Hello!
I was on a KitKat AOSP ROM. I then tried flashing A KK TW ROM. It booted, but I had no mobile signal, so I flashed back to a TouchWiz 4.3 ROM. Earlier today, I read about a workaround of the 4.4.2 TW ROM, where you flash an earlier version, and then dirty-flash the new versin. When I flashed the earlier version, it did not boot, but I was able to enter recovery, so I flashed the new version over that one. Stuck on ''Samsung'' logo. I try to pull the battery, and press the key combination. The only thing I'm greeted with is ''Downloading, do not turn off target'', or something like that. No recovery. I need to know how to get my recovery back.
Thanks!

You must flash stock ROM via Odin

That "downloading" message you are talking about is the DOWNLOAD mode that you have entered which is good news. You can flash recovery via pc odin after putting the phone into download mode ( volume down +home+ power button).Get the .tar file from here , open odin on pc uncheck auto reboot on the far left corner, select PDA/AP tab and choose the above recovery file that you downloaded, connect phone to pc and wait for ID COM to turn blue which means a secure connection has been established between odin and your phone, then hit start and let the recovery flash.Once it says pass on the top left corner remove the usb cable from the pc and pull the battery out of your phone so that it can be turned off wait for few mins put it back in and manually enter into recovery mode using volume up +home+power button your recovery should load withing 5-10 seconds after the samsung note 2 logo.

Hi guys,
Was trying to install a ROM last night in CWM Recovery, then I was having some difficulty, after each ROM swipe I was doing the Factory Wipe/Dalvik Cache Wipe/Cache Wipe.
Anyways, I ended up having to try and flash the pre-rooted Stock ROM, I used Odin 3.07 to flash it and in Odin it appeared to work fine, the phone was rebooting and Odin was in "Pass" mode, but the phone never gets beyond the Samsung boot screen.
I then tried to see if I could flash CWM Recovery in Odin and try and get into Recovery mode, it flashed fine in Odin and the device rebooted but still stuck in Samsung boot screen.... but I cannot get into Recovery mode manually, I even tried getting in via the Q3 Toolbox kit, and it says it cannot locate the device :/
So today, last desperate option, I tried flashing the un-rooted stock image for my carrier (Rogers), it seemed to work fine in Odin but it STILL just will not boot back up, still stuck in the Samsung boot screen.
Is this what a brick is? Beyond continually trying to re-flash the stock carrier MD5 via Odin, what can I do? Oddly enough the phone does recognize in the Q3 Toolbox for the Root options, just not for the Reboot into Recovery option. Is there something I can try in the Q3 Toolbox?
/Scared / really concerned
Please help, any help is appreciated.
Once again, I CANNOT get into CWM Recovery.

You're soft bricked, don't panic just yet. A hard brick is when the device is completely unresponsive. So far this sounds fixable.
To get into recovery, are you holding down the volume up + home key for long enough after the Samsung logo appears?
I'd try that again, but if not: Try to Odin CWM again but uncheck "Auto-Reboot" in Odin. After it's done flashing, pull the battery out, put it back in, and use the key combos to get into recovery. Hopefully you have a nandroid backup saved or another rom saved on your sd that you can restore at this point. (Please note that using this method may increase your flash counter, but that can easily be fixed with Triangle Away).
Hope this helps.
If its just hanging at the samsung logo..pull the battery, put it back in, boot into stock recovery ( vol up+home+power) wipe data/factory reset then reboot.
After that just download one f the one click rooted stock rogers roms. Odin it, Then use the S3 toolkit to flash a recovery only.
Should be goo to go from there
I am flashing the pre-rooted stock ROM's via Odin again, and then will try and flash CMW Recovery again but without the Auto-Reboot selected.
I was pretty certain I was holding the keys long enough previously to try and get back into Recovery but it never would actually go into CWM Recovery.
Will let you guys know how it goes, thanks for replying.

Just tried this.
Flashed the pre-rooted stock ROM, it went to Pass in in Odin, device never booted past the boot screen. Pulled out battery, re-inserted and then flashed CWM Recovery in Odin with Auto-Reboot turned off, that went fine to Pass, pulled battery and did the key combo to enter Recovery. I got the "Booting Recovery" in top left corner in blue for a second, held onto the key combo and nothing, just went back into the same Samsung boot screen and it's stuck there.

Hmmmm...one more thing to try. Re-download the stock firmware image in the unlikely event that you got a bad/corrupted download (also may want to try the version that doesn't have root injected). Then try again.
I'd say to try a different USB port on your pc, but since Odin is saying Pass that doesn't seem likely. Worth a shot though if the above fails (and also worth trying to Odin from a different computer).
Hang in there, you aren't hard-bricked yet! :fingers-crossed:
It has to rebuild cache everytime you flash, if you are clearing things correctly. This can take up to 10 minutes. Also, when the first samsung logo appears take finger off power button and hold the home and appropriate volume button.

The Q3 Toolbox kit saved me.
I couldn't flash into Recovery (not CWM Recovery, stock Recovery) no matter how long I held the key combo
But I eventually managed to get into Stock Recovery using the Q3 Toolbox.
Thanks for the advice people.
Holy shiiit that was nerve wracking for a while.
Hi everyone. Last night I went to install S3Rx 4.3 TW ROM,i went through the AROMA installer like I have in the past, at the end it went to reboot and got stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy s3" screen, I gave it 15 min's to load. When it didn't load, I rebooted into my recovery which is TWRP (not sure which version" the blue "TeamWin" screen came up and it rebooted, it did this every time I tried to boot into recovery. I then downloaded the newest and some older versions of TWRP to flash via Odin. They all showed that the install passed but the same thing happens every time I try to boot into recovery. Since I updated the bootloader to use the 4.3 TW ROM I can't flash a stock ROM and start over again correct? Any help would be appreciated, i'm at my wits end here and don't know what else to do. Thanks everyone.

All I could find were img files, will that still work?
Install the latest tar version from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att
Do not unzip the file. Just put it in PDA, disable auto reboot, install, disconnect USB cable from the computer when you see Reset in the status window, pull the battery, replace the battery, and boot into recovery.

You are most definitely the man! That worked and I got a ROM installed. I went 17 hours without a phone, I think that's the longest i've gone in a long time. Thanks for the fast response and fix!:good:
So today i was gonna try to install a custom rom, more specifically Cyanogenmod 10.2. for my Tmobile Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999). When i went to boot into recovery, i saw the screen that is displayed right before you enter recovery, but then after that it just stayed on a black screen. I took out the battery for a few seconds and powered on my phone. Then i tried entering recovery directly through ROM Manager. I got the same black screen, but now if i try to power on my phone without entering CWM, it automatically tries to go into CWM recovery regardless. . I tried a few battery pulls and nothing has worked yet. Luckily i am able to enter download mode so i can flash the stock rom via odin and then restore my backup from the SD card later. I just wanted to know if there is a simpler fix than this so i don't have to go through the trouble of flashing stock rom again. Btw i am still on the stock rom running android 4.3 jelly bean.
Try flashing custom recovery again and make sure it's the newest.

The problem was i couldn't boot up my phone in the first place because it would automatically go into recovery. I actually fixed it by going it to download mode and then pressing the down button which rebooted the phone properly. I used rom toolbox and now im just gonna stick with TWRP.

That's what I meant, you can flash recovery in download mode but as long as you got it working its all good. And yes I highly suggest using twrp over cwm
Thanks anyway man! TWR FTW!!
My phone wasn't recognizing my sim card after trying to update my CM11. I decided to install my stock rom and now when I boot my phone it is stuck on the Samsung logo. I've tried researching tons of forums and can't seem to find a solution. Also, when I try to enter recovery mode, it says recovery manual <3e> ?? Have I completely screwed my phone up?

What version of ROM were you on and what stock ROM are you trying to flash ?
Is download mode working ? Are you trying to flash it via ODIN ?
I was using cm-11-20150101-NIGHTLY-t0lte nightly and tried to update to CM12. That apparently messed my phone up to where I had to revert back to CM11. When doing this, my phone came on, booted up, and was useable, but wouldn't recognize my sim card. So I thought I would try and flash my stock rom and that apparently just bricked my phone altogether. I can access my download mode but my custom recovery is gone and when I do enter recovery mode it's the manual recovery with a <3e>??
If stock recovery is working then wipe data/factory reset and then flash stock ROM via ODIN.

What @ciphercodes meant to say was that, whiles stuck on the samsung logo, take out the battery, put back and long press home + power+ vol up buttons together to get into stock recovery and wipe/reset data...and reboot...thats all
My plan is to install CM11.
I have a GT-I8160 with JB stock installed.
I have just loaded on the GT-I8160-TWRP-Kernel.tar.md5 custom recovery via odin. Odin reported that it had worked ok.
I now cannot turn the phone on past the boot screen or get the recovery to load. I just get the white writing "Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 GU 1 8160" on the screen, the same if I take the battery out to reset it.
I can still get to the download ROM screen via volume down and power on.
How can I save my phone as it is junk at the moment! Can I put on the stock recovery, or another custom one? or can I flash the whole stock OS on somehow?
Its ok, I have downloaded the stock firmware from samsung http ://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I8160 and I flashed using Odin
The phone is now working again. I will try to use another recovery option next time as TWRP doesnt seem compatible!
