Hello. I recently acquired the i747. I used and toyed a lot with a i9300, but not anymore. So, while Im not totally new to the whole process I am new to this device and the options avaialable for flashing.
Im using C-Rom link and Im trying to find a kernel that allows me to modify the volume (I get really low call volume) and also that allows me to change the color calibration.
I have been searching but I cant seem to find that many options. In this forums i've found kernes that do one or the other but for jelly bean or for TW.
Can anyone lead me to a kernel that can do both?

Hey everyone,
I just tried both the stable cm10 and the new PA roms (didn't know my phone could work that fast!!!) and the only problem I have seen so far is with very dark pictures. It seems as if there is a mis-calibration with the screen but can't figure out how to change it. Changing brightness settings for the device doesn't do anything as it isn't an led error but more an interpretation error.
Has anyone else noticed this???
fyi I came from a cm9 rom but I can't remember which one...
Thanks
~~edited title to better reflect the issue. It affects the whole display (including home screen)
~~downloaded and tested Screen Adjuster and it works by upping the rgb values by about 20-30% however it causes tremendous slow down of the system. Still just wondering why such a difference in screen display between a cm9 build and both jelly bean builds that I tried.
Thought I would add a pic so you can see the difference. The displays used to show pretty much the exact same pic and now you can see how much darker the one on the phone is.
Thanks again for any help, always appreciated!
Never mind. I reflashed the rom and did NOT install the ns4g modem mod and that corrected the issue. At a guess it was the voodoo color that caused the difference but I don't know enough to say for sure. I just saw that was the only thing that really could have affected the display...
Tried to get the patch to work again and I got the same dark results that I didn't like. I read through and saw that there was a reference to nitest kernel in the patch. I went over and flashed the newest and that fixed it to a reasonable value half way between what I was used to and the way too dark that the patch gave. So here is the order I did:
flashed rom CM10
flashed gapps gapps for CM
flashed patch NS4g patch
flashed nitest Nitest
If someone could direct me to voodoo control that is referenced??? I can't find it on play store and I searched the forums but I just find posts that talk about it, not any that point to it. Would be appreciated!
You should be able to get the latest app in the play store search for voodoo sound as the name has changed
Much appreciated! Didn't even think that the display options would be available when it only identified sound...
Hey guys, I have been experimenting with several of the newer 4.2.2 ROMS. What I have seemed to notice about all of them is the low sound. The only one that I could get to work with Voodoo Sound Control was CarbonROM. I was still not impressed with how low the sound was. I am in love with how those ROMS look I just need the sound to go along with it. My question is, what ROM and Kernel pairs together well that supports Voodoo Sound Control as well?
My other question is about Kernels. I have downloaded at least 3 Kernels and have tried to flash them all with the ROMs i downloaded as well. They have successful flashes, but as soon as I Reboot the phone it gets stuck and never gets past the loading screen. can someone help me with whatever I am doing wrong to get these Kernels to flash over properly and what ROMS and goes with what Kernels. Because I am tired of going back to 4.1.2. So any help would be thankful

You are flashing TW version kernels. No issues with sound levels here.

there really isnt a fix for the low sound 4.2.2 due to the current crop of releases being based off other Note 2 devices, and associated port issues. tons of threads on the issue and potential semi fixes.
really is no way around it at this point, just have to be a little patience, till samsung released the stock 4.2.2 for the devs to get to maximizing
Hi, I am still fairly new around here (and to the custom ROM scene) and I have been lurking around for some time. So far, I haven't had the need to ask any questions as they have all been answered in other threads, but here's one that I am curious about; it's one that I have noticed in a few custom ROMs I have tried so far.
[Q]: What is the mDNIe scenario and what does it do?
It is located under the Advanced portion of the Settings menu. I've ticked a few of them, but it doesn't seem like it does anything.

mDNIe stands for mobile Digital Natural Image engine.
In stock galaxy S2 rom (at least my i9100 international), under Settings ->Display -> Screen mode, it shows a sample image and three preset profiles - Dynamic, Standard, and Movie. These adjust the brightness, sharpness, contrast on different screens/ in apps like camera.
Custom roms can always have custom settings for these display-related parameters of a phone.
I am not android developer, so I cannot tell you how to turn it on, but I think stock rom has mDNIe enabled by default.

I also wondered about this option on CM10.1, but from reading the quote (from another post) above, I conclude that they are just different settings to tune the displaly of the phone. The differences between each scenario are so small that I can't really notice them, so I just leave it on the preset UI mode.

Yeah, I dug little into it myself and read that they were some presets for color management. I was kind of curious if they were working properly on the ROM I am currently running and if it would have any impact on battery life as well, but if it's as minute a change as you say, then it's probably not worth investigating, at least not for the time being.
Thanks for the reply and the info, by the way. I guess it's more for display clarity if anyone were to have problems with the viewing screen. I'd give your post a "Thanks" if I haven't already met my thanking limit of the day already. lol I'll be sure to give you one when I get the chance to.
Can this be related to the Galaxy S4 auto-dimming problem? If I set the background mode to STANDARD instead of AUTO, it will probably not dim?
I've been using Lightweight ICS ROM for a while and just recently decided to try SuperNexus JB ROM. I do like the SuperNexus ROM, however, the volume (for everything) is definitely not at the same level it was before (I can't post the question in the thread directly since I need 10 posts) but I'm not 100% sure it's due to the ROM either, since I've only seen a couple other complaints about volume in that thread.
I'm not sure what's causing the issue, I do know that Lightweight was packaging Beats Audio with it, and I don't believe SuperNexus does, but neither did the stock ROM, which sounded fine. I've tried using Volume+ to boost the volume, but its "booster" makes it even quieter. I've been trying to search for solution but haven't found anything useful yet, aside from complaints about low volume on Nexus devices and a audio fix for Nexus 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889522), which caused my device to enter a bootloop. Some posts I've read suggest this might be a kernel issue, in which case I'm confused why other users of the same ROM aren't experiencing it. Does anyone know of a fix?
Thanks

Greetings, everyone!
I've been having issues with my Captivate Glide lately (related to the battery going bad... again) and with the recent money I spent ordering a new replacement battery and also an extended one, I want to give my phone a new lease on life since there are no real contenders in the QWERTY realm for Android. I have a few questions, which are probably all foolish and simple, but I'm reading about all the things you can do to these phones and it's all going over my head so far, I'm not picking up on ANYTHING from these threads. Hopefully somebody can ELI5 and help me out.
1) Stock is Android 4.0.4 from what I understand. I found the "EVERYTHING SAMSUNG SGH-I927" thread and there are 4.2.2 and 4.3 ROMs. But they come with issues. Not something I really want to mess with? But what am I missing out on from 4.2.2 VS 4.3? And what do I really gain from 4.0.4 to 4.2.2?
2) There was another thread mentioning spyke555's CM10.1 4.2.2 ROM and I looked at the thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217288) but hasn't been updated in several months. The last post in the thread had this suggested for different ROMs but I have no idea how to tell the differences or make a choice between them. What should I be looking for?
PAC-ROM (JB 4.3)
http://goo.gl/uG4LFM
My favorite as of yet. A combination of CM, AOKP, and PA, this rom has it all!
CM 10.2 (JB 4.3)
http://goo.gl/Yklv9E
A good one, my second favorite because of the functionality. Same issues with any other CM.
LiteRom (ICS)
http://goo.gl/CNsmM7
Haven't used this one yet, but if you like ICS and a snappy phone, this seems about right.
LiquidSmooth (JB 4.1.2)
http://goo.gl/Ic5dgL
My third favorite, used this one for months! Fast, functional, and nice looking!
BONUS:
TWRP TOUCH FOR CAPTIVATE GLIDE:
http://goo.gl/1dSjzU
Probably the best recovery I've used for the Cappy Glide. Very nice, and is touch screen!
3) What is the difference between kernel / ROM / etc? I'm getting the impression that the kernel is more of a BIOS for the phone, and ROM's are the OS? Am I on the right track here? I've seen people say kernel affects the battery life and base performance more though, so the kernel also has some OS functionality in the hardware department?
I'm not a power-user by any means, but I just want to wake up my phone a little bit and get rid of the AT&T bloatware that is all over the phone. Going back to a stock Android theme doesn't bother me at all since I am neutral on TouchWiz anyways. I just started looking up different things for my phone and immediately got lost. Thank you for taking the time to read my super-long first thread!
EDIT: This was spurred due to my phone continually re-starting at random points throughout the day, which I thought was the battery, but now I believe it was a corrupted file for Android. I flashed TWRP but I don't have a way to get a custom ROM onto my MicroSD card. Is there a way through Odin or some other program that I can push a custom ROM to my phone while hooked to the computer?

1. 4.3 has bugs not found in 4.2.x but in my opinion doesn't bring new mentionable features around. Interface does change a little and some additional settings like tweaking button backlight is added. I see these latest CM builds as a showcase of what our device is capable of, i.e. if we can run a CM10.2 then we can potentially run all kinds of Android 4.3-based ROMs. All non-stock ROMs (CM, Liquid, PAC) completely gets rid of AT&T bloats (phone runs much faster and with more free RAM) and try to bring in more customization, like CM's cLock and PAC's HybridProperties. In this case the 4th question is answered: a custom ROM would be the shortest cut to a bloat-free experience.
2. I don't think there's a need for an update to CM10.1 (latest is 10.1.2), because it's really stable apart from those bugs that exists across all non-TouchWiz ROMs. I'm using this as well (this post is sent from my Glide with CM10.1.2). If you want drastic changes in the interface, look at PAC, but prepare to sacrifice stability. And if you strive for more speed, Liquid should be okay (lower Android version usually means faster).
3. Await others' more exact answers (I usually don't use custom kernels), though kernel provides driver for all hardware and determines CPU/GPU frequency, governor, etc., so performance and battery life are all tied to it.
5.You have TWRP - superb! If you haven't set up ADB first, do it. Then in TWRP, go to Advanced-ADB Sideload, swipe to continue and connect Glide to PC. from PC, open a command prompt window and type "adb sideload **path to your ROM zip on PC**".
Good patience if you've gone through all my opinions

I tracked you fully all the way up to ADB. What is an ADB? How do I set one up? I tried to search but it said it was temporarily down
EDIT: Okay so I ended up just getting a $10 microSD to USB adapter at the BX. AND IT WORKS! IT BOOTED!
EDIT2 (but not really I did it at the same time): So... it boots. And it works. And it's beautiful and snappy and gets texts and calls (which is important since I'm military) but my power button doesn't work. Do I need to set it up somehow in the settings? It also did this in the booter. Before I put TWRP on, using the stock booter, it wouldn't let me select anything with the power button. Volume rockers worked fine though. But when I boot, and hold power and volume down, it opens up the booter fine! I'm just excited to have a phone at this point and could care less. I used spyke555's ROM for now just to get it working.
EDIT3: Going through using the phone. Power button still does not register. Volume rockers also do not wake phone but work when phone is already awake. I just slide keyboard open and closed each time to wake it up. Tried to send a photo through MMS and the phone re-booted though. I'm not sure if the battery was the issue after all? Will report back after going to the mall and playing with it a bit more.
You might have a bad power key after all
