Hi!
Is there any way to replace the original sony launcher with a custom one? Personally i want to use Themer Beta. Anybody did this before? Is it even possible with Themer Beta? I'm on .757
The reason i want to do it is because after i unlock my lockscreen the original launchers background appears for a flash. I'ts pretty annoying. Beside that i think the original launcher is always in memory (i wonder if this is the case?) which is a waste in my opinion.
Thank you for your answers
I don't really know but I think it shouldn't be a problem. Why don't you try it? In case you don't have any launcher anymore, you can always push the original launcher back through adb or recovery.
You could try freezing the Sony launcher first instead of deleting it for good.

yea, try freezing it first using titanium backup then replace the launcher with themer beta using root explorer..
I'm curious to know how this goes, as I'm unwillingly to try this myself (my daily driver)
I use a different launcher... Just installed it and made it default... No issues found (for some things u need to be root)

I used Titanium Backup to backup the app, than uninstall it. After that i used the "convert to system app" function to move my launcher to /system. It is working fine.
Freeze the Xperia launcher with titanium backup or some other such app. Won't bother ya anymore.

I really like the new ICS Folders, but do tend to flash a lot. Any way to back them up so you don't have to re-create them every time you flash a new rom?
OR, does anyone know of a folder app that has a similar style to the ICS folders?
bump ... wanna know the same thing!

Nope, not that I'm aware of. You could use a third-party launcher like LauncherPro or ADW that has homescreen backups, but I'm not sure any of them have the same kind of folder capability.
I backed up mine using titanium backup pro and it restore back all my apps including my folders. I did had to setup all my widgets back though.

I didn't realize titanium would backup the ISC folders... I guess next time I load a rom, I will give that a try. Thanks

the folders should be tied to the launcher. so backup that up with titanium or similar app.

Get that, but how do you backup the stock launcher?
can this be done with the free version?

The Free version of TiBackup works just the same for backing up and restoring. But the paid version gets you batch 1-click restore, and several other advanced features.

When I was flashing new ROMs, titanium backup was not restoring my ICS folders. However, if you use the Nova Launcher, which is based on ICS and do a titanium backup of that launcher, when you restore, your folders come back.
It's the little things in life that make me happy !
Nova Launcher is really nice !
I backed up the stock ics launcher with titanium, and restored just the data..not the app. This worked fine to restore my folders, but I had to re-create a couple of shortcuts for apps that 'weren't installed' after flashing peter alfonso's 4.03 nightly. It seems to me that the launcher itself might change between 4.02/4.03, so I wanted to play it safe and keep just the data. To be honest...even keeping the data from 4.02 makes me nervous. I just don't know enough about it.
I wanna replace some of my stock apps into 3rd party ones, i know i can just install the 3rd party ones and thats it, but what if i wanna fully replace the app like some of the roms out there? Is it possible to do that? I dun feel like wanna flash another roms.
Well I set some other launchers into default launcher and uninstalled my stock launcher, am I doing that right?
the apps i wanna replace are contacts, sms and maybe dialer.
You'll have to root then use Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox to uninstall the system apps, making sure you have apps to replace them.
Also, back up everything in case you do something you shouldn't.

If you want to have 3rd party apps as stock then I think you have to put the apk in system/app.
There may be an option in one of the apps I mentioned to make user apps into system and vice versa.

My phone is rooted and using titanium backup, but do i just need to copy the apps to system/app only........i have no idea
Using Titanium backup, long-press on the user app then click "Convert to system app" (not sure if this is a paid function or not)
How do i remove the default launcher or whatever it is and use adw launcher
Just install adw from the market and enjoy after that I think uuu can delete the stock luncher with ie tytanium backup but I'm not 100% sure if you can delete it, don't remember anymore. Anyway I've got two launchers installed and it works

Hi,
I was wondering, is it possible to uninstall the Android stock keyboard on my cell (CM7) with "Root uninstaller"?
That's pretty large, 11MB, and I'm using SwiftKey... So that could be great.
Thanks!

If you want to replace ADW, yes its possible and basicly recommended since CM uses old build of ADW, even tough its made for system use. But yes its possible. And its recommended to do it the way I have done it.
1) get Titanium backup from market, free version will do just fine
2) get an app that can browse root and set permissions (Root browser free recommended)
3) get the launcher APK you want to replace ADW with, it can be old version, market will update it to the latest.
Once you have all these
1) Rename your desired launcher "Launcher.apk"
2) Copy it to system/app
3) Set its permissions to match this
Code:
Read Write Execute
Owner X X X
Group X
Others X
4) Reboot phone
5) after reboot press home and choose your desired launcher
6) delete ADWlauncher via Titanium backup (Also any other app can be removed using TB, default keyboard for example)
Hope you get your desired launcher
Replaced mine with MIUI ADW Launcher btw
I just installed Go Launcher, and removed ADW with root uninstaller.
Working great.

yes why not... but make sure to have nand baskup whenever you do anything like that...
it can be done with dialer, msg app, keyboard, stock browser, launcher or anything like that... just install new one, make it deafult, set it up, try it few days and see if it crashes or bugs, if not, just uninstall with root uninstaller what is no more needed
I've been running calk's ics ROMs and using apex launcher as a system app. Every update the system files are wiped, and his ROM doesn't include apex by default. I have tried restoring it and data thru ROM toolbox pro as well as manually dropping the apk in the system apps folder then going to apex settings and restoring data i backed up. To my dismay it has yet to work for me and I'm beginning to get tired of having to re-setup my homescreen every time i install a ROM update. Any suggestions? Am i doing something wrong? Any insights are appreciated.

I tested apex for awhile and its a nice launcher, but I had similar problems restoring my screens with it. I switched to Nova and the restore files are stored on the sd card. It restores perfectly every time for me. Another added bonus is you can save as many backup files as you want. Apex only saves one file and you overwrite it each time you backup. You can go to the folder and rename the backups so you know which file to restore. I'm sticking with nova.
FWIW, I was able to restore my settings for Apex via Titanium Backup. Hope it helps you, though it might be a hassle to install another app to restore yet another app... Good luck!

I myself have the same problem. It's a pain in the butt but I love Apex so much more than Nova. I just make sure and use TB or MyBackup Pro to backup the data.
I believe I saw something somewhere that said the developer was aware and working on it but I could be making that up...
I am also having this issue...sort of.
I get Apex to restore with the icons, etc.
But the one thing I cant get to work (and its a PITA to have to redo each time) is that when I setup direct dial shortcuts to contacts on my desktop.
The pictures of the contacts will reappear...but when I click it I get "the contact does not exist"
Ive tried to use titanium, to use apex's own backup and restore...somehow I can get this to work. Advice?
So it's rather amusing to use Apex launcher than Nova on backup/restore side. I've using Nova on stock ROM 4.1.1 for almost 1 year, but I felt my Galaxy Nexus's battery drained so fast. Right now I'm using CM 10 with Trebuchet launcher & I feel less on battery drain. I planning to move to Apex, but after I read this post, I think I need to think about it again.
