[Q] Mistakes were made with Titanium Backup - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys, so the problem is as follows....
I rooted my T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 and installed Titanium Backup to delete bloatware apps. Now I've done this process countless times on other android phones in which I BACKUP first then start deleting apps. The problem is that this time I accidently forgot to do the backup and went straight into uninstalling apps. I didn't do many, most likely around 5-6. No problems were detected till i restarted my phone and noticed my lock screen. The clock and personal message had disappeared. Everything else is fine, just no sign of clock and personal message, the highlighted box is there but there is nothing there. My pattern lock and lock screen background picture is there just the clock and personal message is gone. Any suggestions?? It can be anywhere from downloading a apk file to restore the change to restoring the phone completely, thanks in advance.

If your not too far along, which by your post I'm assuming your not, prob best just to start over fresh. You might be able to find the right apk but the time involved in tracking it down then getting it is the trade off.
also maybe you've done this / know about it, just a suggestion...use the freeze option before deleting, if I'm getting rid of something I make a back-up or get the full stock so I have it on hand, then just freeze stuff for a couple days before deleting. Found it's saved me lots of headaches from this type of thing. Then if somethings messed up just unfreeze.
Good Luck

By start fresh you mean factory restoring my phone? And/or flashing stock rom? Thanks for the reply btw, you are correct, im not that far off

I think he means using Odin to flash the stock image. You can get it from sammobile.com.

oh alright thanks, i will try it out and post back the result here.

Thanks guys, I used Factory Reset first to clear all the data followed by flashing the stock image using Odin and that seems to have solved my problem, thanks once again.

[Q] Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 freezes on all ROMs

Hi there,
My Galaxy Note II freezes up on all the ROMs that I've tried. (CM, and other ROMs)
This problem started yesterday when I rooted my phone using the Note 2 toolkit.
Even after flashing back the stock 4.1.2 UK version of the ROM, the problem is still there.
Honestly I've tried everything to sort this out but it randomly freezes (sometimes even after a fresh wipe of a ROM installation)
If I reset the custom binary counter and reset it back to the original ROM again, will my warranty be still there?
Cheers
Could be hardware.
Yeah to last question.

Once try using device without ext sd card if you having it.
If still it freeze without sd card, it may hardware issue. Better to send to service station.
If your fladh binary is 'no' in download mode, then your warranty is intact

I had a different problem, all apps gets removed after a normal reboot..
So I solved it by installing TWRP recovery then went to wipe.. And clicked all the 8 buttons there .. And now it's working fine.. You may try it that.. It might help..
For the warranty, I have no idea about the warranties thing..

I have a similar issue. I rooted my N7100 shortly after getting it xmas 2012 and flashed OMEGA rom (maybe v10). All worked flawlessly until maybe May 2013 then phone started freezing intermittently and frequently. I'm now running Liquidsmooth 2.8, flashed on July 1st after doing a complete wipe (data/cache/Dalvik) and doing a clean install of system apps. The phone still freezes, now even more than before....tried reflashing but no luck. Also tried Moon Rom v8 (kept getting boot loop) and ParanoidAndroid (gapps would flash successfully, but wouldn't show up once after reboot).
Any idea what's causing this?
Did u try to format the internal sdcard completely ?
I too had this problem, I was getting all sorts of problems, reboots, errors, failed flashes, even after doing all the wipes and trying different roms, the only way I could fix it was to flash a stock room through odin with a pit file to reset the partition table, worked a charm after.
Might be totally unrelated but though I'd share

Not yet...has doing this resolved the issue for you in the past? I removed my external sdcard yesterday shortly after posting this and phone definitely improved (still not resolved tho). I use to get ~10 freezes a day, but only got 1 so far after removing ext sdcard. I'm planning on experimenting wit this for another day or so before deciding on additional steps

It might be a probelm with ext. sdcard try to use another sdcard.
So I spoke too soon. The improvement was short lived. Since my last post, the phone has hang 7 tyms! Thsi is still with no ext SDcard. Details:
10:34am...froze while reading an e-mail on e-mail app. rebooted itself at 10:55 (20 mins l8r)
11:50am..froze for abt 10 mins. unfroze while in my pocket as txt msgs were coming in
1:25pm... froze after opening google chrome. unfroze 1:31pm and phone went to sleep (got "Chrome stopped responding" msg)
1:40p...froze after opening plume twitter app til 1:53 when phone went to sleep, opened it and plume was working fine.
1:54pm Froze again while in plume....2:03p, phone went to sleep...seems lyk the buttons are responsive but screen is dark. Unfroze
@ 2:07pm with "plume not responding" msg and clock stuck @ 1:55
Froze 2:10p after opening facebook app....

[solved] Does T999UVDMD5 lag on your phone?

It all started here:
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/44716
I griped on the T-Mobile forums about the struggle I've had in finding a smooth ROM for my T999. And I made an off-handed comment in another thread that got me pointed in the right direction hopefully. I'm looking for other T999 owners that have this problem.
The problem on DMD5 is all related to (apparently) intensive tasks. Playing games, mostly. Temple Run 2 and Fruit Ninja, neither of which are all that intensive, were nigh-on unplayable. Other games like Scramble with Friends would lag and stutter a bit, too. So after a lot of searching, I reverted to a pre-rooted T999UVDLJC with the matching baseband, so that way my phone doesn't try to update itself OTA. And performance is pretty good. But I'd like to think that I'm not alone, and I found I'm not alone in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326763&page=33
At the bottom of this page and the top of the next one, I found at least one kindred spirit that has a rev0 phone and has the same issue with DMD5.
NO other ROM has this issue. I've tried all of the official Samsung ROMs and I have tried official CM10.1 nightlies and the official 10.1 stable release and performance is very good on all of them. But it took a huge serious nosedive on T999UVDMD5.
So I'm curious about two things:
Does DMD5 run well on your phone? Particularly with games - that's where it was most notable, but even TWLauncher is laggy for me.
How old is your phone? According to the box for my phone it was built 6/30/2012.
If you are affected, could you help us all out on the T-Mobile support forum, and post a message in my thread at the top of the page? If we can get T-Mo and/or Samsung to look into it maybe we won't get left behind. I plan on using this phone for another year or more and I'd rather get the official updates in the future, too.
Update July 6, 2013: I found out thanks to help from people in this thread that I can run mismatched modem firmware/ROM and with the JLC modem on MD5 ROM, my phone runs fantastic. Or at least it has for about 2 hours - usually issues have shown themselves by now, and since they haven't cropped up I'm calling this resolved.
When you were on MD5, how did you update to it? OTA? Odin? Recovery flashable ROM?
And how much data have you been carrying over? (When did you last wipe data/factory reset, without restoring backups?)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
---------- Post added at 01:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ----------
Btw, I'm on MD5, completely stock right now. Hw is Rev. 0
I get very little lag, if any, ever. Simple games or even intensive games run very fluidly for me.
For example, I just got Man of Steel when it went on sale and it works almost perfectly. Disney, Gameloft, EA games have all worked just fine.
The only MD5 issues I've seen around here seem to occur when someone is using a mixed build with the MD5 radio. And then its only been reports of heat issues and slight battery issues. Haven't seen much of anything regarding poor performance.

I've tried all of the above. I even let Kies install it once. I've used TriangleAway and Odin to install 4.0.4 and let it do all the OTAs. Iv'e done factory resets and I've told setup not to restore my data to the phone and started from scratch. I used a flashable ZIP with the pre-rooted ROM, and when I did that I also got the DMD5 modem flashable ZIP to go along with it. I've tried not rooted. I've tried custom kernels, and I've tried stock. Odin completely stock and flashable zip totally customized. I've played with custom DMD5-based ROMs with the v6 script and I've tried not. I'm way out of ideas right now.
Sorry, @kennyglass123, I didn't realize I'd checked that box.
Starting to think all of them have "rev 0" for the CPU identifier, so that may not be the way to tell who has what.
Just to be clear, did you ever Factory Reset, then Odin flash MD5 (not mobile odin btw), and factory reset again to ensure internal sd was cleaned out too? If for MD5, you only flashed the Rom and Modem, you would have been on a mixed build. Also, many devs suggest waiting an hour before starting with any testing or reconfiguring. I'm not convinced this is always necessary, but they do usually kno more than me!
Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to argue against your point, just to make sure not only that you've covered all angles, but that anyone who wants to back up your claim has also done the same.
As for the revision number, it may still be relevant as mine would have been among the first built too. We would need to find at least several others with the same, and different, to know for sure if it matters here.
Its always possible too that you got the unlucky pick of the hardware. (Just as possible though that I got a lucky pick)
Anyway, if you really are having that bad of problems with it, you may want to check if its still under warranty. I don't believe its the norm though.

Yeah I'm pretty sure, but I'm willing to do anything at this point. I'll do it again. I've stashed the Odin tar.md5 file on my backup hard drive, so I'll back up my working config and flash it again. Worst case scenario is that I re-root it, re-install recovery, and then restore my backup. Should take an hour max.
Use the root66 version of the firmware. Its pre rooted and is what I am running right now. Root alone won't have any negative effect, but will allow for much better troubleshooting.
Aside from that, keep it as clean from restored data as possible. Even a single corrupted contact entry can cause services to hang and eat up resources. I wouldn't even flash a recovery until you're ready to restore something.
(I use Mobile Odin Pro and it almost completely replaces the need for cwm or twrp. The only thing it can't do yet is make a nandroid backup.)

Whoops - found the Mobile Odin thread on XDA and got the lite version and the T999 flashing kernel. I'll give it a go.
Regarding The AOSP MD5 issues: the same thing is happening to me on stock. Have to use LJC or the battery sucks. What are your reboot habits like?

Yes, root66 is basically just 100% stock firmware, only rooted. Itll download as a .7z file. Just extract it and use the .tar.md5. You have the correct thread.
Mobile Odin is one of my all time favorite apps. Its from Chainfire if you are familiar with him. (SuperSU)
Its not a recovery exactly. What it does is reboots using what's called a flash kernel. This allows it to flash firmware like PC Odin, but also can flash roms that are made for recovery flashing. It doesn't replace the stock recovery like cwm/twrp either, so it also won't trip the flash counter. (I know that doesn't really matter with Triangle Away available (also by Chainfire)).
The only two drawbacks, (minor imo) are that it can't create nandroids, and it doesn't flash the FULL firmware (this is by design though).
I wouldn't bother with it right now, but definitely check it out after testing all this. Theres a free, lite, version here on xda. Ill send more info from my computer later.

OK awesome, I will check it out. I think what I'm going to do right now is just reset the flash counter, flash the Odin image, and then factory reset and set it up as a new phone. Does that sound reasonable? If I reboot into CWM after triangle away, it trips the flash counter again, at least that's what it seems to do, so I can't do anything other than reboot to download after Triangle Away.

I don't reboot unless the battery dies, or I was rebooting a lot when I was on MD5 trying to get stuff to work well. Generally I try not to mess with a good thing.

That sounds fine. Remember, if you factory reset with stock recovery installed, it will wipe internal sdcard.
As long as you have cwm or twrp, the flash counter will always be at 1. I wouldn't worry about that for now though. It won't affect overall operation.

OK I got as far as the factory reset and then it was time to paint. My daughter's bedroom wasn't going to paint itself. I finally came back to the phone and it was patiently waiting for me to log in. I logged in and installed just a couple apps while I ate lunch, and then it sat until we were done painting and cleaning up. Logged into Facebook and Twitter, set up Google Now and updated Samsung apps. Once all that was done, I fired up Temple Run 2 and it was OK at first, but within 3-4 minutes it was choppy and laggy again. The phone never got warm to the touch. It just ran poorly. I exited out and killed all apps with the built-in task manager, and went back to the game. Not really any better. It's just super choppy. I even turned down all the graphics options in the settings for the game and that made zero difference.
Eventually I gave up. Restored my 4.1.1 backup, fired up some stuff, performance was great. It's just the combination of my phone and that software. No idea what it is at this point. I do appreciate all the assistance you guys have lent me.
Right now I'm on T-mo and was waiting out the 60 days before I ported my wife's number in to my account. Now that that's over, I'll eventually port in her number. She's extremely happy with her iPhone 4s and insists she's not interested in an iPhone 5, so what I'll probably do is use the ability to get new hardware as an excuse to get a Galaxy S4. WHen I first came to T-mo I just got a SIM and bought the phone used - found out later on that I should have just bought a phone through T-mo because I can't get a new phone on a payment plan for a year unless it's as part of a new line. She'll be a new line, so I'll get a phone.
This hasn't put me off on Samsung or even on the GS3 - it's just my phone has a weird issue of some sort. And the people here have been super awesome. Thanks tons for all your advice. In the meantime I'll run JLC and leave well enough alone.

OK I see it there. So I should use the LJC modem/firmware with the DMD5 debloat ROM you're going to PM the link for to me? Will they work if they're mismatched? I assumed (not that I'd bothered asking before) that they'd all have to be the same.

Never heard of that before. From what I gather when someone has to inject their imei due to having no backup, they will sometimes have also lost some carrier specific nvitem data. The app used to fix it is the one peoplearmy created. You make a new qcn backup, then his program will 'fix' it by adding this info. (You have to choose your carrier and it does the rest). Then you restore this fixed qcn.
If that factory mode command works it's probably setting it to a state where it'll work w/o that info. But I would assume that you'd have to 're-enter the command every time you flash a Rom or wipe data.
That's just based on my speculation as to what the command you posted does.

I was just referring to the factory mode. It's that black translucent box with the yellow text, right?

Oh, ok, I gotcha now. Didnt realize that was also an issue. I imagine it is a separate problem from 4G not working after an IMEI restore. Just a guess though. If I am remembering right, I think the method I just sent coco worked for the op though.
@coco
Do you have the box with yellow text displayed on your screen? If you do, it wont go away by pressing your ususal buttons. But try that command from Aerowinder in Terminal Emulator.
If its just the 4G that isnt working, follow the directions I just sent you.
Could you pls PM me the fix as well DocHoliday? Thanks in advance
I desperately need this fix as well. I'm living my life on (the) Edge

[Q] Tmo T999 No 4G

Hello,
Obviously from my posts I'm new posting, however, I've been reading the forums for a while now and have been a huge fan at the massive support of devs and other helpful people. My question, and I've tried searching hi and lo on this site and others to get an answer:
I rooted my phone about 2 months ago and kept ROM, kernel, etc. stock until about 1 month ago when I flashed CM 10.1. Everything was awesome, loved the layout and the customization of the ROM. About 2 weeks ago, I lost 4G/H+ coverage, and voice service was sometimes spottier than usual. Wifi was and is still fine, but anytime I left and wifi network, I was immediately given EDGE speeds. I ran speedtest.net and the display is accurate.
I tried searching a couple of sites and I read that flashing a different ROM could fix the issue. I flashed Wicked which again was a great layout, but didn't fix the 4G issue. Lastly, today I followed an unroot thread and unrooted my phone. I didn't reset my counter with triangle away because I didn't think that was an issue in the lack of 4G. And I didn't want to dig myself any deeper on possibly bricking my phone. So now, my phone is stock (minus the counter) with ROM, kernel, and recovery. Any tips or suggestions?
Something to note: When I tried flashing CM10.1 the very first time, I received an error 7 message on CWM recovery. After reading a couple of posts on here, it looked like the workaround was to remove the first line of code on the updater-script file in the zip. Doing so made the ROM flash without any hiccups. Or were there?
Again thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post.

Dakine,
Thanks for the reply. It says 0. Doesn't sound good based on the two options you said it could be.

Its not really bad, but its not great. It means you lost your imei, it just happens randomly when flashing a ROM (no one knows why, it just rarely happens). Its not the ROMs fault, it just happens.
If you haven't made a backup of your imei, then you'll have to restore/inject the imei so that you can use 4g again. I'll have to look for the threads that explain how to do that and I'll post them for you.

I wouldn't worry bout it. Unless you get lucky it can take a lot of searching and piecing info together to find all that's needed. Imei restoration can still be found, but a lot isn't too clear. Data restore after imei restoration is not so easy.
Also, one or two of the important threads are gone. If you ever need help with this issue, you can just pm me.

And thank you too Doc! I'll post my results in case anyone else has this problem. I'm certain this will work. Thanks for the future reach-out invite as well.
Hey Doc, does everything in the video I posted restore 4g or does it just restore the imei? If it doesn't restore 4g, could you please post here or pm what steps are needed to get 4g going again?
I would just like to have a copy of everything just in case something goes wrong with my imei backup, If I end up losing my imei.
Edit: Hey keeeoh I removed the video (thank you Doc for the heads up). If you need the link to it, just let me know and I'll pm it to you. Once again, thank you Doc for letting me know.

Well, Success!!! Needed to do a couple more things but both of you were able to get me back up and running on 4G.
Dakine - Already got the video, so thank you anyways.
Doc - Finished those steps, for some reason I can't PM you so if you can PM me again to let me know what I need to do avoid this in the future, as I'd love to go back to a rooted phone.
Thanks again guys!

Awesome! Glad you got it working again.
Next thing is to create s n on-device backup of your nv data. This should only need to be done once, as you can't delete or overwrite it with common methods. It is also preventative so you shouldn't ever see this issue again.
Two methods
1. Install Andromizer and backup nv data
2. Install and open Terminal Emulator and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
That's it. Your phone will reboot and create the back up. If you do ever need to restore just enter this:
su
reboot nvrestore
Note: you cannot make copies of this as its stored across several partitions that are not easily accessible.

What were the "couple more things"? My IMEI was wiped when I installed CWM and I had no signal showing at all. I have restored my IMEI and it now connects to Edge but it does not connect to 4G as it did. My wife's phone still gets a good 4G connection so I think it is the phone. I have tried wiping it, installing Cyanogen and have now reverted to Samsung factory UVDMD5. Everything about the phone seems to work great except it has no 4G. Tried changing APN type and forcing WCDMA -- no luck
Thanks!

Low 2g and 3g but no 4g
I also can never get 4G in the metro. Even right next to somebody with the exact same phone and same T-mobile service who gets it fine.. I had flashed Synergy ROM and now S3Rx (stock kernel) but no improvement. My IMEI is valid, the Mobile Network type is shown as: GPRS:1. It shows the APN as T-Mobile USA (epc.tmobile.com). Baseband version is: T999UVDMD5.
I don't know anything else to check. Sure would like some ideas.
Test with someone else's SIM card. Or call T-Mobile as it sounds like it may be an account issue. Odin back to stock. If it still continues, it could also be hardware.

Hello Doc, I tried to pm you, but never received a reply, maybe my message is blocked.
I hope you can help me find cure for my phone!
After regular update of CM 10.2. using CWM my phone stopped connecting to 3g and 4g, I checked with T-Mobile and no problems on their end. I thought it was a failed upgrade reinstalled CM 10.2, didn't help. Then I totally reformatted Internal Storage and Installed LiquidSmooth 2.3.7, same thing, only EDGE data. Then I thought maybe I have to unroot and go back to Stock, and this time unrooted, upgraded baseband to the latest version, then installed Stock JB 4.3 but it didn't fix my problem. Then I came across this info about missing IMEIs, and there it was IMEI was showing Unknown at one point and now it is showing 0. I tried to follow some guides about nv_data.bin but my EFS folder doesn't seem to contain that file, it actually doesn't have more than that when compared to other user's screenshots.
At this point I rooted my phone again using TWRP with SU and De-knox and installed CM 10.2.0. Still EDGE only and IMEI showing 0.
Please, help! I can email screenshot of About Phone Status Page and EFS folder if you need.
Thanks!

Doc,
I just purchased a T999 on eBay with this same problem. When I got the phone, it had CM installed on it and had no IMEI (IMEI=0). I put it back to stock 4.1.2, still no IMEI. I did IMEI repair using Z3X box which worked, now IMEI is normal. Problem is that it always stays on EDGE network. I'm sure this is something to to with the phone and not something else. I have a couple of other T999's available to use to test SIM card, location, etc. and all other T999's I've tried work just fine. Only this one that I had to restore IMEI.
Can you please give me some advice?

my att s3 lags a LOT

hi, i have a samsung galaxy s3 (ATT).
its rooted, ive been on a few roms this last month, and they all lag at times. sometimes it works flawlessly like it should, but there are many times when my phone just lags. its so bad that i literally have to pull out the battery and put it back in to reboot since rebooting the regular way lags and takes forever as well. ive wiped the system and installed new roms, cleared cache, messed with performace settings (i have them set to 1500 mhz or lower). i have no idea whats causing the lag. must i wipe the entire internal sd first and then install another rom? i need an opinion, any help? thanks
Have you made sure that none of your apps are slowing the device down....I would install something like trepn profiler and see what your soc is doing

Flash stock, factory reset and test clean. If you are keeping or restoring old apps and data, im willing to bet
thats causing your issues.

Ok, when flashing stock, u mean thru Odin? Or just use the root injected stock ROM?? I guess my question is, will I have to use the method to get rid of root and then re root? Just wanna make sure I'm doing this correctly. Thanks for replying btw
