when you click on that link there are a million different files, I just want to make sure I am clicking on the right one. Dont want to brick my phone. Is there a difference between all of the different files?
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar.EjYLF6
is that the correct file?
Ok so I got TWRP installed.
Next question, I have been out of the loop for a few years so how do I get the latest firmware? Right now I have Android Version 4.1.2 and baseband version I317UCAMH3.
Is that the latest for the galaxy note 2? I have att and its the SGH I317
I didnt even plan to f with my phone but the other day my phone glitched and erased 300 pictures and videos from my newborn daughter that I just had and I was so upset and trying to find a way to recover them, someone told me to root my phone and try disk digger... so far I have had no luck at all with recovering anything... totally sucks and I am soooo upset!

4.1.2 is the latest OFFICIAL AT&T build. There is an unofficial leak in the Android Development section, but I honestly don't know how it performs as I only run AOSP roms.
thanks
To start I bought this phone from a friend was working fine. It seemed to be rooted after going to recovery mode and realizing it was a custom recovery that I got into. I've had plenty on iPhones and androids , so far this is the first time after hours of research and trying everything that I've had to make a post asking for help. I have a sgh-i747 pebble blue ATT phone. It had 4.3 OS on it and was rooted before I acidentally wiped the OS off of it. I've tried the past few days to use Odin to get the stock firmware back on, I've tried 4.0.1 - 4.3 , no luck. Odin recognizes phone after I click start after choosing the md5 tar file it either says fail or stays at setupconnection. I've tried many times over and over unistalling and re installing drivers , kies, and downloading different firmware and every version of Odin. I need help guys please , thanks alot

Since your phone was on 4.3, the only thing you can do now would be a stock restore to 4.3. Please see the thread below for the stock restore zip as well as instructions. You may use another device to copy the stock restore zip to an external SD card and then place this card in your phone, then flash from (custom) recovery. Odin cant help you now except to flash custom recovery if you need to redo this.

Good you have TWRP already. You can try to see if you can save the zip to your phone's internal memory as the PC may be able to recognize it in download or recovery mode. Otherwise, you may try using any other device at all that accepts (micro) SDHC card e.g. camera, card adapter etc. You may also be able to flash the zip directly from your PC using the desktop flasher. See thread with instructions below ...

Glad to know your phone is now working fine. To root or not is a choice you'll have to make depending on how much control you want over your phone. The pros are that you literally have control over your phone in terms of installing apps or making modifications to the operating system. You can install custom ROMs and/or apps that you would otherwise not be able to install. The con, of course, is security and integrity of your phone. There is always a risk that you may end up bricking your phone or creating access for malware. Rooting should, therefore, be something you do only if you have need for it.
... Just Odin stock ROM and work from there or if twrp isn't latest... Odin latest recovery and then USB files into phone using recovery and then flash... Or again just use odin to flash and then do whatever you want afterward

Hi guys, much thanks for your help.
I had the unofficial CM11 nightly installed on my GTab 3 8.0 but it got corrupted. I used PhilZ Touch to wipe the storage but I can't find a guide to help me re-install CM on this device.
I tried to use Odin to install CM11, but it won't take .zip files. I converted the file to .tar so I could try and flash it, but Odin immediately crashed.
Please help me fix this device.
To add - There is no ROM installed on this device. It has only the philz touch recovery installed.
I can't turn the tablet off - The device just constantly displays the battery icon. When I try to turn it on, it boots and endlessly displays the galaxy tab 3 boot splash screen.

Yes lloydsw, PhilZ is ClockWorkMod based. PhilZ has similar functionality to TWRP.
My problem is that I don't know how to get the ROM zip file onto the tablet. If I can get it on the tablet, I'll have no trouble installing with PhilZ.
I tried to adb a little bit, but I keep getting Access is denied errors. For some reason, I have been getting these errors recently whenever the Console is involved, even if I launch it with admin rights. I think Microsoft changed Console functionality with a recent update. So, I didn't try too hard.
So, how do I get this rom file into the tablet?

Hi gr8nole,
I don't think I have an microSD. I have an old SD card but I don't think the Tab 3 will take that.
Is there some kind of GUI tool, like the nexus root toolkit that let me flash .zip files on this thing? I don't why odin doesn't take the most common kind of compressed file. I'm kind of stuck here.

You have a couple options.
Download the full firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with odin. Then re-flash custom recovery.
Or, continue trying to get the rom zip onto your device. Either get a micro sdcard or get adb to work.
If you get adb working, remember you have to mount the data partition before you can send anything to the internal sdcard (internal sdcard is simply a link to /data/media).

Hey everybody.
I searched my house for microSD cards, and I found one in an old dumb phone. And I recovered some pictures and info that I thought was lost. I found sd card adapters in another box. I put them together and installed the rom easily.
My tablet is working fine, thanks to everyone. Not only is my device working again, I found my lost data. yes!
gr8nole, special thanks to you. Have a great day!
i flashed new firmware to my htc one m8
I got into recovery and changed the name firmware file.
but now in the recovery it doesn't recognize my internal storage, kind of. it says 0 mb.
And when I try via adb to push a file to it it fails. (adb push filename.zip /sdcard/)
so it seems like i only have the external card now working.
what can I do?
I'm currently in the stage where i have the firmware file in the right name and it keeps asking me to update, if i remove the external card, i can get into recovery change the name, and then i see it won't read the internal storage like i wrote up here.
but after I change the name i can get into fastboot mode.
I currently have recovery mode - twrp 2.8.0.3
p.s I think my internal storage does work, cause i can go into recovery mode(twrp), my external_sd was formmated
before i used to update the firmware, so it has nothing except for that file
You're not flashing the firmware through recovery, are you?
No, i flashed, with the guide here, via an external card, changing the name of the firnware so the hboot would recognize it.. and update it

I have TWRP 2.8.0.6. You can download TWRP manager from Play Store, it has a list of TWRP versions you can install. The app installs them too. Everytime I used the app to install it, it says it failed but it actually works, just install, then say ok to the failed install pop up and reboot into recovery and it'll be there.
Edit: As soon as the firmware has flashed successfully, boot up and delete the firmware file off of your external SD card so it doesn't keep asking you to update.

I need to download it, and flash it via fastboot. I'm wondering if that's the problem that the internal storage is giving me these problems or it has nothing to do with it.
Does a different firmware require different twrp versions?

Not as far as I know. Your best bet man is probably to download an RUU and just flash that through fastboot or the external sd card method. Then after that, flash the TWRP then put a ROM zip on your phone and flash that way.

No, an RUU is a complete system install. Completely stock with the exception of some RUUs contain root. But it will wipe everything on your phone, all your personal data and what not.
Hi,
So this morning I decided to root my phone (BND-L21)
I did it! But I realise I couldn't use Snapchat since being rooted didn't allow me. After going through various methods, I gave up and was left with the only guaranteed method, which was to unroot my phone.
I got stuck in a bootloop after pressing the unroot button in SuperSU.
I can access TWRP mode, Recovery mode, and the Rescue mode or something.
The Recovery mode which used wifi to reset my phone by installing a fresh rom had failed..
The rescue mode i have no idea what to do with (neither do I have any idea about ADB to help me out here)
In TWRP mode, i wiped everything and formatted data, hoping something would happen because nothing else did.
Everything I tried to do, I would just end up back in the booting screen with "Your device is.....booting...."
On my PC, it recognises my honor 7x in RECOVERY if I type in adb devices.
I'm believe I'm almost at a critical stage of turning my phone into a brick.
I tried downloading stock rom and installing it from TWRP mode but it came up with "UPDATER PROCESS ENDED WITH ERROR: 9"
Please help. I can't afford another one, nor do I have a backup phone. It says I have no current ROM if I intend to reboot my phone.

formating in twrp was not a good idea. These huawei phones have "other" files that system needs stored on /data. The stock recovery skips these files when doing a reset, twrp does not.
you should probably flash fullOTA to get back to working stock now.
try to follow this guide.

Um, the situation changed quite drastically.
I can't access TWRP anymore and when I plugged my phone in to my computer it detects it as a disk drive...
Can I still flash stock rom using sd card or anything else?
(Also, i sent it to a repair shop today and they'll get back to me tomorrow.)
